Istar's Trial

Istar frowned , dissapointed the painting was too faded and old for her to discern any features. But at least now she knew that the dungeon had to have been abandoned quite a long time ago.

As you ponder the art you are caught unaware and are surprised by the sudden pull and tearing in your pant leg. You turn to see a scorpion the size of a small dog poised and ready to strike!

Istar dropped her moon rod immediately , drawing her well-treasured sword and wielding it with both hands. The polished Adamantine glinted in the dim light of the moon rod , stabbing straight for the large Scorpion.

The point of your sword punctures through the tough carapace of the scorpion, accompanied by a crunching sound. Your blade continues through to burst out through the other side is monstrous arachnid.

It thrashes about for a moment in its death-throes before is limbs fall limp. The legs start curling under its body. Ichor slowly seeps along the tip of your blade and onto the floor.

Istar watched the scorpion die carefully , only withdrawing her blade when she was sure of it's death. She held her sword at the ready , tightly gripping it in her hands as she surveyed the room carefully for any more of the creatures. If any more of the Largw Scorpions attacked her , she would be ready.

The room is still and quiet, you see no other creatures or signs of an attack. But you do see the trail from the manger left by the scorpion.

You notice the manger and crate seem to have the least amount of cobwebs and dust on them.

With the room still , Istar flicked the scorpion's blood from her sword and returned it to the leather sheath at her hip. "I suppose the Scorpion lived in the Manger" , she said , commenting on the trail the creature left leading into the trough. The elf walked over to the crate and crouched in front of it , looking it over for traps. "The scorpion must've killed all the animals.. or it was guarding this crate. That's the only reason it could have cobwebs than the rest of the room."

Looking into the manger you note the nest, or what you think is a nest, that the scorpion had been waiting in. You see but of debris and refuse from past meals and a half made burrow made of an old blanket and bones. Your look into the crate reveals a much more appealing find.

Gold coins.

Without reaching in to count them, you estimate about a dozen or so of them.

Istar smirked ever so slightly as her hypothesis about the Scorpion's nest was confirmed , a smirk which swiftly widened into a merry smile as she found the gold coins. She wasn't treasure-centric , but the dozen or so gold coins nevertheless served to brighten her mood. "Now I just need to get out of here!" , she gleefully exclaimed as she counted the coins and put them in a pouch on her belt.

You count a total of 14 gold coins that clink into your pouch and weigh it down in a satisfying manner.

Still smiling , Istar rose to her feet and turned left out of the small room. At the intersection's exit she halted , taking a brief moment to reorient herself and decide which path she wished to take.

Looking to the left(North) you see a door on the right(East) side of the passage about four strides(20 feet) away and about two strides (10 feet ) from that door you see an opening on the same side.

Looking to the right(South) you see an opening on the left(East) side about six strides down the passage and about two strides past that is another opening to the right(west) side. The passage to the right(South) is familiar as that is the way you came from.

After her brief pause , Istar swiftly decided to turn left and continue exploring the seemingly endless passageway before stopping at the door on her right. Just as she had previously , the Elf investigated the door for any traps or other abnormalities.

After a careful examination of the door you are pretty sure there is nothing unusual or trap like about this solid stone door. You can see the iron pull resting in its usual place.

Istar's head quirked to the side ever so slightly , an inquisitive expression coloring her features. "Solid Stone? Why would it be.." Her expression shifted into a revelatory smile as her mind came to a conclusion. "This has to be the exit!" Practically jittering with excitement , she gripped the iron ring and pulled it towards herself.

The stone door opens will little effort, a soft stone on stone scraping can be heard, but out does not echo off the walls.

Before you notice anything about the room itself, you see a large skeletal creature turning towards you. Its size takes up the majority of what you can see, its head just below the domed roof of the room, if it extended it's arms they would easily touch the walls to the right and left(North and South) about two strides(ten feet) apart. The greatclub in its large skeletal hand, which is covered in a rotted leather gauntlet, is held easily for how big it is.

Roll initiative!

Istar dropped her moon rod and drew her sword the moment she saw the hulking skeleton , tightly gripping the weapon in both hands , gritting her teeth and preparing for what would assuredly be a difficult fight.

The skeleton steps toward you and swings the greatclub at your chest.

(If hit take damage, if missed the club takes a chunk out of the stone wall)

Istar felt the heavy club pass mere inches from her chest , a blow that she was sure would've nearly killed her. Swiftly she aimed a two-handed chop for the Skeleton's torso , hoping to take advantage of the opening provided upon the club's backswing.

You feel your blade connect with some of exposed ribs of the long dead ogre, had this been a living opponent you know this would have been a serious injury. But the ribs did not shatter, but merely a few chips fly free as your sword bites in.

Not appearing to notice your attack, the skeletal creature swings the massive club back up towards your head.

The club smashed into the lower right side of Istar's face , causing the taste of blood -and a few of her teeth - to fill her mouth and throwing her to the left. On instinct alone she immediately put her left hand to her cheek , using her healing abilities in an attempt to restore as much of her health as possible. When she truly came to her senses she focused as much positive energy as she could muster through the holy symbol at the pommel of her sword , forming it into a wave she hoped would weaken the skeletal creature.

The wave of positive energy washes over the skeletal ogre, causing it to shudder and a skin crawling shriek to erupt from it, taking step back. Still shaking it swings at you, but does not step into the swing, which misses you entirely.

Istar smiled as she noticed the sheer effectiveness her 'attack' upon the creature had. Still clutching her sword in her dominant right hand , she ran up to the Skeleton and grasped the nearest exposed piece of bone , trying to use the same abilities she had used to heal herself to destoy it.

As you grab hold of the exposed ribs the divine power courses through you into the undead abomination. It shrieks in pain as the life giving energy burns through it.
It's right boney hand, more like a claw, savagely slashes at you.

Istar narrowly bit back a yelp as the slash cut deep gashes into her left side , the worst of which exposed a large section of her femur and nearly snapped it in two. In response , she did the only thing she could - the dignified Paladin , tears beginning to form in her eyes , immediately let go of the creature and turned for the door , running as fast as her severely damaged left leg could carry her. She could only pray the creature didn't follow her , didn't use the opportunity to strike her down as she shamefully retreated.
