Realistic or Modern Life After Death: Reaper's Code of Conduct

LiviathRose

Eliminating the Heart
The chirping from common sparrows echo throughout your bedroom celebrating the dawn of a new day, occasional sound of traffic to follow. You soon wake to a violent humming in your head as the lights from outside pierce through causing a migraine to last.
"Where am I? What happened?" You think to yourself as you slowly sit yourself up in bed like you had a hangover to brag about.
As you pull the sheets off your body, you feel something brush against your hand. Looking down, you see a piece of paper with writing on it that looked old and withered. You try to focus as you begin to read what was on the paper while fighting through the migraine.

"Congratulations on your recent passing, while we are sorry for your loss we have decided to give you something like 'a second chance'. Everything will be confusing at first but we are sure you will get a hang of things in time. In this pamphlet we will list a few things to help you wrap you head around some things, but you will be meeting your boss very shortly to get you started."

Dead but Living:
"You are dead ______, but yet you are still alive. You are the undead, but not a zombie. People confuse the "undead" with the "living dead" all the time, it really is not the same thing. You may not remember how you died at this time, or perhaps you do. Either way, try not work yourself up as there is nothing you can do at this point. As the undead, people will not take notice to you and you are no longer who you think you are. We have decided to let you create your new identity, but try to make it believable and you cannot use the name of someone famous. People have tried, all have failed. If you look in the mirror, you'll notice you no longer look like you did in your living years but might be able to make out some resemblance. Don't panic, and further more don't try looking for the people you once knew. It will only end badly and have severe consequences."

Welcome to Your New Job:
"Before you died, a Reaper came in contact with you to claim your soul before death. You may vaguely remember talking to someone that you did not notice or someone bumping into you, that was a Reaper claiming your soul to take you to what the living call the "afterlife". But you are here for the fact we decided you were a better fit to work as a Reaper, or someone retired and we needed a quick replacement. This job isn't an option and ignoring your duties will result in penalties. You may have many of questions, but your boss will answer the remaining questions you have. Don't worry, by the time you finish reading this, she will be waiting for you to open up the door. However, there are rules just like any other job. Not following them can lead you down a very unforgiving path. "

Reaper Rules for Living Among the Living:
1. Do not bring attention to yourself or other Reapers.
2. Do not involve yourself in the lives of the living other than for survival purposes. (Ex; Working)
3. Do not miss your shift to claim souls.
4. Do not prevent the Depki from doing their jobs or bring attention to them. They cannot be seen by the living.
5. Do not reach out to your loved ones, or do "miracle acts".
6. Do not use dead souls to claim their wealth.
7. Live as you please, where you please but laws are still laws to you among the living.
8. Do not go against your assigned boss.
9. When fighting against the Blogots, do not use your powers in the view of the living as they cannot see them.
10. Do not follow the souls to their destination.

"This is all we have to tell you now. Go now and let your boss in so you two can discuss more about the job."

As you put the pamphlet down, you wait a moment to hear for the knocking at your door. But instead there was only silence. Getting up from your bed, you put the pamphlet down and it disintegrates before your eyes as if it was never actually there leaving no remains. The overwhelming sensation comes over you, as you tremble towards the bedroom door. As you open the door, a woman dressed in a black trench coat meets your gaze.
"Ah, good morning _____." She says in an honeyed way as if she was pretty on a sweet face just for a moment. "You are going to be late for your first job if you don't get ready. I don't do 'late' around here." Her aged, brown eyes turn away as she takes a few steps back as if waiting for you to hurry. You sense your new boss might be a tad stern.
