The Continent of Quartell

The human empire of Belhemoth holds the greater southeast, ruled by the ailing Emperor Landrod the Light. Known throughout the continent, he brought peace between the human empire and the inhuman and exile tribes. The empire is the most sprawling of all the regions, taking up most of the continent.

The capital city of Astralis sits on a peninsula in the very south-east, with varying towns and villages scattered to the farthest reaches of the territory. Many forts and defensive structures dot the land, from the time before Emperor Landrod where war between the races was common.

A huge fissure splits the east and west of the continent, with many forts and walls built along it. The Fortress City, Latispire, sits on the northernmost part of the fissure, on the border of the Crystal Mountains to the north.
Though Landrod remains the ruler of the whole empire, the human empire is split into three provinces:

The Capital Province, with the Prime Minister Sharene serving as Landrod’s voice and administrator;

The Farm Province, the largest of the three provinces consisting primarily of the rural towns and villages that provide the empire its goods. The province is governed by the Council of Mayors;

The Border Province, headed by Landrod’s eldest son Markham, where the majority of the empire’s soldiers are trained and stationed to guard against intruders from the Wildlands.

1587294076137.pngPrimarch of the Dragons - Evangeline - has visited the human empire several times before to provide her council.

Holding the north are the Crystal Mountains, the dragon homestead. Home of the dragon tribes, roaring kingdoms said to dominate both the mountain peaks and the dark caverns below. The people are made up of three sub-races:
  • The true Dragons. Ancient and wise, they rule.
  • The Manaketes are their children, beings who, through the power of the crystals emblazoned with Dragon breath, can assume their true draconic form.
  • Finally, the humans who worship the Dragons and Manaketes.
Due to their isolationist nature, very little is known about the Crystal Mountains and the people who dwell there, save that they exist.

The western Wildlands are the home of those who do not dwell in either kingdom, primarily bandits, Beastmen and exiles. The swamps, deserts and thick forests lead many in the human empire to wonder how anyone could survive there, making it the most common location for exiled citizens to be sent.

To the south of the Wildlands are the Ancestral Homes of the Beastmen. Millennia ago, a human lord ran many experiments with the interest of gaining the power to transform, much like the Manaketes. He found success in the ancient temple of the God of the Wilds, to the west of the Human empire, granting him the power to take on the beast-lord's form. With the ability to become wolves, tigers, birds and more, he and his allies became a new race, and claimed the maze-like jungle as their home. Eventually, the leaders of these rising clans united to form something akin to a government. There are currently four heads of the tribes: Garroth the Sabertooth, Lilac the White-Wing, Torrel the Swift-Footed and Bryce of the Waves.

The primary clans are...
  • The Avian. All bird-like, they dwell in homes built into the high cliffs along the coast;
    • 1587292020334.pngThe ruler of the Avian is their Queen Lilac. It is said that her beauty is unrivalled across the whole continent. She is rumoured to have silver hair and fair features with luminous white eyes said to reflect the moonlight. Her wings are large and fluffy and, befitting her human-given name 'White Wing'. She is said to transform into a Snowy Owl and has a reputation of a black widow amongst the avian for having several children to several men, all of which did not last long after their children's birth. She considers the other beast tribes to be barbarous and discourages interaction with them. In contrast she admires the Dragon Primarch Evangeline and regularly hosts extravagant galas for her.
  • The Savage. Primarily carnivorous beasts, they make their home in the densest parts of the jungle, close to the Wildlands;
    • 1587292881816.pngThe ruler of the Savage is Garroth, a larger than life man who stands at 7ft in his human form with thick black hair all over his body. All there is to know about Garroth is he is the truest believer of might is right and has zero tolerance for pacifism. While he is not bloodthirsty he believes all should know how to fight and any that don't aren't worth his time. He is rumoured to regularly visit the Atlanteen archipelago to battle with Bryce of the Waves; the only beast to have bested him in combat. He transforms into a Gorilla, with very prominent lower canines that are even present in his human form, giving him a lisp when he speaks. His obsession with strength has ironically led him to never take a wife and to this date, he has sired no children.
  • The Short-Hair. Primarily vegetarian and omnivorous beasts, they inhabit the plains closest to the human empire and are the most populous;
    • 1587291995846.pngTorrel of the Plains is cautious. She is acutely aware of her close proximity to both the Savage and the human empire. Due to her cautious nature, she refuses to hold a single place of rest and prefers the nomadic lifestyle. Many short-hairs follow her, though there are still a few settled villages. While not a pacifist, Torrel holds firm that combat is best avoided. She grew to be good friends with Landrod and played a big part in ending the wars with the beastfolk. Torrel has a single child that she treasures and would do anything to keep safe. Her beast form is a Kangaroo.
  • The Atlanteen. These aquatic beings live on the islands dotting the entire southern coast. They are the most isolated of the Beastmen but have been known to trade fish to the coastal towns of the Empire.
    • 1587291854569.pngBryce of the waves is a legendary figure among human fisherman. A scaly armed man who wears no shirt and jovially wanders into coastal human towns carrying collosal nets of fish for trade. He is the most well-known Beastman to most of the human empire due to these visits but few are aware of just how powerful this comedic figure is. Short and smooth silver hair adorns his head and at a distance, he could easily be mistaken for human were it not for his wide grin of razor-sharp teeth. Bryce has fathered several children to his many wives and cares little for formality or politics. His wives often end up managing the atlanteen population and their relations with the other inhabitants of Quartell. Bryce transforms into a Mosasaur, amongst the beastfolk he is known as the Ocean Dragon, and has lived as long as many of the oldest dragons.

Religion:

In the past it was believed that three deities created the world and brought life to it:

Soloman, God of the Wilds and Patron of the Beastmen, created the forests and filled them with animals to hunt.

Cynthia, Goddess of Magic, provided the rain to fill the oceans and allow plants to grow. It is said that the true Dragons are her descendants, and she directly taught them the original magic that has now spread to the other parts of the continent. It's also believed that she was the one who carved out the fissure, splitting the continent into two.

Finally, Havoc, the God of the Land, who created the original humans and granted them the knowledge to farm. Believed to still be guiding their growth, he is still worshipped within the human empire, and has the day of the harvest held in his honour.

Royalty:

1581737014270.png Emperor Landrod: Known as the King of Light, Landrod led the Human empire to peace and prosperity, ending wars and forming pacts with their inhuman neighbours. Though not old he is ailing and is not predicted to last another year.

1581737114960.png Markham; Crown Prince and ruler of the Border Province. A military man, he has been raised to wield any weapon and imparts his knowledge to his generals below him. As the victor of countless skirmishes across the wall, he has grown to be cruel and prejudiced towards the Beastmen and wildmen to the west. He is wary of the Dragonfolk to the north, as while they have never shown outward hostility to the human empire. He is one of the few to have seen the wrath a large group of Manaketes presents and knows that they are the greatest threat to the human empire.

1581737402692.pngAgatha; Princess of Belhemoth. She is considered the pride of the mage academy. Agatha is praised for her brilliant mind and aptitude towards all fields of magic. She has been tutored by the Prime Minister Sharene to act as the right hand when her father passes, and the crown is moved to her brother. However, Agatha doesn’t trust her brother. She considers him barbaric and paranoid and has been using her position in the capital to pamper her father in the hopes that he passes the crown to her.

Unbeknownst to anyone, there is a third child who was the result of Landrod’s secret marriage with a humble village priest after the former queen's passing. The princess Karlia was raised in the farming village of Rivercross by her mother. She was drafted into the village Militia recently, unaware of her father’s identity.

Important NPCs:
1581737486031.png Karlia. The secret daughter of King Landrod and the local Priestess, Karlia is the newest recruit to the Rivercross Militia, ready to go on her first mission and support her comrades with healing magic.
1581737620564.pngBrendan: Captain of the Rivercross militia, he holds the group together. He is a firm follower of Landrod and believes in peace between all the races of Quartell. Has a secret Kitsune wife and son in the Short-hair clan.
1587289566928.pngJJoanne De Lyon: Captain of the 2nd Squadron of the Royal Pegasus Brigade, she was impressed by Fydoria and took her under her wing. She's an old drinking buddy of Brendan and knows of his secret family.

My Sheet

Name:
Joy
Age: 22
Gender: Male
Race: Raven Laguz (masquerades as human)
Appearance:
1581836029501.png
He “wears” a black feather cloak, which is actually his wings, disguised. Always wears the hood up to his his pointed ears. Under his mask he has a cheeky young face and wavy black quoff. Transformed he has a 3m wingspan and smooth feathers.
Class: Thief/Raven
Weapon: Iron throwing Knives
Personality: Cheeky and cheerful, Joy aims to embody his name and brings a positive attitude to every aspect of his life. He finds citizens of the empire thoroughly amusing and is fond of them like the way a child is fond of a strange bug they see. He takes great joy in stealing odds and ends from human nobility but can be quite reckless.
Lineage: Raven father, Cat mother, commoner.
History: Joy grew up on the avian coasts close to the border and Short-hair tribes, always bothered by how much land the humans had, he and his friends would often fly over and cause some havoc just to mess with the humans. Never anything harmful, drop some fruit from on high, let the horses loose. One day Joy flew over by himself but quickly found himself surrounded by a patrolling group of knights. Grabbing a hood from a washing line he hastily covered himself, lowering the tips of his wings to appear as a cloak. He effortlessly walked past the humans in his simple disguise. Amazed out how such a simple disguise could fool the humans Joy began stealing from them in various places, he would fly to windows, open them and steal one or two fancy looking belongings.

Joy’s enjoyment in thieving grew and his hunger for danger grew even more, giving himself bigger and riskier targets to hit. Until one day he overstepped his bounds and ended up cornered by the Captain of the Rivercross militia during an attempt to steal some of the magic herbs they grow. Brendan was also amused at how easy it was for a winged man to hide amongst humans. Instead of arresting him, Brendan offered Joy a place in the militia as a scout, with permission to pillage as much as he wanted from the bandit’s they were sure to fight. Joy took him up on the offer, though that hasn’t kept him from occasionally wandering into the houses of nobles.
Other: Only Brendan knows that he is a beastman.

Class: Sword Dancer (equivalent to Myrmodon)
Weapon: dual iron sword
Personality: Taciturn, slow to warm up to people, caring, wise, sarcastic, confident humorous
Lineage: tribal princess
History: Though it is hard to imagine such time where the empire of Belhemoth dominance was not assured. There was time it had to find lots of tribes and nations for the position of power. One of the most dangerous tribes it had faced were the tribes of the Drakkar Archipelago in the east of the content. These tribes were raiders and plunders, renowned for their seamanships who constantly attacked the empire for loot. They would strike hard and fast at ports and isolated costal villages before leaving to the safety of their sea before the empire could react.

The more they got away with it, the more bold the became, striking harder and deeper. This continued until the leader of the Alarda tribe, Imrae's great grandfather, united the rest of the Drakkar tribes into a confederation and began a great war against the empire. The war was bloody and was once feared to be near bring the empire's to its knees. One of the keys to its success of the Alarda was the sword dancers, members of an order of swordpriest practicing and ancient martial art as away as a sign of faith to pagan gods. They were fierce and fanatical fighters who turn the tides many times. However they were hot enough, the empire defeated the confederation decisively and took over their lands.

The emperor at the time dealt with the tribes harshly but despite the leading role of the Alarda was impressed by them. He was more lenient to them giving them an offer, integrate and use the sword dancers in the service of the Empire and keep some level of autonomy or parish. Imrae's father not tribal leader agreed the former. Since sword dancers elite troops of the Empire, remaining a small amount as they refuse to train anyone but their own tribes. The agile and dance like movement is an impressive sight and a common pass time of citizen is to watch them train.

Imrae as future tribal chief was trained in such dancer and so was part of the force sent to serve the imperial forces. However despite the peace relation between the empire and the Alarda are still strained as the decision for the tribe to submit was unpopular on both sides. As a way to ease tension, Imrae was sent to the Militia rather than the army with the hope, that the militia would he a leas dangerous duty.

Make sure to check the rules over in the OOC.
No need to bold Belhemoth if you don't want to.
I like your history, I hadn't thought about still having threats in the empire. Are you okay with having the tribal war be some time ago, I want the empire to have basically been unified for some time, before landrod. If it works for you, he could be the one to have offered the olive branch and allowed the Alarda to regain some of their original autonomy? Feel free to discuss it with me over DMs or in the OOC.

Name: Tiorna Revek
Age: 22
Gender: Female
Race: Human
Appearance: Coming up to about 5'9", Revek stands as an imposing figure... to most of her enemies. She has medium black hair, with two white streaks on the right side. To her chagrin, she is occasionally called a skunk by some of her more unfriendly allies.
She wears a thick leather coat with fur lining the collar, as well as generic pants and sturdy boots. Revek dons a studded leather glove on her right hand, and a thin fingerless glove on her left.
Class: Fighter
Weapon: Iron Axe
Personality: Naturally, Revek never looks happy, only sometimes showing a slight smirk on the field of battle. To all, it seems the other thing of interest to her is combat, which she doesn't disagree with. While she does enjoy violence, hurting innocents is something she'll almost never do. The first time was an accident.
Lineage: At best, daughter to a wealthy merchant. At most, just another commoner.
History: Born to a fabulous, extravagant merchant, Revek never enjoyed the lifestyle of a noble. It was always sipping tea with your pinky out, or dancing all the time. While her mother was caring, her father never paid her much attention, earning her ire.
Father wasn't a merchant. He was another stain on the city's slate. That's what all the annoying kids at school taught her, anyway.
When she became of age, Revek left her family to venture out into the world, where she decided that serving as a militia fighter would have a far greater impact than a merchant could achieve.
Other: "Watch what you're calling me. I have an axe."

P4sL0ID.jpg
Name: Aisha

Age: 23

Gender: Female

Race: Human

Class: Archer

Weapon: Iron bow

Personality: She can read people’s emotions quite well and doesn't hesitate to lend a hand to help or a shoulder to cry on. On the other hand, she likes to surround herself in nature, away from people and their noisy place. She has killed bandits before, but is strongly against senseless and needless killing. She knows how heartless people can treat each other, but still believe everyone has their good side just like her mother taught her, causing others to think of her as gullible.

Lineage: Nomadic tribeswoman

History: Aisha’s parents belonged to a nomadic tribe. The Borovs, they called themselves so, were old, traditional people who had roamed the plains ever since the dawn of Belhemoth. Nature and moral values were greatly valued in their culture, without one, they wouldn’t be able to live on as true Borovs. Naturally, Aisha’s out of wedlock birth stirred outrage in the tribe. The father was exiled from the tribe. While allowed to stay, her mother was treated with contempt and made to do the lowest and dirtiest labors for the rest of her life. The mother and her child had to live off the milk of their skinny cow and, if any, the spare meat of the tribe’s hunters, as she couldn’t herself hunt.

By the age of 14, Aisha joined other hunters and learned their craft to provide for her small family. It was an unusual thing for a girl to do as Borovs’s women were expected to rear cattle, carry water from nearby rivers, do laundry and other menial chores. For this out of place act, Aisha’s family was further shunned by the tribespeople.

Disaster befell the tribe when they passed by jungle in the Border Province. There, they caught a strange disease that took away half of their number. There wasn’t enough food for everyone - their hunters were the first to fall ill after a hunt in the jungle. Aisha and her mother both contracted the disease. What little food they had, the mother gave all to her bedridden daughter. In the end, the mother exhausted her last lingered strength and passed away. Aisha lived, but she couldn’t bear to stay with the tribe anymore, and so she left for a new life among more settled people. She drifted away to a village named Rivercorss and took up the offer to join the local militia.

Other:

Looks good, approved. Though I'm gonna have to think of how a nomadic tribe could survive in the empire, they'd likely have wiped them out or forced them into becoming part of the empire. Send any thoughts my way.

Ula Crevau
Ula.jpg
Age: 26

Gender: Female

Race: Atlanteen Beastmen

Appearance: Like her face, the rest of Ula's skin is coloured a blue-green. She has fins on the backside of her forearms and on the back lower part of her legs. She is also has gills on the sides of her body, though, these only tend to be used if she's underwater for long lengths of time. Her attire is designed and shaped around these parts of her body so they aren't constricted inside her attire. Her main attire is shown below!

Ula outfit.jpg

Additionally, this is her transformation form below. Of course, she wouldn't be bigger than the landscapes as shown, but is envisioned to be five foot long.

Ula Form.jpg

Class: Dark Mage/Sea Snake

Weapon: Elthunder (Rank D Tome)

Personality: For a Dark Mage, Ula is a tad more cheery and friendlier than the general 'doom and gloom' attitude that most Dark Mages have been known to give off. Though, beware, for though she can be friendly, she has a temper as vicious as the high Archipelago tides. Should one set her off or rub her up the wrong way, she has been known to throw around curses without thinking of the consequences in that temper of hers. As an Atlanteen, Ula has been isolated from other cultures, races, and more, which has led her to be curious and eager to explore and learn more about the world she has been so sheltered from. Don't be surprised if she seems rather ignorant of other races and their cultures, or believes in stereotypes or wild rumours about how others live.

Lineage: Noble, daughter to Bryce of the Waves.

History: Of the five daughters and three sons that Bryce begot, Ula is the third youngest of the brood. Though once considered one of Bryce's many strong offspring, when her transformation was finally revealed, she was unjustly compared as 'weak' in comparison to her family's forms. Whilst the others were large predatory sea creatures, Ula developed the form of a sea snake, much smaller and much more pathetic in the eyes of Atlanteen. Ula, in this sense, wouldn't be considered a 'strong' successor of any means, being seen as one of the weaker offspring of Bryce. However, in saying this, most of her childhood had been spent blissfully - whether it was swimming, spending time amongst fishmongerers and the like, or else bothering her siblings and whoever else in her family.

It wasn't uncommon amongst Atlanteen for females to learn the arts of battle - in fact, it was highly appreciated and expected of most of them to learn some form of combat. Whilst most used their transformations primarily for combat, some spent more of their efforts on weaponry. Yet, Ula couldn't seem to find a taste for either form of combat. She grew quite ashamed of her form and used it as little as she could, and with weaponry, little appealed to her. It was only on a trip to a coastal town within Belhemoth to trade fish (she often went on such trips to get away from the islands), she came across a merchant trying to get someone to take an aged tome off his hands. Intrigued, Ula was the one to do it, and studied it vigourously, and thus, began walking the path of a Dark Mage.

Mages were particularly rare amongst Atlanteen, Dark Mages even more, so the idea of a clan leader's daughter performing hexes and curses, rather than sticking to the traditional usage of spears or swords had troubled a great deal of people. Several times had Ula been tried to be diverted from such practices, and several times did Ula stick her ground on the matter. Though, even as she did study more, and had practiced a few nasty hexes here and there, it became apparent such talent wouldn't manifest on the islands alone.

Upon visiting some more coastal towns, Ula caught word flying around that the Rivercross militia was recruiting, and she saw her chance of honing her skills as a mage even more. Though it was far from her island homes, and her parents and several Antlanteen would disagree with her decision, her mind had been set. Even as last minute warnings were directed towards Ula of the world outside not being as alluring as it seemed, and reassurance that they would be there for her, should she want to ever come back, she set off to Rivercross. She insisted that there, she would practice further as a Dark Mage, and perhaps see and learn more of the world as she had always wanted.

Other: As mentioned above, Ula's beast form is that of a sea snake. Though she uses it very little and believes there's few combat oppurtunities she can pull off with it, she has been known to get through small gaps and swim rather well in this form.

Approved!
I think ill get us started this weekend.

Rcticwolf Rcticwolf You'll need to fill out the whole character sheet.
Name:
Age: (Non-human races and cross-breeds tend to live longer than humans, bare that in mind)
Gender:
Race: (True dragons are out, everything else is fair game. You don't need to be restricted to the existing beast races from the games but keep them within one of the 4 categories)
Appearance: (Image or Description, just make sure it has enough detail to paint a picture)
Class: (keep it to the basic classes, for now, non-humans can have a class if they wish, if not just state what you transform into. Gender-rules from the game don't apply. Look at other sheets and try your best to diversify the classes)
Weapon: (Starting weapon, for now, max Iron but if you're explanation is good enough I may allow higher)
Personality:
Lineage: (Family lineage, where you came from in simple terms if you want to, are they a noble, a commoner, an outcast, an outlaw? Human Royals are not allowed but non-human royals are)
History: (Doesn’t have to be long, but please include a reason for them joining the militia, particularly if you’re of a non-human race)

Name: Crimson

Age: 22

Gender: Male

Race: Human

Appearance: Mat Cauthon2.jpg

Class: Soldier

Weapon: Iron glaive

Personality: Crimson, on the surface at least, is for all intents and purposes the quintessential lovable rogue. He's charming, friendly, not too serious, and a fan of gambling and drinking his days away. He also has a love for battle, he read a lot of books about great military heroes of the past growing up. If you were to ask him though, he would likely say that he's no hero and that heroes tend to end up dead before their time. He'd much rather die of old age, thank you very much. Despite this, he tends to do good things, even though he'll later brush off any heroic actions as being done for selfish reasons. Crimson is also very much a flirt, but will never pursue a woman who says she isn't interested. He can be rather dense though, and women who try to show disinterest and don't flat out say it will often still be pursued by this gambling playboy. Despite seeming to be anything but, he is also incredibly loyal and responsible. He'll follow his comrades to the ends of the world and do what he needs to do, he'll complain incessantly the whole time, but he'll do it nonetheless.

Lineage: Parents were farmers, father used to be a soldier

History: Crimson grew up as a farmer in Rivercross as the son of a former soldier in the king's army who retired early due to a severe leg injury. His upbringing was therefore different from that of a typical farmer, he would still do farm work but he also practiced using various weapons with his father and read up on military history and tactics. It was only natural then that he would end up serving in the militia after he spent his early young adult years (18-21) as the town's resident party boy, a reputation he still has yet to shake off. Despite the way he spent his earlier years he has proven to be an excellent if unorthodox recruit for the militia.

Name: Sienna

Gender: female

Race: Manakete

Age: 120 humans years (still a child in terms of Manakete, hasn't even grown her wings yet)

Appearence: long violet hair (waist length), an outfit similar to Nowi' s, goldish eyes

Class: has no class outaide being a Manakete

Weapon: none, aside from her dragonstone, has proficiency with a bow

Lineage: Grima

History: would prefer to build her history through the rp

Other: will find something at some point

Sorry i'm gonna have to ask for a bit more.
Can you add her height to the appearance and describe her appearance a bit better. You say she's a child for manaketes but does she look like one?
You're missing Personality.
Grima doesn't exist in this world so you'll need to change the lineage.
I'm alright you keeping her history hidden but I'd like something, please PM me your ideas, I'd definitely need to know how she wound up in the militia. (If you want her to join while on the mission that can work too but once again I need to know it).
