The City Between Worlds -- Lore

IMG-8853.jpg
Tessellatia
The apex of a thousand worlds, Tessellatia acts as a hub for any and all dimensional travel. It’s a structured as a walled city divided into three sections: the Rim, the Spokes, and the Axle. A mysterious figure known only as “Panopticon” oversees the entirety of the city, though most laws and policies are decided by The Council. Due to its position as the center of the multiverse, it boasts a unique and thriving population. From humans, elves, robots, sentient dinosaurs, catgirls, and more; many call Tessellatia home.

The Rim

The outermost section of Tessellatia. The Rim is often considered the most dangerous part of the city due to its lawless nature. Gangs and warring factions rule over fluctuating territories; most citizens often turn to theft or crime just to simply survive.

The Spokes

IMG_8855.png

The largest portion of the city and where most denizens live. The Spokes can be further divided into four quadrants: Blue, Red, Black, and White.

IMG-2706.png

The Blue District

arnaud-imobersteg-neokowloon-fullai-c5.jpg
The business district where most of the major corporations and white-collar workers reside. Most of the buildings here are chrome and neon high-rises, with the largest belonging to the Drake Corporation. The Blue district is ran by CEO and Councilman, Ryu Mizuiro.

The Red District[/CE4R]

The entertainment district. It's a constantly changing landscape of flashing lights, music, and fashion. The flashiest building on the strip is Club Nix, a bustling nightclub and home to the illustrious Councilwoman and celebrity, Ignacia Pavão.

IMG-2706.png

The White District

The industrial sector of Tessellatia. Warehouses, factories, and construction zones make up most of this district, and it boasts the most efficient transport system in the city. It's run by Councilman Bai Hu.

IMG-2706.png

The Black District

The academic district. Several large universities call the Black District their home, as well as research firms, hospitals, and laboratories. New developments in technology and science stem from this ring, with most discoveries led by scientist and councilman Blake Torte.

The Axle

The center of Tessellatia. This is where the city’s best and brightest live, as well as the location of The Metro. At the center is the Spire, where Panopticon oversees most of the city’s goings on and the Council makes their decisions.

IMG-2706.png

Notable Locations:
The Metro

james-nguyen-overview-002-01-beauty.jpg
A multidimensional train station that rests at the heart of the city. All (legal) interdimensional travel takes place here. Travelers typically leave and arrive through trains that cross through portals. Security is fairly tight here, with Travelers expected to have tickets and identification.
The Spire

The central most building of Tessellatia; the Spire is an impossibly tall tower that stretches into the sky. Council members typically meet here every so often to address the affairs of the city. At the very peak of the tower is Panopticon.

Panopticon

IMG-2706.png

Few know who -- or what -- Panopticon is. Rumor has it that they're the original founder of the city, whose body was immortalized and trapped at the top of the spire. Others whisper of more devious purposes, that they're simply controlling the city itself. What is known is that Panopticon sits at the top of The Spire, has close ties with each of the council members, and has eyes on the entirety of the city.

Tessellatia is a city united in chaos but divided in ideals. Several factions operate throughout Tessellatia, from gangs in The Rim to influential oligarchical councils.

IMG-2706.png

Notable Factions:
Department of Interdimensional Affairs (D.I.A.)

An officially sanctioned federal organization whose main job is to monitor, control, and protect the city from Interdimensional threats. This includes making sure that the Metro correctly delivers people to the correct universe, that no illegal portals are opened, and that any unregistered entities are found quickly. They’re the general lawkeeping force for the city. The head of the DIA is Chief T. G. Claws.
The Renegade Bastards

A loose collection of anarchists and troublemakers located in The Rim. Although they don’t have a true leader, they’re United in their goal of causing havoc within the city. Members of this organization can be identified by a symbol the letters ‘RB’ with a crown.
Church of the Steel God

A newly risen religious order (cult) that believes that Panopticon is a false god. Rather, the real ruler of the city is a slumbering monstrosity of flesh and machine, sleeping at the top of the Spire, that they call “The Steel God”. Though the cult’s popularity has waned, there’s been a resurgence with a mysterious new “prophet” who calls herself “Motherboard”.
The Anti Wayfarer Association (A.W.A.)

An organization that establishes themselves as being against portal travel, magic, and non-humanoid entities. They believe that the introduction of wild and unknown entities/magic is a danger to society, and its more extreme members often target non-humanoids and magic casters as a result.
The Family

An organized crime syndicate responsible for funneling drugs, unregistered entities, and weapons into the city. Despite not being blood related, the heads of this organization go by the following monikers: “Father”, “Mother”, “Grandma”, “Sister”, “Brother”, and “Baby”.
The Liberation Brigade

An antiauthoritarian group dedicated to the ideals of freedom, creativity, and individualism. The Liberation Brigade is opposed to the limitations set in place by the DIA and The Council, advocating instead for freedom of Interdimensional travel and looser regulations. They are in direct opposition to the AWA.

A mysterious virus that’s begun to spread throughout the Rim. While infection rates remain low, the results are nonetheless catastrophic. The virus spreads through physical contact or exposure to the bodily fluids of an infected host. The illness enters the following stages over the course of seven days:

Stage 1: Host begins to exhibit behavioral changes. Mental state becomes “fuzzy” as the host becomes more disoriented; mood swings become more drastic with some reporting complete personality changes.
Stage 2: Host experiences strange numbing sensations in the extremities. Sensation has been reported to feel like “a thousand needles” or “static”.
Stage 3: Physical changes begin to take place. An strange glitch-like effect becomes visible on the body; limbs may become contorted with extra joints or facial features occasionally forming. Mutations begin to take place and bodily fluids are replaced with a hazardous black ichor.
Stage 4: Mortality rate is 100%. The host mutates into a monstrous form of themselves, exhibiting enhanced or even new abilities. Any and all sense of self is lost. Terminate immediately.

Hypnopompic Activator

b50359b75321a6d929eee391283d0219.jpg
IMG-2706.png

Also known as “Hypno”, “Activator”, or “The Wake”. A new drug that’s been circulating throughout the Rim and even some external portions of the Spokes. It takes the form of a black and red liquid that can be injected directly into the veins. It enhances the user’s mental, physical, arcane, and psychic capabilities — at the cost of their humanity. The drug makes the user more susceptible to Corruption, with some active users developing symptoms twice as quickly as nonusers.
