"Growf!"
A feudal kingdom was being terrorized by a 400-year-old dragon. To appease the creature, the King offered virgin girls selected by lottery twice a year.
His daughter, the Princess, is shocked when she hears a rumor that the lottery was rigged; it excluded her name and those who were rich enough to bribe the king into disqualifying their children. Her father was unable to lie convincingly when she confronted him over this.
The Princess rigged the draw so that only her name could be chosen. Consequently, the King begged his knights to save her, but they refused. To do so again would only stir the dragon to greater anger. The Princess was determined to make amends for all the girls whose names have been chosen in the past; she descended into the dragon's cave and to her death.
Only she didn’t die. A single man had entered the cave ahead of her. He wore the armor of a knight. But he lacked the belt of either knight or squire. He had the frame of a mighty knight, standing over 6 and a half feet tall. He was armed with a spear forged of the strongest metal and carried a shield made from dragon scales. He saved her first from the newborn offspring of the Dragon who had already tried to chew on her.
Her savior killed the dragon. He then carried her home after treating her wounds. He never spoke, except with a gruff, hoarse, Batman-like voice. Even then he had little to say. And he most definitely never gave his name.
In the wake of the Dragon’s death things have only gotten worse. Now there are more than one dragon ravaging the countryside - small, younger dragons. Dragons are, as you know, territorial. Now the other dragons are fighting over territory.
