It's a warm and sunny day today for the island of Himitsu, the only breaks from heat being the occasional cloud and a gentle breeze that wafts from the shoreline. The streets that line the town are filled with bustling people both villagers and guests alike. After all, it is just a day before the festival begins and some people are scurrying to finish the last of the preparations in suspense while others fulfill their daily duties along side them. Many of the guests are visiting with relatives, or settling in for the next few days at the inn. The village itself is livelier than ever, as more people come to see the festival each year, which helps with the local economy more than some would like to admit. Among all of the noise lies a small convenience store near the middle of town, where a young boy waits expectantly.

Although so much excitement fills the air on this lovely afternoon, Haru is uncharacteristically quiet. His beady eyes are settled on the door of the small convenience store with sheer focus as his feet dangle from the stool chair he had climbed on to earlier. The chair itself is placed outside of the counter next to the cash register, where his mom shuffles about aimlessly waiting on a customer. Earlier that day Haruto had come into the store with a bounce in his step, exclaiming to his mother that his club has an official meeting today. The store makes for a good half-way point for all of them, and it allows them to grab snacks before leaving. However, he had forgotten about what time they were supposed to meet up at the store before they head to their club house. This led him to come extra early and wait for them at the convenience store, but it was already three in the afternoon. "Are you sure they are coming?", his mother asked with a gentle tone and Haru nodded vigorously. "Yes, they are coming! I know it!" His voice carried a confident tone to it that made his mother gently laugh and let him be. Haru has full faith that his friends would be coming through that door at any moment.

Jun-Seok Goto

Which way was the store? Jun had already gotten lost once today, and he was set on keeping that count steady. Directions were evidently not his strong point. Jun-Seok noted that quietly under his breath as something to work on later, but he knew he wouldn't do anything about his status as one of the thousands of directionally-challenged people in this world. However, such thoughts were rudely interrupted by a street filled with cars racing from one end of nowhere to the other. A short, focused minute of waiting, and he was skipping across a now empty intersection, with only his immediate future on his mind. Jun was going to his first meeting as a member of the Monster Hunter's Club. Jun-Seok wandered down the sidewalk. He had forgotten what the name of the store he was supposed to be going to and the location he embedded in his head was more of a general direction than something absolute. Of course such a daunting task would normally have shaken the young adventurer, but not today. Today Jun knew he needed to get to the store mostly on time. Arriving on time or even early were realities he had abandoned long ago in favor of the sunnier world he now found himself in. The young boy walked along, and paused outside a familiar looking convenience store. He briefly assessed the windows before opening the door. He took a brief breathe in and called out, "Excuse me, Is Haru there?"

"Hurry, hurry!" Juniper shifted back and forth, watching her father finish sewing the hole in her shoe closed. She was late! She hopped over the pile of shoes at his feet, all waiting to be mended or replaced in some way, and stood on her tip-toes to peer at the clock hanging on the wall. Well, no, she wasn't late. But it sure felt like it.

She spun around and her father held the shoe out for her. "Bring me back a souvenir," he said as Juniper shoved it on and ran for the door. "I will, I will!" She skirted a corner and ran down the street, weaving around guests coming out of shops and others walking on the sidewalk. She could barely wait to cross the street, bouncing up and down until the light turned red. How couldn't she be excited? It was her first day of setting out on an adventure with her friends.

She wondered what they would do. Climb a mountain? Find bobby traps? Search the ruins for treasure? Juniper shoved open the door of the convenience store. "Haru? I'm here!" She looked around, seeing her surrounding for the first time. She saw someone she didn't notice before, just ahead of her. "Jun!" She smiled, skipping closer. "Are you excited? We're going to be doing all kinds of fun things!"

Natsuo Nomura
With the knowledge that today was a club meeting Natsuo had taken extra measures to draw out a map to his destination, Haruto's convenience store. For the first fifteen minutes the drawing was working effectively for the boy until he became side-tracked on assisting an elder with their groceries. It was a difficult but short decision for the boy to make since he knew that by helping the old man he was going to stray off the track on his map. But intuitively he knew that he had to help the man.

So now that he had managed to help the man carry his groceries to his cart, Natsuo stood at an intersection slightly lost and flustered. He pulled out a crumpled sheet of paper with the crayola lines of a makeshift map on it. "Well now what to do?" His eyes tried to correlate any familiar landmarks to any of the figures he had drawn on his map. But nothing was matching. Even though he has already lived in Himitsu for a year, some areas were still not familiar to the boy.

After a few minutes of nervously pacing in a small circle and running a hand through his hair, he fortunately spotted a familiar figure passing by at the end of the street, Juniper. Even though it was a quick glance, Natsuo was almost sure it was his friend, and if it was not then he was running towards a mistake. But as he tailed the figure, he was sure of the identity with her black hair and bright attire. Not wanting to lose a familiar sight, Natsuo made sure to keep an eye on her as he followed her.

At some point he had to jog a bit due to the busyness of the streets in preparation for the upcoming festival. But he eventually began recognizing his surroundings and soon the path to Haruto's store. The worry and fear that clung onto him previously was soon replaced with excitement once he spotted Haruto's store. A smile appeared on his face as he walked in after Juniper's entrance. "Hey guys how are you all?"

Haru's previously focused face lit up the moment Jun walked through the door. He hopped down from the stool he was sitting on to go and greet him when Juniper arrived, and Natsuo just after her. "Yooo-, I knew y'all would come!", Haru chimes in with a happy grin and places his hands on his hips triumphantly. It is mostly them overcoming his own minute doubt, but he still considers it a victory, "I'm great now!" After greeting his friends his mother called to them from behind the counter, "Do you kids want any snacks before you leave?"

The young boy didn't realize he was sweating until he felt the cool breeze provided from the store's source of air conditioning. He quickly used the bottom of his shirt to wipe away any obvious sweat before returning his attention to his friends. The last thing he wanted to come across as to his friends was a mess. His light brown eyes looked over to Haruto as he jumped down from the stool he sat in. Natsuo couldn't help but mimic his friend's big smile. Everything was brighter and happier when he was with his friends.

He then turned his attention over to Haruto's mom, who was asking them about snacks. Upon hearing the word, Natsuo's stomach alerted him of hunger and rather loudly. A small blush crept onto the boy's face in embarrassment, "Perhaps a snack or two. Do you have any melonpan? Oh and also any manju?" As a growing boy, Natsuo would have loved to ask for more but he didn't want to look greedy.

"We do," Haru's mom gently smiled as she moved from the counter to go and fetch what Natsuo asked for. "Anyone else want something?," her voice traveled from behind one of the aisles in question to the other kids. Haru was having a tough time deciding if he wanted anything since he had already eaten before coming here. He simply grabbed an umaibo from the front of the counter and settled with it, placing it on top of the counter. "Can we have drinks, too, ma'?" Haru asked, raising his voice so she could hear him from across the store. "Yeah, it's not a problem," she responded in a calm tone. Haru didn't think about being greedy or how little it would cost, money was never his strong suit.

"No, thank you!" Juniper chirped in answer to Haru's mom. She wanted to start adventuring already. Couldn't the snacks and drinks wait until they came back with their spoils from navigating caves, or exploring the river, or climbing a mountain? She sniffed, enticed by the sweet smell of Natsuo's melonpan. Maybe she was a little hungry. But they had monster's to hunt and adventures to undertake!

She held her hands behind her back, then tangled her fingers together, then crossed her arms. Juniper could hear her dad's quiet voice in her head, telling her to be just a bit more patient. So she waited as her friends got their snacks, holding her breath to keep herself from talking. Her cheeks were red when Haru asked for drinks.

She sucked in hard. "We can snack later! Common, common, we gotta go!"

Jun-Seok Goto

Jun watched as a few more kids joined him. He wondered why they all had decided to come here. Haru was the only one of them he knew enough to call a friend, and even their relationship mostly consisted of fleeting interactions prior to this meeting.

The boy was now occupied by the various items on the shelves around him. Assortments Of brightly colored snacks and other foods drew him in closer. Animals, fruits, and other less recognizable mascots cheered him on. The plastic palace stood well above his head, and almost as long as he was willing to trace the racks. He stood on his toes and saw a package adorned by a panda with large sparkling eyes.

It called to Jun. He carefully brought it down in front of his face and deliberately skimmed the words on the package. Nutritious, Now only..., May include fish products. Normally deterred by reading of any kind, Jun-Seok found himself searching for a price; The only detail that matter to him. He did not need to worry about the trivialities like allergy warnings or expiration dates— those were only estimates after all.

After a long inspection, by his standards, Jun remembered he was in a store and that the prices are often listed on the racks. ¥100. He fished in his pockets. It took him a few seconds as there were too many for the boy to keep track of. He fished out a pair of ¥100 coins and marched triumphantly towards the end of the aisle. Instead of presenting his conquest to his new friends, Jun now faced a long wall of refrigerated beverages. He did have a knack for getting lost, but this was something new.

After what amounted to a few seconds of agonizing thinking, Jun wheeled himself around. This time he was not met with a wall, but the other children. Haru has just asked for a few drinks while on beckoned they speed things along. The prospect of getting left behind was horrifying to Haru. He slipped the coins onto the counter with the snack and shuffled nervously.

(OOC: Sorry for not interacting with y’all much. I’ve been pretty busy, and I will continue to be so for a while, but I’ll be able to post more after Nov. 1st, ideally.)

"Alright," Haru's mom quickly shuffled back to the register and placed a few small bottled waters onto the counter where they can reach them, "at least take these." She looked at what snacks the kids had picked out and rung them up on the register, also going along with Jun's wish to pay for his, "Thank you." Haru was lightly jumping in his shoes as he watched his mom, taking a bottled water from the counter and waving to her when she finished. "You kids be safe now," she suggested when Haru grabbed a patched up book bag from beside the counter and started to walk. Haru nodded giddily in response and smiled at his friends. "Lets go, lets go!" He was the first one out of the door when they left. "If we keep going that way," He pointed a small finger northeast," We should make it to the club house sooner."

As Haru's mom retrieved the requested items for the group of children, Natsuo's eyes spotted Jun and observed the boy as he wandered the store. Natsuo didn't really know what more to think of the boy than that he was unusual. He didn't really know him too well so no other impressions could be made for Natsuo of him. His eyes snapped over to Juniper as she tried to rush the group. Natsuo could understand her impatience. Today was a day planned with exciting things. What exactly were they? Natsuo couldn't exactly remember. But anything with his friends was bound to be fun and exhilarating.

When Haru's mom had returned with drinks and snacks, Natsuo happily reached up to receive his melonpan and drink, "Thank you Tanaka-san. And we will." As his parents taught him, Natsuo gave a small bow to the woman before he straightened himself back up to follow after Haru and the others. He stashed away his drink on the side pocket of his backpack and opened up the small package of melonpan. Taking a small bite of the pastry, the boy released a soft moan from the sweet taste.

Not wanting to get left behind Natsuo walked outside to Haru and the others. His eyes followed in the general direction Haru had pointed out. It didn't seem to be a definite direction, but Natsuo didn't know any better so he took the boy's word, "Alright, lead the way Haru!" A small seed of doubt was lingering in Natsuo's stomach though due to the ambiguity of the direction they were to take to reach the clubhouse. But Natsuo trusted Haru.

Juniper grabbed the offered water bottle and stood by the entrance, shifting from one foot to the other until her friends finally, finally decided that it was time to start adventuring. Well, time to go to the clubhouse to plan the adventure, but it was close enough. She ran out after her friends once they left the store, remembered her manners, and doubled back to say a quick thank you to Haru's mom for the water before re-joining them.

"This is going to be so fun!" Juniper said as they walked, hugging the water bottle to her chest. She looked over at Jun's panda-shaped treat, then at Natsuo as he ate his own treat. She stubbornly ignored her stomach, but inched closer to him. "It smells really, really good! How is it?"
