The day was off to a rather normal start for Momiji Sohma. The blond-haired teenager sat in the classroom, listening as the teacher spoke. They were receiving some kind of group project, where they had to research a significant historical moment with a partner. Some of his fellow students didn’t seem very happy when the teacher announced that she would be picking their partners. Momiji got along well with many in the class, so he wasn’t too concerned.

Really, he was eager to work with someone else. Momiji liked getting to know new people. It wasn’t easy being a member of the Sohma family, especially if you were one of the cursed members. So, Momiji liked to get to know people outside of his family.

As the teacher listed off partners, Momiji listened attentively. Soon, his name an another’s was called. “Sohma, Momiji and Komatsu, Akari.” Upon hearing that he would be working with Akari Komatsu, Momiji’s brown eyes scanned the classroom until they landed on the light-haired girl. Momiji flashed a warm smile in her direction before setting his gaze back on their teacher. He sat quietly as the teacher finished speaking, telling them to get with their partners.

Several people in the classroom stood, moving to approach their partners. Momiji did the same. Approaching Akari, he smiled cheerfully at her. “Hello, Komatsu-chan! Looks like we’re working together! I’m sure we’ll have a lot of fun,” he remarked as he sat down in the desk by her. Momiji didn’t care what topic they did for their project, as long as they both found it interesting and enjoyed studying it.

Hitomi Nakamura walked down the quiet hallway towards the student council room. Today she was officially meeting the rest of the student council. She had seem them all around the school before, like most of her fellow students. However, she hadn’t spoken to many of them very much. The one she had spoken to the most had been Kakeru Manabe.

At first, Hitomi wasn’t going to join the student council. Between school and helping to care for her brother, she wasn’t sure if she’d have the time. But, after some convincing from some of her friends, Hitomi finally decided to join. Now here she was, on her way to her first meeting with them. She felt a little nervous about meeting so many new people at once.

Reaching the door to the classroom, Hitomi paused for a moment to try and calm her nerves. Then, she opened the door. All five members were in the room. Kakeru Manabe, Naohito Sakuragi, Kimi Toudou, Machi Kuragi, and the student council president, Yuki Sohma. Hitomi recognized all of them.

Offering a smile, Hitomi bowed to the group in greeting. “Hello, everyone. I’m Hitomi Nakamura. I’m one of the new secretaries,” she explained, feeling someone awkward at having so many people looking at her at once.

Kakeru was the first to greet her. “Welcome! Come sit with us,” Kakeru said with a smile, “We were actually just about to start discussing some things, so you came at the right time.” Hitomi walked over join the others, nodding to the others in greeting. Kimi nodded back, smiling brightly.

Akari Komatsu was daydreaming again. This time she’d been wondering what would happen if she was able to fly through the sky and sit on the clouds to watch the stars. It was a lovely little daydream—unfortunately, it also meant she nearly missed her teacher’s explanation about their partner project. A certain historical moment, huh? Well, she did like history well enough, but that also meant the decision would be a hard one, especially if she was working on something else.

Although Akari was easily able to befriend her classmates, she was often isolated due to her frequent daydreams. She hoped she would be able to focus long enough with her partner so that she wouldn’t cause them any problems. Hopefully, it wouldn’t be any of her classmates who were prone to teasing her for never really paying attention.

She sat up straighter when she heard her name and her partner’s name. Momiji Sohma? Glancing behind her, she caught the smile he sent her way, and she couldn’t help but smile back. For the most part, she didn’t know him, though she agreed with the rest of the girls in her class that he was nice. It looked like she would actually get to interact with him for once. Maybe she’d ask why he wore the girls’ uniform instead of the boys’…

The rest of the class moved to sit with their partners, and Momiji sat in the desk beside her. With a small grin, Akari nodded. “Hello, Sohma-san. I hope we’ll have fun, too.” It was refreshing to say something like that—on most group projects, Akari’s partners had only wanted to solely focus on the work, but it looked like she and Momiji would work well together. This was already going better than she could have expected. “Um… is there any particular period you want to focus on? I might have a few ideas, but I wanted to see if you had a preference first…” She absentmindedly doodled on a sheet of paper as she waited for his answer, as she was wont to do.

Yuki Sohma may or may not have forgotten that they were greeting a new member of the student council today. He had been entirely preoccupied with the mess the previous president had left for him to clean up, not to mention all the mess Kakeru left on a daily basis. He sighed as he once again straightened up the area set aside for his vice president, who was, no surprise, sleeping again.

Kakeru sat up as the door opened to reveal their new member. Yuki politely smiled at the girl, Hitomi, while Naohito simply scoffed. “Come on, Sakuragi. We should be welcoming Nakamura-san.” He turned to the new secretary and bowed in return. “Welcome to the student council, Nakamura-san. It’s lovely to have you here.”

As always, Kakeru was the first to greet Hitomi, inviting her in. Kimi was already trying to befriend her, but Machi was characteristically silent. As Kakeru invited her in, Yuki sent him a sarcastic look and a raised eyebrow. “Yes, we were attempting to discuss some important matters, and you were sleeping.” He rolled his eyes as Kakeru pouted in his direction.

“Anyway, now that Nakamura-san is here… Some of the clubs are already asking for decisions regarding the school festival. Does anybody have any thoughts as to what our guidelines for their separate stands should be?”
