Music Goji's Orchestration Studies (Feedback Welcomed!)

"Orchestration" is (essentially) the process of arranging melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic content into a coherent piece of music.

I've never been great at that, despite having played guitar for now almost 20 years and composing for orchestra as a hobby for around 9 years... Jeez. Has it really been almost a decade of orchestral study? 2014? Yeah. Dang. Where'd the time go?! I'm oooooooold!!

Anyway, enough of my existential crisis!

I figured it'd be fun to do short study pieces to practice orchestration. They'll all be between 10-30 seconds long (maaaaaybe very rarely longer than that, depending on how much inspiration and love I have for the results). So, hopefully, they're at least bearable to listen to. Lol.

Any feedback is appreciated. And please don't hesitate to be constructively critical! I thrive on taking in notes, tips, and tricks from those who may know more than I do, or may have more experience than I do, or both. So, don't hold back on my account! However, "constructive" is the key word. If you've nothing positive or educational to add to your criticism then it's not welcome, and you may kindly escort yourself elsewhere.

Thanks!

Anyway! Study number one, inspired by the Lord of the Rings piece "The Bridge of Khazad Dum," by Howard Shore (and yes, I know it kind of cuts the reverb tail at the end, but SoundCloud won't allow me to replace the original file unless I get their premium subscription, and I ain't about to waste money on that for something so small when it's the music that's important, lol)!!

A new study!

No specific inspiration for this one. Kind of a brass-dominated heroic type thingie majig, or something like that.

I hope you enjoy!

EDIT: I got another one done! Again, not based on anything in particular. But I got hit with the ostinato in the low strings/brass and everything else fell into place.

I hope you enjoy!

Been a while since I composed anything. But here I am, back at it!

This piece is a shorty, but a goodie (had it on repeat for almost an hour and I'm still not sick of it yet, lol).

The basic story of this piece is that it's representative of how my character, an assassin, was trained in such a brutal fashion that he became an unstoppable and inescapable force of nature in the field. Unless you kill him, he won't stop hunting you. He'll find you no matter where you hide, or how deep the hole you dug yourself into may be.

Lemme know whatchya think!

Oooh, dark and ominous~
What a great composition :)

Came up with another little ditty tonight!

I'm on a roll!

This one's a fun, upbeat track with a lil' twist here and there for funsies!

I hope you enjoy!

These are all incredible! The musical depth to each gives them so much character, I never want to stop listening! I can’t wait to hear what else you come up with!!

Hoyo!

Got another one.

I started playing Ghost of Tsushima again (dear gawd, that game is amazing!!), and it made me want to compose something with a bit more of a Japanese flare.

So, here we are!

I hope you enjoy!

your compositions are very pretty! the heroic theme is honestly my favorite, it is something that i can envision being played once you complete the hall of fame in pokemon or something

This one's a WIP, but I'm enjoying it so much I can't help but share the progress!

Any thoughts or feedback on it are welcome!

I hope you enjoy!

I forgot to post last week. But this is the piece I wrote during my Wednesday stream on Twitch. It took about an hour and a half, if I remember correctly. I call it Dark Forest since it gave me kind of dark fantasy forest vibes while in combat or just because of how creepy and unnerving the forest branches hang as if they're trying to reach out and drag you to the darkness.

This little ditty took about an hour on stream two days ago on Wednesday, and I call it Techstra Blitz since it's a mix of electronic elements and the orchestra. And I blitzed through it in an hour, so it's a bit rougher around the edges than a normally constructed piece might be. But it was still fun. Lol.

I hope you enjoy them!

Okay. I have a VERY different kind of piece to share this time.

Nerissa Ravencroft is my favorite VTuber. And, as a true simp would do, I'm writing a song for her based on the lore of her character in HololiveEN. I've never written a song with lyrics before. So this is a learning experience. Lol.

Side Note: I suffer from major imposter syndrome and have ridiculously high standards for myself as a musician/composer. And I'm never happy with anything, really. But this one's different. I'm actually SUPER happy with it and proud of where it is and where it's going. And I can't wait to finish it.

But since I'm impatient I'm sharing the progress.

(Vocals are a synth, if you can believe it; Synth V to be precise with the Mai voice preset)

I hope you enjoy!!

UPDATED!!

Still unfinished, but it's coming along!

I've got some mixing left to do for sure. But overall the composition is finished. I may change one or two minor things in the final section at some point before I fully release it into the world. But for now this will do for progress!

Okie dokie!

So, I'm late (AGAIN). But here is "I Am The Devlish Diva," and a bonus "Demon Dogs, Bau Bau" which is for the twin sister VTubers known as Fuwamoco! (I'll try to fix the "disabled by owner" issue when I get home from work today.)

And yes, I put the videos together as well. Not great, but hey. I'm learning. 🤣

I hope you enjoy!

My latest piece for Shylily!

SoundCloud only for the moment. I'll update soon with the YouTube video once it's done.

I hope you enjoy!
