Fran DeArc

Madame Sadist
All The Bravest

Toot! Toot!

You slowly open your eyes once you heard the sound of a loud engine. You have no idea where you are or how you got here. Your memories are a bit hazy, but you can remember the last few moments beforehand:

The ground shaking...

The sky falling apart...

A flash of light coming straight for you with impeccable speed...

And then you end up here: riding on a train that seems to lead to nowhere, sitting on a surprisingly comfortable seat. You look out the window to see millions of stars in the sky, whole galaxies just casually floating around, and oddly shaped structures here and there.

"Oh, you're awake!"

$

You look up to lock eyes with a red-haired woman with a big smile on her face and a notecard in her hand. She seems more than happy to see you. She clears her throat as she reads from a notecard:

"Ahem...

Congratulations! You've been selected by the Overseer to participate in the 115th annual Brave New World Invitationals!

Yes. Once again, that pesky Overseer is fiddling with the very natural fabric of the universe and combining countless worlds for their amusement and the inhabitance of these worlds (that's you!) are, unfortunately, guinea pigs in the grand scheme of things. The result was the creation of a single universe comprised of eight systems, known as The Eight Verses, each similar in function and structure. Let me explain: "

Verse I: The Vast Plains

tumblr_osgsbhwUcI1qgvvtno1_500.jpg

Guar Plains
A world where natural tranquility and mechanized triumph coexist... Well almost. The Mechonis still despise the Bionis, but the two races certainly share a firm hatred for Cocoon. It's the standard world where adventurers and bounty hunters are always welcomed. It is the home to several unspoken treasures and holds a plethora of lost history. Exploration is highly encouraged as most of the world has yet to be discovered.

Key Locations:

Battlefield (Super Smash Brothers): A mysterious platform that floats above the majority of the world. Not much is known about its creation or purpose, but many speculate that it was once the place where fighters from many other universes came to fight to the death. There are different varieties of the Battlefield, such as an even bigger version which houses five more platforms. The rules are fairly simple: whoever falls off the platform loses.

Gaur Plains (Xenoblade Chronicles): A location on the lower part of the Bionis' Leg, an ancient organic being now in deep slumber. It is the largest area in all of the Vast Plains and houses an overwhelming majority of its inhabitance. Here various towns or "colonies" have established themselves as mining towns as the area has been known to house various precious metals. Do not be fooled by its lush and grassy plains, though. Here, the Mechonis are free to roam around and they do not too kindly to strangers. Metal Head, in particular, is not one to be trifled with, so please travel with the utmost caution!

Devil's Grief (Horizon Zero Dawn): The northernmost ruins in the Vast Plains. If one were to traverse farther from Gaur Plains, they would end up here. Many warn travelers to avoid Devil's Grief at all cost as it is considered to be the graveyard for all robots (and eventually all Mechonis), however, it has been noted that many of the supposed "dead" robots are still alive and roaming around. Watchers and Striders are fairly common here. Currently, most of Devil's Grief has yet to be discovered, but it has been rumored that invaluable treasures are hidden deep within the mechanical graveyard. Might as well take a look!

Cocoon (Final Fantasy XIII): Cocoon is an artificial continent floating above Gaur Plains and it is often mistaken for a moon. It also houses a multitude of futuristic cities (some of which are mistaken for starry skies). Eden is its capital and it is currently being controlled as a theocracy (They serve no one but their god). It was built by the Fal'Cie on the pretense of protecting humanity from all evil forces, but the people of the Guar Plains see Cocoon as a sort of false paradise planning on destroying everything below. They plan of "cleansing the filth below."

Ancient Forest (Monster Hunter: World): A thick and lush forest with massive trees and clearings to the coastline. It acts as a wall between Guar Plains and Devil's Grief. Many monster hunters traverse the Ancient Forest in hopes of finding a nice find for nice pay. It's lower forest region houses many smaller monsters such as Pukei-Pukei while its higher region houses ancient trees and high cliffs. The higher forest also houses a nest of Rathalos, giant wyverns who are worth a handsome bounty if caught. The only way to reach the shoreline is through the Ancient Forest.

Verse II: No Man's Land

FalloutNewVegas_review1.jpg

New Vegas
A wasteland of a universe. Dangers can come from anywhere here. From nuclear winter to violent underground volcanos, No Man's Land is almost uninhabitable. Despite this, it is rumored that this verse holds a smorgasbord of treasure waiting to be plucked. Only the most daring (or stupid) would want to live here! Oh, also, its capitals New Vegas and Rapture are at war with one another. Just saying!

Key Locations:

New Vegas (Fallout: New Vegas): Originally known as Las Vegas, New Vegas is apart of the Mojave Wasteland and serves as one of the two capitals of No Man's Land. Unlike most other cities destroyed by nuclear fallout, New Vegas came out relatively unscathed, with most of the damage coming from the collapse of society instead. Several factions run different parts of New Vegas but the New California Republic, The Legion, and Mr. House basically runs the majority of the city. Parts of New Vegas include Freeside, Vegas Sewers, Vegas Strip, North Vegas Square, and Westside. Currently, New Vegas is at war with Rapture.

Norfair (Metroid): Norfair is an underground volcanic area below New Vegas. The only way to travel here is through the Vegas Sewers. Norfair is comprised of caverns, tunnels and a lava-sea that covers a majority of the area. The area is inhabited by heat-thriving creatures that are able to adapt to the heat-filled environment. Some of these caves have Chozo-inspired artifacts and it's been said that even Ridley himself is somewhere in Norfair. Currently, the people of New Vegas are unaware of Norfair's existence.

Pandora (Borderlands): Pandora is a planet floating directly above the underwater city of New Vegas. It is a barren and desolate world inhabited by monsters. It is the former home of the Atlas Corporation and current home of Hyperion Corporation. There have been rumors of a cache of technology called the Vault of which many vault hunters have so sought after. In No Man's Land, Hyperion makes its money by dealing weapons to New Vegas while also secretly dealing weapons to Rapture. Unbeknowest to Hyperion, the Atlas Corporation has been on the rise...

Gas Town (Mad Max: Fury Road): Gas Town is a large structure located near New Vegas. It is an ally of New Vegas. The Inhabitants of Gas Town wear masks to prevent them from inhaling fumes from burning derelicts. The big oil rig mentality caused the town to be mainly inhabited by men, not too many women, both of which had too much time on their hands. The town has a gladiatorial arena called "Thunderdome Plus" which is inspired by the original "Thunderdome", however, unlike the original where two fighters fight each other, Gas Town's Thunderdome has many fighters fighting against each other for the prize.

Rapture (Bioshock): Rapture is an underwater city created by its founder Andrew Ryan as a means to escape the political, social, and religious anxieties of society. Rapture is one of the two capitals on No Man's Land. It is meant to be a place free from "parasites," but recently Rapture has been caught up in a power struggle with New Vegas. The original goal of Rapture was to create a capitalist society free of any religion and government interference of any kind, where any citizen could prosper for his or her own gain, without having to fulfill the wants of others. However, for the less fortunate, living in Rapture was difficult and currently, the city is at war with itself: the poor vs. the elite.

Tau Volantis (Dead Space 3): An icy "barren" planet floating above Rapture. It used to be an entirely aquatic planet housing an unknown alien species until the Marker landed on the planet. Now Tau Volantis is an icy backwater planet and home of the first Necromorphs. The planet is considered "Extremely Dangerous" by the people of Pandora due to the known existence of the Necromorphs, but Hyperion intends to send in a group of vault hunters to intercept the Marker for profitable gain.

Outer Heaven (Metal Gear): A military sanctuary established by Big Boss. It is a fully independent nation a few kilometers away from Rapture. It houses disillusioned soldiers who refuse to be pawns to the overall government. In No Man's Land, Outer Heaven serves an ally of Rapture since both nations share a common philosophy.

Final Destination (Super Smash Brothers): A version of the Battlefield that floats above No Man's Land. Final Destination is the opposite of the Battlefield and houses Master Hand, Crazy Hand, and Master Core. The function of the Final Destination is the same as Battlefield.

Verse III: The Acropolis

Detroit-City-Hero.jpg

Detroit, Michigan
A high-end futuristic empire determined to further advance its society. Various cities have joined forces (Except Midgar) to create a perfect utopia for all to live in. Each city specializes in a certain field. Despite its good intentions, there are those within the Acropolis who don't have everyone's best interest at heart.

Key Locations:

Wakanda (Black Panther): The Kingdom of Wakanda is a small landlocked country known for its technological advances. It is ruled by T'Challa who dons the mantle of Black Panther. Wakanda serves as the main hub for all of the Acropolis' activities. The country used to be isolated, but now it has opened its borders for other like-minded places such as Numbani. However, Wakanda is weary of Shinra and its underhanded schemes.

Midgar (Final Fantasy VII): A city isolated from the rest of the Acropolis. It's run by the Shinra Electric Power Company and unlike the rest of the worlds, Shinra would rather prefer Midgar to stay isolated for fear of sharing power. Midgar specializes in mining Mako energy in order to power electricity. Shinra also operates in genetic engineering, space exploration, and it funds the elite group SOLDIER. Shinra wants to take over all of the Acropolis by taking out Wakanda.

Copied City (Nier: Automata): A strange city located near Detroit. Not much is known about this city other than the fact that it is supposed to be an emulation of another city and that "research" is conducted here daily. The alien lifeform Adam and his brother Eve reside here.

Detroit (Detroit: Become Human): The city of Detroit houses CyberLife, the creator behind its androids. Here androids serve humans, however, there has been civil unrest between the androids as they want to be free and live their own lives. Currently, the government has been able to suppress the androids, but the android revolution still continues and it appears the revolution is about to get violent...

Numbani (Overwatch): A small city located outside Wakanda. It is Wakanda's closest ally and also houses an Overwatch facility. Unfortunately, the city has been restless as Doomfist and Talon have been terrorizing its inhabitance.

Verse IV: Grand Fantasia

4b3a2bfc6d9429d34ee920f72d2474a5.jpg

Province of Summerset, Tamriel
A conglomerate of fantasy worlds constantly at war with each other. Many countries and kingdoms have waged war with one another with one goal in mind: ultimate supremacy over the planet. The tragedies of war have overshadowed this universe's beauty.

Key Locations:

Tamriel (The Elder Scrolls): A continent comprised of nine provinces: Black Marsh, Cyrodiil, Elsweyr, Hammerfell, High Rock, Morrowind, Skyrim, the Summerset Isles, and Valenwood. The key players are Morrowind and Skyrim. Tamriel is bordering Hyrule from the North and Westeros from the West. Hyrule and Archanea are Tamriel's allies. Currently, Tamriel is at war with Westeros and The Niflgaardian Empire.

Archanea (Fire Emblem): A continent also known as Ylisse which borders the Niflgaardian Empire. It countries consist of Archanea, Altea, Gra, Talys, and Macedon to name a few, but its key players are Altea, Ylisse, Ferox, and Plegia. It is the home of the divine dragons and humans. Archanea is an ally of both Hyrule and Tamriel and intended to stay neutral until the Niflgaardian Empire invaded, killed some of their people, and attempted to steal the Fire Emblem. Now Archanea is at war with Niflgaardian Empire.

Hyrule (The Legend of Zelda): A land which houses the three pieces of the Triforce and home of the Hylian people. Once inhabited by the Goddess Hylia, afterward, several incarnations have ruled Hyrule for generations. Hyrule Castle is its capital. Because of its bordering proximity, the Hylian people are often confused for Tamrielic Elves and vice-versa. Archanea and Tamriel are their allies and are actively fighting Westeros.

Askr (Fire Emblem: Heroes): A small continent located just off the South shore of Archanea. Askr is home of the Order of Heroes, a group of special people from all parts of the universe who fight off all opposing forces. They are actively helping Archanea in the fight against the Niflgaardian Empire.

Westeros (Game of Thrones): A continent bordering Tamriel and is a sea's distance away from the Niflgaardian Empire. The entire continent is run by The Seven Kingdoms and its allies are the Niflgaardian Empire. Westeros has waged war against Tamriel and its allies for supremacy as it sees Tamriel as a true threat.

Nilfgaardian Empire (The Witcher): It once was the most powerful empire in the world, but now it faces competition as other continents rise to power, especially Archanea, its neighboring continent. Niflgaard invaded Archanea in pursuit of the Fire Emblem but failed thanks to a combined effort from the countries plus Askr's intervention. Westeros is its ally and they intend to destroy all opposing continents. Gwent is a pretty popular card game in Nilfgaard.

Verse V: The Dreamscape

kirby-background-2.jpg

Dream Land
A universe created by the will of dreams. Both pleasant dreams and horrific nightmares reside here. This is the kind of where you can make anything you want, when you want, how you want... or at least that's what the Dreamscape is supposed to do. There are limits, but for the most part, the verse is pretty open for nearly anything. The phrase "anything's possible" is taken to a new high here.

Key Locations:

CraftWorld (LittleBIGPlanet): A multi-colored fabric planet that resembles Earth. It is the home of the Sack People who are small doll-like creatures with a love for creativity. CraftWorld's motto is quite simple: "Play, Create, and Share." Unfortunately, nightmares such as The Collector and The Negativitron threaten the very existence of CraftWorld. The Alliance is Craftworld's reigning government body and the protector of the planet.

Popstar (Kirby): A distant planet shaped like a five-pointed star with two interstellar rings orbiting its surface. CraftWorld is its next-door neighbor and like CraftWorld, its people are fairly peaceful and carefree. Popstar houses the Dreamscape's capital, Dream Land. Dream Land is constantly a target for evil nightmares who intend to destroy it and plunge the Dreamscape into an eternal nightmare.

Mementos (Persona 5): The palace for everyone's hearts. It is located beneath The World That Never Was and is regarded as the Dreamscape's "Dungeon of Fears." It appears to be a massive series of subway tunnels with wooden train tracks in place of rails, with various features of a prison such as chains or bars. A plethora of nightmares live down here and the lower one traverses, the more dangerous the nightmares become. At the very bottom of Mementos is where Shadow Selves reside, often taunting or treating anyone who passes through. Despite the high risk, great rewards can be found within Mementos.

The World That Never Was (Kingdom Hearts): Also known as the Dark City, it is a world that is home to an endless horde of Heartless and Nobodies. It exists outside the realm of both Popstar and CraftWorld. A flying fortress, known as The Castle that Never Was, floats over the world as a base of operations for Nobodies. It looks like an empty city filled with tall skyscrapers with neon signs. This is where most nightmares are born from and several entities such as Marx reside within the Castle, which in itself is a maze of mystery.

Verse VI: Hellcaller

2017-05-25-image-17.jpg

Dracula's Castle
A universe born from all the horrors across the verse. The vilest and most horrific creatures live here and to them, bloody carnage or absolute terror is the norm. I can't imagine anyone actually living here unless they live for thrills or they just want a good scare (or a death wish). It's kind of hard to tell which world is scarier than the other since all of them have its fair share of fear.

Key Locations:

Dracula's Castle (Dracula / Castlevania): This castle is the home to the infamous Vampire Lord Vlad Dracula. Dracula's castle sits on a cliff over Silent Hill and Racoon City. His castle is comprised of classic monsters of yore such as werewolves, mummies, succubi, and the like. The castle is quite big with dozens of rooms and hallways; it's pretty easy to get lost. Dracula has once again been resurrected to wreak havoc on the human race and he also intends to spread his influence across the multiverse. Currently, Dracula rules all of Hellcaller, except Mars.

Silent Hill (Silent Hill): Located near Raccoon City, Silent Hill is a town shrouded in mystery. On the surface, it looks like a quiet and peaceful town but in reality, it harbors two parallel worlds: Fog World and The Otherworld. Fog World is the world between Silent Hill and The Otherworld and is seemingly uninhabited (it's not, by the way). A thick mass of fog covers the entire town to the point of obscuring sight, but be wary that monsters can come from all fronts. The Otherworld, however, is an unforgiving, dark, and nightmarish version of Silent Hill. The Otherworld is a reflection of the character's personal nightmares and psyche. It appears that time does not apply in The Otherworld either.

Raccoon City (Resident Evil): Raccoon City is a small, industrialized city, isolated by mountain ranges. In Hellcaller, the city is actually not too far away from Silent Hill and it seems to be perpetually stuck in the year 1998 when the t-Virus broke out. Now the city is infested with infected zombies ready to kill and eat anything that moves. The Umbrella Corporation has a firm grip on the city.

Beacon Mental Hospital (The Evil Within): A mental institute located on the outskirts of Raccoon City. It was intended to care for the psychologically disturbed but in reality, it's being used as a front by MOBIUS to perfect the STEM prototype by using the mentally disturbed as guinea pigs. Anybody who walks in here will surely not come out the same way.

Mars (Doom): Mars acts as the "Red Moon" of Hellcaller and it floats directly above Dracula's Castle. It has two moons: Phobos and Deimos. The Union Aerospace Corporation used to do operations on both moons and on Mars until their teleportation devices opened a portal to Hell. Now demons and other forces of Hell inhabit the planet.

Scarlet Devil Mansion (Touhou): The Scarlet Devil Mansion, a wonderful place for the weary, if they do not mind the host being a vampire, and the inhabitants being a little less than sane. An eerie place on first glance, the Scarlet Devil Mansion is nearby Dracula's Castle and is a popular hot spot for parties that are commonly hosted by the Scarlet Devil herself, Remilia Scarlet. This place is probably the least scary place among Hellcaller.

Verse VII: Heavensworn

LNEJ4XK.jpg

Colombia
A universe that is comprised of a Sea of Clouds and the world below the Sea of Clouds is barren, devoid of any life. It is the complete opposite of Hellcaller in every aspect. Both humans, angels, and other gravity-shifting beings reside in the skies. While some places are more religiously-oriented, other places rely on pure science and ingenuity to get by. There are two regions of Heavensworn: Lower and Higher and it is all connected by a long and large tower known as the World Pillar.

Key Locations:

Skyworld (Kid Icarus): Also known as Angel Land, this is the primary home to the Goddess Paultena and the Angelic Army. Skyworld is quite expansive, ruling most of Higher Heavensworn. It is known to be a place of paradise and eternal bliss for those who have done good in their life. Palutena's Temple is the capital of Skyworld. Skyworld is also known for its hot springs and is the self-proclaimed protector of Lower Heavensworn.

Jirga Para Lhao (Gravity Rush 2): Jirga Para Lhao is located in Lower Heavensworn near the World Pillar. Jirga Para Lhao is a large, thriving metropolis that consists of a series of floating islands. There are four layers to Jirga Para Lhao which are Lei Colmosna (the Marketplace, an area of commerce and industry situated in the middle of the city), Lei Elgona (the Houseboat Fleet, a poverty-stricken shantytown at the bottom of the city), Lei Havina (the Old Settlement, an idyllic collection of mansions and parks for the wealthy that floats above Lei Colmosna), and Avarash au Govena (the Central Authority, home to the city's military and governmental presence, flying high above all the other layers)

Colombia (Bioshock: Infinite): Columbia is an artificial city floating in the sky located in Lower Heavensworn just above Jirga Para Lhao. The city was commissioned by the United States government and founded by Zachary Hale Comstock as a symbol of American political and religious ideals. Columbia, capable of flight due to the scientific discoveries of physicist Rosalind Lutece, was completed and eventually seceded from the United States. Columbia's internal means of transportation include zeppelins, cargo barges, hovercrafts, gondolas, and Sky-Lines. Bridges are also automated to connect with different moving portions of the city at various stations, scheduled like any other transportation system. Unlike the Religous Skyworld or the Magical Jirga Para Lhao, Colombia relies on the methods of science.

Purgatorio (Bayonetta): The realm that exists between Higher Heavensworn and Lower Heavensworn. It is the closest conception to limbo or purgatory, hence the name. It is also the gateway between Heavensworn and Hellcaller. Here is where both angels and demons can interact with each other without interfering in the human world and for humans, it is considered the "Definitive Waiting Room" for dead souls. Access into Purgatorio is difficult as only the divine, the damned, and the dead can enter.

Verse VIII: Metro Kingdom

SMO_Metro_Brochure_Art.png

New Donk City
A universe comprised of metropolises throughout the universe. This is usually where people such as superheroes and street gang members live. Almost the entirety of this world is made up of large skyscrapers and buildings. It's probably the closest you'll ever get to "realistic" around here.

Key Locations:

Los Santos (Grand Theft Auto V): Los Santos is a huge and sprawling metropolis west of New York with various different cultures, ranging from the prestigious film-making industry of Vinewood to the suburban hood life of Strawberry, just to name a few. Los Santos is also the stronghold of the criminal underground. Some of the neighborhoods in Los Santos suffer from high crime rates, specifically the southern part of the city. Los Santos is primarily affected by drug trades between many gangs in and out of the city. These drugs include crack, meth, and marijuana as well as a new drug called "Toilet Cleaner." Besides the drug smuggling, the city suffers from violence, murder, and gang fighting as well as organized crime. Corruption is widespread around Los Santos with the LSPD engaging in wrongful acts.

New Donk City (Super Mario Oddessy): Also known as the "City That Never Leaps," New Donk City is the capital of the Metro Kingdom and based off the real world counterpart New York, except with Super Mario-inspired concepts. Speaking of which, New Donk City is a couple of miles away from New York, so it can be hard to differentiate from the two cities. Pauline is the mayor of the town. The New Donkers have also recently gotten into the RC Car craze, and enjoy racing their toy cars in the streets.

New York (Marvel): Specifically Earth-616's New York. Known as the "The Big Apple" or "The City That Never Sleeps," New York is home to a majority of superheroes. The Fantastic Four HQ, Avengers headquarters, and Doctor Strange's Sanctum Santorum are located within the city and the city is often a prime target for major attacks. New York is often mistaken as New Donk City by New Donkers because of how similar they look and how close the two cities are.

Gotham (DC): Gotham City, or simply Gotham, is an American city rife with corruption and crime. It is the home of its iconic protector Batman and it is a mile drive from New York. Gotham is also the home of rampant and recurring corruption within the city's civil authorities and infrastructure, most notably within the Gotham City Police Department. One of Gotham's most prominent buildings is the Arkham Asylum, a fictional psychiatric hospital north of Gotham City which houses Batman's most notorious foes.

Inkopolis (Splatoon): A city on an island near Los Santos inhabited by the kid-squid Inklings and Octolings. At the heart of Inkopolis is Inkopolis Plaza, where the mall Booyah Base can be found. Inkopolis Square is also a popular hotspot around the city. Other places include Octo Valley is a large, underground area that serves as the base for the Octarian Army. Currently, the Inklings are involved in a great Turf War between the Octarians. Popular music groups such as The Squid Sisters and Off The Hook are fan favorites among the locals.

"And... I think that's it! I think there might be a few other worlds coming soon, but this is what I know for sure! Hope I didn't bore you with all the details! Now off you go! Oh! And one more thing:"

"Welcome to the Brave New World, Friend. Just try not to break anything."

(Your character starts off on the train about to get off to their intended destination or feel free to come up with a creative opening for your characters!)
