Fantasy Escape from Heaven

Lady Sabine

Member
The Seventh Heaven is the eternal refuge of heroes, watched by the Divine Laythe and guarded by her Valkyries. It is a land of bliss and leisure, where the sun always shines and every day is springtime. Feasting, dancing, music; every form of entertainment is here to please the glorious dead. As their reward for lives well spend, the Divines have declared that they exist in perpetual comfort and joy.

And, for most of them, that worked out for the few first centuries. But in recent times, troubling stories are coming from the mortal plane. The Valkyries gossip about missions battling the Fiendish legions of the various Hells, the Divine herself is preoccupied and more often than not in meetings with the others, and any who care to trek up the High Holy Mount to peer into the Auguring Pool to watch the world left behind can witness the mayhem for themselves. Most of the heroes shrug and enjoy their retirement, but not all.

A few are thoroughly disenchanted with peace and quiet, especially while the lands and peoples they worked so hard to save are under attack from the Fiends and their legions. Of course, no soul may leave any Heaven- it is a perversion of the natural order, an affront to the system of the realms... yet somehow, the damned souls have risen, so there must be a way for the blessed souls to descend. And they have every intent of finding it.

So, very much a rough draft up there! I've had the idea of a dream team of heroes assembling in my head for a while now, and I'd really like to see it come to life. I haven't had much time on my hands for the past few weeks, but I have some from now to the end of August and I'm really hoping to spend it with a good RP. If you're looking to join, being able to devote about the same spread of time would be awesome, preferably with posts on a daily basis or close to it. So far I'm thinking this will have Casual requirements, but I'm up for Detailed if popular opinion prevails.

Really, I'm up for a lot of things, so this is the time to polish up your creativity and not be ashamed of putting your ideas out there.

Speaking of not being ashamed, this RP will, by its very nature, involve some very special and probably powerful characters. The way I'd really prefer to do this is simply to have everyone discuss their characters so that we can determine about what level of power and ability we're talking here; if this seems unwieldy I can set some hard and fast guidelines to prevent overpowered characters from running away from things. But, really, this is the place for characters that might be a little overpowered in other settings. Raising the dead, taking out more than five enemies with their bare hands at the same time, prophecy... these are all A-OK, as long as they're being used wisely. This is, after all, about heroes. They should be, well, heroic.

As for what heroic tasks they perform once returning to the mortal world.. well, that will probably depend a lot on what kind of heroes we get. A war against the legions of Hell seems likely, but whether they set themselves up as generals or go out in the field or rally the mortal forces is less set. Again, suggestions! If there's something you want to see happen, say it.

I know, I know, I'm asking for you to say a lot. Don't worry, I'm not always this pushy, and you can tell me to shove off if I get annoying. ^^ This is a collaborative effort, not a dictatorship. But if I can pretend to be a dictator for a moment, I'll just lay out a guideline for your first post...

  1. What you want to be called! Otherwise expect something embarrassing based off of your username or avatar. Seriously, you don't want me giving you a nickname.
  2. Casual or detailed?
  3. Time period? I'm picturing this as being medieval to renaissance, but I'm up for steampunk, colonialism, even WWII era. Just list them in order of preference. If everyone wants this to be modern I might make it modern, but I'm just not the biggest fan.
  4. Vague character idea/s! This can be as simple as "I really want to play a knight" or "I have a thing for teenage girls with lots of magic". Feel free to list multiple; you can plays as many or as few characters as you feel comfortable with.
  5. Something you want to see in the RP. Big on war stories? Epic boss fight? Maybe a rhyming prophecy or a cache of magic weapons coming into play? Heck, if you really want your character to have a romantic interest, this is the place to put it. Literally anything here is better than nothing since it gives us something to work with. Don't be shy.

1.) Do go ahead and call me Faenwen or just Fae if you like.

2.) I'm looking to join some detailed RPs, so I'm leaning toward that.

3.) Definitely agree with medieval setting...not totally fantastical, though. This sounds like a good RP to be influenced more by our world, maybe sort of Greek-y? But hey if you wanna throw some elves in there, whatever.

4.) Now when I was reading this I was reminded of a character I came up with once upon a time for an original work...She was a knight in a king's vanguard. She was destined from birth to become some kind of divine being (not a goddess but close). But to ascend she had to sacrifice herself in some great battle to save the world. Thing is she has feelings for the king (oh shit) and becomes really ashamed of it. Heat of battle, she is about to sacrifice herself by throwing herself into some kind of portal that summons evil creatures in order to close it. Then she sees that the king is about to be delivered a death blow, and she throws herself in front of him instead. Doesn't become divine, but saves her love. Wew. He doesn't even know how she felt. Wew. Plot hole because now the creatures from the portal can kill the king instead. Wew.

Anyway

5.) Holy crap just got an idea. What if the heros can't return to heaven after they enter the mortal plane? Or after their mission is done, they cease to exist? ((Oh and then the mortals get all poetic and be like "They exist in our stories blah blah blah sacrifice blah blah praise the heroes.".)) Wow I guess I'm really into self-sacrifice. I want to see some peeps dying for the greater good. I know I've got some more ideas waiting for me back there in my head...but my alerts are really bothering me right now so to be continued....

Nice to see some interest stirring up! Happy for both of y'all's posts. ^^

Fae, I'm totally down for some Greek influences. Having all of our characters be from fairly close geographic locations and maybe even culture would be a definite advantage, since we could focus the fight a little more instead of having everyone being concerned about their own people. I was also imagining something like the nonexistence issue, where they're banned from one/all of the heavens and, if we do indeed finish up the problem of the battle for the mortal plane, we can then wrap things up by having them struggle to come to terms with what this means for the rest/en of their existences. Self-sacrifice will very much be a theme in this, since they're literally giving up heaven to come back to the world!

Nice nice. Maybe in the end they vow to start some kind of guild..and then there can be a sequel ^-^ As in, after the battle the heroes use the rest of their time on our plane to take care of serious baddies. But that's thinking way ahead.

War! I'd really be interested in a war RP, considered I haven't done that yet. Maybe the heroes are serving as some kind of spec ops force, taking down serious threats in the opposing armies. (See "Giant Ass Ogres Destroying Cities".) We could implement the Greek influence by giving the cities a patron god/goddess. And that god/goddess bestows them with a gift when they save the city. ¡Uno puncto de la trama! Wew!

Woops forgot to mention that my char would feel hella shameful over her actions. She feels like she doesn't belong in heaven, having failed at her one true task in life. Constantly worried about her unworthiness. But I mean that's my deal, just posting it here so I don't forget when the time comes.

Me gusta tambien! I think all of those ideas could be implemented quite nicely. A spec ops force would let us have enough battle and strategy scenes both, while keeping our characters in a tight-knit group so that interaction is easy. And then the last city they liberate could be Laythe's, who is not exactly thrilled to see them again, even if they are total world-saving badasses.

Ah yisss and then she's like, "Yo nice job here guys you've proven yet again what great heroes you are. So umm...I guess that means you're super heroes? And you know how it is, my heaven is for heroes, not super heroes. I mean you don't wanna go back there do you? Nah, here's my reward for you. You get to stay on the mortal plane forever! Peace!"

And in between cities there could be minor encounters. Oh but they only seem like minor encounters, when they turn out to be the super-deep-creeping plot points. In the end they point to the reason that Hell was opened up to the mortal plane, and what must be done to close it up again. Maybe here the heroes give up their immortality as dead peeps...and when they die next, they die for real? If they do make the guild and there is a sequel, it would explain why they wouldn't be in it.

Throw in some other actual minor encounters so the plot isn't a dead pattern.

But how to pull it off? Hmm...these minor encounters should probably involve more divine stuff. Like an emissary for one of heaven's generals telling them not to go down a path. What's down the path? Secrets...

I'm digging it a lot! I think we can incorporate most of this. ^^ Now, to find some more people who are interested... I would really like to have at least four of us in total, but anywhere between three and six should be a good number. Once we get another, we can keep discussing this for sure, I just don't want anyone to feel like they're getting left behind in the plotting convo!

Alright, I'll wind it down for tonight. I think that's about it for me anyway. I do know that feeling when I see a long convo in a thread...kinda intimidating. Makes you scared to join in xD

Didn't know I had to answer that 12345 stuff.

I'll do that now...

  1. TurtleGod, if you would.
  2. Considering how it could be, I don't really have anything to say. It could be a nice casual roleplay or a detailed one that takes up your almost every moment because you have to post a lot of thoughtful things.
  3. I think it should be somewhere in medieval, just so that knights are acceptable and assassins are acceptable in this time period. If it was modern then you'd have people sitting in the park eating popcorn while an epic battle ensues... Which might actually work...
  4. I'd want to be a scout, a recon, anything that needs stealth, stealing info, and quick, light attacks.
  5. A floating food of some kind that has a special ability. A mortal that follows the heroes everywhere they go, like an annoying fan. An angry mob. A flash mob. IMPALEMENT.

Oooo, Greatly interested!

1) I'd prefer to be called
Wisp, Oh and it would be wonderful if you could avoid using anything gender specific when referring to me. Ya know they, their and all that.

2) Personally I always go for detailed Rps, They tend to have much more potential and unlike most Casual-Simple Rp's rarely if ever leave people out because 50 posts were made.

3) Hmph I would say something in-between, With a few technologies here and there but things such as Knights existing.

4) Oooooo I definitely have a character idea in the stores waiting for something like this. Much like Fae's he was going to ascend into a god like being but ended up messing it up in some way, however his power was
nearly on par with said Divine like beings. He's very magic orientated and doesn't exactly lean towards any specific branch of magic, however as mentioned earlier he's incredibly powerful in terms of magical ability and is quite high among the ladder of power, course he's severely lacking in terms of physical confrontation, So consider him a glass cannon type of guy. As such he'd mainly rely on his Intelligence , Traps & obviously spells to take out an enemy whilst also utilizing some sort of Magical beast every now and then.

5) Might sound a bit cliché but I'd love for them to end up encountering a group similar to their's but have an entirely opposite agenda, Forcing them to fight. By similar I also means in terms of power as well, So they'd have to end up relying on something totally uncalled for to get out of the situation.

Now that you mention it, detailed roleplays don't progress that much because they have to make big posts, while a casual roleplay might have two people continuously replying and you come back after a day with tons of alerts and it was a bit of plot development but mainly just people speaking.

*nods in agreement*

Fantastic, both of you! I think we can finalize things now; I'll get the thread up and running tonight but newcomers will still be welcome for a bit. Looks like it will be a detailed RP in a medieval setting, though both of those categories will be pretty loosely defined and we can be flexible.

TurtleGod, I'm not exactly sure what you have in mind for the food, but it does sound interesting. Maybe something smuggled from Heaven? As for the fan, if someone's willing to play the character I wouldn't be opposed. Angry mob, sure. Flash mob, probably not.

Wisp, thanks for the heads-up. That's exactly why I ask. ^^ And I love the idea of them meeting their opposite numbers from the forces of Hell- all the risen villains, escaped from Hell and wreaking havoc on the mortal plane. They even could have been the ones to disturb the natural order in the first place, opening the gates in their own rush for freedom. Parallelism is a beautiful thing.

I never really thought about the flash mob, but now that I think about it, it'd be funny, albeit unneeded.

Imagine knights storming into battle against samurai and then peasants randomly start dancing before they clash weapons. Then the mob gets executed, and both parties have a peace treaty.

I imagine a graham cracker, levitating in a cave.

A banana with a cape, a superhero.

Maybe they could be mutations? Part of a science experiment? A new birth defect?

  1. I not sure if I can be called anything other than Newtype so Newtype is most preferable
  2. I'd say I do prefer casual RP's I find them easier to join and easier to continue because the posts aren't too big or too small.
  3. I'd say Medieval so Knights and other blade wielding warrios aren't so obsolete or maybe a mix of modern and medieval
  4. My character idea is maybe either a Knight or similar armored warrior that specializes in esoteric lightning or a Ninja bad ass that uses chi to lay down some ninja awesomeness. Another Idea is the group's straight forward thinking muscle bound greatsword user who at a certain point of power release because a berserker.
  5. I was thinking the group is trying to get the remaining armies to rally around them and be lead but first they need to inspire them through dealing the demons some real damage then they lead the charge in epic full out war against the demons.

That makes sense, but it really depends on the post quota.

The post quota can be three sentences, or six.

The post quote can be three paragraphs (six sentences in each) or six paragraphs (three sentences in each).

My eyes have been opened to why Casual RPs are easy (ish) to continue and why Detailed RPs are easy (ish) to continue.

sorry my alerts are trash xD

so...did i hear adoring fan?

Interested, If you'd take me if course!

1) I'd refer to be called Quasar.

2) I'm a fan of detailed, Much like Wisp said & because It tends to add more to the character.

3) Medieval or maybe a bit later, So we can incorporate Knights & Stuff.

4) For my Character Idea I have two in mind. My first would be a front line Knight like character with a massive Greatsword, Who Incorporates the "Fight fire with fire" type of concept and Utilizes Dark magic against the Demons. So somewhat like a Spell sword in a way. My Second would be similar but instead they would Utilize Holy like magic whilst wielding a massive Spear, being fairly agile as well. I'm more inclined to go with the latter, mainly because that Character is more built up in my Head. Also just a side note that they're both noticeably tall. < _ <

5) Hmph I don't have anything really, Maybe a large boss fight against an incredibly strong demon or something.
