For a moment, Cara had absolutely no idea what Roman was going on about, and she turned her head away from her clothes to look at him with sheer confusion. He seemed passionate about whatever it was that he was talking about, but... why? Did she really say something that offensive? That off? She didn't understand why he was accusing her of not believing her, when her accusation seemed to be completely accurate. After a brief period of thought, she vaguely recalled his lame excuse that he had been at last night's party because of "work", but he couldn't actually expect her to believe that, right? She had given him the benefit of the doubt that he had just been too intoxicated last night to construe a better lie, but he was still trying to run with that one? Really?
It wasn't kind of her, but she couldn't help but to smile in amusement at how distraught he seemed over this. It didn't strike her as alarming, simply because she was used to guys, when caught in a lie, going all out and pulling out the dramatics to try and gaslight the female into believing that she was wrong for simply pointing out the lie. This wasn't the case here, but Cara really had no reason to believe that it wasn't. She was an expert in drama herself, so it seemed like an easy thing to catch, and though a normal person with that line of thought may have been displeased with his actions, Cara found it to be a little funny. Not the actual content of what he was saying, but the fact that he was acting like it was really this deep. If anyone was melodramatic, it was him. She was literally giving him the opportunity to just move on and admit that he weirdly showed up without letting her know, and yet he was dragging it with this far-fetched excuse.
"Would you calm down? And you think I'm the dramatic one!" she said, rolling her eyes but still smiling as she moved some of the dresses onto the chair in her closet, to get a better view at each one independently. As she walked back to the island and straightened out the ones lying there, she said, "The party last night was thrown by my dad's company for his employees, and you're telling me that you were there because of work. Like, are you trying to tell me that you work for my dad's company?" The smile on her face as she spoke, spoke to how far-fetched she believed that scenario to be. While it may have been interpreted as Cara being unkind and dismissive towards Roman, as if there was no way he could land a job at such a prestigious firm, that really wasn't where the energy was stemming from. It came more from disbelief simply because it he had been trying to work for her father's company, nonetheless been hired by it, she simply assumed that he would have had the common decency to let her know. It wasn't like it affected her in any way, and it wasn't like it was some tiny company where Roman would be working hand-in-hand with her dad, but it was still something that she would have wanted to know... just because. She weighed the possibility that maybe he worked for one of their vendors, like the catering company, or the event planning company who had been hired to work the event, but that would have made his unprofessional behavior even more unprofessional, so that didn't really add up. It still seemed like her assumption had been the only logical one, but she looked towards him curiously to see what majestic lie he wanted to come up with to fill in the blanks that only he had created.
