In 2037 the world as Mankind knew it came to an end. World War III. Who are you? Just a survivor, saved from among the ruins by soldiers in 2038. Some of you even fired on the soldiers fearing for your lives. But that did not stop them from subduing you and taking you in. The Americans were gathering as many of their people as they could. Once gathered in a colony these survivors were interviewed and a handful selected based on certain qualifications and sent to a Project run by a Dr Xavier Thomas.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Must be a minimum of age 36, preferably a minimum of 41.
2. Technical / Professional skills a big plus.
3. Espionage and Law Enforcement knowledge a plus.
4. Must be American and have been in the USA when the War happened - and in 2018.
The age criteria is the most enforced. This is because the Project has undertaken an initiative to send a group of people back 20 years in time to the year 2018 - just their minds - into their own bodies. Younger subjects would be too constricted by the issues of being teenagers. Age 41+ is most useful as those members would have been age 21+.
The Process
The first generation of brain-computer interfaces reached the consumer market in around 2010. This technology was crude and limited to begin with: more of a novelty than a serious application. Devices could perform only the simplest of operations, such as directional commands. Some university experiments were successful in creating text messages using thought power alone, but were slow and required bulky equipment to do so.
Advances by 2020 enabled the sending of messages via wireless headsets and visors* – but the process remained sluggish and unreliable, often demanding a high degree of concentration.
By 2030, however, exponential progress had been made in mapping and understanding the brain and its neuroelectrical signals. This was filtering down rapidly to the consumer market. Detailed, real-time messages were becoming possible, using non-invasive methods. The graphical interfaces used in composing messages had also been much improved, with more intuitive navigation and features.
By 2040, the technology would have been largely perfected for everyday use, working well and cheap enough to spread to even developing countries. Privacy and security issues were being resolved, with personal firewalls able to restrict any unwanted intrusion or hacking attempts. The headsets, visors and earphones necessary for users would have been miniaturised and made more comfortable. Some would be even fully implantable. Whether for business or personal use, people everywhere would enjoy a faster, more sophisticated, more private way of communicating.
However Xavier Thomas managed to develop the technology to hack memories - assuming he had been the one - the team would never know. However he DID admit to developing the technology to transmit the copied data into the mind of an individual’s younger self through time.
Translated, this would mean that each member of the team would have their ca 2037 mind downloaded and integrated with their 2018 counterpart. The team was warned that the process might be physically and mentally traumatic. But the trauma should not be lasting. One part of this process would result in bringing to the surface ALL the memories of their life - fresh. Because of this ALL members chosen for the mission had to have lived a life without the potential for creating PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).
The Mission
1. Locate Dr Xavier Thomas in the past. This is the scientist that is sending you into the past. He is a genius of unparalleled ability, the next DaVinci. He is age 25 in 2037, So he will be age 5 in 2018, his parents having recently died. (This isn’t completely true. The 5 year old Xavier wouldn’t talk.) Xavier remembers the exact day, the police who responded, the hospital he was sent to, the Child Protective Services people. He would make the trip himself, but someone has to operate the parachronic equipment.
2. Arrange for Xavier’s education at an accelerated pace.
3. Watch out for the aliens.
Aliens?
Yes … aliens. You see mankind wasn’t as mad as everyone thinks. They were manipulated into the war. In addition to giving Xavier a head start on his education and a chance to save the world, you will also need to try to thwart the plans of the aliens. Toward that end there is another scientist you may want to contact, Dr Julian Carver.
Dr Julian Carver is a highly placed scientist they very probably worked with alien technology. Odds are that the aliens which provided this technology were the very ones that caused the war. He had a granddaughter named Sarah. She would have been 7 years old in 2018. Her father as a Marine who died when she was 7. She never knew her mother. Sarah grew up as a prodigy in archaeology. Her grandfather blamed the government for the death of Sarah’s father. The year 2018 is a turning point in Dr Julian Carver’s loyalties to the US Government.
In 2037 the Americans’ knowledge of the aliens is very limited. Here is what is believed:
1. They are anthropomorphic - human shaped.
2. They are shapeshifters, able to assume human form. Whether they can copy a specific human isn’t known.
3. They are susceptible to bright light.
4. They possess a technology well beyond human technology.

RULES
General Rules
- All site rules apply
- No God Modding, Bunnying, Metagaming, etc.
- Romance is fine, but fade-to-black for those mature scenes (18+ stuff)
Writing Rules
- Posts must be of good writing skills, and generally a minimum of three paragraphs. Really I am looking for better than that. I want paragraphs that aren’t two sentences long. Good content. Use third person, past tense.
- Characters need to interact. While I realize that dialogue is challenging for some, it will be a requirement. Watch for examples of how to make speech more noticeable. (Most usually use boldface. Some add color.)
- Try to stick to one or two posts a day, giving others a chance to post. What I do NOT want is to have two characters bouncing back and forth with short one paragraph posts. If you want to do that, build up a Joint Post in PM's, then have one of you copy and paste it, cleaned up for spelling and grammar, what clarity as to what character is doing / saying what.
- As a minimum members are expected to post at least every other day - unless most of the RP is on hold for a scene between a couple characters. Then those characters need to wrap their scene up. The idea here is to not keep other members waiting.
