Fantasy Department of Defense Against the Supernatural

Allerio was at his place, practicing archery, hitting the bullsye on multiple targets at almost the same time. His magical bow was extraordinary. Subsonic magical arrows, intinite supply, incredible durability, extremely high efficiency. If it had one flaw, it would have been that the arrows, while disappearing 1 minute after hitting the target, still left residual magical energy for quite a while. But the high elf didn't particularly care. He didn't belive such an element would be crucial in determining who the masked vigilante was.

Maddox went back to the lab to look at the evidence at hand. Nothing more than Magic residue from the arrow, something that almost every spell ever left behind. Maddox wasn't a dumbass though. Upon looking at the camera, he saw an arrow fly out and hit the victim. This person was a vigilante, taking street justice into his own hand. The victim had jacked the woman's purse.

He cycled through every weapon that could release that sort of magic arrow. It eliminated every gun and sword weapon. It eliminated any sort of technology. All there was were magic longbows and magic crossbows.

Maddox took a look at the magic residue and duplicated it to test it. Upon pouring other magic residue into it, he saw that in this case, it was Holy Magic residue. It attracted other Holy Magic and reacted strongly to Dark Magic residue. The database eliminated any weapon that wasn't Dark or Holy. So that left Holy and Dark Bows, which were many. No worries though

Piper nodded and listened to what Greyston told her before turning back to Luke. Galleytrot had mumbled something at the boy about needing smaller umbrellas before following his companion, but it would be a lie to say that she was paying attention to what the strange man was saying. She also felt that there wasn't much more to do at this site; the tapestry would indeed be much more productive at this point than a room. She looked around more anyway, but didn't find anything else of any use. "Cross, if you're done here, I'd like to go back to look at that tapestry again, maybe with some insight from one of our specialists."

Sanja leaned around the corner when she heard Alex call for her. "Yeah? You need something?" She ducked out of her workspace and went to meet her friend.

Aidan shrugged at Seraphina and began working on the coffees. "I'm more suited for deskwork than the field," he told her a bit dismissively. He was beginning to wonder how long he'd be on desk duty though; it seemed to him as if things were getting a bit chaotic recently and he might actually be needed to work with the agents.

Alex smiles at his best friend and coworker as he offered her a brown travel mug featuring gold-coloured gears interlocking around it. There was illusionary magic applied that made the gears turn one way when the drink inside was hot, and another when it was cold. Based on their rotation, Alex had brought her something hot.

"Hey, good morning! How are you? Have you seen the new intern around? The one who was supposed to start today? I'm supposed to give her a tour when she gets here and then someone else gets to give her all of the introductory shpheals, but I can't find her." Alex spoke somewhat quickly, something he often did when he was nervous or concerned. In this case it was equal parts that he couldn't find the new girl and that it may reflect poorly on his performance. After a breath, he finished by asking, "Can you help? Are you busy?"

Liliana finished cleaning out her inbox and organising the important emails into neat folders for quick and easy reference in the future. With a sigh she glanced around the department. Most people had things to do today it seemed. Briefly she considered joining Maddox on the vigilante case, but last time she worked on it, she got nowhere. Sure she found where the assailant attacked from, and could tell it was an arrow, but neither of these things were terribly useful, anyway.

"I can't believe I'm gonna be late on my first day!", Vince groaned as he sank into the seat in the back of the cab as they pulled up to a red lght. The driver turned his head and gave him a curious yet rude look, Vince shot a worried look back at him in response.

"Get out of my cab, I heard you mumbling about being short for the fare earlier", the driver said in a think middle-eastern accent. His skin was bronze and he had a few beads of sweat falling down his forehead and disappearing into his thick eyebrows. Vince groaned quietly and slid back into the seat, unsure of what to do.

"Can you just maybe uh let this slide..?", Vince asked uncertainly, smiling awkwardly as the man glared a bit before turning and facing the road.

"You got lucky kid", the man said as the traffic light changed to green and they drove off to the station.

~~

As the cab pulled up, Vince thanked his driver and exited the vehicle with his belongings in hand. He caught a glimpse of himself in the reflection of the window as he turned to close the car door. He looked good, and he was happy that he did. As Vince straightened his tie, the cab drove off splattering mud onto his white button up and his jeans. His eyes widened as he let out a defeated sigh, there was nothing he could do now. He turned and walked away from the curb, heading for the entrance of the Department of Defense. He was extremely excited, it was obvious; but, he was a bit disappointed his clothes were ruined. Not many seemed to notice Vince, that's what he thought at least. Truth is, almost everybody ends up looking at him, some just stare. But to Vince, he thought he was pretty average looking, but that simply wasn't the case. Vince came up to the front desk, waiting to see if anyone could help him. He would probably need to initiate first contact.

One thing would be immediately noticeable once one entered the department building: someone spared no expense in it's building or maintenence. The interior was about as spotless as one could expect a used building to be. The main entry seemed a bit like a hotel with a large desk placed in the center with a hall to either side that presumably met on the other side of the desk. To one side, in front of the desk, was a sleek, modern fireplace that wasn't currently in use. Scattered around it were black and grey chairs and couches. The other side of the entry area was symmetrical, but rather than a fireplace, the focus of that side was a large, curved TV running a news station with subtitles.

At the desk was the Department's secretary- the first and only of her kind. She had been developed at the department by some of the researchers to serve as the ultimate secretary. Iris had shined skin that tried to approximate some sort of human tone, but was too pink to be terribly convincing. Her synthetic hair fell just to her shoulders in a deep black colour and her face was human like, but didn't quite match up. It would be understandable if one found she got in the Uncanny Valley where many dolls reside. Regardless, she was functional, and undoubtably a good place to start when first coming to the department. She was programmed to be incredibly advanced and was extremely difficult to offend.

@VMGrey

@Hel (Thank you!)

Vince looked around at the interior and noticed how he managed to track mud all the way to the front desk. His flawless grey eyes found the pink skin of the secretary. They examined her for a bit before Vince decided started speaking aloud what he was thinking. "So you're pretty pristine, you remind of a billiard. You know the little cue ball in a game of pool?" Vince said as he smiled widely, admiring the synthetic human woman. He grabbed his things and positioned himself better to be able to have a conversation with her. Vince kept a slight smile as he began to dig through the bag he brought with him. "Here you go doll" Vince said in a charming way as he pulled out a plastic card. It was his ID for his internship, and on it was a perfect picture right next to his name and employee number. He handed it to the secretary and began fishing through his bag once more. This time he pulled out a small notebook and began to take notes on the Department of Defense, ranging from the people walking its floors to the decor. This place was perfect for Vince, it stimulated his mind just to look at it.

Mæja collected herself slowly, stumbling over the rocky shoreline towards her talisman, grasping the wooden carving of a seal she slumped up into a tight ball, breathing heavily. Two trains of thought crossed her mind. 1) Hide the crime. Probably inspired by the morbid shows and CSI dramas she watched on her free time, she was shocked that it even came to mind. 2) Call someone who knew what to do. Picking up her cell phone from her shoulder bag she looked through her contacts. Other than her family in Iceland, she had a secretary from her internship and Alex. A guy she only knew through emails and a single interview. Panic had set in quite some time ago, and now she felt a strange giddy sensation building, like this was some sort of cruel joke.

Her eyes had been adverting the body, but she finally brought herself to look. A young woman was sprawled along her back, black dress tattered, pale skin spattered with copper blood. There is no way I did this, Mæja thought to herself. How could she? Regardless she impulsively hit the dial button, pressing the phone to her ear, waiting for Alex to pick up the phone.

Remus

Black Cat Pat

Remus waited a moment, watching as the A Team made their decision on who would join Remus in his little adventure.  The Black Dog waited with an unexpected amount of excitement.  There was a certain thrill in the unknown, and Remus did not know what to expect of the people who would be joining him, he was looking forward to seeing what cast of characters he would be adventuring with.  Remus had started dancing in place, sashaying his hips from side to side, unable to contain his excitement.  Finally, the two better looking men of the group decided they would join him.  Remus waited for them both to step forward before starting.  The Boy clapped his hands together, and rubbed them as an ever growing grin began to grace his face.  It was time for adventure, and Remus's body was at the ready.

"Okay buddies, welcome to the Remus train of fun!  Choo, choo and what not.  Now, just a few things I would like to get out of the way before we start this, mystical, adventure of ours.  I ask that you keep hands from going over the guard rail on the way down the stairs, safety reasons, and please stay in a single file line behind me as I can't stab you in the back if I am in front of you."  The last part came out in a bit of a mocking tone.  Remus knew that these men had a right to be wary of him, but that was not to say that he didn't find their caution humerus.  It was always funny to Remus when people felt the need to be wary of him.  He did strange things but there was never a real reason to be wary of him.  At least there hasn't been for a long time.

Once the three started walking down the stairs of the apartment building, Remus began walking, very skillfully, down the stairs backwards so he could face the two men.  He began to ramble, talking about this and that, space stations and cat litter, hardly giving either man time to intervene.  Any topic was fair game and Remus was jumping between them willy nilly with no real tangible link, only taking breaks to berate the two men if they stepped out of single file line.

"So babies right, let me tell you once I had to watch this kid, sweet boy, bless his soul, but he was the living devil!  He would take things that didn't belong to him all the time.  Worst part was you never knew it was him, the sneaky dastard!  Me and G-Trot had to take care of the little carpet crapper at one point and let me tell you what.  We would only ever get to the scene of the crime after it was all said and done, and with no proof that the boy stole anything.  So what did we do you ask?  Simple, we had a steak out!  We waited and watched that little bugger, in secret of course, and right as we reached his hand into a jar of candy... BOOM!  I jumped the child and G-trot cuffed him!  And that's the plan for catching our big bad I hope you were paying attention."

Finally the three were outside the building.  Remus took one giant breath of fresh air before sniffing with purpose.  His head began to jerk this way and that in no real pattern as he sniffed the air around him.  What he was sniffing for however, was anyone's guess.  Satisfied after a short bout of sniffing, Remus looked back at his two new partners in crime.

"I can sniff out souls thanks to this damn fine schnoz."  Remus gave his nose two good taps before continuing.  "Our culprit can't be too far, so if I smell a soul being snuffed out then I will gracefully whisk us there.  In the meantime... know any good coffee shops?"  Of course, Remus only explained the long and short of his plan, but he had talked enough and so no real reason to go on any further with his ramblings, for now.

Sanja took the mug, watching the gears for a moment as she listened to alex before looking up at him again as he finished. "Yeah, no problem, I can help," Sanja told him cheerfully. "I bet she'll be here—" that was when Alex's phone started ringing. She leaned back a bit and nodded. "See, look; that's probably her now. Maybe she's running late or got lost."

Sanja could see a visible flinch at the sudden, loud sound of a male voice screaming at the top of his lungs about closing a door. "Right," he said as he fumbled with things in his pocket as he pulled his phone from his pocket and barely got it to his ear, cutting off the singer just before a curse. "Hello, Alexander Swift, chief intern of the Department of Defense speaking. How are you today? Can I help you with anything? ...May I ask who's calling?" he asked the last question just as the person on the other end would be about to answer, remembering that this was likely an important question to ask.

Greyston only half paid attention to what this very strange man was rambling about as they headed down the stairs. He didn't pay too much attention to staying in line, but he didn't stray too far from it, either. Fourty steps down, he started tuning Remus back in and listened to his story.

"You mean to say that you handcuffed a small child for stealing candy?" He asked, turning to the talkative one's companion, who had so far kept fairly quiet as Remus sniffed around.

Iris listened as the boy explained the obvious, i.e. what a billiard was and why he was here. Her facial recognition software allowed her to recognize any being who had been hired in the Department should they approach her and need assistance. She was equipped with a large file of criminals should they walk into the lobby as well. Once he was done talking, Iris responded with a voice that wonderfully mimicked human speech patterns but was slightly off in that each time she would repeat a word the intonation was identical, "Welcome, Vincent. I shall call for miss Naomi Levine. She should be here momentarily to give your tour and orientation. Please have a seat. If you require any nutrients or refreshments, just ask."

Galleytrot was also not really listening to his companion, but by the time the group had gotten down the stairs and Remus had started going on about a kid, he began paying a bit of attention. He looked over at Greyston when the vampire addressed him, shoving his hands in his pockets with a shrug. "I don't remember that one, actually. Wait," he added suddenly, looking up thoughtfully as if he were trying to recall something. He was quiet for several moments before nodding and looking at Greyston again. "Wait, no. I remember parts of that. He's only half making that one up." The stranger had no intention of elaborating any further on the topic.

At the Department Headquarters, Ashlynn Copperfield was in her lab. The blonde scientist was on the phone, moving around to turn mason jars of various sizes in order to read the chalk labels written on them. The whole room looked like a Pinterest board: the shelves were all painted white and every jar and glass bottle was painted or frosted, obscuring the objects inside. "What—? Okay, you already told me he broke his back, so he's going to be put down right? Right. I hoped so. Once you do, if you could get me a couple organs, I'm short on hearts and eyes—" she broke off, stopping with one hand still hovering over one of the jars. "...Oh, I see. Um, I'm not really a veterinarian, and definitely not for wild animals... Well yes, but I made the dog from scratch. I guess I can try, but I don't generally... Well, if it's the spinal column, I think I can fix it. I think I've got plenty of days off built up. Yeah, that'll do. See you then." As she hung up, the strange-looking dog that laid on a bed near the door looked up and her and gave a sharp bark. Ashlynn turned back to her work table with a noticeably disappointed look. She pulled her sweater over her tank top and headed out of the lab, the dog following, and locked the door behind her before heading toward the food court for a quick brunch.

Onyx sat, leaning against an AC unit on a rooftop, quietly sipping his Jack Daniels, Onyx was an enigma himself, when he joined the Department, he refused to give any of his past and no data of him existed on any national database, he's a ghost and he prides himself on it.

Onyx snapped out of the daydream he had entered, his eyes wandered to the nearly empty Jack Daniels bottle in his hand before he sighed"Guess it's time to report" Onyx had been missing for the last 2 months, this was a personal break he'd taken under the cover of a 'Personal Contract', he pulled out his phone, scrolled through his contacts until he got to him, Greyston, Onyx threw the now empty Jack Daniels bottle away before he he activated the contact and his phone auto dialed the number, he brought the phone up to his ear and waited to see if he'd pick up

Mæja listened to the dial tone, the sound drumming in her ear. As she heard Alex speak through the phone her hand began to shake, her lips quivering to the realization that this was not a dream or some joke, it was her reality. "Hey, Alex."  She felt her body shuddered, pausing for a moment. "It is Mæja Ingvadottir. The intern." She began to rub her hand along her leg, only bursting into more tears as she noticed the blood staining her white phone case. "I don't know what happened, but I did something. Or I think I did. There is a body." She pulled the phone away, letting out a small whimper, clutching her brown hair with her free hand. "I am on the beach, there is some jogging path, that one along the Tidal...Basin? God, I don't know. Maybe the Potomac." Taking another breath, head feeling light she dug her nails into her leg, her voice growing serious. "I need you to arrest me." She lay down along the rocky shore, laying the phone to the right of her ear.

"You need to arrest me."

Icarus stepped out of the metro and began to scan his surroundings. He was wearing his classic shemag along with a black hoodie with the sleevs rolled up to elbows and some blacknjogher pants rolled up to his knees. As he walked out of the metro station he arrived at the looks. The looks some people gave when seeing him. Some people have seen robots/ androids so they played no mind. Other haven't and he stuck out like a sore thumb.

As he kept walking he made a clank sound and a small whirring sound from his gears. He's tried hard to dampened it but the money wasn't there for the right parts. Hopefully this new job would help. He was more than qualified of course.

Having the world wide web in your mind allowed him to know anything he deemed worthy to know. That included all aspects of magic, forensics investigation ,hacking, biology, astronomy, an array of different sciences and of course combat.

Icarus approached the building as he stared in wonderment at the name. He was finally here. Entering the building the buzz of employees and civilians alike filled the rooms. Icarus approached the front desk offering his newly received ID card to the clerk.

"I'm supposed to head to the tech lab." Said Icarus ,his voice was set at default which was that of an Australian native. Polls showed itbwas the favorite amongst English speakers.

As the clerk pointed to the lab, Icarus changed the light on his head unit to show a smile. He grabbed his ID and made his way to it.

The currently invisible spaceship was on autopilot. Once it detected Mo, it generated a force field, courtesy of the defensive system activated by Ark-D beforehand. The barrier was not impenetrable, but bypassing it was no easy task.

Meanwhile, Ark-D was in a library, browsing through wikipedia, after its onslaught. Fascinating species, those humans were, but equally bizzare. "This thing about S&M is confusing. The S isn't necessarily stronger, smarter, or faster than the M, yet the M subdues. Is it a means of strenghtening one's body? Must investigate further" was what it thought as it finished reading a certain wikipedia article. Obviously other people looked at it a bit creeped out, and just walked away slowly. They didn't know what sort of creature Ark-D was, but for some reason, they didn't want to know.

Mo walked in wide spaces, keeping his head on a swivel just in case whatever attacked the victim had decided to return to the scene of the crime. He kept his arms out as if feeling for anything that could be clues. Eventually he ran face first into what seemed like an invisible barrier. He shook his head for a moment and looked forward in confusion. He attempted to walk forward again however was pushed backward by an unseen obstacle. He brought a tentative hand up toward the force field, running his palms over the exterior. He pushed forward moderately to no avail, until he shoved his shoulder viciously as hard as he possibly could. Eventually he got the bright idea to take paces backward and rammed himself into it repeatedly.

He sighed and scratched his head. Perhaps this was something that he could not do alone. He walked out into the open and looked out in the park. He hailed a couple of human bystanders, asking for their help in an investigation. Once they accepted he had the 5 of them push on one end of the barrier while he assaulted it on another area. With another plea he managed to gather another 5 so that they could press on an area not far from the other. Between both of the areas where each group pushed Mo let out a flurry of attacks in hopes that different areas of concentration could weaken the barrier.

a softe beeping tone echoed out throughout the desolate nalfaler ship as it drifted softly through space. The beeping of course signaling something important as a room lit up in the belly of the ship. A soft hum starting up as lights came on in a stasis pod room. Having about 20 pods in the room.

IMG_2117.JPG All were empty though but one. The occupied stasis pod lit up as well as thick peices of material came up out of the ground and enclosed around the same capsule before it suddenly was dropped out of the belly of the ship. Rocketing towards earth as its guidance systems kicked in to guide it to her destination which was the nearby forest out of the city. Looking like a comet as she rocketed to earth clearly visible to the surrounding area.

Crashing into  to the ground in a massive blast of dirt rubble and obliterated trees it sat there hissing softly as smoke trailed off the capsule it not opening yet and waiting for contact from earths indigenous life

"To arrest you?!" Alex asked, straightening up and looking at Sanja. "Wait there, don't worry we're on the way. We'll figure out what's happened I promise," he says. He motioned for Sanja to come with him, and turned to head to the parking garage to head towards where  mæje had described.

Greysron continued following the strange dog, allowing his phone to go through to voicemail when it rang.

Onyx frowned when voicemail came up, alas, he decided to leave a message"Hey...Greyston...It's me, Onyx, Just calling to tell you that I'll be at HQ waiting for you. Anyway... Bye" The male put his phone away before getting up and stretching"Right...What direction is HQ again..."And with that, Onyx had began his journey back to HQ

"Barrier receiving damage...damage critical" the spaceship's AI voice resonated.

"Barrier deactivated" with Mo's last hit, the barrier was finally eliminated. The spaceship still remained invisible.

"Initiating secondary defensive protocol"

The second defensive protocol was a high-voltage electric field which covered the very surface of the ship. At the same time, it launched a small missle into the air which seemed to be a homing one. It would go afer Ark-D and inform it that the primary defense protocol was broken.

------------------------------------------

After a short period of time the mini-missle finally reached Ark-D, which made it meet the curious stares of the people around. "Force field was destroyed" was it's message, then it made its way back to the ship. The alien was expressionless and lacked emotion, so it wasn't shocked, nor was it angry. It simply enlarged itself, becoming 300 meters tall. It then enlarged its feet becoming even taller, and made huge steps. Once it reached the forest, it shrunk again.

It would have eventually reached Mo and the rest of the people.

Azure simply listened to what Remus had to say. He walked behind the otherworld creature, remaining silent, alongside Greyston.

Mo smiled to himself once he realized that whatever was stopping them had gave way. He gathered all the townsfolk that helped him, and tried to give them compensation. Most of them declined just happy to help out on a super cool mission from the department, however not everyone had the same idea of rewarding.

They had just began to go their separate ways when the ground began to shake from the footsteps of Ark-D, prompting Mo to order everyone to shatter and look for cover. He pulled out his phone and shot the agents he came with a text message saying to show up ASAP.

The civilians didn't get far, most of them just taking cover behind nearby trees, and some of them too scared and confused to move at all. Sweat drizzled down the side of Mo's cheek, wondering just exactly could he do to keep them safe. He took a deep breath and eventually the shaking stopped. His instincts didn't calm down one bit though, causing him to share an intense gaze with the line of trees to his right.

"Whoever you are come out!" He demanded.

Ark-D eventually reached the place where the ship was, in its normal size, and so did the mini-missle which re-entered it. It looked at the people which where around and analyzed them. Almost all of them were deemed defenseless. It eventually focused its attention on Mo. "Determined gaze, no fear, desire to fight. You are not defenseless" was it's conclusion.

The alien suddenly collapsed into a featureless mass, which expanded on a wide area. 7 gigantic snakes with spikes all around their bodies came out of the black mass, while still remaining connected to it. The Snakes stretched and launched an attack at Mo, opening their maw. The spikes on their bodies stretched as well, and became smaller snakes which also attempted to attack the agent.

Mo felt a lot less determined and fearless on the inside than what he portrayed outwardly, which he would come to regret as the alien began its assault on him. He afterall, was just a normal guy, he couldn't possibly keep up with such an advanced combatant. However this did not splinter his resolve to keep the citizens safe.

Out of pure instinct alone he managed to dodge one of snakes in a leaping barrel roll. "Everyone get out of here! So far he only wants me! Leave!" He pleaded while he did his best to evade another strike. He was caught on the back by one of the smaller snakes, causing him to stumble enough to be caught in the side by one of the large ones.

He huffed and breathed deeply, going into almost a panic. Fighting a human or perhaps a humanoid he could handle, but a giant shapeshifting alien? Doubt slipped into his mind as he struggled to keep up, working on instinct alone.

Galleytrot paused to watch Remus then — at which point, he would get a hit on his plan as another soul appeared.

@Rantos

Sanja frowned, looking at Alex. She too looked surprised and concerned, and immediately took off after her friend to head to the car. She took the driver's seat and pulled out to head toward their destination.

Ark-D wasn't getting much information out of the fight. And since it valued information above all else, it stopped attacking and morphed back into its usual self. It jumped and launched itself towards Mo, engaging in close quarter combat. But it also covered its entire body in spikes, with the exception of the area around its knees.

Mo's senses burst with activity, his instincts telling him to evade the spikes at all costs. He backpedaled swiftly and lunged to the left in an effort to dodge one of the spikes, however he was met quickly with a searing pain on his back. His eyes strayed to the civilians who stood in shock at the battle that was taking place. "Run," he pleaded,"get out of here as fast as you can!" He barrel rolled to the right and huffed in annoyance. Where was his back up? Ark-D doesn't look like he was going to give up any time soon, and Mo didn't really have field operative training. He didn't have much experience with shape-shifting aliens either. He spared the time between a flailing dive to notice a family running away from the park with a little boy in the arms of his fleeing mother, staring at the display with pleading eyes. He was counting on Mo to win. His eyes stayed on the boy for too long however and one of the spikes punched into his gut, causing him to fly a good several feet.

His back hit the ground with a thud as a groan escaped his lips. His jaw clenched and his muscles contracted from the blow, his vision going in and out. Mo coughed and held his abdomen, his breath becoming shallow and panicked. He could feel the presence of Ark-D coming closer to him and his instincts roared for him to get up. He had to make a decision or he will die. He closed his eyes, and his breathing steadied, and his heart rate dropped exponentially.

Fight or Flight.

He slowly managed to pull himself to his feet, however made no initial move toward Ark-D.
