What'd be a good starting game in the Shin Megami Tensei franchise?

I played the first game Persona before it was ported to the PlayStation portable. It was on ps1, they called it at the time revelations persona. I enjoyed it. I never finished it though.

For the Mainstream SMT games start off on Nocturne or IV.

I'm a bigger fan of Persona (it's a little bit less sacrilegious lol), but I've been playing Devil Survivor. I hit a brick wall with Bellum.

Persona is a spin off from the Shin Megami Tensei series.

Hardcore SMT fans hate Persona 3, 4 and 5 for multiple reasons.

That's why the guy said play a real Shin Megami Tensei game.
