Caught in a storm

Steelrock. A city of invention and wonder. The discovery of Elysian Dust has propelled Steelrock to new heights in the recent decades. Steam Technology and Mechanical Machinery have completely taken over the city. This surge of prosperity hasn't been nice to everyone. While giant tycoons have risen out of nothing, the poor and unfortunate have failed to adapt to the changes that have occurred in the city. The Queen of Albion and the Commonwealth rule over Steelrock and the rest of Albion. Not everyone is quite fond of the Police Force. While the rich host their own parties and gatherings the poor struggle to scrape together brass and resort to crime. The Commonwealth. An Agency of Superlative Agents that decide most of the changes and pass laws that are enforced within Steelrock. These agents are those with special abilities or talents and many of them are quite paid off by criminal organizations or large tycoons. The Commonwealth acts as both the local government and a secret agency. They answer only to the queen.

Elysian Dust is the driving force of all technology in Albion. It can be used to make flying blimps or other flying machines due to it's affinity with gravity altering technology. It also has general uses throughout all kinds of technology. Mechanical Augmentation has become possible leading some to replace parts of themselves with machinery and also mechs can be created allowing for increased capabilities that wouldn't be possible with just a human sized body.

Recent breakthroughs in science have discovered that traces of Elysian Dust can be found within a fraction of the population. Such people can use biological powers by burning up different gases. Such people must carry cannisters of gas on them in order to perform such super powers. Cannisters can be quite heavy depending on how much one wants to take advantage of their genetic luck. Every person born with traces of Elysian Dust can only burn a single type of gas. The ability to use one's power is generally limited to general effects rather than techniques although one can carry gadgets to combine with their specific power at the cost of carrying even more weight. A Chloromancer might carry grenades while a Hydromancer might carry a water gun. One can only use their power at the cost of burning up their cannister's gas, at which point the user would become powerless.

Locations:
Umbraton: is the northern province of Steelrock and home to the largest variety of shops and businesses. It's noticeable by it's downtown areas filled with shops and entertainment as well as it's more city areas that feature large amounts of giant buildings. It's where the largest portion of the population of Steelrock live. Most of Umbraton can be navigated relatively easy thanks to public train systems and flying ship services.

Deepbarrow: is largely home to the wealthy. It's an older province of Steelrock one that predates the rise of steam technology which explains it's older architecture. It is where many look for excitement as most gatherings occur here and events hosted by the rich nobles are constantly thrown. It's also where the commonwealth and the queen's mansion grounds are located and the decisions made by the commonwealth take place in the Superlative House, a large section of buildings interconnected. One might be wise to be careful in deepbarrow at night.

Grungefall: The southern province. A dirty and rusty place. Some refer to as the true undercity of Steelrock. It's polluted and it's citizens live struggling to get their hands on bloodies or any sort of resource. It's littered to the brim with crime and corruption. The province delves deeper and deeper into the southern caverns where Elysian dust is produced through chemical processes and alchemy. It's the home to the poor.

The City hangs on a single thread. The assassination of the queen herself has thrown Albion into chaos. Most of the members of the commonwealth including the queen have been murdered leaving the remaining agents of the commonwealth struggling to uncover the truth with little resources and a heavily damaged headquarters.
Steelrock is known for it's villains and their dramatics. The murder of the queen must be unveiled. Could it be the Children of The Lamp who constantly terrorize Steelrock are responsible. Perhaps the criminal underworld of Grungefall has attempted to revolt a second time. Time is running out before the entire city falls apart. The truth must be revealed or Steelrock will fall.

It's time to make a city that feels alive. You can play as a member of the remaining commonwealth, a member of the Children of the Lamp or a citizen from one of the three provinces of Steelrock. You can be anything from a mechanist, a noble, a street rat. You think of it, you name it.

This RP will be more Gotham-like than having a constant plot although different factions and groups within the RP will have their stories. It's going to be very Gotham-like where it focuses on the negative actions of everyone that turns the city from bad to worse. Explore the different areas and create your own drama within Steelrock. Events will be introduced regularly, many of which may happen at the same exact time meaning you need to choose what happens in Steelrock is worth your character's time.

Multiple Characters are allowed. I don't care about enforcing any kind of post requirement or post order other than try to post at least once a week and not have it be boringly short. I may have the RP focus on starting earlier than present day to allow people to form plotlines of their own and form relationships with each other's characters. But the earliest it start would be in 1843

ahhh yes.... well then. we're five years ahead of Karl Marx.... but that doesn't mean that other socialists weren't around. *checks the clock* Oh look. it's class war time!

seriously though, i would love to rp this. after all, who doesn't like to blow up the queen (i guess we'd guillotine her but like... this is Not Britain and not Not France)

Sometimes its stays quiet, and then sometimes you get like, 5 people at once. I think this is a solid concept, it'll get the love it deserves with a bit of time.

Hi!!

So is OOC on RPN or Discord?
Does this setting have like acceptance of different ethnicities or is more segregated?
And so is this like a free roam where there is no cohesive group plot and we just react to GM posts and go wild?

Gonna be on RPN. Different ethnicities is fine. Other nations besides albion do exist but they can just be people with different ethnicities living as citizens of albion.
It's gonna be free roam yes. I will say the plot isn't too cohesive but there are some major plot points that i want to have in order to give the RP some structure.
