Lore:

The world is as normal as it is now. It is 2020, and everything in life is prodding along as it should. However, unknown to the public eye, there are another race of people out there that share their genetics with felines. Cats. Domestic, wild, big or small, there are humanoid versions of them, and they are hidden. Hidden from the public's attention and knowledge. The cats are often taken from their environment forcefully by auctioneers and sold off to the highest bidder, to only inevitably end up in the government's care (these tend to be big-cats). If the cats come in with no name, they are provided a name by the government. If the cats are unable to talk they are taught to by the government how to behave, and raised to a certain age until the government picks specific individuals of a population most likely to provide the animals their proper care and least likely to speak of their existence. They are released to a 'handler', as they are called, at 17 or above. It is the handler's job to make sure the cats stay healthy, happy and cared for, whilst avoiding exposing anyone unaware of the cats to them, thus protecting them from the public.

Handlers are chosen at random from a list of people that have inadvertently reached the qualifications of someone that the government would deem 'worthy' throughout their lives. When they become a handler, the government provides them with a large house with different specialised rooms in it for different species, provides them income to support the cats (with any other income for luxuries either depending on the person or provided by the government if the handler is taking care of hard-to-handle cats, such as tigers or lions).

Lore of the household:

Atsushi started caring for cats since he was chosen to be a handler at 18. Currently the only cats he's taken care of have been your characters. Despite such a daunting task for one to take on, to prevent the cats' secrets from being exposed, would presumably inspire Atsu to impose strict rules on the cats. He doesn't do such a thing, but rather has some golden rules cats must follow-- their punishments for disobeying them, he doesn't know. What he IS aware of though is the fact that he is instructed to call up the government if one of the cats become disobedient (an instruction he won't follow, but will state he will do so to try to intimidate any trouble-makers into behaving).

Disregarding the addition of specialised rooms in the house the cats and handler have been introduced to, it is normal. Large, but normal. The interior of the house-hold is well-kept and polished (when nobody is tracking fur around it), with the occasional toy somewhere down the hallway dropped by some cat. The cat's rooms have a regular doorway leading into a small hall that has different buttons and settings in it (for domestics, temperature. For lions, temperature and humidity. For tigers, temperature, humidity and rainfall. For Snow leopards, temperature and snowfall). The end of the hall has a door designed to handle different the weather conditions of the cat's personal rooms.

Cats are free to roam around the house and do as they please (but are expected to listen to the handler), with a few limitations. Some of the limitations include leaving the property and going out in public without handler permission (or being properly dressed up), purposely trashing the main household, and intruding into other cat's rooms without permission. Any other rules must be imposed and enforced by the handler. Attacking the handler is the ultimate offence, often leading to harsh punishment by the government if the handler finds it suitable to inform them of the incident. This is a rule Atsushi is unlikely to enforce, unless the attack is particularly dangerous.

Whenever Atsushi runs out of food, he gets into his car to drive off and buy more for the cats. Initially he never ended up bringing the cats with him, but after arriving home to find his room trashed or finding stowaways in his car trunk (stowaways that didn't properly hide their cat features), he has found himself bringing the cats with him to buy food (to his dismay). Cats are dressed up appropriately and wear clothing to hide their cat-like features so they appear to be normal people. They are expected to act normally and not harass or act like children out in public, but depending on the cat, his wish may or may not be granted (as majority of cats, if not all of them, are unaware of how to interact with the outside world, and what would be deemed 'normal' and 'abnormal' behaviour for a person).

House description:

House of Cats (And a Human) is set in a large modern house stationed near the city. The house itself is in the middle of a large plot of land surrounded by trees for privacy, meant for the cats to have a larger feeling of spaciousness and granting them the ability to go outside and not run the risk of being spotted. The house itself provides the living space for a human, large cats such as lions, tigers, snow leopards and more, and domestic cats. The different species of cats all have different rooms designed for them and their natural wants and needs. Temperatures vary in each room and sometimes they are even home to different plants that the cat’s species are used to being around, just to add another layer of authenticity to that room. The cat’s different rooms are described as below (there will be visual reference of each room soon, I just need to fix up on the main house design). All enclosures have a natural means of resting or a bed as an alternative tucked away. Additionally, all rooms have a HD television located inside of them, with the design of the remotes varying so remotes are not confused with other remotes. The cats living in these rooms are free to move things around that are not attached to the floor.

Domestic cat room:
The domestic cat room is large and open (and given the amount of people with domestic cats, the room is now the largest in the house), and is full of different pastel colours and cat toys (such as little electronic mice, bell-balls, balls of yarn, plush birds dangling from the ceiling, etc). The temperature in the room is the same as the rest of the house, though is customisable for the domestic cats. Scratching posts are laid around the room, and different facilities that take up the room (climbing posts and resting spaces held above ground by soft platforms, etc). Almost all of the beds are not touching the ground but are rather held on these posts. Everything in the room is soft and comfortable to lounge on, and virtually nothing inside the room could hurt the cats. There are beanbags strewn about and a large HD television and fish-shaped remote used to watch television from it. The domestic cats have cat beds or regular human beds, depending on their preferences. The domestic cat room is located on the second floor of the house.

Lion room:
The lion room is a very large and open space designed for lions. Currently it only holds one. The room is more hot and dry to mimic the savannah's atmosphere to comfort its inhabitants. All of the walls are painted to be that of the wide open savannah, with animals such as zebras and giraffes painted on them. The room's main colours are yellow and blue. There are large fake rocks inside the enclosure for the lions to rest on that could be used to warm up the lion. Rough, rugged ropes used to sharpen claws are in the room. Some parts of the room has fake dried grass near the rocks, meant to provide the lion the ability to hide and feel comfortable in. A large, fake animal skeleton lies in the middle of the room, with a few real bones near it for mauling. The parts of the room that does not have large grass emerging from it has regular fake grass on it that is soft, and appears dry and dead like regular savannah grass. There are large savannah trees in the enclosure, with some of them having the previously mentioned rope tied to it to toy with. Various Lion King toys are located near the more human resting quarters of the room. A HD television is located near the back of the room, and the remote is shaped as a bone. The lions either have the option of sleeping on the rocks or on a regular bed, which is where the toys are located. The lion room is located on the first floor of the house.

Tiger room:
The tiger room is the second largest room of the house. It is the only indoors room to have a large pool meant for swimming in it, with various smaller pools surrounding the area. The temperature inside the room is warm and humid to mimic the tropical rainforests and humid climate they are used to. The colour of the room is mainly dark green. Much like the lion room, the tiger room has large rocks in it to rest on. The surrounding walls are painted to resemble the trees of the jungle. Some rocks can be used as pillars to climb on and jump from one to another. There are various rainforest trees planted in the room. The roof of the room is quite high, which adds a more spacious feel to it. Like the lion room, there are occasionally ropes tied on trees to hone claws on and toy with. Sometimes meat is hung from these ropes from high-hanging ropes in order to gauge tiger fitness. Some of the ropes hang from the roof and are designed to swing from and climb on. The tiger enclosure also has lush grass occasionally lacing the enclosure. Green fake grass covers the floor that isn't covered by the large rocks in the room, and it is difficult to distinguish what grass is real and what is fake, given the quality of the fake grass. The HD TVof the room is stationed on a wall near one of the higher standing rocks, and its remote is shaped like a jungle leaf. The bed of the enclosure is either the rocks or a large, soft king sized bed.

This room has a special addition where it has a controllable system of valves on the roof that can be turned on or off by the inhabitants to create rain.

Snow leopard room:
The snow leopard room is about the size of the domestic cat room. It is located on the first floor of the building, and is one of the three big-cat enclosures located on the ground floor. The temperature inside of the room is cold (about 10 degrees), though unlike the other rooms, has a smaller room attached to it that is very cold. This additional room reaches temperatures of -20 degrees . This room is coated in snow and ice, and has a light that can be turned either on or off, and is the natural sleeping room of the snow leopard (with the bed being a soft pile of snow). The main building of the snow leopard room has smaller rocks on it similar to the lion and tiger room. The walls are painted to mimic the mountains of the snowy tundra, and the rocks are either white or have been painted to look like they have snow resting upon them. The floor has a soft covering on it that is white, likely a kind of soft faux fur that replicates the feeling of snow (and is resistant to it). There are white bean-bags in the room accompanied by soft pillows of snowmen. The HD TV is located near the corner of the room where the soft pillows and beanbags are, and the remote is the shape of a snowman.

This room has a special addition where it has a system similar to the tiger room in which the inhabitants can toggle on or off to create snow. Additionally, the snow leopard room temperature in the main room can be changed between 10 degrees to -10 degrees. The spare room is designed to withstand colder temperatures.

Human room:
Literally just a bedroom. It is a slightly larger than average bedroom with a queen sized bed in the middle of it. The temperature in the room is often room temperature. There are many plants that rest inside either round glass pots or pots hanging from the ceiling. The majority of the plants inside are pitcher plants or venus flytraps. There aren't many luxuries in the room. There are two oak tables inside with chairs. The floor is made of wood and has a single fluffy rug near the entrance of the door. A large window that acts as a wall sitting behind the queen sized bed can be slid open, and leads to a balcony. It watches over the entire yard and pool. Atushi's room is located on the second floor.

Outside:
The outside of the house is wide, open and clear. There are large pine trees that surround the house in order to protect it from any unwanted attention, and they do a perfect job at concealing the cats that happen to be in the open. Additionally, there is a large rectangular pool outside of the house that lights up at night, which is chlorinated and safe to swim in, if any inhabitants of the house start feeling like a dip. The surrounding of the house outdoors have little spotlights that, like the pool, light up in the night and help outline the structure of the house.
