"To be a hero is to do something noble that benefits something beyond yourself. The ranges are wide and ever expansive, but those who hold the title "Super" tend to fall further into the great than the rest. These beings are capable of things far beyond what may have already been imagined. These beings are something far above the rest, one's who truly deserve the name... Superheroes." -Erik Weinson, Reporter in Section 10 (2 years prior)
While the name used to be an inspiration, the "Superhero" status has become a topic of controversy. After the infamous 'Wave' incident, the reliability of heroes has fallen into microscopic inspection. Each mistake is documented carefully by the media and acted on by the public. Masks are even more important than ever to keep Heroes safe, though not from Super Villains as it once was.
"A liability! These things are destroying our city when we asked them to protect it!" -Larry Wright on the recent villain-hero battle that took down Ford towers.
"We are doing all we can to minimize damages and keep civilians safe. Damages will be reimbursed to the full extent. Remember, when there is a threat, please listen to officer's and hero's directions to keep yourselves and others safe." -Blaze, Pro-Hero, on the recent events shaking the city.
"Come shop at Rob's Discount Bakery! Just because it's stale doesn't mean it's worthless!" -Rob's Discount Bakery on Fifth Street.
In light of recent events, many heroes have been retired from work by the government to try and quell the people. The city is facing many more threats due to this lack of hero staffing and the forces (Police, Firefighters, and Medics) have been unable to keep up with the strain. The remaining heroes are stretched thin trying to cover all of their duties with fewer employees. Many MetaHumans have taken on the role of 'Vigilante' to ensure the city's safety, despite the risk involved in this.
"Unpaid heroism? Do they think they're above the law?! They don't even have badges! Let the actual heroes do their job dimwits!" -Larry Wright on Vigilantes.
"Come visit Rob's Discount Everything! Formerly just a bakery, now a mini mart! Ignore the expiration date, that's not always true! Our price will beat any! Why go new when you can get two used? Come see our selection today!" -Rob's Discount Everything on Fifth Street.
