Realistic or Modern give me one last kiss [p] while we're far too young to die

dakota elisabeth castille did not fall in love. she didn't "do" commitment. but her six-month long entanglement with zachary meyers had brought her dangerously close to that. he stood beside her at the top of the social ladder, and they had everything together. she was the queen, and he was her king.

at least, until she walked into his apartment three days ago and was greeted with the sight tiffany rivera between his sheets. tiffanny rivera, her third-in-command in their little posse of six.

suffice to say, the pretty blonde was no longer a member of the clique.

the resulting fallout at school (her, dakota castille, being cheated on? oh how the turntables) was to be expected, but it didn't unnerve her. she was already used to the whispers behind her back as she walked down the hallways, the side glances she'd receive as if they thought she lacked peripheral vision, the sudden silence that blanketed a room full of people whenever she entered, where it couldn't be more obvious that she'd been the subject of their conversation just moments earlier. no, dakota didn't care for the gossip trail surrounding her, for it had been a constant presence in her life for years.

what was unnerving was the constant ache in her chest.

on this particular friday evening, dakota found herself hosting a party in the comfort of her own home. some coped with heartache wrapped in blankets downing ice cream by the pint, but the brunette found solace in alcohol, loud music and a house filled potential flings. after refilling her cup for what felt like the sixth time that night (but was probably more), she navigated her way from the kitchen to the living room, just in time to watch tiffany and zachary making out against a wall.

the same wall he'd pinned her against a mere week ago.

she could already feel a familiar gnawing in the pit of her stomach, but dakota's expression remained unfazed as she walked towards the leather couch in the centre of the room. though she could barely feel her feet at this point, she somehow managed to sit down in a passably elegant fashion, her azure eyes never once leaving the couple. why the fuck were they even here? showing up at her house as if nothing had happened? granted, she'd invited them out of necessity - she couldn't let them know that she actually cared, that she was actually hurt - but she had at least hoped that they would have the decency to spend the night somewhere where dakota wouldn't have to be reminded of every moment she'd spent in zachary's embrace.

then again, perhaps she'd expected too much.

"ugh." her face pulled into a grimace at last, disgust evident in her voice. "it's absolutely revolting." a hypocritical statement coming from her, to say the least - she'd gotten off with more guys at parties than she could remember. but that didn't matter at all now. not when all that seemed to matter was the spectacle of her friend in her lover's arms, his lips pressed against hers.

his lips. his arms. they had been hers. he had been hers. and she had been his.

and then he fucking cheated on her and now he was tiffany's and she was nobody's.

the lump forming in her throat was the warning sign she needed to tear her eyes away. she couldn't cry here. not in their presence. not in his presence.

"can you believe the nerve of them?" at last, she turned to face whoever it was that she had taken a seat beside - someone who's identity, up until this point, had remained a mystery to her.

we took too many shots
and I think we kissed, but I forgot
nathan had gotten through the school day with a breeze, as always. his friends mentioned something about a party before school had let out and it was being hosted by the queen bee of the school. he had no intention of attending but wanted to study instead. his friends told him to practically live a little and it was the weekend, what did he practically have to study for. eventually, he gave in, just to shut them up but never mentioned if he was actually going to be there or not.

of course, nathan didn't really need to study since he was at the top of his class. an accomplishment that he had worked very hard for ever since kindergarten.

he had finally mustered up the strength to get up and dressed for the party. he didn't really have many party options but remembered a certain box that was upon the shelf within his closet. with the box in hand, a gleam shined in his eyes and a smile appeared across his lips. nathan had reviewed over himself in the mirror with an arched brow of approval. it was not ideal for him to be going to this party. no one knew who he was except his friends. the hierarchy didn't even know who he was and that who was throwing this party.

it seemed unrealistic that someone of his stature was going.

a few more minutes went by and he heard the honk of a horn from outside. nathan jumped up from his bed then rushed down the stairs, where he ambushed by his parents. ❝going somewhere?❞ his mother asked with arms folded over her chest and an unapproved brow flared upward. ❝uhm, yes. a party actually. it's the weekend, mother.❞ he sighed softly to himself while his mother came up to him and hugged him. ❝we're just glad that you're going out. enjoy yourself, son.❞ his father nodded his head then patted his back while they cleared the path for him to maneuver between them and go outside, where his friends awaited his arrival.

the drive to the party was basically nathan sitting there in silence while his friends made fun of him. he did the occasional head shake then leaned his head against the window. it was no bother for him to comment because they were going to continue for the entire night anyway.

they had arrived had nathan's eyes widened at the house that the event was taking place. the music, the alcohol, and the house filled with people were exactly what he needed right away. this was a getaway for him because he was too upright and his friends just wanted him to let loose, which he was going to do right now. ❝how about a drink?❞ one of his friends asked while nathan nodded his head in response. he walked around for a moment as murmurs of him being there could be heard.

he ignored them, of course as he continued to maneuver his way through the sea of people before him. he hardly knew anyone there except for his friends, who dissipated throughout the crowd. nathan had just found a spot to sit down on a leather couch nearby. his friend brought him a drink from the kitchen and spoke to him. ❝don't sit down all night, okay?❞ again without words, he just held up his drink with a smile that suddenly went away once his friend left him.

it wasn't even a minute or two later that he felt someone sit down beside him and utter a question. he had turned the face of the person beside him and his eyes widened. he didn't know what to say or even do because he was mere inches from the queen bee herself. ❝uhm, are you talking to me?❞ he finally asked, feeling a little stupid considering that no one else was around.

❝well, of course, you are. what happened?❞ he asked loud enough for her to hear him and in a concerning and sincere tone as he leaned closer toward her. his eyes followed her gaze towards two people, who were making out against a wall. ❝oh, wow. you shouldn't have to see this. uhm, want to go outside or at least away from this?❞ he asked her while a brow of his raised out of curiosity while he could feel the stares from people that surrounded them. people were already forming their own assumption of them right now.

they would totally be wrong about whatever story they were making up inside of their heads.
