The One and Only
The year is 3046 and humans have achieved much more than they ever thought possible. They have perfected intergalactic travel and have colonised dozens of worlds. The race is ruled by one central government, lead by a monarchy on earth and though they hold complete power, they are fair and just and treat the other colonies with respect and generosity. The human race is experiencing a period of peace unprecedented in it's history. No wars have been fought for five hundred years and the military and police forces have largely been replaced with machines, cutting down on the loss of human life substantially. People are living longer and retain their youth for decades as all but a handful of diseases are treatable if not cured.
Everything was perfect... Was perfect.
Three decades ago a colonisation ship was sent out to colonise yet another planet in the name of man kind. The planet, named Upsilon by man, was in a yet unexplored sector of space and little was known of the planet itself except it was a prime asset to terraform and colonise. Apparently we weren't the only ones who thought so. The day the ship landed on Upsilon marked the first contact humans had with an alien race, several actually, and the first casualties in the war that followed. The colonists were slaughtered without mercy and the ship was used to trace their origin.
Mission control only retrieved one garbled message with only one seemingly nonsense word being distinguishable "Iriki". The name stuck and a full blown war swiftly followed. Humanity found that it was slowly loosing ground against the Iriki as their robot armies simply weren't versatile enough to fight an opponent they barely knew. Instead they began Operation Gods Above, a government initiative to train soldiers for the first time in five hundred years. They took babies from orphanages, foster homes or who were volunteered and began intense genetic and cybernetic enhancements on them.
For the purposes of their experiments they built HMSS Olympus, a colossal space station in orbit around Earth to serve as a home and training facility for the children. Each child was tailored from their birth to be modelled after a deity of ancient human culture, given specialised abilities and traits of said deity. These soldiers are Humanities key to winning the war and taking back the colonies lost to the Iriki.
