Graded [Kaisertin Village] Are You Doing Your Part?

397413.jpg

John Doe
Human [Mundane] | Mage | Ryken Adventurer [F]

Only John, Jack, and Mr. Fellowhide were left behind at the camp while Shere took off to lend a hand to the other group.

As the camp crew bided their time, luck was on their side as no trouble seemed to be making a beeline for them – well, not yet, at least. John wasn't about to drop his guard until he was dead sure things had settled. Knowing Jack's knack for being a bit skittish, John swung by to give him the once-over and popped the question, "You holding up, Jack?" They weren't exactly the muscle of the squad, but their game plan was to stay alert and ready for whatever curveballs fate might throw.

Then, turning his attention to Mr. Fellowhide, John casually inquired whether the halfling had any inside scoop on potential party crashers. "Got any hints if we're dealing with any unexpected, or are these just your regular run-of-the-mill bandit types?" Maybe the diminutive merchant had a few aces up his tiny sleeves that the others weren't privy to.

In the grand scheme of things, the smartest move for John was to keep his magic up and his senses tuned to high.

Summary:
  • Small talk to help Jack's nerves.
  • Inquiry for Mr. Fellowhide just in case he knows anything useful to their current situation.
  • Continue to use [Precognition F + Energized F + Supersense (Mana) F + Appraisal F] just in case any attacks came their way.

Rios

Rios could feel his entire body tense up the moment his precious sword snapped in two. A small part of him was happy that he had grown enough to where a single slash could kill a man. He couldn't help but acknowledge the larger part of him that was dismayed over breaking his first real sword. It hadn't been that long since he had acquired this weapon. However it had gone through quite a number of ordeals with him. Not only did it see him through the bandit hideout raid in Ryken. This sword had also gone through the intense training routine he had put himself through to improve his shoddy fundamentals. Now he held a handle as well as half a blade. The sight of the bandit nearest to him laughing at the sight of his broken weapon reminded Rios that he was still in a combat situation. Danger was all around him and he needed to fight even if he had half a weapon. The martial artist Shere had already made his presence known to the bandits and had even offered some encouragement for Rios. Taking up his broken blade and breathing in. Rios once again began his assault on the bandits that were attacking them.

The bandit in front of him was the one who laughed. His guard was likely low on account of him not taking Rios seriously as a threat. Rios dug his foot into the ground and exhaled to the point he could feel his blood begin to pump. Kicking off the dirt and trusting in the fact he had pushed himself in his speed training. A relentless Rios put his faith in his [Lucky D] that he would reach the bandit before the guy could raise his weapon. Once he was close enough to the brigand. Rios quickly swung his half-sword across the mans throat with untrained precision.

Himeno, more or less, ran, rather awkwardly as she kept apologizing to her impromtu shield, who kept screaming with every arrow appearing in his body, towards the direction of where the arrows were flying from, "I'm sorry.. but your allies won't stop trying to shoot me."

Upon reaching the brush, she saw several of the bandit archers, their expressions rather alarmed and horrified, though Himeno felt a little bad at being scary to them, before tossing her still screaming shield onto the closest one, sending them tumbling into the foilage. She then swung her war hammer at the bandit still standing nearby, but not before he loosed yet another arrow, this one close enough to strike close to her face!

The arrow deflected on her helm's faceguard but still managed to cut her cheek as it splintered, the wound was small but enough to cause a line of crimson to streak her face, Himeno's steps faltered as she flinched, "Ow!"

Gritting her teeth she charged and tackled him, her shoulder guard slamming and crushing the archer's bow before thundering into the man's chest, propelling them both into a nearby tree. In the explosion of splinters and debris Himeno slammed the war hammer's pommel into the bandit's stomach before stepping back for range, then finishing him off with a powerful downward stroke.

Still frowning Himeno pratically stomped over to the other recovering bandit, who had just managed to disentangle themselves from their comrade, but did not have time to do little else before she finished him off as well, her war hammer a blur with each attack. She did not stop until both were certainly done suffering.

Stumbling over to a nearby tree, Himeno gingerly touched her cheek, her fingers coming away scarlet, she teared up then before murmuring, "That was close."

Summery: -Carried bandit#3 and tossed him at bandit#5 using Super Strength F.
-Took minor damage to her cheek from arrow splinter.
-Shoulder tackled bandit#6 before striking with war hammer and finishing him.
-Finished off bandit#5 and bandit#3 with war hammer.

Jack is startled when John starts talking to him, his entire body in fight or flight mode already. “S-sorry.” He apologises before nodding his head. “Y-Yeah, I’m okay. I think.” He says nervously before looking to the treeline, listening to the battle going on.

“D-Do you think they need help?” He asks John and Mr. Fellowhide. Jack bites his lip, thinking. Even if they did need help, John definitely needed to stay to guard the camp. Jack saw firsthand how powerful John was compared to him. He sighs deeply, putting a hand over his chest as he contemplates ways he could help without getting absolutely maimed. Maybe he could create a distraction of some sort? His stomach sinks at the thought of getting caught in the middle of a battle. He would just stay here.

Jack’s hooves clop nervously on the ground, his bell chiming lightly with each movement.

Fellowhide looked toward the grove of trees; while there were too many trees to see what was going on inside, the sounds of fighting could be clearly heard. Sitting on the wagon's edge, he pulled out his pipe and ignited it again. Once the embers started, he sucked in a few times as the contents began to burn. He grabbed the edge of the pipe as he looked at the group left here to protect the camp. Though the mage in his mind seemed to have experience, he wasn't sure what Jack could do in this situation. To him, the goat boy looked like he had taken more of a bite than he could handle. He was skeptical about some of the party members already though the current display didn't promise a bright future for the goat boy in this line of work.

When John asked his question, he brought his hand up to his chin as he thought about it momentarily. "Well, I mean, as a merchant, many other merchants could want to see me in ruin, though if that was the case, I'm sure they would have laid an ambush for us rather than attack a small group in the groves," Fellowhide responded as he glanced toward Jack for a moment as the goat boy contemplated his next actions. "I'm sure the others will come out fine, or if not well we will know soon enough," he replied with a simple shrug of his shoulders so long as he arrived at his destination with his cargo he could careless.

Meanwhile, in the woods, Shere did in fact come in contact with the bandits as he brought them to the ground and started to move forward again, one of the bandits grabbed a dagger and stabbed Shere in the foot as he moved away. The bandit then got to his feet as he went and stabbed Rio in the foot but was too slow as Rio surged forward slashing the bandit's throat with relative ease. As Himeno threw one of the bandits, it caused the target to fall on top of the other. Just as she was about to bring the warhamer down on the others, one of the bandits got out from under his comrade and took off sprinting as he was the sole remaining bandit.

Azusa quickly used Headshot as she took aim and fired off a chalk round which was then followed up by another as the second round hit the bandit that had stabbed Shere he dropped to the group. Azusa looked around as there was now no one else standing besides the group, to which she let out a sigh as she hit the magazine release and examined the rounds she had left.
"Well then, bandits are out here that I didn't expect so close to the bugs," Azusa replied shaking her head as she looked at the others. "We should grab the wood and head back before we get ambushed by something else, glad that the others heard the commotion," Azusa concluded nodding her head toward Shere before grabbing some wood and heading back toward the camp.

"Good show everyone, good show! Anyone hurt?" A pair of firm claps punctuated the words. Even as the battle came to a close Shere didn't stop moving about, walking to Himeno to give her some company as they grouped back up. She seemed to be taking it the worst. He gave her a soft pat on the shoulder and her armor rang out in the quiet of the trees with a clean little "clang", and neither staring nor making unwelcome remarks he passed her a handkerchief to wipe blood and tears with. "Well after all that for some wood we might as well make it a big fire. Still good for it? Azusa could use a hand, I believe."

He gently tried to encourage her to go along, to shift the armored girls' attention away from the blood and corpses and back to the relative calm of the camp. As for himself, he immediately set about pacing around the fallen, checking them, disarming them and separating the dead from those still breathing. "If anyone needs a weapon urgently you might as well help yourselves." He offered to no one in particular as to not single Rios out. Maybe he liked his broken sword or something and besides, someone else might have use for some of the stuff.

He made his way back to camp, but not alone, for on his shoulders were the still unconscious bandits taken prisoner. Then and only then, from the added weight, did he realize that the feeling of something running down his leg and stepping on wet patches wasn't stopping, accompanied by a familiar discomfort. He looked down and sure enough, one could neatly trace his latest comings and goings footprint by bloody footprint left by a little gusher of a puncture that he was only feeling now that he was coming down from the rush. It looked so much worse than it actually was.

"Ah. Me, I'm hurt. Does anyone have anything for treating stab wounds? Before I really start feeling it would be wonderful."

John valued Fellowhide's direct response, though he found himself slightly unsettled by the halfling's casual demeanor. Whether it stemmed from seasoned confidence or the skepticism of a well-lived life, John worked to remain unfazed by it, keeping a vigilant watch.

Shifting his attention to Jack, John was relieved to hear him speak. Despite Jack's tension, as long as communication remained possible, John believed he was still a valuable team member.

"If Mr. Fellowhide's instincts prove right, they might return soon." Uncertain of their return, John aimed to maintain optimism at this early stage of their mission, avoiding thoughts of failure. "Let's just remain hopeful, Jack."

Several minutes passed, dispelling concerns as the wood gathering party returned with not just lumber, but also two unconscious figures.

"Well done, everyone. I hope you're all okay." John noted specks of blood trailing Shere, but his continued activity suggesting that it was a minor injury. "As you can see, the camp was relatively quiet. "

Directing his focus to the captives, John wished they were mere common bandits. Yet, given the opportunity, he prudently ensured caution. There was no harm in being too safe.

As the captives laid motionless, John raised an arm and used [Pry] seeking any pertinent information before he tried waking them.

"Thank you so much, Shere.", Himeno gingerly touched the cloth to the hurt on her cheek, the fabric turning a spot of crimson, but otherwise it didn't seem so bad. She dabbed at the small wound until she returned to the spot with the firewood before putting it away in one of her pouches and collecting as much firewood as her one free arm allowed, the other carrying the warhammer.

Her body used to the weight of the armor and weapon, the firewood didn't seem to affect her that much what with her Super Strength, and with a smile towards Azusa, returned to camp. Himeno carefully unloaded what firewood she had carried over before excusing herself to her own sleeping spot in camp to tend to her wound.

Sitting down on a low stone, Himeno propped her warhammer against a larger nearby stone, before taking off her helm, revealing her sweaty and partially bloody face, strands of her dark hair clung to her features, and again with the cloth Shere had kindly offered her, dabbed at the wound until she was sure it'd stopped bleeding. She took out her limited drinking water to rinse and clean the scratch.

Himeno looked at the soiled cloth and decided she'd clean it as best she could before returning it to Shere.

Summery: -Used Super Strength f to carry fire wood to camp.
-Used limited knowledge of whatever first aid she remembered from her previous life to heal the scratch on her cheek.

Fellowhide continued to watch the treeline as the group slowly emerged from the grove, he was rather surprised to see Azusa was the first one to walk out. Though even from here he could tell there was a lack of blood on the girl, as he took another long inhale of the pipe he saw the others finally emerge from the grove. "Well it seems like some of the group here is more helpful than others, a few of them doesn't have a spec of blood on them, makes me wonder," Fellowhide trailed off as he saw that Shere was carrying two bandits along with him and brought them to the camp. The Halfling cocked his head as he wasn't sure what the point as with all of that.

Though the one that Fellowhide wasn't sure about was Jack, there was a look of concern if only for a moment on the halfling's face as he returned his attention back to the group. As John turned his attention to the bandits captured, there wouldn't be any signs of any affiliation and the rest of their stats were nothing special and it for all purposes looked like these bandits were just the run of the mill migrants that happened upon the area.

Azusa dropping the wood next to the fire turned around as Shere asked about a stab wound, She set her pack down and opened it digging into it for a moment before grabbing some bandages. "Here use this to wrap the wound, I don't have anything to close the wound but if you wrap it it should at least keep you from bleeding out. Just make sure you change it once a day," Azusa stated as she took some flint and steel and struck it several times on some bark and slowly placed some of the fire wood in the fire pit. After a few moments the fire was now a decent size good enough to be used for cooking as the sun now set over the horizon.

"Tomorrow is the day we will be entering bug territory, we should be on the lookout, not many reports of attacks but there have been sightings," Azusa warned as she looked over at Fellowhide who simply shrugged his shoulders on the matter. It seemed evident that the man cared more for making money than he did his own life and the lives of others. "I heard there is a large bug that has been spotted in the area we are going to be traveling through," she warned before pouring some water into a pot and starting to let it boil.

"I think I will turn in for the night, make sure your two friends there don't escape or try something," Fellowhide stated as he let out a yawn pointing at the two bandits that were now tied up to a tree with some rope. Though he still questioned the decision to keep them here, he saw it as a risk. As the group slowly one by one turned in the night started to light up as the sun was starting to slowly rise over the horizon.

Though much to the group's surprise, there was a loud banging sound that echoed through the camp as Fellowhide hit two pans together to wake up everyone else. "Wake up! Its time to start packing up and getting a move on!" The Halfling called out when he was satisfied he hit the pans together once more and then started to walk back over to his wagon.

Azusa shot up from the sounds as she grabbed her gun only to realize that it was their employer. She rubbed her eyes before glaring at the halfling as he started to walk back toward the wagon. Shaking her head she put the gun down as she stood up and started to stretch.

Shere
Character Grade F - [Martial Artist]
"Good morning everybody, hope the rest was better than the waking."

The late night and early start and loss of bodily fluids seemed to have drained Shere not at all, by his still cheerful demeanor. Just another day in the life, if anything this was him being very inactive. He lay on his back facing away from the center of camp, injured foot propped up against a tree, and to look at everyone else he had to turn his head upside down and rest on its crown. The bandages had been changed, in fact he had his own since he owned no shoes and wore foot wraps in the first place, and it was hard to know when exactly he'd woken up and gone about his day. Maybe the bandits could say.

Their bindings had been added to, rather spitefully at that. Both arms and legs were now tied well tight in uncomfortable positioning, their mouths were covered, and to pay back injury with insult they were partially bound with the bloodied cloth that had covered Shere's foot the night before. They had, at least, been moved to the main road so that they would surely be found sooner or later after the group departed, and written with charcoal was a message: "For the safety of common folk and convenience of authorities, adventurers leave here these thieves and murderers alive and their gang less so."

He had signed his name on the message in a single stroke of flowy, messy cursive.

"Well it didn't feel right to just leave them to get eaten by animals, let alone letting them walk it off more or less scott-free. Anyone else want to put their name to the deed?"

Rios awoke to the sight of a broken blade in his hand. His sword was still broken from the skirmish of the previous day. He had chosen to keep it with the intention of having a blacksmith turn it into something else. Parting with his first real weapon was simply too difficult. Unfortunately he hadn't been able to find another longsword among the belongings of the bandits. All he had was this rusty looking greatsword thing that barely looked like it sooner crush his foes than cut them. Luckily he could lift it or he'd be up the creek without a paddle. Clicking his neck and strapping his new weapon to his back. Rios looked over at the sheep known as Jack. Once again he questioned why exactly the little ram had accepted this job when he probably knew there was a risk of monsters, bandits or monster bandits. Perhaps he just wanted to provide support from his position near the wagon. Rios found this to be a lot more logical than Jack simply going on this quest and expecting things to go well. Shere had signed a very flowery note for anyone who came across the tied up bandits who they HADN'T killed yesterday. Rios followed along with the group once they had set out. Supposedly they were in bug territory now. Hopefully they wouldn't run into anything too dangerous today. Although given how they ran into bandits on their first day traveling. Rios didn't have a lot of faith in things going particularly well.

Upon observing the group's return, Fellowhide's nonchalant attitude didn't surprise John, but it didn't exactly sit well either. His suspicions lingered, but he focused on the task at hand.

As Shere brought back two unconscious bandits, John's decision to stay up and keep watch during the night seemed justified. It was a way to make up for his earlier inaction and ensure the captives didn't escape. With the bandits' true criminal nature revealed, he felt a sense of validation in his cautious approach.

The following morning, Fellowhide's obnoxious wake-up call didn't improve John's mood. His skepticism toward their captives being left alive grew stronger. He regarded the halfling's profit-driven behavior with an internal eye-roll. Just as they were about to move, John's frankness emerged.

"Leaving these bandits alive after what they pulled? Not exactly my favorite idea." John spoke out loud, a hint of resentment lingered in his words. His hands let out a faint bluish glow as mana started to condense along his palm. Already reminded about his previous encounter with criminals, the night's watch had given him a more personal perspective on the situation. The practicality of disposing of the captives versus the ethical considerations tugged at him.

He sighed and cast a wary glance at the bound bandits. We wanted to put an end to their lives right at then and there, but their mission had just started. If he gave into his thoughts, it wasn't unlikely that some form of negativity among them would start to fester. "Well, let's just hope we're not making a decision we'll regret later." The spell he was conjuring up slowly vanished, and the mana he was previously gathering disappating into thin air. The internal struggle between his loyalty to the team and his personal values was evident, though he chose to suppress further commentary for now. The path ahead was uncertain, and his focus was on navigating it effectively.

As the group slowly got ready and decided what they would do with the bandits, Azusa brought her hand to her chin. "Well I mean its either let them wander down the road until they find someone or we take care of them now. I mean they knew full well what they were getting into when they took up this profession," Azusa replied with a simple shrug of her shoulders. She didn't feel bad about leaving the group here to fend for themselves. But at the same time, she didn't want them to come back and bite them later. Though the odds of that happening were not very high. So she really didn't care what happened to them so long as it didn't come ack to haunt them.

After a few more moments the bandits were tied to one another and told to walk down the road, though Azusa added a blind fold so they could only see the ground by their feet. With that done she dusted her hands off and Fellowhide hopped onto his spot on the wagon. "I don't know a whole lot about this business though, I think taking them with us to the next town would have been wiser. At least that way we would know they wouldn't be waiting potentially the next time," The halfing frowned before lighting his pipe and snapping the reigns of the ox as they slowly started to move down the road.

As the day continued, there was a gentle breeze that kept the air cool as the group traveled. As the hours went by the group would notice there were fewer and fewer travelers appearing on the road. "Looksl like we are entering bug territory now, I would be on the look out, these things apparently have been causing trouble for some time now. I would imagine its only going to get worse before getting better," Fellowhide stated as he didn't even bother to look back at the group as he spoke.

Himeno woke to the sound of Fellowhide's yelling, groaning as she hurried to wash up before slipping back into the majority of her armor, taken of to sleep the night before, the wound on her cheek forgotten, and chewed silently on a small breakfast of a handful of dried berries, nuts, hard cheese, and meat that was tough as hide leather. She met each of her companion's eyes eventually during the morning's events of packing up and readying to continue their journey, nodding and giving a smile to each.

While she wanted to either simply kill the bandits or perhaps take off their right hand and a foot, something Himeno remembered from the old history of her previous life, but didn't feel as if it was truly up to her.. since she hadn't been the one to capture them. They were, in effect, Shere's to do with whatever he wished. The decision to just release them bound and blindfolded seemed strange honestly though, if the bandits run into any allies of theirs then they'd be back to their old business and if they ran into anything dangerous then the group had just cosigned them to a potentially horrible death instead of a quick one. But it was too late to do anything else so Himeno simply accepted it, watching the bandits dissappear from where she sat on the cart.

Himeno waved and hailed the few travelers they passed on the road throughout the day, she enjoyed the weather, watching the sun glide across the blue above them alongside the white clouds that looked like white castles in the sky, and feeling the soft wind making the few strands of her dark hair dance. Smiling Himeno whistled a random tune from an anime song from her old life as she kept scanning their surroundings from where she sat on the cart, not minding this at all since they needed to be vigilant against any more possible threats but also loving looking over the beautiful scenery.

"It's beautiful, isn't it?", she asked the little goat boy, Jack, as they rambled along the road, the sounds of the cart's wheels adding to the music of the wind in the trees and birds singing as they flew all about them.

Eventually catching Shere's attention for a moment at another time she spoke, "Thank you again for the cloth yesterday, it was very kind. How's your foot? I wish I knew healing.. maybe we can ask any passerbys if they have any salves or the like for it?"

At one time Himeno tried sparking conversation with the one called John, with a grin she inquired, "How are you? I don't mean to pry, but I'm asking because you didn't seem too happy about what happened this morning.. with the bandits, I mean."

When Fellowhide's announcement about their entering bug territory Himeno asked, "Mr. Fellowhide? Please, could you tell me how much further it is to the next town? Shere's foot needs healing and maybe we can do some trading? I'd love it if you were to show me some of your skills at bein a merchant, please."

Shere
Character Grade F - [Martial Artist]
Shere made himself abundantly comfortable in the cart, taking up as much space as he could (though making sure not to splay himself out on Himeno and Azusa, that would be uncouth) while pointing to his injured foot that he made sure to keep extended and suspended. And with nothing to keep him busy, all along the ride he expounded, in typical good humor, the shallow grasp of the theatrics behind heroics that the group clearly displayed.

Starting with the most obvious point: that harming someone in the heat of a battle for one's life is entirely different from calmly maiming or killing another who is clearly at one's mercy, and how normal people do not, in fact, even think about such a thing at all. Responsible use of power and standing is, after all, a critical matter for civilized life and good practice to raise oneself, as there is little gain and no merit in wanton cruelty.

There was also leaving local threats for locals to find because it directly impacts them, choosing a good public spot where people will find the vanquished such as the traveled roads they preyed upon, presenting the criminals in a way that deprives them of their freedom for the safety of others without feeling unjustly punitive, how creating talk behind a name is good practice because hearsay and imagination go further than actual deeds...

He spoke free and fluid and gesticulated plenty, the injury seemingly a complete afterthought to him if it even warranted considering at all.

As a matter of fact, when Himeno broached the topic he flashed a grin and raised both hands in an OK sign. "No need for any of that, think nothing of it!" Whether he meant his injury or his kindness he didn't specify. "All in a day's work, all in the life, why let it tie us down? No no, we'll make merry once we reach the destination, the sooner the better. So, lets just enjoy the ride, it's a beautiful day still."

As the group traveled, the rest of the journey was uneventful as the next several days proved to be uneventful. As the border came into sight, a long queue of people were being inspected as they crossed. Merchants had their passes out and were patiently waiting for their turn. As Mr.Fellowhide brought the cart to a stop he pulled out his pass and looked at the group, "This is where we go our separate ways, here is the signed paperwork for the guild. Now if you excuse me I will be here for some time waiting to cross the border and I wish you all luck in your future travels," The halfling spoke as he lit the pipe once again and took a long drag from the pipe.
