Welcome to the Ranger Corps
Humanity has fallen, defeated, cast into the depths. Our folly concocting the elixir for the doom of Man. Cities burnt, Corpses littering the avenues of prior bliss, and the treasures of our species laid bare. As the clock strikes close to the Midnight of humanity, when the Moon castes is milky glow, our fading...last light.
Humanity has been wiped out for a few scattered strongholds, often wholly or partially underground, and hosting no more than several hundred thousand souls each. One of which is the London Underground--the old subway system and sewers transformed into a labyrinthine settlement below the abandoned streets of London, England. Hosting 300,000 souls that rarely see the light of day, a city beneath the Earth, and whose first and last line of protection is the Rangers.
The Rangers originally where a United Nations organization before the Fall. But as years turned to decades, and decades into a century, the original purpose and goal of the Rangers has since been lost or perverted. Now they serve to venture onto the surface world or to the depths of long forgotten locales in search of resources, technology, and information. Though it has fallen on hard times. It is a dangerous job, and as such viewed much as a punishment than a career of self sacrifice. As such about half the Corps is made up of people sentenced to a certain number of years to the Corps in exchange for having their previous crimes null and void upon completion of service. Crimes typically are petty or small time. Given the lack of resources and easily acquired living space more hard line criminals are either exiled to the surface or killed via summary execution. It is a harsh world after all, best be pragmatic about it.
The Corps is broken up into four branches or Divisions. Recon Division that actively goes up to the surface; Guard Division which protects the London Underground and any semi-permanent or permanent outpost; Auxiliary which manages Logistics; and finally Reserve which is made up of Reservists who agree to be called up to Auxiliary or Guard duties in case of emergencies.
