Fantasy Howl's Flying Castle (Finished! ---Whoo! (*^▽^)/)

Winnifred Notch

Winnifred watched as the stag bounded down the path towards her. Pursing her lips as it halted and both James and Rhea rolled off the back. She thought for a moment when James questioned where his sister was before answering his question. "Most likely she is at the Manna tree, seeing that is where we all agreed to meet in the first place. As for the twins I do not know as their logic confuses me." She sighed as she saw James frazzled appearance. "They couldn't have gone to far. Here give me Rhea and you go look with your stag. My creature can care for Rhea as he looks and I will join your owl in the sky. We'll find them before anything happens so don't worry. I doubt they skipped town." She said, holding her hand out for James to give her Rhea.

Truthfully she was unsure how this would all play out but she knew she couldn't let James know about her uncertainty, seeing he was already so frantic about it. She hadn't seen anything go off and hadn't heard screams so she assumed the twins had not done anything major just yet, but the night was young.

James eyed the shadow man with uncertainty. "No, I'll hold her." he said protectively pulling Rhea closer to his chest. "Thanks anyway, I'll start asking the city guards."

@Aio

Meanwhile, on the other side of the city the twins were hiding behind a water barrel in jester costumes. They were surrounded by colorful cages on wheels, painted for the parade and marked with arcane seals. Inside were creatures of all sorts from chocobos from the Giza plains, murlocks from the swamps of Bulgoo, furbolgs from the elven forest of Ashenvale, and the rarest of them all: a chimaera from who knows where. The chimaera was a large red creature as big as a bear with the heads of a lion and a goat, and a venomous snake for a tail. It growled at the twins and the two grinned at each other.

"This so cool!" Sen whispered.

"We should feed it."

"Yeah, then maybe it'll be our pet! There's a bucket of fish over there near the komodo rhinos, come on." They walked casually over to the komodo rhinos with a bucket of water and a broom they found lying around as though they were going to clean the cage. They switched buckets and loitered around the chimaera's cage. The beast snarled menacingly at them.

"Aw, Sen, there's a 'shell barrier' over the cage, the fish won't go through the bars." whispered Seth, feeling a wall.

"So? Break it, isn't that your specialty?" said Sen who was pretending to be busy counting coins.

"It's just . . . what if something goes wrong?"

"What could possibly go wrong?" said Sen confidently.

Renee held onto one of Roderick's hand so he doesn't get lost again as they got closer to the gate. That voice lead her here and it's...felt wrong to even be here, but someone needed help. The teen saw a white light pass through a keyhole from the other side. Being curious, she let go of her brother's hand and peeked in the door's keyhole, feeling that she just activated something; Next thing she knew, Renee is inside and facing the door...alone. The transformed teen turned around (stumbling almost as she's starting to feel strange inside like a dream) and saw the roots, all black and dead with dark blight arching above the stone path that has arcane symbols. She turned back at the door, banging on it as she yelled at her brother. "Don't come inside...Get James and Winne!! Don't come inside!!" She repeated over and over before stopping and hoped her brother left to find James and Winne.

Renee heard the voice again, a bit more clear than before. She followed it, stumbling as she dazedly walked towards it. She's in here to help someone, might as well continue what she started. The path opened to a chamber, she couldn't see through the darkness and it smelled horrible! Like...like...Renee created a small sphere like a ball that little kids play with and puts it on her gem, letting a small amount of solar energy in the sphere. With a bit of light of her own, she can finally see only to back up a bit as she gasped quietly, her wings folded tightly against her skull to her fear. "A...a huge egg? That's what's causing all these blights? What the-?!"

She has never see this before in all her life. The transformed teen gathered up her courage and walked up to the core, trying to ignore the shadows that seem alive and studied the roots. "It's...the egg is sucking the tree's roots...Is that what's causing this tree's sickness? It must be..." She heard the small light's voice pleading for help, but she didn't know how since the egg was huge! It was too big for her to do something. She tried touching it, only to be hit and was pushed back by the egg's dark energy. Renee groaned when she landed on the ground, losing her only light source as her barrier was broken and the solar energy escaped. The teen pushed herself to sit back up to see the small light, frowning a bit as she slurred her words. "Don't worry...somebody will come and help you. I don't think I can, but I'll keep you company until then..." The white-haired teen slowly stood back up and walked to the light that's under the core. "I'm sorry...I'm not good at helping, it seems...for you or for my family." She smiled sadly at the white light, her wings wilting a bit as she sat down, waiting for her brothers to come and help.

Winnifred Notch

Winnifred let her hands drop, and could help but feel slightly offended because he did not trust her. After all her shadow was only a minor extension of herself. Though she knew she should understand where he was coming from. Since she was part of the family why should he trust her. She shoved the thought away smiling slightly before turning as she whispered. "Corvus." She said and with this she was transformed into a raven and flew up into the sky, while her shadow went in the other direction in search of the brothers.

Soaring above Winnifred could see everything. That is when she saw the circus of sorts. She had a thought that the twins would most likely have made their way over here seeing it was their kind of thing. Circling over she saw two figures crouched behind a barrel. Going down she landed on a post behind the two as she squawked before turning back into her human form with her arms crossed and a from on her face. "You boys lost?"

- A Mysterious Voice Calls -

" Inside the Gate "

There was a great cracking and shifting of rocks that echoed around the cavern of the ancient ruins, then the roots underneath the colossal dragon egg slowly parted and a shaft of bright white light shot out from the gaps.

Inside was a small glowing white branch with two little leaves. It was pulsing with so much arcane energy it seemed like a gust of wind was constantly surrounding it. The dark blight from the dragon egg was closing in around it and from the way the intensity of its glow was growing and diminishing, the little plant seemed to be fighting a losing battle.

"Do not feel that way when you haven't even tried." said the little voice kindly, and it was obvious now that it had been this little branch that had been calling. It bent forward, it's leaves reaching out to Renee desperately. "Please pull me out of here!"

Suddenly above, the sleeping baby dragon opened a fierce gargantuan orange eye and glared down at Renee with such a heavy piercing stare it was as if she was going to be eaten by it if she tried to pull out the plant. Behind the winged teen, the shadows were stirring violently and tall wicked shapes began to rise from the darkness that seemed to grow heavier, more oppressive, and suffocating.

" Manna Tree, Lower Levels"

It wasn't hard for James to find out where Renee went, his sister usually stood out in a crowd because of her wings and the jewel on her brow.

"What is this place? . . . " James said quietly to Frey and Rhea gazing up at the great door he found at the end of an abandoned path half an hour later. He had never read about this door in the history of the manna tree, and what a strong arcane power that was emanating from the other side.

"Jam, I don't like this place." said Rhea, clutching his robes. "Can we go back?"

"Yes, we're going back --- wait, is that a white feather?" There in front of the door was a feather that obviously came from Renee's wings. James picked it up, frowning. Was his sister inside? He touched the door.

Immediately, the light of the day went out and he froze. What just happened? Did the sun just die? Wait, why wasn't he holding Rhea?

"Cervo Venire!" yelled James, scared. Frey materialized from a small puff of smoke and the stag's silver-white glow lit up the area. James was facing the same door, but he wasn't outside, he was inside.

"Rhea?! RHEA!" he yelled looking frantically for his sister, but he was alone. And now it seemed that a drowsiness was washing over him, he leaned on Frey for support who encouraged him to ride on his back. James obliged. "Frey, we have to look for Rhea."

The stag snorted and cantered towards a path roofed by arching black roots.

Meanwhile, outside the tall mysterious door, Frey's fallen saddle and James scattered shopping things now joined Renee's feather on the grass. Rhea was nowhere to be found.

   - Sen and Seth -

"Paroosia City Square, Travelling Circus"

"Gah!" jumped Seth in surprise, accidentally splashing Winnifred with the bucket of fish.

"BLOODY TROLLS, RUN!" yelled Sen, grabbing his brother. The twins made a dash for it, telling anyone who would listen that, "There's a violent lady chasing us! We accidentally splashed her with water, but she wants to beat us up!"

Some people looked over at Winnifred. The twins were wearing jester costumes as if they were part of the circus people, and the circus people's sympathies seemed to lean more on the mischievous twins whom they thought was one of their own.

Meanwhile, back in the chimaera cage, the beast was surprised that its tail could go through the gaps of the bars. Normally it wasn't able to do that. The barrier must have lifted . . . Was now it's opportunity for freedom?

Renee heard the loud cracking and shifting of rocks, echoing around the cavern and looked up to see the small light glow brighter from the gaps. She covered her eyes with her arm, trying to block the light until a dimmed, letting her see glowing small white branch with two little leaves. No way...the voice who called before...it was...The transformed teen watched as it's arcane energy was being sucked in by the dark blight from the dragon's egg. That's when she heard the voice again, her wings perked up from her surprise. 'It really was that branch...' She thought, standing up again to try pulling.

Before she could even walk towards it, Renee felt that heavy pressure weight her down, making it hard to breathe. She looked up at the egg only to see a huge orange eye glaring down at her, her wings folded tightly on her head from her fear at staring back. Then it got worse as she felt something very wrong behind her. "Don't look at it and you'll be fine..." The teen mumbled in a scared tone, forcing herself to walk, and to be calm as possible.

Obviously there's something really bad behind her and if she's going to make it out alive with this branch, she's going to have to pull. As quickly as she can, the teen stumbled closer to the branch and grabbed it, pulling as hard as she can in her weakened state. She looked behind her as she pulled once more, eyes widening as the tall figures grow closer to her-! She couldn't see much details, only that they came from the darkness and that's really scary and- Oh Merlin, they're getting closer! The branch is not even moving out!

"Come on! Pull, me, pull!" The winged teen pulled hard one more time, her wings flapping wildly as she noticed the dark shadows are within her space. One of them reached out to grab her as she finally felt the branch moving out! "Yes!" Renee kept pulling, screaming as the shadow touched her shoulder and finally getting the branch out. Her screams echoed within the cavern.

The witch quickly shut her eyes an pursed her lips as she felt the cool water splash against her face, soaking her clothes. "Stans Umbra" she growled as her shadow creature appeared infront of the boys, holding them back as she ran after them. A few circus performers attempting to hold her back but did not succeed. "You two come here if you know what's good for you!" She yelled, finally close enough to attempt to grab them.

Of course she would make them pay, but for now she was just happy she had found them, not having to worry any more. "I won't cast any sickening curses on you yet... as long as you two just stop running." The pink haired witch was by no means athletic, so for her to run as fast as she did took a toll on the poor witch.

"RENEE!" yelled James. "Where are you?! I'm coming!" his sister's scream sent a wave of horror over him and he goaded Frey to gallop faster. Black twigs and branches whipped his face as the silver-white stag thundered down the pathway.

Meanwhile, in the chamber, the little glowing plant Renee pulled immediately wrapped its bright roots around her finger like a ring at the same time the first shadow monster screamed a deathly wail at her and raised its wicked claws to strike her down. The little plant shone like a sun in the darkness and for some reason electricity sparked from the jewels on Renee's hands and head and glowed with the same light as the plant. @Katsuya, your character feels powerful.

Ten more shadow monsters were emerging, they all looked like tall slouching faceless scare crows, their limbs shape shifting into weapons.

- Dice Battle Tutorial -

In battles started by the GM, the GM controls enemies and whether or not your attacks and defensive maneuvers work or not through dice rolling. It is helpful if you specify your attacks and write what you're attempting to do. For example:

"James commanded Frey to charge and the great stag lowered its head baring its antlers to skewer and toss away his foes to clear a path to his sister. The stag was heavy enough to trample the shadow monsters smaller than him underfoot."

Or

"James dove behind a ruined statue for cover to evade the shadow spikes another monster was hurling at him."

The first action was an offensive maneuver, the second one was defensive. Imagine you're in an RPG game and we are taking turns attacking. There is a movement, and action phase. The enemy will have its turn too.

@Katsuya, @Aio, if you guys have any questions, feel free to ask me in the OOC thread.

"Paroosia City Square, Travelling Circus"

"Let us go! Let us go!" said Sen and Seth struggling against the shadowman, but failing. They flinched under Winnefred's gaze. "Wahhh, don't curse us! We won't run!" they said together and raised their hands to shield themselves as if they thought the Witch of Umbra may change her mind.

BOOM

There was a bursting of wood and metal behind Winnifred as the bear-sized chimaera came quickly charging out of its cage and straight at the twins, roaring fiercely with its fangs bared. People screamed. It leapt over Winnifred in one great bound and bowled the shadow man over sending Sen and Seth tumbling on to the ground.

"WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH! WIIIINIIIEEEE, HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLP!!" cried the twins in terror as the chimaera picked them up by the back of their clothes with its teeth and bounded away and into town. It was odd that the beast was careful not to hurt them, there was definitely no blood on the twin's backs . . . it seems as though the chimaera had kidnapped the twins to protect them.

@Aio

Winnifred Notch

Winnifred whole body froze when the shadow of the chimaera passed above her. That's when she felt her grip on her shadow man diminish as she watched the chimaera slam into it. "You have to be kidding me." She mumbled as she watched the twins scooped up by animal. "Corvus." She muttered, transforming herself back into a black raven as she flew after the animal.

Flapping her wings she chased after the twins, cawing when they were in her sight. "Stans Umbra" she thought as her shadow figure appeared in front of the Chimeara with a sickening roar. It was obvious that Winnifred was not in the best mood. After being soaked with fish water, she was also chasing twins that she wasn't particularly fond of at the moment.

The shadow nashed its teeth at the animal, getting on all fours as it lowered its head, resembling something like a wild animal. Winnifred landed on one of the stalls, squawking as she flapped her wings. She was going to end this. With one more squawk before the shadow figure started to charge towards the side of the chimaera. Hopping to hit it hard enough to where it would drop the boys, giving them Tim to escape. Although her magic was more defensive than offensive she hoped that the hit would be enough.

The chimaera tripped, dropping the twins unceremoniously on the ground, the two immediately scrambled up and ran to hide behind Winnifred as the great beast shook itself out of its daze, snarling ferociously at the shadow man, it's  snake tail hissing venomously and coiled ready to strike. The lion and goat heads gave the twins a curious look as though wondering why they were hiding behind the Witch of Umbra.

It seemed to understand that she was not a threat to the twins after all and with a huff, sprang away and continued its retreat to freedom, causing people to scream in panic as it rushed passed by them.

Sen and Seth dropped to their knees in relief. "WINNIE! THANK YOU SO MUCH!" they cried, hugging her, not minding she was wet and smelled like fish. "We take back calling you a bloody troll!"

The barrier failed to materialize fast enough and the claw struck Renee, shredding a wing and sending the girl flying into the air and crashing into the dark purple surface of the dragon egg. The shadow man cackled maliciously and rushed forth claw ready to rip, then it missed its slash as the small white plant glowed bright again and a giant tree root suddenly came between them and shielded Renee.

The other shadow monsters hissed and leapt on the root, their claws hacking and squirming through the gaps trying to reach for the teen, extending like taffy. Your character, @Katsuya heard something akin to the ancient weaving of a spell from behind. If your character looks up, she'll notice that the chant was coming from the dragon inside the egg and that one of its gargantuan fierce orange eye was glowing with a bright purple spell circle in front of it.

"DON'T TOUCH MY SISTER!!" bellowed James.

Frey came thundering down the path, antlers down. The stag charged, catching two shadow creatures by the horns and tossing them aside. The two shadows dissipated into nothingness. There are now eight foes left.

3-10 Renee blocks attack, 7-10 shadow monster hits. First roll is for Renee's success, second is for the shadow monster's success.

- Dice Battle Tutorial -

Renee has been struck. When your character or their summons are struck by an opponent, your character acquires a negative health status, which can be: "Bleeding, Frostbite, Burned, Poisoned, Cursed, Sick, Exhausted, No Manna/ Silenced (cannot cast spells), Hungry, or Thirsty." In Renee's case it is, "Bleeding I".

Why is there a: "I"? This is because negative health statuses stack. "Bleeding I" can turn into "Bleeding IV" if you get more wounds. When your character reaches "4" stacks, your character is "INCAPACITATED". This means your character has been knocked out and cannot enter or affect a battle or event until it's over or until your character is cured and has rested. BUT you can continue fighting with a clean slate IF you erase one spell, trick, or stunt in your character's CS FOREVER, a useful thing to revive your character when fighting a Boss and your character went down.

ex.

Renee Health: Poisoned II + Injured II = INCAPACITATED

Winnifred Health: Injured I + Exhausted I + Sick I + Thirsty I = INCAPACITATED

It's not just battles that can hurt a character, hunger, thirst, weather, and strenuous activities that uses up a lot of energy can affect a character too.

Healing potions or medicine can cure one level of "Bleeding, Burned, Poison, etc." at a time just like in RPG games, while sleeping for 8 hours cures one level of "Exhausted". Eating or drinking water cures one level of "Thirsy".

The gameplay for "Inventory" will be introduced later in the RP. This means the number of potions, food, water, and gear one can carry will be limited, but we will get to that later.

@Katsuya , @Aio

Renee slid down, feeling breathless as she sat on the ground. She hissed when her wounded wings moved, the ringing in her ears deafening. All she can hear is muffled sounds and the ringing. After a few moments, the transformed teen blinked away the bright white stars to see huge roots in front of her, being hacked apart by those scarecrow figures, and oozing through the gaps. Then she heard a chanting from...behind. Renee looked up slowly, her own pair of orange eyes widened as she watched the visible baby dragon's eyes glow with a bright purple spell circle, chanting in an unknown language. In her dazed head, she wondered if the baby dragon was the reason behind those creatures...

Then, in her relief and fear for his safety, she heard James' bellow, with Frey's hooves quickly moving. Renee stumbled as she stands up against the egg, warning her brother. "James! The-these creatures! I think it's the thing inside the egg that's controlling them!" With James there, the white-haired teen felt a bit more encouraged and got ready to use her Solar Blossom. Pulling back one of her arms with her gems glowing, she created an arrow, aiming towards the creatures that are oozing through the gaps. Renee hopes she can get rid of most of them, maybe even blind the thing inside the egg temporarily with how bright her solar beam arrow is. With that thought, she lets her arrow fly to hit the oozing creatures.

A large white ballista tore through the root and blasted the shadow creatures away.

"Whoa!" yelled James as Frey suddenly swerved right to avoid the arrow that broke one antler off. There were no shadow monsters left, and the baby dragon above seemed to have closed its eyes. "Renee?" said James, surprised to find her in the root and more surprised to find out that the almighty ballista came from her.

He dismounted; Frey was nudging his broken antler sadly. James went over his sister looking worried, checking her carefully for wounds. "Are you alright? Did they hurt you --- whoa . . . " he was shocked when he saw her shredded wing.

He searched his robes for something, ignoring the little white plant around Renee's finger that was still glowing, albeit not as bright now. The little plant sighed, "Thank you for pulling me out, little one. You saved me . . . I'm going to sleep for a while now . . . we must get out before the nidhogg regains its strength." said the plant in her mind. James seemed to not have heard anything.

Her older brother pulled out a bottle filled with red liquid that smelled like mint. It was one of his usual healing potions, and he offered it to his sister to help with the wound.

With the destruction left behind, Renee smiled ruefully. She didn't mean to destroy the root or have one of Frey's antlers broken off, but at least they are safe...for now. "Frey, I-I'm sorry about your antler..." She mumbled tiredly. Relaxing her stance as James walked over to check on her wounds, the teen tried to move her wings only to flinch again. "Y-yea...one of those...creatures got me, but someone else helped! and...and..." She trailed off, hearing the little plant talk and noticed that her brother didn't react to it's voice, so she won't say anything about it yet.

'Y-you're welcome. Thank you for helping me...' She thought back to the plant and took the potion that James offered, drinking it quickly. It tasted like mint and calmed her down a bit since it reminded Renee of her favorite tea. She can feel her wing feeling better than before. Then she grabbed his sleeve and tugs on it. "We need to leave before that ...the Nidhogg wakes up again." She tugs his sleeve again, a bit more urgent now. "Come on. We need to go. Now!" Her wings trembled nervously. The white-haired teen really wanted to leave the underground parts of the Manna tree.

Renee got on the stag with her brother's help, patting on Frey's neck and shoulder apologetically. As they got out of the tree and into the arms of their mother, Renee couldn't help but start tearing up. It's all her fault that her brother's stag got hurt and with Rhea and the twins missing...She didn't know what to do.

As her father strode inside the tree, the white-haired teen yelled out a warning. "Be careful, Dad! It can summon shadow creatures!" Her wings twitched and fluttered nervously, feeling the adrenaline rush finally crashing down, her body trembling from it.

Tiredly, Renee rambled, letting Sophie know what happened to the twins' to her hearing a voice and stuttered when she mentioned the baby dragon. "...so the voice I heard, it came from this ring. It's a root from the Manna tree, I-I think. And the d-d-dragon was absorbing it's energy. It helped me."

Renee looked at James. "It's the reason why I could pull off that strong attack from before, James." Then she looked down frowning sadly, covering the root ring with her hand. "I-I'm sorry...I should've waited for James or Winne first or get you and Dad, Ma." The teen apologized, her wings wilted from her guilt.

When Winnifred saw the the chimaera ready to strike she stiffened. By no means was she prepared to fight. While she was confident in her magic she knew it would be no match compared to the beast.Though when she saw the beast was backing down she let out a sigh of relief. Watching it run off as she felt the twins behind her. The impact of her shadow man hitting the beast had finally gotten to her after she ran out of adrenaline. The shadow disappearing as Winnifred slumped over.

She turned to look at the twins her eyes narrowing as she growled. "If I ever have to save your sorry butts again I'll make sure to place a strong curse on you two."  The smell of fish had finally gotten to her, causing her eyes to water and for her to breath through her mouth. "We are going to the manna tree and then we are going home. While I may have no authority over you I will make sure something happens...perhaps no experiments....or maybe mandatory study hours." Grabbing the twin's wrist she trudged up the path to the tree, gaining disgusted looks from vendors due to her smell. She was definitely going to make them pay for this.

"No, you did well, darling, I'm just so happy you're alive." said Sophie soothingly and hugging Renee again.

"You fought good." said James, ruffling his sister's hair briefly. Normally, James doesn't show affection to his sisters like this because they're annoying, it's weird, and makes him feel like he's touching something slimy. But after almost losing Renee, those things just suddenly didn't matter.

He doesn't even say "I love you." to his siblings, never to his dad either because it just feels too sappy and unmanly to say it. The only person he says that to is his mom. Right now he just wanted to make his sister feel better, but he was having difficulty expressing care and just ended up ruffling her hair silently for a long time without words and looking away stiffly.

Sophie looked at the ring that wasn't glowing anymore and looked like an ordinary ring that any child could make with some plants. "This simple ring helped you?" she touched it and attempted to pull it, but the ring was stuck.

'Please tell her not to remove me, I don't feel safe and I want to stay with you.' said the plant in Renee's mind. The little plant sounded sad, 'The darkness will be after you now. Thank you for saving my life, in return I will not let anyone harm you until I am replanted. I have many names, but you can call me, "Manna", since all the humans that come visit me call me "Manna Tree", although I do like the name "Sunny" better. I love the sun."

@Katsuya

James repeated what his sister said to his father through his ghost owl. Howl didn't return outside and instead told his family through James to go back to the inn where they were staying the night, and asked his eldest son to report to the city governor about the dragon egg.

James was riding Frey down the steps when he passed by Winnie and the twins.

"Winnie, Sen, Seth, something happened to Renee." he said grimly. He wasn't even angry at the twins for going off. "Dad doesn't want me to talk about it here because he doesn't want to start a panic, but they're back over there and can tell you everything."

@Aio

Later that day, James would return and tell his family that a spellblade general of the king who happened to be visiting the city will come visit their family later to talk about the dragon egg, the plant, and their missing sister Rhea who was still lost.

(OOC: Feel free to not go to the inn yet and do what you like, guys, I'll move the story forward tomorrow.)

-Renee Pendragon-

Renee hugged back, feeling a bit better from her mom's soothing hug, sighing in relief. She twitched when James' ruffled her hair, eyes widened in surprise. Her older brother never showed his affection like this before...He must have been scared to be this affectionate towards her. Wanting to show that she is better, the white-haired teen smiled at James and leaned into his hand. "...Thanks, James..." She quietly mumbled, her wings fluttered happily.

When her mother tried to take the ring off, Renee heard the voice again, and sighed. "Yes, mother...please don't take the ring off...Sunny said he doesn't feel safe yet." She explained. "He says he wants to stay with me..." The white-haired teen wasn't going to say what Sunny said about the darkness following her yet...not until she knows for sure as to what is going on...She sighed again, feeling tired from everything's that happened today. 'It's no problem, Sunny. My name is Renee Pendragon. I'm sure you're safe now...' She giggled softly, not worried about seeming odd as she tends to giggle at the most random of times. 'I like the sun too...It's very warm...' She thought back to Sunny, wondering if he can hear her thoughts as she touched the ring again.

With James going to the city's governor, Renee gathered her stuff and was about to follow her mother to the inn they were staying at until she saw Winnifred with the twins. "Winne...Sen, Seth, You're okay..." Dropping her items, the teen stumbled to the twins and hugged them tight, not seeing their worried expressions to each other. She then looked over to Winne and smiled tiredly. "Thank you Winne...for finding the twins." With that, the white-haired teen hugged the Umbre witch too, her wings fluttering a bit before leaning back and frowned, confused and curious. "Um...why do you smell like fish?"

- Inn -

The twins just grinned sheepishly at Renee, but then were like, "WHOA YOU'RE BLEEDING!" when they saw her injured wing. The healing potion may have mended it, but it still had scars as though the wound was several days old.

"Alright, who hurt our sister?" they said together, punching their palms in exact mirror movements. "Nobody gets to mess with her except us!"

Their mother explained what happened after they arrived in the inn and had already settled down. The twins were sitting on their beds and just went, "Wow . . ." after the story had been told.

"So this little plant made your solar blossom go all god like?!" asked Seth.

"Renee, can we borrow it?!" asked Sen excitedly.

It was already night time and some of the family were eating dinner --- the twins had brought their food up to their sister's room and were wolfing them down while listening to the story and asking Renee to recall her adventure. All the wizards in the city had been secretly called to investigate the dragon egg, the discovery of which has shocked everyone. Howl was there too and also some of his household who had experience in these types of magic.

Downstairs there was the familiar clip, clop of Frey's hooves. A moment later there was a knock on the door and James entered with a visitor who looked like a knight. The visitor was a tall, battle-worn warrior who carried a broadsword. He wore heavy armor emblazoned with the crest of the King. The brooch that held his cloak was the symbol of the Spellblades, royal knights who guarded the castle. They were the best of the best, and this gentleman had the air of a commander.

"Everyone, this is General Leo, General, this is my sister Renee. She's the one who found the dragon egg." said James closing the door behind him. The twins scooted over to the side. Sen and Seth didn't like authority, but even they knew this was someone not to mess with.

General Leo strode inside with a warm smile at Renee and introduced himself courteously to Mrs. Pendragon first before kneeling down and then speaking with her. "Hello, Renee, how are you feeling?"

Winnifred Notch

Winnifred smiled slightly at Renee as she commented on her smell. "Long story." She muttered through gritted teeth as she looked over to the twins before looking back at James who left as soon as the got there. Everyone seemed was slightly frazzled, and listening to Mrs. Pendragon explain to the twins she understood why exactly that was.

Heading home Winnifred rushed to the shower as soon as she got inside. Attempting to try one of the potions she created to turn her hair back to her orgininal color though sadly it failed and her hair went from slightly dull pink to a vibrant pink causing her to give up for today and get out of the shower.

She heard voices down stairs so she got dressed quickly and headed downstairs as she shook her damp hair as she headed down, the smell of fish lingering slightly. No matter how many times she shampooed her hair it never seemed to go. She saw the man first seeing he was the only person she's never seen in the house before. Walking over to the others she stayed behind slightly not wishing to get in the way.

-Renee Pendragon-

Renee grinned awkwardly when Winne glared at the twins, having an idea who might cause the smell on her. "Oh...um, I'll make a herbal bomb bath for you, if you like?" The white-haired teen offered, feeling apologetic and grateful at Winnifred's actions.

She was amused and touched when her little brothers wanted to defend her too, like James did. Her wings fluttered at the thought and made her flinch from the twinge of pain.

When the twins came up to her room and asking her to re-tell the story (which she did with as much detail as she can), the white-haired teen shook her head, amused by their antics. "Yes, he's the reason why I could have done that attack, Seth. No, you can't borrow Sunny, Sen. He doesn't want to move."  'I rather the darkness chase me than my family...' She thought grimly. It's better that way too; The twins will somehow cause more havoc with the darkness following them, that she is sure.

Renee was sitting on the hexagonal window sill couch, sketching out the shadowy scarecrow creatures for the twins to see when she heard Frey's hooves coming from downstairs. She looked up when her door opened, smiling a bit at James before she noticed the other man and frowned seriously. Based on the heavy armor and the brooch holding his cloak, this guy is very important. The fact that Sen and Seth moved to the side and James' introduction proved her guess right. 'A Spellblade knight...woah....'

The white-haired teen couldn't help but sit up straight with his presence, not wanting to seem rude and offend him somehow. Her trembling wings folded onto her head when General Leo came close to her after greeting her mother, feeling nervous despite his warm smile. Normally, she would hug and talk to him casually like he was any other citizen; But after the whole incident with the dragon's egg, she's tired and a bit wary to anything and anybody new. Renee answered quietly, twiddling on her pencil. "H-hello General...I'm doing better now, thanks to my family and my friend, Sunny..." She mumbled, looking at him timidly, and hugging her sketchbook tightly to her chest. "A-and you, Sir? How are you?"

- Gen. Leo -

" Inn "

" Not so well to tell you the truth." he said gruffly, sitting cross-legged on the floor. "We can't destroy the Nidhogg egg and we don't know how it got there."

When Leo saw that some of them looked puzzled at the name Nidhogg he added, "According to ancient Draconian lore, Nidhoggs are a rare dark dragon breed that eat manna trees and lay their eggs inside the roots. That's how they grow to be so powerful and big.

"They almost destroyed the world once. Manna trees act like little hearts that regulate the flow of magic in the land. They are all interconnected all over the world and the death of one distrupts the flow. Paroosia's manna tree is dying now, if it grows worse monsters will be able to come into the city.

" That's why I'm here to ask you if you are willing to come with me. I heard from your brother that the ring you wear talks to you and I believe it's the living heart of the tree. We'll be working to remove it from your finger without hurting you, Renee, and some of your family members can come with you too if that makes you feel better."

'We can't stay here.' said the little plant in Renee's mind. 'We have to go to the Storm Wall and find Aged Author.'

-Renee Pendragon-

Renee covered the ring with her other hand, almost as if she was shielding it from hearing the lore. 'So that's why the dragon's egg was absorbing Sunny's energy! Holy Merlin.' She thought before tensing up from Leo's question. The white-haired teen was about to say something when she then heard Sunny's voice and looked down at the floor, thinking. There's a choice: Go with Leo and let him take Sunny, possibly to replant him and not have the world be destroyed...or Listen to Sunny and go to the Storm Wall and find the Aged Author...This...is not a hard choice, considering that trees lived longer than humans anyways, and her parents did tell her before to listen to their elders...'I have to stop being around the twins so much.' The teen thought playfully before sighing.

Taking a breathe to restore some courage, Renee looked at the general's eyes so he knows she's serious. "Sorry General, I can't go with you...If Sunny's the heart of the Manna tree, then that means he knows better...and I have to help him." Then she grinned ruefully. "I-I can't stay here...Sunny told me to go to the Storm Wall...and find the Aged Author." Her wings fluttered nervously despite her bravado, twitching from her wound. "Again, I'm sorry General, but I'm going to have to decline your help of removing Sunny. I rather that he removes himself when he wants to and I'm not about to force him nor do I want to..."

The teen then looked at her family for a moment, wondering if she should reveal that she'll be in danger soon from the darkness...and decided to say it. Better now than when it happens at an important matter. "Besides...I don't think it's wise either...considering that the darkness is going to be after me now for even helping Sunny...and if I am assuming correctly, that darkness will go after Paroosia for the same reason. No, I think...believe that something bigger is going to happen soon and it is better that I listen to Sunny's request." It's a huge assumption, Renee realized but she wasn't kidding when she said that either. It might be her gut telling her these theories, but that's how she studies her herbs: She tests them, 'listening' to what they do and then make something out of it, including the dangerous stuff. With Sunny telling her these things, it makes her come up with theories in her brain and she wants to find clues if it's true or not...and she knows it is true, considering some shadow scarecrow thing took a swipe at her wing. If that's the darkness helping the baby dragon...then she can't help but shudder at the thought of a lot of people being hurt and worse from the darkness.

Renee frowned determinedly, looking back at the General as her heart pounded hard against her rib cage. This is one of the most scariest things she has ever done...but she will face it.

Winnifred Notch

Winnifred looked from the general to Renee and then back to the general. She could not lie, she always seemed to have a problem with authority figures and so to have this man in the Pendragon's home made her a little uneasy. Of course what he could be saying could perhaps be for the better but still she had her reasons. By the time the talking had taken a turn Winnifreds hair had dried into waves as she listened to Renee.

What the girl was saying was very courageous, yet to stand up to a man such as the one before her she could very well be an idiot. She wasn't going to take any chances, mostly fearing for Renee's safety so she made her way behind the girl as she pursed her lips and looked that the man. Her demeanor was far different from the teens, it was almost dark and slightly menacing. If the man dared touch her she would end him, or just kick him out, which ever came first.

For or as long as she could remember the Pendragon children had never been alone, always having each other. For Winnifred it was different. At a young age she had been left to fend for herself after the passing of her teacher. Knowing what it feels like to be alone she never wished it on someone else. She would be with Renee till told she was no longer needed. Even though they were not family they were the closet think Winnifred had.
