I need a King's Rock
final-fantasy-project-w-06.png

Based on a classic setting of high fantasy adventuring through the world, either on a quest or simply wanting to explore. Bright skies above beautiful, merry kingdoms scatter the lands as everyone dances during festivities in the town plaza. It's colorful, to say the least, and a wonderland at most. Still, it's not always cheery due to monstrous villains appearing every now and then to kidnap the villagers and plunder everyone's food supplies. Believe it or not, heinous acts are way more common than you think in this world. That's why there are adventurers, and better than that, heroes, who will save the day.

Then there is the simple merry folk that does more than you might think. That simple blacksmith fuming up the shop with smoke all day? He has made the first weapon of several young adventurers that became well known. A merchant? Kept you alive through valuable wares. Trinkets, odds and ends, that sort of thing. Everyone in this small world of the icelands to the north and a dessert to the south had a lot of stories to tell about. How about you? What's your story, friend?

A salty sea scent and an abundance of fresh produce in the market has attracted various people here in Vegera, a seaside port village that is home to the trade of fish and spices. There are many faces here, from the travelers to merchants to adventurers, there's not a thing that's not here as of current. The daylight blazes through the early morning, but the breeze and temperature gives a cool sensation welcome by everyone. Blacksmiths have already begun their routine of striking their weapons on an anvil, and a few mages are now roaming around here and there for their businesses. If you listen closely, a buzzing of arcane energies can be heard across the town, allowing light sources inside homes and the streets through streetlamps, but the latter is still far too early. In the far northern part of the village lies its exit, multiple horse-drawn carriages awaiting any new passengers who wish to travel these distant lands. The fare is relatively cheap, and anywhere is better than here, not saying that Vegera isn't a great town, but the world is limitless, so there should be more to be known, right?

Sonia wandered lazily through the street, taking in the sights of the village. It was a nice place... And that was really all she thought about it, as she watched the people go about their lives. She yawned as she walked aimlessly forward, not stopping to rest or anything, instead looking for anything to catch her interest.

Olivia, in the meantime, was already wide awake in the village's library, studying up on the magical techniques of nearby lands. She would have to visit these places personally to learn more than just rudimentary knowledge of course, but it was good to have a mental list of any interesting places for her to go.

Meanwhile, Catherine walked along the market district, looking for something in particular. She felt tense, not used to being in city crowds like this. Normally it was her apprentice that handled cityside work. But she knew no one would recognize her here, not unless they'd come from Lonnetor like she had. She'd stowed away on a ferry to get here, so there was no record of her leaving either, meaning she was free to do what she needed without fear of the authorities catching wind of her.

Still, this was a lot of people. But, honestly, trying to hide would only be suspicious of her.

Also, she needed a map.

Not of any particular town or province, but of the neighboring kingdoms. She had come here as her first stop towards Xeria, after all. But Lonnetor didn't have any maps of overseas kingdoms, so she had to rely on finding one here before she could get anywhere.

It was cozy in the long halls inside the Alignment, a library in Vegera known to house various knowledge since it's home to books that can be seen worldwide, so many people gather here. At least, that's what Miyarkus has heard. Of course, the long-robed folk seemed to have frequented the place every day, although not to the point for it to be crowded. There are spare desks and cushioned seats everywhere for all of the library's visitors to rest at their leisure, done definitely with a good book in their hands. Speaking of, books range from bestiaries to history books, quite the informative collection. It's a two-story building with so many shelves here and there, and both floors also have cushioned paradises in the center, so there's definitely a book somewhere here for somebody.

Miyarkus scours the library quietly, wondering which book was interesting. They all had wonderful looking covers, but the topics they discuss aren't something he was quite keen into reading about. He looks into the more simpler ones on the lower shelves, these ones Miyarkus believes to be precise explanations to... ooh, what's this? A book about flame magic. Disclaimer, it's not going to teach the reader magic, but still, nonetheless, it caught Miyarkus' attention. He slowly reaches for the nearest cushioned seat on the second floor and immediately reads in peace as his claws slowly flip through each page, noting the simple illustrations of mages casting dangerous flame-related magic, and also spotting those small pieces of trivia the book seems to give out here and there.

Olivia was absorbed in the tome she was reading. The contents were baffling to her. A country where the primary use of magic was entirely rune-based? How could such a system be usable? Every single spell would need preparation time to set up, to the point where you'd have to keep on hand the rune circle configurations of every single spell you knew...

Her attention was caught by someone walking by in front of the desk she was sat at. She glanced up to see who it was, and nearly gasped in shock at the person she saw. It wasn't any of the five sentient races she was familiar with back home... No, this was a Dragon! A walking, bipedal Dragon, but still a Dragon nonetheless... She was speechless for several moments as she watched him walk over to one of the bookcases, grab a book - A beginner's guide to Fire magic, it looked like? - and sit down on one of the nearby benches to start reading.

She shook her head to try and correct herself out of her stupor before going back to her studying, but she couldn't help it. Her eyes drifted back over to him. She had to... At least speak to him. She likely wouldn't get a chance like this again. With that in mind, she took a deep breath, and closed the book she was reading, grabbing her staff before standing up and placing the book back on the shelf she found it on. Once that was done, she walked over to him, greeting him with a respectful bow "Excuse me, sir Dragon... May I have the honor of knowing your name?"

Miyarkus wasn't very far into the book, much more into the author's introduction into the wonderful world of burning yourself while practicing fire magic, and the alarmingly sinister applications the author has listed out in the book. Before he could delve further, however, a beautiful red-haired woman approached, inquiring his name. Achievement Unlocked: Social Interaction

Miyarkus was quite caught off guard by the fact someone other than his guardian would actually approach him, that he actually just blankly stared at the woman eye-to-eye, stunned from her approach, while in his head he racked his brain for a protocol for when a person talks to him. He never had a conversation with anyone other than his guardian before, so he's not exactly sure how to act. He only got this far by avoiding everyone and by traveling on foot, despite his guardian saying he should talk to people whenever he could and to pay for their services. Thus, after the woman could wonder if this dragon person could actually speak, he spoke out loud with whatever he felt like would be appropriate.

"Miyarkus." he said. Simply that. He never had to introduce himself to other people before and saying his own name felt unnatural, but he believed that's right. He continues to innocently stare at her, believing that he should wait for any other question she might have. He believes he's getting a handle of this conversation thing. Probably. He doesn't have enough experience to determine that. His book is closed and idle by the nearest desk, so Olivia can tell he's pretty much quite listening.

Olivia didn't see it that way at all. In fact, she was wondering if maybe he just simply didn't think her worth his time. She was glad to hear him finally answer her question though, and smiled at him in response "Miyarkus... I see. And may I ask where you are from, Miyarkus?" She asked. She briefly considered introducing herself, but she decided she would either do so after his answer, or if he didn't seem interested, not at all. Honestly she didn't mind. She was standing in the presence of a man who took the form of the gods, after all. Just the encounter alone was blessing enough.

Was this how simple conversations went? As much as he'd like to continue reading the pyromancy book, he didn't want to ignore her in exchange for it. Thus, he continues to give anything that honestly came to mind. What was their place called? It was a simple place of many homes, quite like this place, Vegera, but much less crowded and had few arcane sources, only those from his home and a few other rich people in the place were using it. He seriously never had discussions like this, so he broke eye contact to stare in silence for a bit as he thinks things out to reply properly. After a bit of wondering, he returned his simple gaze back.

"Village. Rywok. It's far from here." Miyarkus replies in a somewhat, deep-ish voice. He was not sure if he constructed the sentence right, but he's sure the woman seemed fine with his answers, since she doesn't look angry.

Another pause, breaking eye contact, and a short response... Clearly this was a man who knew she couldn't possibly be worth his time. Still, he hadn't outright said so, so she pressed on hopefully. Although she didn't want to waste too much of his time, so she opted to leave out her own introduction, at least for now "Really? What are you doing all the way out here, then?" She asked, genuinely curious "Are you going somewhere specific?"

This time, Miyarkus picks the book up and stands, simply reminded of the woman's question that he really needs to be exploring than to sit all day in a library. That was the exact opposite of his mission, to explore the world. He talks while he's shifting his pack, moving any belongings he liked.

"I need to travel. It was a mission." Miyarkus simply said as he now walks past her in long, brisk steps. Miyarkus hopes that whatever the woman needed was done, because he really needed to get a move on and he wasn't sure of how to leave a conversation. He goes down the stairs and passes through the halls, going around a corner twice because admittedly he got a bit lost. But he found the exit after glancing across the room for a bit and heads straight there. The librarian attendant seemed to have noticed something peculiar on Miyarkus' personage as he was about to leave, and shouts after him.

"Hey! What do you suppose you're doing with that book, sir?!" The woman said as they came up to him, blabbering something about payment and attempted theft, but she seems to be talking a lot more and a lot faster than Miyarkus has been ever used to listen to. This kind of got him a bit impatient as he taps his foot repeatedly and furrows his brows (lacking those, so at least the muscles above his eyes) as he simply waits until the lady is convinced to get out of the way, who was much shorter than her, but he was taught not to disrespect other people, even when they seem like they're speaking in a different language entirely.

Hunslaus Heinrich Visscher
It'd been a warm day, Hunslaus sweltering in his armour from heaving bags of grain back and forth. Perspiration dampening his brow in a dewy glow, alas there was something of a relief that his labour had come to an end. The paladin had been sent to the small seaside town in a pilgrimage to aid the missionaries here and there with spreading the word of the pantheon, besides other menial tasks he'd been shouldered. It wasn't any trouble in his eyes, after all, there was little else to do besides keep the peace and witness the preachers. It was in that village you could smell the salt whipped wind and listen to the crashing of the waves if one took the time to visit the shoreline.

Paladin's of Bellum were always recognisable, from the scraps of fabric scripture decorating the armour to the bronze highlighted steel plates that mimicked gold when reflected by the sun. As if they were on fire, flames flickering, burning. Purification. Nevertheless, Visscher found a place to sit outside of the local inn, nursing hot lemon water he'd so gratefully asked for. Whilst it wasn't on par with what the temple made, Hun had been overjoyed to discover they would give him the courtesy of making the drink. Other taverns had usually slammed down a pitcher of suspiciously unboiled water or ale. A take it or leave it deal. Holy men weren't oft welcome in the rattier places of rest, alas, you learned tricks to make it easier.

Watching people come and go was therapeutic, witnessing lives being led and futures planned. Laughter, sorrow, anger, the faces of strangers better reflected the essence of why these breathing machines of men and women would continue to live day after day. The bar was made of washed out oak, driftwood charms hanging where they could, whilst the tables were worn down with constant use and the chair legs wobbled occasionally when you sat down too heavily. Hunslaus had been momentarily worried seeing as his frame was larger than most, towering over the usual sorts of humans. His matron back at the old temple had called him half-giant, even earning the nickname Jotun. If it wasn't for his mother's eyes and tan skin, Visscher might've passed for a Northerner through and through.

He took a long sip from the warm tankard and unbuckled his gauntlets, sliding the leather and metal off his fingertips with each tug before his rough palms were exposed. The fingertips cracked from work, calluses hardened against weapons in training. One look at them and you'd of called him a worker's lad. Long, black locks had been drawn up into a bun at the base of his neck, yet strands messily cut across his face without bother to brush them off. Nursing the cup now, revelling in the heat as he cooled from his physical hefting, Hunslaus allowed his tired form to slump slightly, which appeared to sag his shoulders even as he remained propped up by the steel plates.

Sifting through one of the many medicine cabinets that lined his walls, the half elf sighed in frustration as his hand felt the inside of the smooth oak. There were no butterfly wings or flowers to be felt. Empty. He was out, of course, of the two things he needed to complete his potion of health restoration. Closing the cabinet with more force than needed be it shut with a loud thump. Wonderful... just wonderful... Blue Mountain Flowers were a rare breed in The Mystical Forest, which meant he couldn't go collect any himself. He would have to return to civilization to purchase more - a tedious thought, but one that he didn't have much of a choice in unfortunately. Xenos grabbed his pouch as he made his way towards the door, peaking inside to make a mental note of how much he could spend. It wasn't much, but it was enough.
The air began to smell of salt as Xenos approached the nearest town that he knew was buzzing with mages, which in turn meant he could easily find what he was looking for. The dark elf's golden eyes scanned the various texts outside stores, and the varying people that buzzed about around him. Some stared, some made it apparent not to look in Xenos' direction at all. He wasn't sure which he preferred. With a thoughtful sigh Xenos' attention fell onto an inn. It wasn't anything special, a simple place that probably didn't carry much... although... The elf perked up a bit at the thought of sweets. Sweet rolls to be exact, he was sure they probably carried them. With a tiny shrug he figured having something to snack on wouldn't hurt, and it wasn't like sweet rolls grew on trees. This was his one chance to get his hands on the delicious things. After tugging on one of his horns in contemplation the male began gravitating towards the local inn.
A striking glare of gold pierced Xenos' eyes as he walked towards the entrance. He blinked into a grimace, turning his head in the direction of what seemed to be the culprit. He locked onto a large man, very large, dressed in metal armor that was decorated by scripture he definitely recognized. A paladin? In a small seaside town such as this one? Allowing himself to stare for only a few seconds more- Xenos entered the inn without a word to the paladin. He knew that their belief in gods differed; and Xenos looked very much like a witch doctor, who very much obviously praised the Old God. He paid for his sweet roll hastily, tossing a few coins onto the counter without a care. He could hardly wait any longer. The golden curl of the bread accompanied by a white sweet glaze drizzled over the top. Finally, the male thought before taking a big bite into the sweet pastry he had been craving so much.

Olivia wasn't quite sure how to respond to this answer, so she just silently watched Miyarkus walk away. Well, at least she'd gotten to speak to him. Her daughter was going to be so jealous when she tells her she met a Dragon, she thought with a giggle. She was about to return to her reading before a commotion on the ground floor caught her attention. Peering down over the balcony, she saw Miyarkus, being chewed out by the librarian. Curious about what was going on, she made her way downstairs to listen in more closely.

Catherine let out an irritated sigh as she emerged from the merchant's stall. She'd found a map, for sure, but she wasn't happy about how she got it. She didn't steal it, nor was the merchant any less cheerful than normal. No, what annoyed her was that, as soon as the merchant saw her foreign coin, she could just tell by the look on his face that he was jacking up the price just for her. It was an exploitation tactic, taking advantage of foreigners who just didn't know better.

Okay, so maybe she wasn't in a position to complain about that so much. Still, she was sure she'd paid at least several more gold pieces than she should have for what basically amounted to scribblings on a piece of paper. At least she'd made sure they weren't actual scribblings. With her new map in hand and her destination in mind, she made her way towards the edge of town. Not much use sticking around here for too long if she didn't have to.

...Then again, she wasn't well known here. And she hadn't slept in a comfortable bed in a long time. Maybe she could afford to at least spend a few hours at an inn. She elected to head towards the nearest one, walking straight up to the counter to rent a room.

It was quite tiring and irritating, but he has yet to wait for her to continue giving her piece of mind. The lady seemed to slow down, probably realizing the foreigner has no idea of what she was asking for. She took this chance to snatch the book off of Miyarkus' grasp before he assumingly decided to run away with it, and goes back to the counter to check the book ideally for scratches and to identify where to return the book. It's quite old and musty, but whatever that dragon man wanted from this seemed, out of place, given this seemed to be one of the more simpler books pertaining to magic.

Miyarkus did not know that, and in his case, felt like he was the one who's stuff was stolen. Apparently, the system of trade was so unfamiliar to him he misunderstood the lady's expression. He was sure that's how it worked; some old person literally left with a book from the library just now after talking to the same lady, and due to this something is definitely wrong. Miyarkus spotted the same red-haired woman from before and knew this woman was kinder, so he approached her.

"I need that book. Can you help me retrieve it back?" Miyarkus said, almost as if to implore Olivia to return the book to believe what was rightfully his. That's how trade works, right? Getting stuff you need? I mean, that's how his guardian got food on the table every day once he got home with more vegetables and books. He just went home with them.

"Which one?" Olivia asked, looking at the librarian "Oh, the one she has? Um, I'm afraid that's not really how it works..." She said, wondering if this was some sort of test "You see, the library owns those books... They only let us read them. Other people also need that same book, so they have to make sure it stays here for them." She explained, hoping that was good enough for Miyarkus.

A place where books are kept, huh. So it's not a place for buying things. Like... his home. Books are just kept there. Is this someone's home? Probably the lady by the counter then. With that, Miyarkus turns towards the lady across the room and bows in apology, whether or not the lady understands the sentiment takes it anyway. Miyarkus looks back at the nice woman, wondering if she can answer more questions. After looking much more closely, she looked similar to his guardian, wearing robes and has an affinity for books. He decides he would like to stick with her for a bit, not wondering if she's fine by that. Deciding to sit by the nearest chair and residing in the first floor of Alignment for now, Miyarkus stares at the red-haired woman, and decides to ask some things.

"Tell me, I need to travel to a distant place south from here, I believe. Are you a traveler as well? What's your name? Do you perform magic, too?" Miyarkus asks one question to another, wanting to know more about this lady. She was intriguing and at least understanding, and he doesn't want to speak to anyone else who wasn't as nice as her, like the owner lady from earlier.

"Ah, you could say that." Olivia replied, smiling at him as she sat down as well "I come from overseas though, so I'm not very familiar with this area. Sorry." She added, before moving on to the next questions "My name is Olivia. Yes, I am a mage. Back home, I studied quite a lot about magic, and I decided to come here to see if I could learn anything else. So far the results have been..." She said, remembering the rune-based country from earlier "...Interesting."

Interesting, huh. Miyarkus wonders if she has seen said magic for herself, but he believes she can keep that information for herself. She seems to brim with the mystical energies he's familiar with, but still not quite like the ones he's familiar from sensing his guardian. After a quick check of the nearby shelves from his seat to see anything that interests him in the first floor, then realizing why he moved upstairs, he decides to return speaking with Olivia instead.

"Do you live here in Vegera? I think I was supposed to travel here first before I can reach my actual destination, so I came to this town to head south through a carriage. I've been quite skeptical of the use of one though. I don't trust horses, they're weird creatures." Miyarkus said, speaking to Olivia with whatever came to his mind, and opinions of some new things he has seen and heard of.

((Will be heading to a lunch buffet for now, so I won't be replying soon once you do so.))

Olivia shook her head in response "No, as I said, I live in a land across the ocean." She told him, wondering if he didn't hear her the first time. Or maybe he wanted more information "A kingdom called Lonnetor. It's a nice place, a lot of people enjoy travelling across it." She explained. She giggled at his grievances over horses "Oh, they're not that bad. They're actually very helpful, once you learn how to ride them. I've ridden a few in my lifetime."

"Oh, forgive me for forgetting, I admit I might have not been keenly listening than I might have needed to. Of course you wouldn't be living here..." Miyarkus said, flustering a bit from her correction. Olivia then mentions her place of origin, Lonnetor. He's not sure of the place himself, and he might have to travel there himself someday if he wants to explore the world.

"Riding a horse? That is of the possible? What form of magic do you use to stay upright on the horses? I believe they're only used for carriage bringing, are they not?" Miyarkus asked perplexed of the idea of mounting a creature such as that. He also might have to leave soon, given he scratches the cushion in expectation, but not until he learns of such sorcery.

Olivia chuckled a bit "No magic needed. All you need is practice." She replied. What kind of place was he from, where horses were only used for carriages? Then again, he did say he didn't like them, so maybe he just never thought about it "People ride horses all the time. They're very useful for getting to your destination quickly over land."

She herself was in no particular hurry to go anywhere. She found Miyarkus a bit amusing - Sure, he wasn't as godlike as she expected him to be, but that expectation simply stemmed from Lonnetor's culture. Dragons were never seen over there, the closest one could get usually were the Dragon Kemos. But even those were rare.

Huh... horses... never in Miyarkus' life did he think that they were just so... commonplace transports. With a bit of contemplation, he seriously can't imagine someone riding a horse for transport by itself. They're just, so simple creatures. However, before he becomes frustrated with the thought, he decided to drop it, and probably find that out for himself later. By searching for a carriage if he could... no, as soon as possible, because that was what he should be doing, after realizing his purpose. After looking around a bit more, Miyarkus stands and addresses Olivia.

"I will take my leave for the south today to... Mokorah? Kohma? Somewhere to continue my travels. Goodbye, Miss Olivia, it was a pleasure to meet you." Miyarkus said, and with a bow towards the nice woman, began to leave Alignment. The lady by the counter eyes Miyarkus again from head to toe but seeing this time he wasn't bringing out anything he shouldn't she returned to malevolently staring at the other customers instead.

A plaza, a farm, and then an inn, it was definitely such a large place here in Vegera than his previous town. It was of a different hue, somehow, instead of the lush green and bright stones back at home, there were some festive blue banners here to adorn the town instead, along with the large body of water the town was next to, much larger than any body of water he has ever seen. His guardian called it the sea, and people can only travel to other places by boat since it's very deep there and very wide for a single person to swim. As far as the eye could see in the bright horizon. Miyarkus realized he was simply staring out to port, looking at the beautiful water called the sea, and began to focus back to the north of town where the carriages that could send him south were located. It was a long walk, but definitely not too much of a chore since the pathway was large and convenient towards the exit.

In the north part of town lies a sort of carriage fare, a single man addressing a line of carriages pulled by the exotic horses. Miyarkus believed these were the ones he should find if he wanted to travel anywhere in this land. It somehow felt empty, no noise like that of Vegera, so after a bit of reluctance, Miyarkus believed he should converse with the single man he saw before who seemed to be tending the carriages. It was a short introduction, then a question of allowing entrance to one of the carriages for travel.

"So, you want to hire a carriage, Mr. Miyarkus? As you can see, the bastards all went for a drink at the local bar near the inn and bakery, so you can really only wait for one to return. Im'ma give them a piece of me mind about the business if they keep them up, so sorry for tha trouble. I'll cut a quarter of the fare for yah inconveniece, I guess." the short, stout man said, and returned to their three-legged stool. Miyarkus profusely thanked him, then decided to sit on one of the long, clean benches for waiting passengers the man indicated for him. Miyarkus hopes the problem could be solved quickly soon.

Olivia nodded in response "Likewise. Good luck on your travels." She told him, before standing up and leaving, herself. She headed for the market though, to stock up on supplies before she left for her next destination. Which... Actually, what was her next destination? She still wasn't entirely sure. She ran through the list in her head to see if she could decide on one while she shopped.

A sigh escaped Lilit as she walked rather aimlessly down a road. The white haired woman hadn't been in Vegera for all that long yet, but nothing had quite caught her eye. Unlike many of the others around the city, who were here to trade, work, or other such things, she didn't have a defined, direct reason for being at this village at the moment. As usual, of course, she simply searched for something "interesting" but the vagueness of that mission often resulted in the aimlessness she was feeling. Nevertheless, Lilit didn't have any intention of leaving the village yet. If she was that impatient, nothing interesting would ever cross her. There was bound to be something to learn in this village, something to take away from being in it.

While those thoughts ran through her mind, a strikingly reptilian face caught her eye. The vampire-like woman stopped walking for a moment. A dragon? In a port village like this? She didn't really know all that much about dragonkind. Despite her age, it wasn't often she came across them. Yet even still, she couldn't help but find it interesting. Yeah, that was the word. The only other dragons she'd met were the aggressive, proud types and such encounters had ended less than peacefully. The proper reaction for someone with her experiences upon seeing another dragon, even if he was more humanoid than the others, was to turn the other way.

"Hey, trying to take a carriage, huh? Mind if I talk to you a bit before you go...wherever?" Lilit approached the seated dragonkind, her voice a mix of confidence and interest. "I don't get a chance to see dragons often. You come from a village of people similar to yourself? Or maybe a half breed? Adopted?"

It was quite quiet here in the outskirts of Vegera, without the talk and babble of town and footsteps of busy people, he can hear the winds pushing the grass and the birds fluttering and chirping amongst the trees. So peaceful, just like back home. However, somebody seems to have arrived, and he swears that people outside home are so individually unique, it's quite common to be unique. A lady approached closer and struck up a conversation, Miyarkus bowing his head towards her in greetings. She entrusts him with so many questions, he was not sure how to answer them. Maybe he should answer them in order...

"Yes, I need to take a carriage, and yes you may talk with me. In my village, I think I'm the only one, since there's mostly humans. I'm not a half-breed or adopted, whatever those mean.
