the raven has come to collect from house morel.
in the year of 2023, the seven siblings of the morel family and their spouses attend the funeral for their grandmother, lenore, coming exactly two decades to the day after the death of their late mother, morella grimes. passing away during childbirth left an indisputable stain on each of the children in respective ways, leading to the complete spiral and downfall of house morel.
their biological father, talbot morel, is trying his hardest to keep the fractured family together — though funerals do not inspire the best of people, leading to a discussion about wills, inheritance, and how thick is blood truly in contrast to wealth over a family dinner. but talbot has his own secrets, and one specifically that will pick apart the family once and for all.
heavily inspired by the fall of the house of usher, because mike flanagan has done it again.
there will be a lot of the same elements of the show, naturally. your role in the rp: you are either a morel child, spouse, or closely related to the family (bloodline or otherwise, such as family attorney, housekeeper, distant cousin, etc). genres are horror & drama, with a touch of mystery!
important information when deciding to play as a morel child!: each character will be based off of the seven deadly sins: lust, greed, pride, wrath, sloth, gluttony, and envy. pair these up as you see fit with being the first born, middle-children, and finally, the final child that inevitably caused their mothers untimely passing. each morel child is expected to be suffering from something. an affliction, mental illness, or addiction. these characters are incredibly flawed and handling their own personal struggles, please do so accordingly!

greed
arguably the most ambitious of the morel children. power, money, glory, they want all of it and then some. their hunger for more will never be satiated, or maybe it has very temporarily and now their greed is as if chasing a high. maybe they are the fathers' favourite, knowing their future inheritance is secure based on the relationship with talbot morel alone, or maybe this person has established themselves as a morel in their own right. either way, they will stop at nothing to get what they desire most.

pride
proud, talented, and slightly narcissistic, perhaps they are proud to be a morel child, or proud to have made a name for themselves outside of the family. going through life with the mother of all vices, they sport a hubris that could rival that of the 'greats', and despite all that ego, they've earned it with a skill; a talent that none other in the family possess to their extent.

sloth
with an inheritance bound for their future, what do they care about working? is it born from pure laziness, knowing their life is secured up in assets that is bound to be theirs, or is their reluctance to participate in society due to the untimely passing of their mother, and now grandmother, furious that the family can move on so easily. perhaps, they do want to work hard and earn the same respect as their siblings, but just simply fail to live up to the expectations of a morel.

gluttony
definition of an addictive personality; there is a poison they can't be without. their gluttonous ways interfere with the family business in ways they can't even conceptualise, though it is a point of contention within the family behind closed doors, and maybe they don't care, revel even in the attention that their mere existence compels from the family. regardless, they aren't giving up their addiction without a fight.

lust
the greatest treasure of life wasn't money, and they aren't one to shy away from their promiscuous behaviour, often finding themselves the source of tabloid gossip — which person had they been spotted out at the clubs with? whose home were they flaunting their 'walk of shame'? marriage was out of the question for them at this time, known in the family to be the last of the children to commit to anything more than a single week of fun. perhaps they face pressure from their father to get smart, to have a child as soon as they can, as to pass along the legacy and name of the morels.

envy
constantly in the shadow of their siblings successes, their ambition is palpable, but destructive. envious of their siblings, whether it be their individual successes or feeling as if certain siblings have a level of favouritism from their father, they are drowning in jealousy. perhaps they are skilled or successful in their own right, but do not see how it compares to that of a sibling, maybe a compliment from their father to another morel child eats them in a way that causes them to forget what they've made of themselves.

wrath
they resent everything and anything. being a morel child has drowned them in expectations, and maybe that has caused a great deal of anger and resentment for having a certain life decided for them — or, maybe, there's a stroke of their own ambition within, and their resentment is at themselves for not performing to the ability as their siblings. perhaps, they have rebelled strongly against the family, but their father has kept a hold on them anyway — refusing to allow a stray morel out of their reach. regardless of their reasons, their wrath is undeniable.

the spouses
as a spouse of the morel children, they've either married into the dysfunctional family (for personal gain or genuine love), or they're in a long-term committed relationship, or this is their first time being brought around the family, and subject to the mercy of their questions about the relationship. regardless of their reasons for willingly committing into the family, their personal reputation will be affected by the family's actions and vice versa.

personal relations or other: this can include a housekeeper, the family attorney, the cook, gardener, a number of people that have helped keep the family afloat with the very basic (for the rich) of human necessities. or perhaps they are a distant relative, a cousin, a former spouse, an uncle or aunt, someone that has something to gain by becoming close enough to the family to ensure a spot in that will.

talbot morel
talbot morel is the promiscuous biological father of the morel children. his surname was not always morel, having legally changed it to honour his late wife, morella. while not every child is a half-sibling, there is only one child that is the direct child of morella, and he favours them above all else. despite the slight resentment he feels for having taken the only woman he has truly loved away from him during childbirth.

the raven
she is mysterious and unassuming, and throughout the story, will make herself known to every single person involved in the family and beyond, in her own way. typically an omen for those that have abused their position as a morel (biological or not), the raven has come to torment and test the boundaries of them all. whilst for some, she's a signal of good fortune, giving those she deems worthy, redeemable, a second chance to do something right in this world, or perish with the rest.

rule one,
morella died approximately twenty-five years before the events of the roleplay, meaning the youngest character will be twenty-five years old. every other child must be between twenty-seven and forty years old.
rule two,
keep characters diverse, please! the father is a slut for reason, the man got around, so there's no need for an entirely rich white family. and when you're in a position of power such as the morels, public opinion means nothing to them, so gender-fluidity, trans, non-binary and sexual orientations is what you make of it.
rule three,
a semi-advanced to literate roleplay, i expect at least three paragraphs per character a week. inactivity is expected (such is life), but we are adults, so please use your words and let the group know when you're going to be away for an extended period of time or won't be able to post for that week!

PLEASE POST THE ROLE(S) YOU ARE INTERESTED IN APPLYING FOR BELOW! this is not first come, first serve. when the application thread is posted, you are not beholden to wait for someone to finish their character first if they have a role you are interested in, so please double-up with your characters just in case we feel someone else's lust, wrath, etc character would be more fitting!
