- Heya, Noivian here.
DemonKitten
has been bugging me about this, and I kinda got myself sucked into the idea, but basically I'm gonna be throwing together a Warrior Cats rp with fantastic twists. This'll include powers, mutations, prophecies, battles... all the goodies of the Fantasy section in a semi-comprehensible world based off Erin Hunter's Warriors series.
Click about - you'll see what I mean. - So basically, we're taking normal old boring cats, and throwing them out the window. Not literally. Don't throw your cat out a window.
The most heavily mutated type of cat is the Fish-cat. These cats bear both scales and sleek, short fur in random patches individual to each cat. The also bear fish-like fins on their ankles, webbed toes, and instead of a normal cat tail, have something of a whale tail at the end of their bodies. The tail starts off as wide around as their main body at the base, and tapers into a large fluke, the tail itself usually amounting to half the cat's full body length. These tails are pure muscle, and allow the cats to glide almost effortlessly through the water. These cats sometimes bear fins on their ears or shoulders, and always feature a prominent ridge along their spine. Their eyes have a third, transparent eyelid, and the eye itself works well both in low light and bright light, as well as over water and underwater. These cats have both gills and lungs, allowing them to be fully amphibious.
Fish-cats lay eggs like a platypus, which then hatch into fully aquatic kits. The kits spend the first two moons of their life fully submerged while their fur grows in and their lungs finish developing. As such, nurseries are usually entirely submerged with some kind of dry land keeping it safe from both carnivorous fish and land mammals. Kits are usually not allowed to stray far from the nursery, and are encouraged to use the shallow nursery waters to learn to swim before taking to the open water.
Fish-cats come in both salt water and fresh water variants. This RP will only be featuring fresh water variants. - Bird-cats are what they sound like - birds combined with cats. These cats are usually the smallest of cat-kind, and are the most frail in combat. They rely heavily on their wings, which can span three times their body length or more. Bird-cats can have several tail variants, one being a full feather tail which is exactly like a large bird tail. This tail is best for fast dives and long glides. The second is a hybrid tail, which is a cat tail with feathers at the end. This one is good for sharp turns and sophisticated areal maneuvers. The third kind is an average cat tail, which does very little when it comes to assisting in flight. Bird-cats have generally longer claws and stronger limbs, for both takeoff and snatching prey off the ground. They generally feature more angular features, like hawks, to help keep the sun out of their eyes while flying, however each cat's flight style and abilities directly tie to which bird their wings mimic.
For Bird-cats, learning to fly is a rite of passage every kit must take before becoming an apprentice. Kits are hatched from eggs, and are usually entirely bald until one moon, where they grow fur. At two moons, they grow baby down on their wings and at four moons, are starting to see their flight feathers. By six moons, most kits are able to sustain at least half a minute of flight and a minute of gliding from branch to branch, however many exceed this expectation.
Bird-cats, as stated before, have wings that mimic different types of birds. Some may have crow-like wings, some may have owl-like wings. This usually determines their path within the clan. More on this later. - Fox-cats are cats that have taken on fox-like features. This usually means larger ears, larger eyes, larger teeth, perhaps fangs, longer legs, and bushier tails. What makes Fox-cats special, however, is their ability to grow multiple tails. Every Fox-cat starts off with one tail when they're born - they're born normally, by the way. Most kits, when becoming apprentices, will undergo a trial, the contents of that trial kept secret from them until its time.
The trial consists of a search quest within the tunnels that exist underneath the clan territory, in a sacred place referred to as the nine trials. The search is for an underground spring. There are nine in total, and all of them glow different colors. It's said the last two of the nine are reserved for the chosen.
When they kits return, they'll be made into apprentice and will have usually spontaneously grown another tail. Through their time as an apprentice, they'll be trained how to hunt and fight, but will also be put through other trials that will help them grow more tails. When an apprentice gains their fifth tail, they're made into a warrior. After a leader dies, the deputy will go into the tunnels to complete two more trials and have seven tails. They'll then receive their nine lives from Starclan during these trials.
Fox-cats are also known for the most unique and diverse pelt colors and patterns, as well as eye colors. Their tails can be any length, from average length to up to five times their body length. Fox-cats are also able to communicate with vulpines, as well as cats. - Wolf-cats are known as the best warriors among the four types of cats. They have the longest legs, the strongest muscles, the thickest pelts, and the fastest reflexes. They appear significantly larger than the normal cat, albeit not as large as an actual wolf. They have very canine features, and can communicate with both felines and canines.
Wolf-cat society more closely resembles a pack than a clan. The apprentices are trained communally, the kits are often put to apprenticeship earlier than the other clans, given their faster growth speed, and the queens often leave camp while kitting, and return once the kits are old enough to walk around on their own.
Wolf-cats, instead of being led by a leader, are led by the alpha, their mate typically being the beta, or deputy. The omega is usually considered the most worthless in the pack, and is given the considerably dull task of being a medicine cat. Dull, that is, in Wolf-cat standards. - The clans that exist in this RP are separated by the type of cat they are. Fish-cats belong to Waterclan, Bird-cats belong to Airclan, Wolf-cats belong to Earthclan (or Earthpack, as they call it), and Fox-cats belong to Fireclan. Hybrids between the types of cats are unheard of, and mates from differing clans will usually not produce any offspring.
There are also powers associated with each kind of cat, and these powers often divide each clan in half. Every individual cat is predisposed to be stronger in one power over the other, despite having both powers within them.
Waterclan cats have water and ice manipulation abilities, as well as healing abilities. Cats who are stronger at water and ice manipulation are often apprenticed to cats of similar talents, and will more than likely become strong battlers and hunters, or streamfighters. Cats who have stronger healing abilities are more likely to become medicine cats, or bubble-sayers. Waterclan is most notable for its close ties to Starclan, given how a star once fell into their territory. Bubbles from deep within the waters of their territory tell of future events to come, and those with higher healing abilities are also more prone to hear the voices trapped within the bubbles.
Airclan cats have power over the air, and over the weather. Individually, they can usher in small rain clouds, but as a clan they can bring forth large storms that can ravage the forest. Cats who are stronger at storm manipulation usually have the hybrid tails or the normal cat tails, as their tails are integral to controlling the storms. They're also more likely to become stormfliers, a battle-oriented warrior. Those who are stronger at wind and air manipulation usually become winddivers,
a fast-striking and accurate hunter that can outpace even a rabbit.
Earthclan, or Earthpack cats have earth-manipulation abilities, as well as an almost supernatural strength and durability in battle, making them a force to be reckoned with. All Earthpack cats are trained to be warriors, regardless of if they have strong earth manipulation abilities or not. The omegas, however, are usually predisposed to have a third, much more strong connection to nature, and are able to make plants grow, as well as talk to the plants. Omegas rarely hunt or fight,
and are often welcomed into every territory for their ability to supply much-needed herbs.
Fireclan cats have fire manipulation abilities, as well as psychic abilities that increase with their tail count. Each tail signifies an increased ability with either telepathy or telekinesis. Telepaths are generally more hunting and negotiation focused, for their ability to locate and pick apart the thoughts of their targets. Telekinetics are generally better used for battle, where their ability to move things with their mind is used in their never-ending territory struggle against Earthclan. - The clans' territory is a medium-sized lake, surrounded on all sides by forest, which eventually gives way to plains. In the center of the lake is an island with a giant tree growing on it. The crown of the tree serves as Airclan's camp, whereas the caves around the roots of the tree, under the island and submerged in the water, serves as Waterclan camp. The west half of the forest is claimed by Fireclan, whereas the east half is claimed by Earthclan. Airclan claimed the meadows surrounding the forest as hunting grounds, and Waterclan has the entire lake, as well as the marsh where a river feeds into the lake. In leaf-bare, the lake freezes over, effectively separating Waterclan from the other clans during the frozen moons.
Beyond Airclan territory, the lake is surrounded by a mountainous region. The highest peak is to the north, which contains the source of the river that feeds the lake. The peak of this mountain is know as Moonpeak, and it's said communication with Starclan here is possible, however the longer you remain, the more you're likely to join Starclan, given how cold it is up on Moonpeak. The south contains the second highest mountain, known as Dark Mountain. No one's ever crested that mountain and come back, so all clans ruled it off-limits. - Prey:
The most common prey within the territory are mice, squirrels, small birds, voles, and other such small rodents. In the lake is a wide selection of fish, to the point where Wateclan rarely needs to hunt on dry land. In the meadows surrounding the forest is mainly rabbits, though field mice and lizards aren't uncommon. The mountains are more sparse, and rarely hunted in, though it's not hard to catch birds of prey, if one knows how to bait them properly. Larger prey includes deer, which is mainly hunted by Earthclan in times of dire need, though the process of hunting deer is very taxing and difficult.
Predators:
The most common predators are foxes, who tend to live in the fields surrounding the forest. Though not all foxes honor it, Fireclan made a pact with the foxes that Earthclan and Fireclan would not hunt in the fields, so long as the foxes do not attack their warriors. The second most common is badgers, which don't care for territory and come and go as they please. Badgers are common enemies to Earthclan and Fireclan, and sometimes are killed by Earthclan in the middle of leaf-bare if they run short on prey, though badger isn't very tasty. Large birds of prey are known to carry off kits that stray too far from camp, or live in an expose camp, and murders of crows can prove an Airclan warrior's death if not handled carefully. Waterclan have to deal with large fish, such as salmon or bass, preying on kits that might slip out of camp. Eels, large water snakes, and giant catfish prove to be dangerous for singular warriors. - Apart from Starclan, each clan pays homage to a certain deity that ties back into their powers one way or another, as Starclan is viewed as only half the clans' heritage.
Earthclan is the least spiritual of the clans, leaving most of the clan ceremonies up to the omegas. They honor their patron Lupa, a she-wolf of both war-like and nurturing nature. The omegas tie Lupa to their nature powers, given how Lupa was said to have been so tied into the Earth that she lived forever, while the rest of the clan take from her nature as a wolf, using her as a symbol of protection and aggression. As such, many pack alphas are female.
Airclan honors their patron, the Thunderbird, bringer of storms. They claim the first Bird-cats came from a clutch of eggs borne by the Thunderbird when it descended from the heavens. Bird-cats see the Thunderbird as the source of their powers, despite their storm powers being more directly tied to their cat heritage then their bird heritage. It is said among the elders of the clan that the Thunderbird was in direct conflict with the Leviathans of old, putting Airclan and Waterclan at natural odds.
Fireclan honors their patron Tenko, a nine-tailed Kitsune said to be imbued with unbound knowledge. Striving to achieve such heights, warriors of Fireclan often give offerings to Tenko in hopes that he would one day bestow such unbridled power and knowledge upon one of them. It is believed that Tenko spends his time searching for a mate, thus making she-cats within the clan more naturally gifted in their powers, and also more likely to give offerings to Tenko. Paying homage to the patron deity in Fireclan has a very distinct feel to it, and feels more ceremonial than Earthclan's rushed practices or Airclan's carefree nature.
Waterclan, the most spiritual of the clans, honor their patrons, the ancient Leviathans. The Leviathans are scaled sea creatures which are said to have created the Fish-cats from their own fallen brethrens' hides and a collection of cats that lived by the sea. Deep within the ocean, they murmur prophecies and foreboding warnings of futures to come. Supposedly gifted with clairvoyance, many of the Waterclan ignore the Leviathans' malicious nature for the sake of ancestral pride. Many of the Leviathans' prophecies foretell a return of their forces, drowning the world in water and reigning supreme.
There are many other deities in this world that these clans pay homage to, usually in times of crisis, when one or more clan leans strongly on another. The union between Fireclan and Airclan, for instance, is represented by a four-winged Phoenix. The union between Fireclan and Waterclan is often represented by an Eastern Dragon. A union between Airclan and Earthclan is usually represented by a Raiju. Earthclan and Fireclan identify with Hellhounds. Airclan and Waterclan have winged serpents. And Earthclan and Waterclan haven't decided on one (it's so hard to find a nature- or ground-associated serpent/fish or a water- or prophecy-associated wolf oml)
