Chapter 1.5

Kaiyo Shizuka

Hair fell in his big Brown eyes, but he barely noticed. His hands moved, almost too quickly to follow. But where they went, they left beauty. His lips were parted, eyes focused on what lay before him, breath coming heavy. Time had lost all meaning as his heart pounded and spirit soared. Color sang.

With one final stroke, things were complete. Panting, he stepped back and observed his work.

The paint still glistened, but he was happy with the end result. Something nagged at him, though.

Kai turned and saw a cluster of girls watching him with wide eyes. He smiled and brushed the hair back from his eyes, smearing his forehead with blue. "Uh, hi, ladies," he said. "What do you think?"

The girls looked from the painting to Kai, who'd taken off his blazer and shirt to avoid splattering them with paint. They looked back at the beautifully rendered landscape, so rich and emotive, they could smell the flowers and trees. They looked back at Kai, smiling warmly, his lean torso speckled with color. The painting. Kai.

In unison, the girls all sighed, "Beautiful...!"

Akari Kawamoto

All Akari wanted to do was take a nap. But first, she'd been harassed by those stupid Hitachiin twins (though she'd gotten them back by giving them noogies), then a few girls had asked her what her secret to all the boys' attention was (wait, she had male attention?), and then she'd been stopped by the gaggle of lovestruck girls surrounding Kaiyo Shizuka. Akari had to admit, the guy was a good artist, but that wasn't really Akari's thing. She had a type, but sadly that type was always surrounded by girls as well. Sigh... If only she wasn't such a tomboy, maybe guys would take her more seriously.

Wait, what was she saying? Was a boy seriously making her rethink her entire life? Great, now she was becoming like all the other girls here at Ouran. Except Haruhi. Now she was awesome. Even the part about her pretending to be a boy in the Host Club. That took guts. Or a severe lack of things to do.

Akari finally pushed her way out of the room, shouldering her bag. Even though she'd been doing it for a few years now, girls still gave her strange looks when they saw her walking around in a boy's uniform. Was it so wrong that she really hated the style of the dress here at Ouran? It was still obvious she was a girl, right? Her long eyelashes and glossy hair (gee, thanks Aunt Rei) gave it away. Her sarcasm and totally unwillingness to wear skirts? Not so much. It wasn't that she didn't like skirts; she was just really picky about them. She had to have a precise style of skirt, or it was no deal. Same with dresses.

Suddenly, Akari sneezed. And then sneezed again. And again. And fifty more times. Without a second thought, she knew someone was talking about her. Probably two someones. "Ugh," she said, digging a tissue out of her pocket. "Those damn twins."

Kai finished scrubbing the paint off his skin, and as he buttoned his shirt, he paused.  It wasn't something he could really explain, but he had the distinct impression something dramatic was happening somewhere, and someone wanted him to say something.

Akari Kawamoto

On her way out of the school, Akari passed by Music Room 3, the home of the Host Club, the place Akari knew held the Hitachiin twins at that very moment. Her Hikaru-Kaoru radar was tingling, so Akari tried to steer clear as fast as she could, but not before she caught a glimpse of a boy facing off with the Host Club, demanding to let him join. She raised an eyebrow, continuing on down the hallway. What's that all about? He clearly belongs in the Black Magic Club. Oh, well. Promising to herself to punch the twins' shoulders the next day, Akari continued on her merry way to go home.

Rokuro Katsu Hisakawa could often be found reading a book in the library and today was no different. He was curled up in the corner of the library, in one of the squishy chairs, with a book in his hand. His eyes scanned the words quickly. Though before he could turn the page he heard a commotion from a nearby classroom. He frowned looking up from his books. Shaking his head he finished the chapter in his book and stood. He packed his things up and threw his bag over his shoulder before walking out of the library, hoping no one would bother him on his way out of the school.

Kai hummed to himself as he strolled down the hallway.  Up ahead, he could hear some sort of kerfuffle.  He poked his head around the corner and saw a group of boys shouting.  They all looked familiar.  As he watched the scene unfold, he took out his sketchbook, drew a pencil from his bun, and began sketching the scene, eyes taking in everything.

Akari stretched her arms over her head. Alright, this is good. I escaped the twins for today. Overall, this has been a satisfying afternoon. Though she hadn't left the campus yet, by the yelling coming from a window above her, those damn brothers would be too occupied to bother her. She chuckled triumphantly. Oh, well. Guess they'll have to wait until tomorrow. Glancing around, she saw Rokuro Hisakawa, and paused, wondering if she should talk to him. She decided against it, since he probably didn't want to be bothered. But she could respect the guy; after all, he liked reading.

Glancing up at the window to the Host Club room, Akari realized the twins' voices were floating down to her. She frowned. What are those two up to? Not wanting to find out, she hurried along, anxious now to get home.

Rokuro walked down the hall past the music room. He heard voices that weren’t very happy going from in there and shook his head as he walked away lost in his own thoughts about what he needed to get done. He finally made it outside as a girl waved to him. Akari Kawmaoto. He waved backed. “ Hey!” He called with a smile. He wasn’t one for much talking most of the time but he didn’t mind saying hi when he saw people. It was polite. He then sighed looking around before he started to head off campus. He thought about his list of things he needed to get from the store before he finally went home.

Kai looked at his drawing.  The blonde boy was wailing and flailing his arms as his friends looked on, and two spooky-looking boys confronted him.  He nodded, satisfied with the hysterical expression he managed to get on the blonde boy's face.
