QuirkyAngel

White Masquerade's Blue Oni
Prologue: The Funeral
Dark clouds, heavy and omnipresent, covered the skies above the Village Hidden in the Leaf. Rain hadn’t poured yet. However, a seasoned sailor could smell it. Taste it in the air. Feel it in the winds. The wise would stay indoors, sheltered from the storm to come. In spite of that, many ninjas and civilians stood outside, amidst the soon-to-be dreary weather, surrounded by stones marking the dearly departed. Gathered around a raised, elaborately-decorated, casket, no one laugh. No one cried. Only a single voice broke through the stillness:

“We come together today to mourn the death of the Lord Seventh, Sasuke Uchiha—a man whose power protected the village. Whose skill and talents embodied the village’s strength. During a time of need, he brought hope to the village when hope had died. A survivor of the famed Uchiha Clan, he accomplished many great deeds and strengthened our home like no other Hokage before him. His death is a tragedy to us all. Born in the Village Hidden in the Leaf, he returned to the Village Hidden in the Leaf, and now his soul rests in the Village Hidden in the Leaf.”

The first flower was thrown. Then many more followed.

Sayori watched it all listlessly. Dressed in black, she wondered which of the funeral attendees truly grieved and which were simply faking it for the sake of propriety. Sasuke Uchiha was a ninja that had sparked much controversy, after all. If it weren’t for the Lord Sixth’s support, his inauguration probably wouldn’t have been possible. Some still couldn’t forgive him for his betrayal. Others didn’t like his policies. Or his tendency to do things on his own. However, few could deny the power he wielded with the Rinnegan and his sheer talent in getting things done. Konohaga prospered under his leadership. His was a strength many other villages feared—one that rivaled the hero of the 4th Great Ninja War. Now that he was no longer around, things were certain to change for the Village Hidden in the Leaf. Sayori could feel it.

Soon her turn came.

To be completely honest, Sayori never really thought a day like this would come. The Lord Seventh had always seemed invincible to her. Unfaze-able. You’d think possessing two of the three greatest dojutsus of the Ninja World would allow such. That he would’ve somehow managed to copy an immortality jutsu along the way and saved her the trouble of having to think of what to say during a time like this. Sasuke Uchiha wasn’t her father. Their relationship wasn’t anywhere near as close. However, he did save her and teach her what it meant to be a ninja. Therefore she owed him a couple of good words at least.

Weeping and sentimental partings didn’t suit her so Sayori decided to reassure her former teacher instead. Even with the Lord Seventh gone, the Village Hidden in the Leaves would continue without him. A new Hokage would be chosen by the council. A new batch of genin would soon graduate the Academy. She would teach them everything he’d taught her. In that way, his legacy would continue. There was no need for tearful goodbyes.

It was a new beginning.

Dropping her chrysanthemum with the rest, the brown haired jonin tipped her bamboo hat, saying her final farewell to the man who taught her everything she knew.

(If you've been accepted, feel free to introduce your characters here. As a member of the Village Hidden in the Leaves, this is your chance to say your last goodbyes to the Seventh Hokage. Whether you are in close relationship with him or not is up to you. If you're a genin, you haven't yet graduated the Academy because that is next chapter)
