Dragon Riders of Aventador

History: Before Riding[/font]

Aventador, before civilisation, was known as the 'Land of the Beasts'. None knew more than the dragons that had inhabited each part of the large land; ranging from slinking serpents in the deepest of seas to the lightest of bones that hid behind clouds. The drive for civilisation led humans, a foreign species, onto the island, who were seen as nothing more than another food source to the dragons. In a lack of misunderstanding and lack of communication, the two began to take on the offensive towards one another: the dragons were hunted for sport, leather, claws or anything that could even possibly be of use to humans, which prompted attacks on the hunters from all sides.

This back-and-forth rivalry lasted for years upon years, but only worsened when a dragon elder, Obseron, was killed by an ameteur hunter. Angered by the event, the dragons united, killed the hunter, and then declared war upon the entire human race. Due to the lack of communication, the humans were unable to stop such an event, and could only see it through. Over time, the war did not cease; it was worsened with each attack from either nation. The need for a truce only grew more desperate, though either side, too stubborn, seemed to be willing to put down their weapons and step forward to admit to wrong doings.

The truce came in a form of a dragon rider; a human by the name of Doran who unknowingly took in a dragon egg and formed a bond with the grown dragon, and once the dragon had grown, the pair travelled throughout the land to create peace between the races. Both humans and dragons benefitted from the union; dragons learned to speak through telepathy and the humans were allowed to form bonds with the dragons, as did Doran. Aventador fell into a unity of peace between all.

Present Riding
Not all are able to ride, as was Doran. Riders are born, not made; as much as a passion one might have towards dragons and the mythical beings of Aventador, there may not be a bond. This is simply a part of one's soul that allows the being to connect with dragons and allow the animal to connect in return, but is difficult to find and identify; the test is merely being put into an arena with a mass of young dragons and attempting to find a bond between any. This leads to many wounds and hurt youngsters who find no bond, but despite this, there is no other way of determining a rider from any other citizen.

Dragon riders, when chosen, are further required to find their dragon, or, more accurately, search for a dragon to choose them. It may take days, weeks, even years for one to find their dragon and strike a bond with it, but these bonds are ones that last a lifetime. Once a rider passes, a dragon is unable to find another rider, unless it is a rare instance where the rider has broken the bond with the animal, which often leaves it unpredictable and undesirable as a dragon, unless taught to be ridden by a rider once again. It is not all fun and games, though; riders have much responsibility on their shoulders.

While a minority, they are required to attend specific riding school which is adapted to the environmental influences of the dragon and become scholars in their studies, as all dragon riders have been humans with a vast knowledge of life around them with no right or wrong subject to take part in. Originally peacekeepers, they are expected to practise in this, and refrain from fighting if possible, despite how many duels that involve dragon riders and 'fighting to claim the title of the best' had been created while society developed and included the small group of specialities.

The Friction
While Aventador has remained in peace for centuries after the war, a new threat looms in the distance. Talk has risen through the towns of dragon riders seeking their dragons in the Outlands; searching for dark magic and creating a small mass that will ruin Aventador and everything that it has stood for since its renewal. There are a selected few who are being led by a mysterious force, powered by the horrors of dark magic, but the identity is unknown. Is it a dragon seeking its revenge on those who banished it to rot away? A foolish human searching for power? Who will stop it?
