Guardians consist of [2 male and 2 female roles.] They do not have to live in the village (e.g. maybe happened to stumble upon the island when this occurred. Maybe their ancestors used to do this and ran off but then this character came to see the legend and etc.), but it is best that only one character doesn't live in this town and has this ability to see the gods. MUST BE HUMAN ONLY
!!!!!!!
One of these characters must have stumbled upon a shrine behind the waterfall.

C1nltM2.png
Tengu God
Tengu god. He is the protector of the guardians and fights against any bad omen/demons out there to protect human beings. Despite his intimidating look, he tends to take care of the other Gods and human beings, although most of them don't see him. Deep down inside, he's like a mother to them all (lmao). Humans believe that seeing the Tengu god brings great blessings such as the ability to have a family. [MALE, TAKEN BY SIGN]
SPECIAL ABILITIES: Flying & fighting

rPVP3W8.png
Kyubi No Kitsune
The Kyubi No Kitsune is the Nine tails fox. It is believed that the nine tails fox lures men away and take eat their hearts, but for the Kitsune, men always fell in love with her because of her beauty, causing them to be obsessed with those that actually do "see" her. Due to this, her legend makes her look bad, but then men (and women) believed that if they didn't fall for her beauty, they would be able to have good luck in life.
SPECIAL ABILITIES: Changing the weather based on her mood. [FEMALE, OPEN]
Crying = Rain
Happy = Sun
Feeling down = Clouds
Angry = Rain, thunder, and lightning

tM2anUJ.png
Shinigami
The Shinigami's job as a God is to guide those that have passed to their passing to move on and reincarnate into another life. Although this is true, he's seen a lot in his life. With worries that death is always around him, he feels that he is cursed with this job. The people, though, respect the Shinigami because he is the only one who can help the others in the afterworld. People believe that seeing the Shinigami brings Prosperity. [MALE, OPEN]
SPECIAL ABILITIES: Seeing spirits, communicating with the dead

C3bhLzP.png
Enmusubi no Kami
Enmusubi no Kami is the fate god. In order to bring others together with true love, she can see the red strings of fate. Her shrine is the most popular since many couples want to be together. Although sometimes, fate cannot bring them together, the Enmusubi no Kami tries really hard to bring love to everyone. With the people's prayers, they will be able to find true love if they really believe in her and pray for her. [FEMALE, OPEN]
SPECIAL ABILITIES: Seeing red strings of fate (BUT CANNOT SEE RED STRINGS TO THOSE THAT SHE KNOWS), Can see their lifespan.

    MISCELLANEOUS
A sprinkle of mischievous giggles from the children that skipped along down the dirt pathway with the forest by their side. Their little arms flailed up in the sky as the children cried with excitement, hustling away from each other. That's the birth of a human being's emotions... right?
    PERSONALITY
Periodical changes throughout history, I have seen. One does not know a man's taste of despair if they have not experienced it before.
There's little things that Ukita enjoys during his free time. Much of an introvert, he relies more on his inner thoughts and reflection. Ukita likes to focus more on details rather than the big picture since he knows that it's important to never judge someone from the way they look. Ukita looks a bit intimidating based on his words because he doesn't really know how to soften up to anyone, but then sometimes his straightforwardness means that he actually cares for them. Ukita also isn't the greatest at "sharing his feelings" or learning how to read others based on their feelings, which he has a lot of trouble with. He's a bit quiet, but he would only give his input if needed if someone asked for his opinion. In his free time, he actually enjoys people-watching since the humans could not see him. Being that it can be lonely sometimes, though, he finds entertainment in bothering his other shrine buddies.

Name
Yuriko Koizumi

Age
20

Role
Guardian [Female]

DOB
Summer
specifically near the beginning

Personality
At first glance, Yuriko appears to be a simple young woman. She is an outgoing and adventurous ball of energy who constantly seems to have a reason to be happy or excited. And when she isn't happy or excited, she is still being rather emotional, being quite the expressive and sensitive soul. She constantly seems to be finding wonder in everything around her and it is often quite easy to get her riled up and passionate about something. That said, Yuriko can be easily distracted as her energetic mind always seems to be swiftly jumping from one thing to another. Thus, she can act a bit impulsively and be a bit clumsy at times, often too caught up in her own excitement and other emotions alongside her curiosity to truly think things through.

That said, in calmer situations where she allows herself to breathe, Yuriko can be surprisingly intelligent and introspective. She is a dreamer, seeming to always have her head at least partially in the clouds, and while this adds to how easily distracted she can get, it also can lead to her being quite the quick thinker, being rather clever, creative, and imaginative. However, too much being on her mind can cause her to come off as a bit oblivious at times.

Overall, while Yurikoโ€™s energetic nature may come off as overwhelming, she truly is a kind soul with a well-intentioned heart. She desires to help those around her in any way she can, brightening up at every opportunity to assist and potentially connect with someone. Being a strong believer in individuality, Yuriko is especially one to encourage and support most forms of self-expression and stands against those who say otherwise, both hoping to protect and inspire those around her. This can cause Yuriko to be both headstrong and stubborn as well as she adamantly does her best to stay true to herself and doing everything her own way. However, due to Yuriko's determination to march to the beat of her own drum, she often finds that she is an outcast and has become fixated on the idea of finding somewhere she can belong. But after having been the abnormal outcast for so long, Yuriko does have a few insecurities and doubts, finding herself often wondering if she truly can find somewhere where she can fit in. Or if she truly is meant to be alone.

Biography
Born in Kyoto City as the fourth out of five, Yuriko was raised in a busy household, living with her parents, siblings, and grandparents. Her family was middle-class, running a small textile shop in the city which Yuriko helped around in alongside her siblings growing up. However, despite her assistance, Yuriko was regarded as a black sheep of the family. While her siblings followed societal expectations and dedicated themselves to their family with her eldest brother and her older sisters leaving the family for marriage and to find work in nearby factories respectively, Yuriko was a dreamer who evidently had her head in other places as she cared for her family but also wished to do something that made her happy and live out the adventure she has dreamed of. She would spend her free time daydreaming and entertaining the neighborhood with music and fantastical tales and even while working, it was evident her head was still in the clouds, dreaming of living out an adventure in her future. And in turn, she worried her parents as they often got on her case about wasting her youth and being unprepared for the future. And while Yuriko understood her parents' concern, she knew their plans for her future would definitely leave her feeling unhappy and unaccomplished, causing her to often going against them. Thus, arguments between the two parties were frequent in her household with Yuriko often feeling as though her family was always against her.

The only people she seemed truly to get along with within her family were her grandparents and little brother. Her grandfather especially as she often spent nights listening to his tales about the gods of the world and the stories and myths of the land with Yuriko even learning about how her grandfather's own father used to be a guardian only to flee his responsibility due to his aspirations to escape his family's tight grasp on his life but also the love he felt for his wife who was a visiting tourist when they first met. But even then... he often supported her parents' beliefs, believing it was for her own good as he often repeated his own father's words about focusing on what was in front of her rather than distant lands. And in the case of her younger brother, while he fully supported her, Yuriko was seen as a bad influence on him due to her free spirit. A fact Yuriko discovered during a rather large argument with her father when she was 17 when he confronted her about her lack of plans for the future. Shaken by the argument and this revelation while having nothing to refute her father's argument, Yuriko was rendered helpless as her parents begun looking into sending her to work in a factory in hopes that the experience would allow for her to truly mature despite Yuriko's protests. Against this, Yuriko tried to find some alternative. Some way to truly find her calling. And that was when her grandfather approached her secretly one night and reluctantly revealed the location of the island where her great-grandfather was a former guardian, believing it is time that Yuriko does ground herself and focus on the future rather than getting distracted by everything around her but knowing that if she has a chance to become a guardian there, she likely would be happier there.

Thus, running away that night with only some bare essentials (which includes her shamisen) with her parents only left with a note about her plans, Yuriko traveled to the famed island village thanks to the transportation readily available to tourists, finding refuge in the inn and while it took much pleading and convincing, was allowed to be trained to become a guardian in the village, mostly due to the decreasing numbers of guardians in the village. However, there is much stigma around the attainment of her position considering that not only could she be lying but if her grandfather truly fled from his duties as a guardian, then she is connected to a guardian who had committed a dishonorable act and has fallen from grace, framing her in a negative light. The fact that she has similarly run away to escape her parents' own grip on her life does not help much either. Yet... she is doing her best to get by and prove herself.

Other
-Yuriko has a shamisen that she received from her grandmother who also served as her teacher. Over the years, she has grown quite attached to it while becoming quite the musician as she often has it with her and plays it whenever she can.

-While Yuriko's parents do know where she is thanks to her grandfather and the letter she has been writing weekly to her family, they have refused to contact her due to her reckless act of disobedience. This fact has broken Yuriko's heart but she continues being hopeful that one day when she proves herself while doing a job she currently loves, they will accept her as a family once again.

-Yuriko has an intense fear of the uncanny, especially dolls. They just look sometimes so lifelike yet... not at the same time, and this always unnerves her.

-Having grown up working in a textile shop, Yuriko is surprisingly quite the skilled seamstress, having rather good hand-eye coordination. This can be seen in her clothing as no matter how many times she rips it during her shenanigans, she always seems able to fix it. She also seems to love incorporating colorful patterns in her clothing. It's her way of sticking out and reflecting her personality after all.

-While loving all animals, Yuriko is most partial to birds and fish. She always finds them so fascinating, not only because they often take on such beautiful colors and patterns, but also because they are able to explore a world that no human can be able to reach. She envies them and is also quite curious about them because of them, wondering what knowledge they hide and what it would be like to be one... which leads eating fish to be quite an awkward experience for her.

-Height-wise, Yuriko is 5โ€™1.

ELDEST GUARDIAN
Kiyoshi Mitsugi
Age: 30 years
DOB: June 25th
Personality:
Kiyoshi, or Yoshi for short, is well-known for her kindness. She always tends to the needs of others, though it's rare for her to express her own, nor does she like to show sadness or fear to those around her. She'd rather appear strong and optimistic, unwavering despite how she might feel inside. While she is close to the other guardians (or at least some of them), she still feels lonely, both because of her refusal to express her true feelings and thoughts, and because of how long she's been in the village, watching people come and go. She's thought of going elsewhere before, yet she doesn't, too stubborn and dedicated to the Gods to stray.

Although not the smartest, Yoshi does her best to help, in whatever way she can. She isn't very good at giving helpful advice, but she can certainly lend an ear if someone wants to vent, or a shoulder to cry on if they went through something difficult. She's the oldest of the guardians and has been worshiping the guardians the longest, but she is far from the leader type. Honestly, the last thing she wants to do is make any big decisions. She doesn't have the self-confidence to be sure of her choices, especially if there's a chance that things might turn out badly.

Virtues: Compassion, commitment, forgiveness, honesty, patience
Vices: Blandness, cowardice, doubt, falseness, stubbornness
Likes: Painting landscapes & people, feeding the stray cats, seeing others happy, the color sky blue
Dislikes: Cold weather, crying in front of people, being the center of attention, having her routine be interrupted

Biography: (tw for prostitution, death, miscarriage, and depression)
Kiyoshi was born to a single mother in a poor part of Kyoto. In order to make ends meet, her mother would sell her body to willing men, leaving Yoshi in the care of her grandmother and grandfather. They showed her plenty of love, as well as teaching her skills like weaving and cooking. When she was five, however, her mother ended up becoming pregnant by accident. The birth was difficult and the mother ended up dying from blood-loss, but the baby boy managed to pull through. While saddened by the death of their daughter, Yoshi's grandparents would take in her brother, naming him Toyama.

Yoshi herself wasn't ready to accept him, though. She hated him for taking her mother away, which she made apparent by picking on him and pushing him around every chance she got. Her grandparents scolded her for it, of course, but that didn't stop her from doing it behind their backs. The two of them wouldn't get along for most of their childhood, but their one-sided rivalry would mellow out as they became adolescents, though she still held a grudge against him for the passing of their mother.

When she became a young adult, she met a man, Kenko, whom she would fall in love with. The two of them moved in together after having a modest marriage, but when it came to having children, she was apprehensive. The death of her mother still loomed over her mind, which caused fear over becoming pregnant and giving birth. Her husband reassured her, though, and, not wanting to disappoint him or their families, she finally agreed to have his children. Fortune was not on the couple's side, though.

Kiyoshi was rudely awakened one night to stabbing pain and startling amounts of blood โ€” she had miscarried their baby.

Both of them were devastated by the miscarriage, a wedge driven between them by the loss. It would lead to Kenko leaving Yoshi, right when she needed his support the most, and as a result she fell even deeper into depression. After her failure as both a wife and a mother, she saw no reason to go on. That's why she made the decision to leave Kyoto and move elsewhere.

After visiting her grandparents one last time, and finally apologizing to her younger brother for mistreating him, she set out to find a new home. She had heard of the small village, where people would go to try and see the Gods, to get a chance of prosperity, so she figured she would stop by and pay her respects. Maybe the Gods would take pity on the poor shell of a woman. What she didn't expect, though, was to end up face-to-face with a God.

They offered Kiyoshi to stay in the village and become a Guardian. She could stay and find a new purpose in life. With nowhere else to go, she accepted the offer. The rest is history.

Add-ons
> Yoshi is a very good cook. She especially likes hosting dinner at her home for the other Guardians and tourists.
> She keeps in contact with her remaining family, sending them letters once a week. They don't know where she is or what she's doing for work, though.
> While she claims not to have favorites among the strays, there's one black and white one she's grown particularly attached to. Nicknamed Sora, he likes to sit with her out on the engawa, getting scratches behind the ear.

Nuuju
Enmusubi no Kami, Goddess of Fate
Name || Nuuju (a name granted to her from early patronage that remains to this day)
Age || Over 10 centuries old, lost count
Role || Goddess, Enmusubi no Kami
Personality ||
Having existed for many centuries, it goes without saying that some of Nuuju's traits have changed, but her core personality remains. The goddess is compassionate, empathetic, and faithful. She harbors many emotions in her heart, almost like a human. While it can be painful or somber at times, Nuuju embraces different moods to garner better understanding of her patrons.

Overall, Nuuju is known to be an active listener to anyone who asks for her blessings. There's a certain passion that drives the goddess to do her best to brings happiness and peace to others. But over the centuries, she has learned not to become overtly passionate and take everything to heart. While she can accelerate the meeting of those fated to be, the cruel reality of the world the humans exist in has quieted Nuuju's compassion. She has learned to understand that some things may never go the way she wills it to be or tries to push it. There is an unfairness that exists with people. A dark shade that has always been there, but that she tried to ignore at first as a newly formed goddess.

Time has smoothed out the rough edges of a once boisterous, nosy goddess. She had a fiery, brazen side that would tease with human hearts at times but now a more calm, cautious demeanor approaches the strings of fate. Her success on fulfillment of wishes have risen as Nuuju calmed down. With a clearer sight and humbled heart, Nuuju now fights with a cool, passionate fire. This can sometimes make her come across as blunt or rude as she tells things straight, unless it is with young or old souls. Being one of the more popular gods of the village, Nuuju takes pride in her work and revels in any praise she can get. She doesn't try to be obvious with her pleasure, but sometimes it's visible from her posture and tone of voice.
Virtues || Devoted, a great listener, observant, strong-willed
Vice || Greedy, selfish, over-thinks many things, can become easily frustrated
Likes || Animals, laughter, joyous emotions, all types of food even though she doesn't need it, floral life, water
Dislikes || Betrayal, confusion, dark places, weapons
Biography ||
As a goddess, its goes without saying that Nuuju has existed for many eras. Events, memories, and all the details of the past somewhat bleed together for the deity, however, there are always significant timelines that remain on the surface of Nuuju's consciousness, for starters, her banishment from the heavens. While she remembers the stark difference from one realm to another, her memory on why she had been banished has become muddled with what she believes was the reason to the fabricated or added stories that villagers took upon themselves to try and help Nuuju remember. The shock she experienced when she was on the surface of the human world and saw just a field of red strings all weaved through the scenes of the land, is something the goddess could never forget, nor the dreadful shiver of seeing faint numbers hovering around humans. It was a different perspective compared to being up in the heavens. At first, Nuuju was quite hard-headed, strict, and stubborn to enforce her role on the physical grounds of the Earth, but then the kindness of a sweet boy melted her.

He was a calm village boy that adults praised about, friends leaned onto, and kept a certain peace around him and whomever he hung around with. His name was Taiko and he always carried around with him a small, weaved piece of cloth with a beautiful white lotus on it. To this day, Nuuju still has the small cloth affixed into the inside of her robe, a robe that was inspired and designed after Taiko. The village boy piqued Nuuju's interest when he came to ask for her help for not his fate but rather his mom's. While Nuuju had heard of others asking for help for people they romantically love, Taiko had a different approach of helping his maternal figure. She was an acerbic, ill-tempered woman who would take her anger out on Taiko at times. Nuuju couldn't figure out the boy's reasoning for wanting to find her happiness, until he explained that he felt she was unhappy with life and that maybe if she could find peace and happiness that then he could have the mother he once remembered. The goddess was hesitant at first to pursue his wishes until she noticed his time on this world was short. For as kind and warm as the boy was, Nuuju wanted to not only fulfill his wish to help his mother but to find his end of the string, that was until she noticed that it had disappeared. This was the first time she realized she couldn't see someone's red string of fate, which left her to deduce that it was from the familiarity she gained from becoming acquainted with the boy. Had there not been a goal in Nuuju's mind, she would've panicked, however, she wanted to bring happiness to this boy who deserved it the most from anyone she has come across. But despite being the goddess of fate, she ran out of time and could not fulfill the boy's wishes nor figure out who his fated person was to be before he passed by an attack of a wild animal. This loss broke the goddess for several decades.

Through her grief, Nuuju worked even harder on her responsibilities with a more somber tone. With time, she did manage to heal which then led her to meet Himawari, a passionate, strong-willed young woman who enchanted the goddess. This young lady was the person who granted the goddess' name, Nuuju.

One could say Nuuju favored Himawari more than just a patron, she felt a deeper, personal connection to the female guardian who visited the goddess almost everyday. So it was no surprise to the goddess when the woman's red string faded away from her sight, in fact, she didn't want to find the other person who at the end of her string. Himawari fascinated Nuuju in how straightforward of a person she was. She would often tease the goddess and her old-fashioned mannerisms. Times and traditions were changing of course, but to the goddess who has lived for hundreds of years now, could not tell this difference, but with Himawari she adapted more to the present time then. Although this also was coming around the time when human feelings were beginning to cloud their judgment and behavior towards gods. The village folk and visitors alike were becoming desperate for wishes to come true, times were tough as illnesses were spreading and supplies were at an all time low. Their desperation stirred fits of rage from some residents as they began cursing gods since their wishes didn't seem to be granted quickly or at all. Himawari, true to her guardianship, fought against angry villagers with words and actions for the gods and goddesses, especially for Nuuju, as the goddess of fate came to learn later on.

It wasn't until Himawari was physically struck down by a small group of frustrated villagers that Nuuju understood not only her feelings for the female guardian but the woman's feelings towards the goddess as well as she confessed her feelings before passing away in her own home from internal bleeding. The goddess became lost again to the emotions of loss, but this time she also felt anger towards the negative actions of the villagers and visitors. She was alongside the gods when they decided to take away the privilege of humans seeing them. The only people exempted from this punishment were the guardians as they proved their usefulness over the generations of existence. Despite wanting to do nothing with the humans, Nuuju stuck to her responsibilities as they were the reasons for her existence. She had to continue her duties or she would lose much of her power.

More years have passed, centuries at a time to be more accurate, and things have quieted down from the craziness of the past. The goddess of fate continued her work quietly and diligently, hardly interacting with guardians when they can see her, but over time it became noticeable that the faith in the gods were dwindling. This frightened and frustrated the goddess as her chances of returning to the heavens above were fading from her, the one thing she desired at this point as her punishment of earth was becoming rather unbearable to the deity. She became slightly strung and uptight, snapping at easily anyone, most flinched away except for an elder male guardian. Kenshin, the old guardian, was a silent soul. He hardly caused troubles and more often than not, intervened to break them up. He was a man of wisdom and experience, no one had doubt about it. Nuuju felt indifferent towards the man until he approached her shrine one day. At first, she assumed he was among the many that could not see until he spoke soft words of concern. It was a simple question he asked, yet it broke the goddess down and surfaced her more vulnerable and "human" side.

After that bonding moment, Nuuju welcomed the man everytime he came to visit. He would often share stories of his life aside from his guardianship and even bring his instrument, the shamisen, to play some songs for the goddess. This pleased Nuuju as she began to feel some hope for the people on the surface. The more they hung out, the less frustrated the goddess felt for the world. She realized that all it took was to open her heart again to people, even if it was just one soul. Kenshin did not live much longer after becoming acquainted with Nuuju, which she was aware of the moment she met because of the countdown that hovered around the man. But compared to the previous departures of people she came to know, Kenshin's was more bittersweet. He left hope for the goddess in that she can still return to the heavens one day. That and she still has importance and presence to people whether they directly know it or not.
Other || Nuuju always wanted to learn how to play the instrument, shamisen. Aside from the responsibilities of her existence, the 3-string instrument piques the goddess' interest.

Biography
Shigureโ€™s birth was a long and grueling struggle for his mother, who was a frail woman, it was a miracle that she survived the ordeal to the end. It took almost a day for her to see the face of her firstborn, when most of her strength had been drained and there wasnโ€™t much life left in her. Happiness alone couldnโ€™t calm her fever, which kept her unconscious for nearly a week until her husband couldnโ€™t bear seeing her in that state anymore. In desperation to save his wife, he set out to the mountains, chasing after a fabled herb long known among the villagers that could cure all illness. He never came back.

At the age of twenty, Shigureโ€™s mother became a single mom. Her health never quite recovered and she would never do hard labor again, let alone feeding a child. Out of pity for the weak and sickly woman, the wet nurses in the village took turns breastfeeding the boy, while the men occasionally brought a share of meat and crop to them. It was thanks to the villagersโ€™ compassion that they could survive until Shigureโ€™s coming of age. As for Shigure, who was raised by the whole village, he treats them as his own family and offers his help whenever he could, with all the eagerness and love no less than for his mother. Years went by, the villageโ€™s beloved boy in no time had grown to be a big and reliable man. His strength was most required whenever a new house was raised, a well needed dug, or for the festive time after the harvest. No feast nor merry occasion could be whole without his youthful laughter, and without a new challenger beaten by him in a drinking contest.

Personality
From his messy hair is scent of wildflower, in his laugh, one hears the merry tunes of folk songs, in his robustness, one finds the bursting lifeforce of a life among the mountains. Shigure is everything a village so far off from the turbulence of the cities, deep between the mountains, like Takamagahara could offer: an eager young man who thrives on honest hard work, hearty meals, and mother nature. He loves the village and the villagers more than anything in this world, and in nowhere else would he choose to dwell. While the people love him too, as ever as a kid his presence has been commonplace in their daily lives, from the small chores he did to repay their kindness to his refreshing innocence and energetic manner that breathes life to slow nights and difficult times. He is often seen helping everyone in the harvest season, and without him, the festivals would seem somewhat lacking in life and spirit.

His shortcomings also number many, as to be expected from a twenty-something man whoโ€™s never stepped foot out of the mountain range. Though he is honest, he is too trusting, easily deceived, while also a stranger to the concept of white lies. He didnโ€™t know how to properly flatter or speak things that just arenโ€™t true. To some extent, as the villagers know him well, they donโ€™t lay the blame on him, even on the many occasions when his inability to read the mood or keep his mouth shut has caused no small amount of troubles.

Beyond mere tactlessness, he canโ€™t keep a secret for the life of him, the full range of his expression is displayed on his face and demeanors. The good thing it brings, at least, is his many friends and acquaintances, those people who donโ€™t feel like they have to hold back when being with him.

His over-friendliness sometimes leads people to incomprehension when they discover his preference for spending his time alone. But indeed when not helping the villagers with their harvest, he has a tendency to disappear to nowhere. Usually, he would stay at home helping his mother with the housework and playing with his craftwork. For a strong laborer, Shigure is surprisingly skillful with his hands. He deeply enjoys making little animals and people out of palm leaves โ€“ a popular commodity among the children in market fairs and festival times. But every few weeks, and especially in the summertime, he would hike to the shrines to pay respect and offerings to the gods and goddesses, then wander in the wilderness for days. His simple joy in life is to lose himself in nature, completely immersing. The cackling river, rustling leaves, occasionally wild animals, and nothing else, nothing but the wind to disrupt the stillness of his mind. He likes the feeling of fresh dews on his skin, of the sudden dip in the cold river that sweeps away the burning heat, even of the unseen creaturesโ€™ whispers in the night. He never feels so alive as in those simple times. But without fail, after a week or so, he would come back to the village all refreshed, for ever strong is his love for the people there. They are his family, his home โ€“ those things he would never leave behind.

Other
- The small garden in front of his house has the most beautiful flowers and healthiest vegetables in the village.
- He always wants to have a cat, but they never stay with him for long no matter how well he treats them.
- His favorite animals to fold using palm fronds are cats and buffalos.

Name:
Megumi Kamiyama (ใƒกใ‚ฌใƒŸ - ใ‚ซใƒŸใƒผใƒคใƒž)

Age:
18

Role:
Guardian

DOB:
Spring
(Usually when wisteria start blooming)

Personality:
Whenever someone looks at Megumi, they usually see the perfect girl. Sheโ€™s very kind and caring, but she could also be strict and stern. Being hardworking was something Megumi had always been, she loved to be busy. If she wasnโ€™t busy with anything, she felt like she was useless or she felt empty. She is also very traditional, her family has always upheld many traditions that other families may have stopped doing. She had always helped out with setting up and participating in the ceremonies. She had grown up around shrines, she knew how to clean them and she went so often, that itโ€™s become part of her routine that she visits a shrine.

She also is very well-organised and meticulous in mostly everything she does. Itโ€™s mostly because she hates anything messy, even if you look at Megumi herself, everything is very well put together. Ever since she was young, she was very disciplined and patient, it was the way she was raised. Her parents put her in a kimono ever since she could walk, it was a process that they thought would test her patience and discipline, which it did, especially since she had to learn how to put it on by herself.

She is also fairly intelligent and well-versed in many different topics, like literature, music, and other things. She had always loved reading, it took her away from reality and let her imagination run free, although reading is the only time she can do this. In the real world, she is expected to be a perfect girl and not a dreamer. She knew how to play a lot of traditional instruments and she even knew how to sing a bit. Ever since she was young, she had to know how to do this, so she could help put on performances for the gods.

But no one knows about her deteriorating mental health. Being branded as the perfect girl from the perfect family, Megumi has grown up with a lot of high expectations all around her, from her family to even the people that have heard of her familyโ€™s name. But even with all these expectations to be met, she seems to execute them flawlessly, meeting all the expectations set upon her. Although, she always doubted that she was meeting those expectations. But this takes a toll, putting on this facade all the time. All Megumi really wants is to be free, be able to live her life free of expectations.

Virtues: Compassion, Kindness, Intelligent

Vice: Very Strict (mostly on herself), Self-Doubt, Jealous

Likes: Reading, Cooking, Visiting Shrines

Dislikes: Messy Things, Having nothing to do, Not having rules

Biography: (tw; self-harm)
Megumi was born on Takamagahara, the remote island near Kyoto, and she has never really left. She was born into a very traditional, well-known family, well known in the sense where people who live on the island have at least heard of the name and their reputation. She was born the only daughter in their family, she grew up with 2 other brothers. Her parents raised her in a traditional style. She was wearing a kimono everyday, they took them to shrines, taught them folklore and they learned how to perform different ceremonies and much more. So she heard of the story about the guardians from a young age. She always speculated whether or not the guardians exist or not, but she kept that to herself.

When she grew older, her brothers went away from the island and started their own families. That put even more pressure on Megumi, by being the only daughter of the Kamiyama family, but now also being the last Kamiyama sibling on the island. They havenโ€™t visited in a while, but they send over letters every month and some gifts around Christmas time, every year. At this point, her parents and grandparents had started training her to not only be their perfect daughter, but now she was being trained to be the perfect housewife. More tourists came to the island, trying to find the gods that reside there. And whenever they came, most foreign tourists usually mistook Megumi as a geisha. Thatโ€™s mostly because she walked the streets of Takamagahara in a kimono. She never really wore regular clothes all that often, mostly because she had spent most of her time practicing performances or visiting, cleaning, or praying at shrines.

However, upholding all these expectations comes with a price. Her mental health wasnโ€™t doing well at all. She started to cut herself, mostly on her arms and thighs. It got to the point where she was so tense, that she did it whenever she needed to relieve stress. She also did it whenever she thought she didnโ€™t do a good job at something, kind of like a punishment for herself. The scars became so evident that she had to start wearing more cloth around her arms and thighs, just to make sure no one saw them if her kimono ever moved in a way that exposed her arms or thighs.

Other:

> She carries around a small pouch with a first aid kit inside.

> Her favorite thing to cook and eat is the classic miso soup.

> She always wears something related to the wisteria flower. But if they bloom, sheโ€™ll wear a piece of wisteria in her hair.

The Kyubi no Kitsune, or nine-tailed foxes, are said to be some of the most powerful creatures in all Japanese mythology. Foxes in Japan, like many animals, attain more and more power with age and are known to be some of the most powerful. Foxes are known to be able to manipulate flames known as โ€œfox fireโ€, possess humans and sometimes inanimate objects, and of course shapeshifting. In fact, foxes seem to be the most well known and popular shapeshifter in Japan. They have a particularly hard time hiding their ears and tails while in a human form. For every hundred years that a fox keeps living, it grows a tail and with it more power. A fox will continue this process until it reaches one thousand years of age and gains its ninth tail. Once a fox has nine tails their hair turns either white or golden and they gain near god-like power. They become almost omniscient and can see and notice everything thousands of miles around them.

"Pretty Words Aren't Always True,
and True Words Aren't Always Pretty..."

Name:
Haruko (Though she much prefers 'Haru')

Age:
738

Role:
Kyubi No Kitsune

DOB:
Early Spring

-----

Personality, Virtues & Vices:

-Playful (easily bored, finds ways to amuse herself where possible)

-Mischievous, a trouble-maker at the best of times (especially to the other gods around her, a youthful ignorance to her actions)

-Manipulative (though it isn't a trait she shows often, finding it to be 'dirty')

-Flamboyant, Haru in many ways is someone that doesn't hide the fact she's beautiful, nor misses a chance to make others squirm at their own affections towards her appearance. Often using her shape-shifting abilities to switch between genders as she sees fit, having no preference towards males or females in who she targets, nor whatever gender they seem to desire most. She isn't one to shy away from attention or to stay quiet where she really should be.

-Flirtatious (Though this is rarely an accurate depiction of her feelings, and rather a ploy to make others uncomfortable in aid of amusing herself)

-Well-intentioned (though she doesn't show it well, Haru doesn't actually want to hurt anyone at all, least of all break up relationships due to her own appearance as is rumored. However, her actions and intent can often be two very different things. Pushing others away or coming off as not taking a situation seriously.)

-Avoidant towards personal conversations, in part due to her own missing memories, and in others cases from hiding just how much she despises herself.

-Observant. Though her behavior would lead you to believe otherwise, and even if she isn't the best at listening to the words of others she does note their expressions and behaviors carefully. Always quick to pick up on the emotions of others should they suddenly change or begin to act unlike themselves.

-Acts a lot tougher than she really is. Being the youngest of the gods she often shrinks from her responsibilities and the standards they hold, however, although she is physically far older than any human her emotions are something she struggles with often, holding a certain 'nonchalant' front and repressing whatever true feelings she may have to the best of her abilities. After all, her emotions have power that she is unable to control fully. And that uncertainty- it scares her.

-Although you wouldn't quite describe it as 'clingy' per say, Haru isn't someone who enjoys being alone left to her thoughts. Even during all these years being mostly unseen she was rarely not around the guardians and other humans of the village, that or following around the other gods whether they liked it or not.

Sexuality:
Pansexual, not caring what gender or appearance the other party may hold. However she has never experienced 'true' love, as such her views on its meaning are rather skewed. However it has to be said she leans towards a more female relationship nowadays.

Likes:
Sakura blossoms, Delicious food, The company of others, Animals (especially that of cats and wild critters, having a small and somewhat peculiar fear of dogs), High-quality Alcohol, Seeing others get along.

Dislikes:
Rainy/cloudy weather, When she causes someone pain/heartache in some form, Getting too close to others emotionally, Discussing the past, Those who think they're 'better' than others simply from some title, Not getting the reaction she desired from someone.

Biography:
"It's hard to say I'm sad about what I've forgotten... After all, how can you be upset over things you don't know?... But I suppose that not feeling anything at all is even sadder in a way, huh?"

Haru's life before awakening in the mortal realm is all but a faded blur, and to be honest so is a fair portion of her time directly after. She was left with only two things, her name.. And her knowledge of being a god.

-Haru wandered the lands for a short period over her first hundred or so years, mingling with the humans far more than one would typically expect. In particular she had a habit for captivating the men of this world whether by intention or not, as such it wasn't long till rumors' of the 'Eater of Hearts' began. Spread by those fearing loosing their partners to the goddess's enchanting appearance and ability to shift forms, something still new to her at the time but proving rather handy in escaping at one point a rather angry village after luring one too many people into doing her bidding. Escaping into the woodlands nearby in the form of a somewhat large fox with pure white fur, red markings on its face in intricate shapes. It wasn't long after this encounter she learnt of changing even her own gendered appearance at will. However, she feels most comfortable in her 'true' female form of a somewhat tall voluptuous woman with long, flowing silken white hair and lashes. Often donning a flowing outfit accompanied by a fan she has an odd protective nature over, frequently keeping the item on her person after it was gifted to her by one of the few people she could call a friend after first arriving in this realm.

-After this point in her life Haru settled into a more semi-permanent residence on the god-worshipping shrine island, the only place she could claim to have ever stayed for a decent period even before her prior trips out. Often causing mischief for the tourists that would pass through and overall not taking her godly responsibilities with the same serious tone as her fellow gods. Whether to their annoyance or not she continued on enjoying her life, a few times each season a man (or woman) would come professing their love for her... However it was only ever surface deep, and most often they simply wanted to get close to the goddess for their own benefit or greed. Such was the trouble with supposedly bringing 'good luck' to those that could resist her charms, not but a small portion passed such a test. But even those who did passion rarely ran more than skin-deep. At first this angered the Kitsune, but soon her bitterness turned to playful amusement with the trivial wants of the human heart. Even when attempts were made on her life by those seeking vengeance on these gods among them, she held little agitation to the humans. She admired their passion, ambition and most of all- those that could find true love.

-When those around them lost the ability to see the gods except for a handful of shrine guardians, Haru became more apprehensive with her behavior, fearing loosing the few she still had for company and drawing away from them in this initial feeling. But as fewer and fewer saw them her rambunctious nature returned, not so much out of comfort but rather desperation. It wasn't long until none could see them, their tales fading into storybooks and legends. The goddess felt lost, betrayed and most of all alone... She did not fit in amongst the gods, nor did she have the ability to walk among mortals as their equal... She was nothing but a failure in both regards.

-However one thing did keep the goddess from utter dismay, watching the people of the village still care for the shrines with such attention, tourists still came to ask for their blessings, families still grew and even if they couldn't see her, she was always going to be there, that was her purpose wasn't it? well- she wasn't sure, but it sure seemed like it. Over the years she found her own forms of entertainment, often having conversations as though they could hear her, stealing the occasional snack or wander the area looking for new secrets. One might call the behavior childish, but there really was little else to do but bide time, after all one day... they'd remember, they had to--
right?
