Welcome to Fallon Cove
Fallon cove is home to a pod of mermaids whos species are still unknown to scientists, so much different than mermaids of legends and they would like to keep it that way. This town is a small mom and pop shop, everybody knows everybody kind of place friendly enough. Every year many tourists flock to the town with hopes of seeing a mermaid. Large parties and activities are planned ( Like Mardi Gras ), everyone dresses up and drinks. The coven takes a dislike to the local lore of the town. They spend the other 364 days of the year spending days at the beach and collecting cool shells. There are a couple older couples obsessed with capturing a mermaid but what town doesn't have that weird " I saw a UFO couple". There is a " Drop off " a mile out of shore where lots of deep-sea life live which attracts deep sea fisher, conveniently it is also where most unexplained fishing accidents happen. Fishermen report they've found proof of a never before seen species in their nets, it's serious enough to employ the help of a biological institute.
Lore
In the beginning, there was King Triton half man half fish, ruler of all seas, he created Derketo the first "Mermaid" top half-woman bottom half fish as his servant to protect the seas. Ancient pirate texts reveal mermaids were never depicted as good, kind, wholesome yet something bloody, evil, murderous and associated with bad omens. To quote from one of the most well-known texts " Myths claim that the mermaid's gorgeous appearance could lure entire ships onto the rocks. Orkney folklore claims that as well as a mesmerizing appearance, mermaids possessed haunting but gorgeous voices like the voices of sirens. This myth may have been started by the sirens ' transformation from harpy-like creatures mermaids. Like the sirens and the lamia, a mermaid's song possessed such beauty that it could hypnotize any man who heard it. The mermaids' melody could bewitch men, gods and mortals alike, distract them from their work and lure them into the sea." Mermaids, sirens, sea nymphs whatever you may call them were once descendants of sea creatures, and come in all shapes and sizes. Under king, Trition orders and goddess calypso in the year 1210 merpeople were given the ability to experience the full body of a human for 29 days out of a month but under a full moon, the seas calling becomes too strong. Merpeople are able to will their human selves out as well as transform into their true bodies at the contact of water.Rules
1. You can have as many characters as you want but let’s try to keep the number of humans and mermaids as even as possible!2. No Mary or Gary sues everyone has flaws and weaknesses it makes the story more interesting that way!
3. If you make a mermaid make it unique and base it off of a fish or marine creature if the fish or marine animal your character is based on is small, your mermaid can be small if your marine creature or fish is big you can make your mermaid form big, or they can grow/shrink in size. If your marine creature or fish need freshwater your mermaid can also stay in lakes in ponds! Is your mermaids' marine creature a master of camouflage? Your mermaid can be too!
4. Preferably the townspeople will have jobs or go to school but that is not mandatory it just helps the characters stay involved with each other.
5. If your mermaid is injured they must stay in the bungalow on land until mostly healed or until a healer says otherwise.
6. Characters preferably 17+
7. No one has " Superpowers " your abilities are the abilities of your marine species.
