Over a thousand years ago mankind marked the end of their global civilization with a large-scale nuclear assault across the entire world. Their targets were not one another, rather something much worse and harder to understand than even the complexities of the human psyche. The decades leading up to the fall of man's greatest weapons were a time filled with strife and woe, wars were all over the planet, political tension had spread around the world and economic strain was beginning to take hold. nearly everyone could feel something big was coming just over the horizon, but none were ready for what would come, how could they be? The real turbulence began when people started falling into coma's all across the world seemingly without warning. Scientists and doctors reeled as they put all they could into finding this solution, it wasn't the worst thing anyone had ever seen, after all they were looking at less than fifty thousand cases worldwide. These unfortunate patients were transferred to five different facilities across the United States and Europe called Dream centers where they would be monitored and treated to the best of the world's medical abilities. Unfortunately, things would begin to get weird shortly after this, no viral matter or even antibodies were found to indicate any kind of catalyst or starting point for this coma. It didn't seem contagious and the only apparent measurable change in those in the coma was the production of a strange never before seen brainwave that could be measured but not recreated. The weirdness mentioned began first in Colorado, where a large field between two towns developed a strange gravitational anomaly that allowed people from these towns to fly between them. Then three days later in London the entire city suddenly could read one another's thoughts and chaos quickly erupted with multiple riots and a declaration of martial law being instituted the final great anomaly occurred in Japan when suddenly and without warning half of the island nation seemed to just vanish from the face of the earth leaving an unnaturally deep ocean in its place. the only thing tying these anomalies to one another was the strange brainwaves coming off of the dreamers in their comatose state. with the threat presented by these unfortunate people looming the world's leaders made the hard decision to sacrifice these comatose people for the sake of the world after all if half of Japan could vanish what's to say half the world couldn't follow? with that the orders to euthanize the coma patients were sent to each dreamer facility and they began to follow the orders. In four of the five facilities chemicals were introduced to the coma patients that caused their bodily functions to cease and in less than 3 hours almost 40,000 people were put to death for the threat they presented the world...but that threat was far from over.

The fifth dreamer facility did not euthanize their dreamers, instead for a reason unknown to the rest of the world the director put the lockdown protocols in place and leapt from the rooftop taking with him the codes to reopen the heavy doors. as if to make his last act permanent an anomaly engulfed the last facility severing the flow of time within thirty meters of the building and preventing any efforts to enter the facility. the rest of humanity wouldn't have had the time to investigate this even without the chrono lock anomaly. as it turned out they had bigger fish to fry as the anomaly's had become far more dangerous. rifts were opening all across the planet unleashing horrific nightmare creatures that would turn cities into their nests and spread like an inexorable tide across the world. Mankind fought with pride, honor, and an admirable resolve. However even as we expended all the fuel, bullets, and blood we could it didn't seem to slow the coming tide of maddening beasts. When all seemed lost mankind decided they would go out with a bang rather than a whimper. the remaining world leaders that could unleashed a global nuclear assault engulfing the world in nuclear fire and with that the civilization that humanity had built over the coarse of all recorded history crumbled and fell dark. Yet the beasts that had taken our world from us remained, and what few survivors there were fled into the wilderness to find sanctuary where they could.

The survivors would find a harsh and unforgiving world, only the cruel, resourceful, or strong would survive the madness. Whatever ammunition and resources that weren't expended or atomized in the nuclear hellfire would be scrounged up and consumed in the coming decades. most people didn't have a clue how to survive and many more perished without even becoming monster food. Those who could tough it out eventually found places they could hide like caves and goat paths along cliff sides. many made attempts to rebuild the worlds they once knew but none would succeed, the electromagnetic pulses from the nuclear holocaust fried electrical systems and made most technology nonfunctional, with the only shielded and or hardline technology being located in cities or army bases which were flooded with rift beasts. Most would simply find safe haven from these beasts and began to once again learn how to harness the bounty of nature. these people would thrive and go on to teach their children who would refine, perfect, and pass on this knowledge to their own children, who would do the same until eventually the survivors would get enough numbers and resources to become more than wandering nomadic hunters.

Over one thousand years would pass and with time the technological wonders and even ruins of mankind's once great civilization would fade, shortly behind this was the memory of such. From the survivors tribes would grow in the spaces between the ruinous heaps that used to be cities now only recognizable as nests for the largest and most dangerous of creatures, among these tribes were the Nogha. from the Nogha myths and legends about a golden age of man when we controlled the elements and even spoke with the stars began to spring up, the beasts and monsters begun to be recognized as the natural world, and tales of mankind's self-destruction were tied to its struggle against these beasts, the men of old were considered arrogant and prideful thinking they could command the unfathomable powers that be. Clearly nature had grown tired of this hubris and decided to humble mankind. The Nogha belief was backed by a nearly religious zeal which was then confirmed in their eyes nearly a century ago when the first adepts and mystics began to be born. Now in the present day the number of Adepts and Mystics in the tribe has grown to nearly ten percent, and their great abilities have allowed the Nogha to rapidly expand, pushing back the aggressive bulk mastiff population, while expanding their limited agriculture such as crops and herds across the Mohave. Yet ld rumors of other people and strange creatures that seemed unnatural to their area have persisted in the minds of young and old for generations and the ease with which the Nogha have expanded has built up their confidence and allowed for a healthy curiosity to develop. Desiring to know of the surrounding lands, meet neighbors, or gain warning of potential threats the elders of the Nogha have decided to put together team of pathfinders, all of whom will adepts and mystics. four teams will be made and each will wander in a different direction away from their canyon home territory. what they will find in this journey is anyone's guess, and arguably what our very story is about.
