Fandom Flareclan Territory

DemonKitten

Handler of Souls, Destroyer of Hearts

World Touched by Fire
The sun beams down, yet, you are surprisingly cool given the dapple of shade from the overhanging trees. Perk your ears and you can hear the sound of many song birds and chipping of squirrels. This all seems so pleasant, but be weary of your surroundings. If your scent is caught by the cats that dwell here and you aren't one of them, you might as well be crowfood.

Welcome to Flareclan territory where they ask questions after they skin you. If you aren't Flareclan it is best you wait on yourside of the border for the patrol to come and even then passage is not guaranteed. If you are willing to risk a little skin, feel free to enjoy what this territory has to offer or just scurry over to silentclan border and hope nothing grabs you.

If you find yourself lost, make sure to check the ✺Flareclan Cats✺ Page in order to find your way.

If you couldn't already tell, this is the roleplay area for only those roleplaying in this area.

Current Status
Flareclan has found dead rabbit bones on their territory and many of the warriors blame Wispclan.
The same fox has been scented for the past moon and it is worried she has a set somewhere.
AS always, Flareclan cats are suspicious of Silentclan's silence.

The sun shown through the den leaving alight pattern on the dirt floor. Amberfire stirred as the rays hit her eyes. She was the youngest warrior, so she had a den closest to the front and the sun always hit just right. It was probably for the best since the yellow tabby was not much of a morning cat. She tried to turn over, but the sun seemed to be trying to peek over her shoulder and the emptiness of the den told her she should probably get up. Morning patrol would be coming back and some hunting parties would probably be arranged.

Stretching awake, Amberfire gave herself a quick once over before leaving the den and heading towards where Splashwing seemed to be watching the camp. The not so serious tom looked as if he was seriously concentrating.
"What is on the to-do list today?" she meowed to the black and white tom, who was quickly snapped out of his thoughts.

"Ah, Amberfire. You are going to become lazier than me," he purred. "Well, to prevent that from happening, I have you going on a hunting patrol to fetch me some food," she rolled her eyes, but gave a smirk.

"I don't know how you became deputy. Who am I going with?" she asked.

"I think Brightfern and Blackpaw will suffice. I might send Honeypaw, but that depends on Lavastar," Splashwing replied. Amberfire looked towards the entrance as Splashwing's attention left her. The morning patrol had returned with Sunclaw, Windrush, and Stonetail.

"What is it?" Splashwing approached them as he could see the irritated look on all of their faces.

"Rabbit bones on our side of the border," Windrush informed Splashwing. "It must be Wispclan," he suggested with ah int of a growl on his tone. The idea of a fight excited Amberfire. Maybe Lavastar will finally strike back! she thought, but Splashwing quickly motioned them away and into Lavastar's den away from her prying ears. I could try and listen from the bottom branch... she thought, but realized Splashwing had come out to motion to Brightfern meaning it was time to head out.

Sighing, Amberfire walked over to Brightfern. "Hunting patrol?" she asked with her enthusiasm returning slowly.

By the time most cats were just waking up, Blackpaw was already bright-eyed and bushy tailed. In a manner of speaking of course. That wasn't to say that she was usually up so early, it was more of the fact that a mouse from the fresh kill pile wasn't as 'killed' as the hunter that caught it thought it to be. It somehow found it's way into the apprentice's den and sort of wrecked havoc. Havoc as in scratching both her and Honeypaw then hiding in the cover of their bedding. Even now, Blackpaw was having a time of it, trying to paw through the bedding to find the squeaking mouse.

Brightfern lay in the sun, grooming her coat. She had risen a while earlier, having been annoyed into wakefulness by her brother's grumblings as he stretched and prepared to go on morning patrol. He had often teased her about her lack of energy in the morning, so she was excited to do the same to him this time.

She spotted his patrol as they trotted back into camp, and rose to her feet to greet her sibling. Yet Splashwing, who had been conferring with them, ushered them towards Lavastar's den. She paused in her tracks and frowned, that could not be a good sign. Likely a threat, either from another clan or from a fox or badger. She would have to grill her brother later, she wanted to know who she would have to fight.

She spotted Amberfire heading her way, and nodded upon hearing her suggestion, giving a small tail flick of excitement. She liked going hunting, and this would be a great time to teach Blackpaw a few tricks. Plus, it was possible Amberfire knew something, she had seen her emerge from the warriors den a few minutes ago and head towards the entrance to camp. "Of course!" Brightfern meowed. "Just let me find my apprentice."

With that, she turned and made her way to the apprentice's den, poking her head inside. "Blackpaw?" She called, then let out a gasp of shock at the state of the den. It looked like a fox had ripped through it. "What's going on?"

Amberfire
Amberfire was taken by suprise when Brightfern was so quick to agree before she even mouthed a word edge wise. "Uh, okay. I will meet you two at the entrance!" she called after, but felt herself being drawn towards the nursery. She knew Fawnfrost must be getting bored having to be cooped up in camp all day. It might take her awhile to get Blackpaw, she thought.

Approaching the nursery, Amberfire called out before entering. "Fawnfrost? Are you up and moving?" she meowed to her friend before entering the den.

At being caught in such a state, Blackpaw froze like a trapped rabbit about to be pounced on. She slowly wheeled her head to look at her mentor, her eyes wide as can be. She gulped, not really knowing how it might have looked to Brightfern. "Uh, there was a mouse. I was trying to catch it," Blackpaw tried to explain, her words coming out in a rush. "I have no idea where it came from, I swear!"

Lavastar was already out of his den that morning, in time to see the dawn patrol return to camp. His tail flicked, registering their irritation. Must be bad news, he reasoned. And once again, he'd have to calm the clan from the brink of war with practically every other clan. Honestly sometimes the leader felt like the only sane cat in the clan, or at least, the only non-war-mongering cat in the clan. Flicking his ear as Splashwing motioned for the patrol to go towards his den, Lavastar turned and headed back into his den to discuss with the patrol, or more importantly, Windrush and Splashwing. The leader liked to console in his deputy, if not because they were friends, but also because Splashwing often gave interesting insight and thoughts on a situation, however bias towards Flareclan those thoughts may be. He vaguely overheard the mention of rabbit bones. It wasn't often that Flareclan caught rabbits, and if it was near Wispclan border, then there was no reason to assume it wasn't Wispclan. But the thoughtful leader wasn't one to just assume. He'd rather not out Wispclan at a gathering, but talking between two leaders was often hard to accomplish without looking aggressive by crossing into another's territory. That left two options - one was to wait out and see Wispclan's intentions, a solution that the majority of Flareclan wouldn't like, or simply set up constant watch over the border, something that couldn't be realistically accomplished.

The leader sighed to himself. Why did this have to happen so soon after being made leader? And then after having very little time being deputy? The young tom's ears flattened, and he scowled at the floor of his den, lost in thought even as other cats entered his den.

Splashwing
Splashwing could see that his old friend was not enjoying his new time as leader. It was difficult leading a clan that was quick to attack while you were a more diplomat of sorts. Splashwing bowed to Lavastar which lead the other cats of the patrol to do the same. Seeing no reason why they should all be here, Splashwing motioned for only Windrush to remain to discuss what was seen. He knew the evidence was fairly clear, but he was not all too keen on getting into an altercation so soon after they had just established leadership. Of course, this altercation could help for Lavastar to show his dominance and convince Flareclan he was right to be leader since some cats feared the way he ran things.

"Go ahead and explain what you saw," Splashwing informed the older tom. It was strange to order more senior warriors around, but Windrush only nodded as he told his story of finding three sets of rabbit bones buried on their side of the border.

"They should know that once it crosses the border it is Flareclan's prey!" Windrush exclaimed and Splashwing rested a tail on his shoulder to calm him down.

Galestorm rose from the warriors den, each stride made long in order to stretch his stiff muscles. He had been on guard duty just hours ago, and normally he would have chosen to sleep a while longer, but he had business to attend to. Business in the form of a stubborn young she-cat that he now called his apprentice. Of course, the warrior had nothing against his new apprentice - it was just taking him a few sunrises to actually get used to the idea of having someone to look after specifically. In all actuality, he was happy to have his own apprentice now, and it was a challenge he was eager to accept. Already he was growing a bit protective of Emberpaw.

Ah, but she was quite the character. He had no doubt that she would leave him exhausted at the end of every day. She could have quite the tongue, and she was perhaps one of the most motivated apprentices that he had ever known. It hadn't been long since she received her new name, but he already had to tell her to relax a bit. The first awake, the last to call it a day - that was how she was, and he was quick to realize that. He wouldn't even be surprised if she was waiting for him now, eager for her daily training session.

The tom took notice of the cats entering the leader's den, and he recognized them as the morning patrol that had left shortly before he was relieved of guard duty. His curiosity was struck, but he figured that he'd find out if something happened eventually and instead continued to the apprentice's den in search of Emberpaw. Brightfern was also there when he reached the den, likely in search of her own apprentice.

"Good morning, Brightfern," He mewed, before stopping in his tracks at the sight of the den. It was an absolute mess, and the suspected culprit was much too obvious. His eyes shone with amusement, but he said nothing about the mess. Instead he looked inside of the den, but found that Emberpaw was nowhere to be seen.

I should have known she was already awake, he thought.

"And you're absolutely certain the scent on the bones belonged to Wispclan? Was there any left over scent on the bones, aside from rabbit?" Lavastar asked, pulling himself from his thoughts to hear the recounting. Three sets of rabbit bones was a small patrol. Wispclan warriors should know better than eating while on patrol, given their willingness to follow the code to the letter. There's no chance it was a new apprentice who lost track of the border while hunting. There were three possibilities, then. One, Wispclan was attempting to instigate fights with Flareclan, which was out of the ordinary. Two, the fox had set somewhere in their territory and was now hunting on the border with Wispclan. Three, someone, or a group, within Flareclan wanted to fight Wispclan for some unknown reason.

Fortunately, Emberpaw had been able to avoid the mouse incident due to her habit of waking up early. The apprentice had been sitting outside of the apprenices den at the time, thinking about what she was going to do today, and practicing keeping her shoulders and back straight for long periods of time. It made her look more professional, in her opinion, and more warrior-like. She even puffed out her chest a little bit and fluffed up her fur, to make her look bigger.

Though, her ideas of grandeur and warrior impression quickly faltered when the squealing and crashing about from the apprentices den started up. She poked her head inside briefly, only to notice the entire place had been... well, totally ransacked. Bedding everywhere, Faint squeaking noises. Yet, the other apprentices were actually awake early! Emberpaw had felt a bit of pride for the fact that the others weren't sleeping in, even f it had been caused by a mouse. But that moment of clarity and pride was quickly replaced by the realization that, well, her bed wasn't exactly in the best state, either. Her ears dropped, and Emberpaw turned away from the apprentices den, so she could go on the hunt for more moss. Typically, she would expect her mentor to be at the den soon, but if she made her trip around the camp quick enough, maybe she could beat her mentor, and she wouldn't be late. Unfortunately, as it turned out, there wasn't just fresh moss lying around the camp. Not even by the elders den!

Her thoughts were turning towards heading to the medicine den to get some moss from Badgerfoot, before she noticed a familiar gray pelt by the apprentices den. 'Galestorm?! Oh no!' She thought in a quick panic, bouncing in place for a few moments, debating whether she should make her mentor wait longer and grab the moss, or just run over and apologize for being late. After a few seconds of deliberation, she decided to head over at nearly a run, having to make an effort to stop in time so she didn't bump into her mentor.

Galestorm. A noble warrior, in her opinion. They hadn't known each other long, since she had just recently been made his apprentice, but she had already gotten a basic grasp on his personality. He was a cat that worked for what he wanted, a bit stubborn, and not always the most patient with Emberpaw, but really, she couldn't have asked for a better mentor. When she was a kit, she had hoped for a mentor that knew how to be a warrior, who worked hard and would teach her how to be the best warrior she could be! She had been dreading a lazy cat, somebody who didn't know what they were doing, or even worse, both! But, luckily for her, she had gotten a good mentor, and it only made her feel worse about being late!

"Galestorm!" She exclaimed, bowing her head as she spoke, as if expecting some sort of retribution. "I'm late, sorry! There was a mess in the apprentices den, I thought I could fix it! I misjudged the time, though!" Emberpaw had a habit of speaking loudly and in clipped sentences, when she was ashamed of something, and today was no different. While she may not have actually been late, Emberpaw prided herself on her organization and her mental scheduling, so if there was a single moment that was off, it called for worry and panic. "I'm ready for training, though." She added on, glancing up slightly to look at her mentor, a hopeful gleam in her eye.

Brightfern shook her head, chuckling in amusement at her apprentice's expression. "Well, good thing we're going to work on your hunting skills today. The mouse has probably scurried out some hole by now. Tidy up what you can presently, we'll work on fixing it later."

She looked up as Galestorm padded over. She nodded in greeting, echoing the sentiment: "Good morning. How are you?" She saw him look into the den, either in search of his own apprentice or marveling at the destruction, and was about to tell him that she hadn't spotted Emberpaw yet when the cat in question came running up at full speed, managing to slow down in time to stop. She let out a small laugh again at the general enthusiasm of apprentices.

As Emberpaw began to speak rapidly to her mentor, Brightfern turned back to her own apprentice. "We're going on a hunting patrol with Amberfire. Are you ready?"

Just as he was about to answer Brightfern's greeting, he spotted the form of a small tortoiseshell bolting straight in their direction. He didn't flinch away as she approached, instead standing his ground as he watched with amusement as the young she-cat came to abrupt stop just a short ways away from him.

Her words flooded out with obvious intent to explain the situation, though Galestorm saw no reason for it, especially when she was trying to help the siutation. Even if he had felt any irritation, it would have quickly been released eager look in her eyes. It was difficult to be upset with any cat as ready to train as her. "It's quite alright, Emberpaw. No need to fret over the little things like this," He replied, "Besides, I got here just a moment ago and what's important is that you're awake."

Galestorm walking past her, before stopping short and glancing over his shoulder at Brightfern and her apprentice. "We'll be working on fighting maneuvers outside of camp today. You're both welcome to join us after your patrol, if you'd like," He offered, "Good luck on your hunt, to both of you."

With that he turned to Emberpaw and nudged his head towards the direction of the camp's entrance before padding in that direction, not waiting to see if his apprentice was following. He didn't have intentions of straying too far from camp today - it was unnecessary, really, for the kind of training they would be having today. First they'd work on her climbing, and secondly, combat maneuvers that began within the trees. It wasn't the most common tactic within Flareclan, but sometimes it was the more efficient one, especially when dealing with Silentclan.

The sheer amount of excitement and relief that Emberpaw felt at Galestorm's words couldn't be measured, on one hand, fighting training with the possibility of fighting with a real warrior, wow! She got to show off her fighting skills, and hone her abilities! On the other hand, Galestorm wasn't even upset about her being late-- well, what she considered late. Maybe she wasn't even late at all, and her original worry had been a bit of an over-exaggeration, but you could never be too careful. Emberpaw always liked to be on the safe side, anyways.

As Galestorm began to pad off, Emberpaw didn't hesitate to follow. She kept at his side while preforming a rather childish march, with her chin held high. While Emberpaw held herself in high esteem, and liked to believe she was already on the way to becoming a great warrior, she still acted like a kit sometimes, without realizing it. When Galestorm stopped to speak to Brightfern, so did she, and even echoed his words: "Good luck! Oh, and let me know if anything happens, Blackpaw!" She chirped happily to the other pair, before resuming her march.

She didn't wait long to begin speaking again, she rarely did. "So, what kind of training are we looking at today? I know it's fighting, but what kind? There's different kinds, right? I'm not just asking about things that don't exist, right? There's fighting that's good against prey-- I guess that's just called hunting-- and there's fighting that's good against warriors, like stealth or full on blunt attacks... right?" Emberpaw rambled, before turning her gaze up to Galestorm, as if expecting him to make sense of the nonsensical babbling of an apprentice.

Splashwing
Splashwing looked over to Windrush, who seemed rather frustrated by Lavastar's questioning his nose. He knew the senior warrior wasn't taking to kindly to this young leader's attack on his judgement.

"The scent seemed wiped clean by last night's rain, but there is no doubt Wispclan has been closer to the border as of recent," he meowed trying his best to keep from growling at his leader. Splashwing could see Windrush's eyes narrow, but the tom was polite and would not lash out at his leader, though he assumed he would complain to another senior warrior later when all was done. The black and white tom made no motion to speak or provide suggestions unless Lavastar absolutely needed it, but he knew that once the information spreads that the clan would want to act given most of the cats' personality.

Trying to kick the moss back to where it generally should be, Blackpaw grew excited at the prospect of going on a hunting expedition. She did a sloppy job but she promised herself to collect more moss when she got the chance to make up for her poor hunting skills. She looked up at her mentor happily, purring slightly while trying to hide the still-messy apprentice's den unsuccessfully with her tiny body.

She blinked up at Galestorm and grinned when he wished them luck and nodded to Emberpaw. "Of course! Let me know if anything happens on your end!" she called before turning back to Brightfern. "So where're we heading to today?"

Time passes in Flareclan, prey is still found scattered across the border towards Wispclan. Tensions are high due to little action done by their new leader. It is now mid-day the day before the gathering.

Amberfire
The day was almost over and, yet, Amberfire felt she had accomplished nothing. The murmuring of the camp told her that Lavastar had still not made a decision about the Wispclan cats and it made them all anxious. Never had there been a leader not so keen to fight. It was what made them strong or at least that is what Amberfire had always thought. Her claws dug into the dirt as she watched the camp share tongues around her. She normally would be all for going to see Fawnfrost, but she felt she wanted something more. Time was just moving to slowly for the overly eager she-cat. The only thing that kept her going was that the gathering was tomorrow. I hope I get picked, she thought. Amberfire glanced over towards the entrance. She sort of wanted to see the rabbit bones for herself. A lot of cats were saying they smelt wispclan, but that it was faint and could possibly be just because they were on their border first. IT was amazing how no one was quite sure, but Amberfire hadn't had the chance to scent them herself.

Surely that would get me a spot at the gathering! she thought with her eyes widening and her claws pulling in. She got up eagerly as she pranced towards the entrance. The camp was rather busy and she had been doing patrols all morning, so Splashwing wouldn't mind if she went out for herself. Afterall, she was a warrior now.
