You find yourself falling through a convulsing vortex, flashes of blues, purples and black strike you as you tumble down, hoping that someone or something is at the bottom to catch you. As you fall, outstretched claws slash at shadows that venture too close to the edge, a warning that straying away from the given path will end in misery.

Down.

Down.

Down.

Until there is nowhere left to fall. Just an empty pit, full of nothingness.

“They’re growing.”

“I know.”

“They’re not safe.”

“I know.”

“They need us.”

“I know.”

A stunning white light emerges at the edge of the darkness, another suddenly appearing beside it as they blink expectantly. The feeling of being watched washes over you but you don’t have time to ask questions.

Without warning, a harsh jolt throws you awake, and you realise that you’re safe in the comfort of your own bed. But as you look around, a familiar flash of white light blinks at you from the corner of your eye.

Kane Ryland

Ironclaw-Beta

Kane awoke with the feeling of falling and even as he opened his eyes it was as if he could feel his body fall onto his bed. His eyes opened against his will, white sleep spots still skittering at the edge of his vision. With a groan of exhaustion, the sleep logged male closed his eyes again and tossed between his sheets in an attempt to fade back to sleep. His attempt ended with a mess of crumpled sheets and an exasperated sigh as he sat up in the middle of his disheveled bed. Even with the hour of the morning the sun's rays were unable to penetrate the blackout shades Kane had used to trim his windows. With the room shrouded in darkness, Kane pulled his large frame from the bed and sauntered over to where he knew his dresser to be. His fingers skimmed the top of the wardrobe searching for the lamp that rested there. With the click of the switch, pale yellow light filled the room. Kane attempted to push through his sleep deprived senses as he dug through the messes of clothes in each drawer in an attempt to find something clean to wear. Settling on a pair of faded jeans and a t-shirt that wasn't stained to hell, Kane pulled the half-assed outfit onto his six-foot-four frame. Tugging on his tattered black work boots he sighed as he pulled open the door to his room.

Even as he made his way through the pack house he couldn't seem to shake his dream. The more he tried to remember, though, the less he could seem to recall. He raked his hand through his hair realizing he hadn't bothered to comb it. The beta shrugged to himself with a silent scoff as he entered the kitchen. As quietly as he could, so as not to wake the others, he toasted a bagel and started a pot of coffee. Lathering the bagel in cream cheese and pouring himself a black coffee he slid into a chair at the kitchen's bar and silently picked at his food. Kane let his mind wander over the things he had to get done today, which in reality wasn't much.

Colby

Buzz. Buzz. Buzz.

Colby rolled over with a groan and stretched an arm out to the night stand on his side of the bed. He fumbled around until he found the source of the noise, depressing the button and silencing it. He sighed and rolled back into the warmth of his bed, primarily there because he'd been curled up around his wife like the big spoon.

He nuzzled his face into the back of her neck, taking in the scent of her skin and hair, the subtle scents of the products she used. He groaned in protest, not wanting to leave the warmth and comfort of their bed, he thought to attempt to entice her to stay there, with him, instead of rising and starting their day. He gently pushed aside her hair, pressing soft kisses along her neck and behind her ear. "Good morning Duchess." He whispered softly.

He wrapped an arm over her shoulder, gently cupping her cheek as he leaned over her, bringing his lips to hers in a soft kiss as she woke up. His hand slipped back beneath the covers with intent but Colby quickly froze as the static sounds of their daughter howling through the baby monitor. He sighed deeply, leaning back to smirk at Lyla. "I guess not then," He winked playfully. "One day this will actually work."

With that he delivered a final kiss to her lips before rolling out of the bed. "I'm coming, Princess." He called out, though he knew very well Lisa couldn't hear him. "Mommy is just being a slacker, staying in bed." He made his way around the bed, headed for the bedroom door.

He found their daughter in her crib, standing and gripping the top rail of her crib as she screamed her protest at being locked away. Colby always smiled at the sight of their flesh and blood, the little miracle creation. He never thought he'd find himself in this place; a wife and child, a pack he believes in and one that believes in him. He'd been through some dark years - as had Lyla - and meeting her had been a turning point. She was sweet and kind and thoughtful, despite everything she had been through. A guiding light he needed to turn himself around. He wanted to be better because of her, for her and now, for their daughter.

"Oh baby." He cooed, Lisa's crying quieting down as he approached. "It's really not that bad." He picked her up out of the crib and hugged her, bouncing her gently on his hip until she calmed down. "Time to start the day, Princess."

Rivercrest Alpha | Location: Rivercrest Pack House - Kitchen | Tags: N/A | Mentions: N/A

Jeremiah stirred gingerly at the eggs in the pan below whilst his mind was wandering back to the dream that had woken him nearly an hour ago. Unable to go back to sleep the man opted to get up, shower then start making breakfast for anyone who came seeking food. It wasn't uncommon to find Jeremiah preparing food, especially in the mornings. There was no schedule for such a thing, it mostly came down to whoever was first to the kitchen and didn't mind cooking for a few extra mouths should there be interest. There were just as many days where most would make their own meals and eat different things, what with preferences and differing schedules. Jeremiah's sleep patterns typically had him being among the first few to make it to the kitchen most mornings, and he'd never gotten complaints about his food before.

Something about the dream wouldn't stop tugging at his the back of his mind however, especially considering it had bled into the real world when he'd woken up and could have sworn he'd seen a light fade out of the corner of his eye. The Alpha kept trying to chalk it up to waking up so abruptly and that initial haze one gets while regaining consciousness. With the eggs finishing Jeremiah moved the pan onto a different burner and put the glass cover on it so they'd keep warm longer then moved onto the nearby sausages and bacon, his stomach finally catching up to the smells wafting up and deciding to growl in discontent. A digit on his free hand coming to rest too close to one of hot pans caused the man to hiss and pull it away, his wandering thoughts and split concentration getting the best of him. "Ah! Damnit!" The man grumbled, stepping a few feet to his right so he could turn the sink on and run the burn under some cold water for a moment then shutting it off. Reaching down he grabbed at the hand towel to dry his hands then quickly returned to the stove once again before anything cooked on one side too long.

Sabrina Jolted up in bed as dream came to a conclusion. She was breathing heavily and her heart pounded in her chest as adrenaline coursed through her veins from the sensation of falling. She saw a flash from the corner of her eye and quickly turned only to find nothing. As she began to relax she sank back into the bed, pulling the sheets back over her and groaning.
"What was that?" she mumbled to herself before finally forcing herself out of bed. She tried to think over the dream but it was all but a fuzzy haze now, just the feeling remained. The one thing she was able to hold onto was the flash of light, it seemed to have seared itself into her memory, at least for now. She then moved to the bath room to take a brisk shower, letting the cool water help wake her body and distract her from the dream. Feeling refreshed she quickly prepared to head into the kitchen. Upon entering the kitchen she found Jerimiah already preparing breakfast. She moved around him to get a tea bag and kettle to boil some water.
"Good morning Jeremiah. How are you this morning?" she asked grabbed a mug before sliding into one of the bar top stools while she waited for the water to boil.

Asher

“Last Call!”

Asher nodded at the bartender as he passed by, the motion making the room spin but that didn’t stop the man across the bar dropping two bottles in front of him. He said nothing, bringing the first of the bottles to his lips and drinking it back. He set the empty bottle on the table before nursing the second one.

He was surprised that none of the usual suspects had arrived during the night, it wasn’t often that Asher drank alone the whole night.

The light around him brightened and people started to file out of the local bar but Asher didn’t move from his stool, setting the second empty bottle. Once more the bartender passed before him, setting two more bottles on the counter before him, removing the others. It was an unspoken bond between him and … Brian? Brent? He couldn’t remember exactly at the moment but that didn’t matter! The bond was still there, even if he couldn’t remember.

In a repeat of his last performance he immediately drank back the first before nursing the second.

By the time he finished the second bottle B-man was helping Asher to the door with one arm over his shoulder.

“Man, do you need me to call someone …. ?”

Asher waved him off, mumbling something incoherently before staggering down street towards the pack house.

***

Asher managed to get the front door open after four attempts with his keys before sliding down the wall for balance. He was heading for the stairwell when the scent of bacon and sausage. “Fuck yes.” He turned and started down the hall for the kitchen, shedding his outdoor boots and jacket along the way. It had to be Skyla or Sabrina up and making breakfast, right?

He rounded the corner into the kitchen and stopped dead in his tracks seeing Jeremiah standing in front of the stove cooking away. He’d only been half wrong, Sabrina was in the kitchen too... “Shit.”

"I am just a line without a hook."

The dream had awoken the brunette with a start, causing him to lurch upright in his bed with a small, almost inaudible gasp. His blue eyes were wide open, albeit a film of sleep still covered his irises. What was that...? It wasn't often that Finn remembered his dreams, but this one was both vivid and realistic--almost too realistic. The white blink from the corner of his eye caused the Irishman to turn his head, but the light disappeared as soon as he began to move. Like a whisp in the corner of his peripheral vision, it was gone before he could even begin to register what it might have been. The dream was also fading from his memory despite the intensity, disappearing in a dense fog that only a deep sleep could cause. Oh well--if it held any significance, it would return to him later.
Slowly getting out of his bed, the omega stretched his arms above his head with a yawn. He needed some coffee--some breakfast would also be wonderful, but he couldn't cook to save his life. All he could hope was that someone else was awake and cooking, otherwise his breakfast could consist of coffee and coffee alone. Finn ran a hand through his tousled chocolate curls, weakly trying to untangle the mess they became in the middle of the night. Little came of it, and he knew he would have to fix it later--but for now, all he cared about was getting substance into him. Pulling on some plaid pants and an old shirt (he only ever slept in boxers), the young man opened the door to his room and stepped outside.
Walking into the main area of the pack house, the faint smell of food wafted into his nostrils--thank god someone was cooking. He would guess it was either Sabrina or Skyla, but upon further investigation, it was in fact their alpha standing at the stove. The young omega also caught sight of Sabrina, a soft smile coming to his features. He looked up to the female as a mother figure in a sense--someone who cared for him when his illnesses cropped, checked in on him, and made sure he was okay. He didn't have much of a mother figure in his life for a good portion of it, so having one now was...comforting. Jerimiah was a kind and strong man, but Finn would be lying if he said the alpha didn't intimidate him. Most people did, so it wasn't too weird for Finn. Walking into the kitchen, the still waking op Omega smiled softly. "Good morning Sabrina, Jerimiah." He greeted weakly, his voice quiet. He went straight for the coffee maker, intent on brewing a pot for whoever wanted some. Hearing someone curse, the thin man turned his head to see a drunk Asher stopped dead in the doorway. Finn watched the other man for a moment, deciding to keep his tongue and let Jerimiah handle it if he chose to. Turning the coffee pot on after he did all the necessary tasks, the omega grabbed his favorite mug (it has a river otter on it) as he waited.

Ren - Ironclaw Pack - Omega

Ren tossed and turned within the thin sheets covering her mattress, brows furrowed together as her face scrunched in the discomfort of the strange dream plaguing her mind. The feeling of falling- The voices, she couldn't escape their echoes until she was jolted awake in a slightly sweaty panic. Harshly gulping trying to soothe the dryness in her throat as she looked around quickly, blinking before spotting a strange light at the edge of her vision only for it to be gone the next time she opened her eyes. She let her fingers grasp a little at the flat surface underneath them, blanket getting balled up in them before she let out a sigh and relaxed. 'It was just a dream?-...' She thought with a nervous chuckle under her breath. Flopping backwards back into the old and stiff pillow she let herself lay there for a few moments, staring blankly at the ceiling as her eyes adjusted before getting up with a quiet "Hup!" as she part jumped, part slid off the bed. Subsequently this action caused her to bash her forehead against the low beam of the small under stairwell room she was in, wincing as she grabbed at the spot with both palms flat against it, one eye shut in temporary pain as the other looked around before she removed her hands and gave a mix between an annoyed and pouting expression on her lips.

Reaching out a short distance she placed a hand on the small dresser beside her bed, shuffling through the limited clothing selection before grabbing her usual favorite singlet and jean combo, throwing them on quickly and brushing fingers through her black, curly locks to try and look a little less of a mess. A chore that was rather tricky without a mirror. It's not that she couldn't go to the communal bathroom- but uh, It was early. And not waking someone else bigger and scarier than her, not that such was a hard task, wasn't worth the risk it presented. Realizing now was her time to strike and grab breakfast hopefully without being caught by someone else she tried her best to quietly open her door and sneak out into the hallway. Creeping down the corridor before arriving just short of the kitchen doorway, peeking her head around it cautiously before being greeted with a much more enjoyable situation than she had imagined.

"Kane!" She let out in a heavily hushed yelp of excitement, revealing herself fully and coming in with a smile filled with child-like innocence, her small and unthreatening frame a total opposite of his large and muscular one as he sat at the kitchen bar eating a bagel. The girls bubbling enthusiasm towards the much, much higher ranked member of the pack was somewhat heartwarming- or annoying, even to others in the group. Whatever fear of being scolded she had slipping away completely and replaced with a goofy smirk, oblivious to the still present large red line shaped mark from her early confrontation with the beam.

Safa

Strange dreams. Safa rarely had a restful night of sleep given how busy and stressful her life was on a regular basis but the dreams she had last night were strange. She could hardly remember the details now that they'd faded away but she could still remember just the oddness she'd felt after waking.

She knew better than to try and get back to sleep. For one she was somehow certain she would just be right back into the dream again and that wasn't something she wanted to do. Second to that, she was just too busy.

Safa got up and dressed in her work out, heading from her personal apartment to the common rooms where the pack gathered. She wasn't surprised to find she was alone at this hour, that was often the way. She made her way to the gym, selected a treadmill and started her morning run. She set up her tablet, popped in her ear pods and started going through her emails and setting up meetings with her business partners and staff for the day.

Harriet

She jerked awake, her heart racing. She stared at the early darkness of her bedroom. It was a rarity she had nightmares, in fact she hadn't had one since her childhood before being adopted into the pack and turned. She frowned and blinked away the light that remained static in the corner of her eye. Certainly that wasn't supposed to happen. Perhaps wolves dreams were different from humans? It was something she was going to have to ask about later, when she ran into another pack member.

She sighed, wiggling and rolling until she was turned over in Maddox's arms, facing him. She knew very well he didn't sleep through waking up. He never did. "Good morning sunshine." She whispered, leaning in to kiss his lips despite his eyes still being closed. She accepted his grunt as the only response she was going to get.

Harri dragged Maddox's arm off of her so she could roll out the opposite side of the bed to start her day. She dressed, and headed down from the loft to the only other room in their modest A-framed cottage (aside from the small bathroom). She lit a fire, setting a kettle over the flames to start their morning tea and warm the main floor of the cottage. She smiled to herself recalling the first time Maddox had stayed the night, he'd got up when she did, tired and groggy and sat with her as she meditated for the first hour of her day. She remembered him nodding off beside her, even snort-snoring once or twice before she'd sent him back to bed.

Now it was just their routine. She got up to meditate, he slept in and the pair of them did yoga before a run. After all of that they hit up the community house for breakfast with the rest of the pack.

She settled cross legged on her soft woolen rug, closing her eyes and breathing deeply.

Salem Hozer

"Society cannot and will not define me."

The odd dream did not awake Sal with a jump or a start, rather they merely opened their eyes in a confused daze. What kind of dream was that? A premonition, perhaps? It would be a good thing to bring up to Safa whenever their paths crossed--knowing the Alpha, she was no doubt working out and getting a start on the day. Sal knew better than to interrupt her then unless it was an emergency, and as far as they were concerned, an odd dream was not a good reason. Letting out a gentle yawn, they slowly sat up in their bed after lounging in place for a handful of minutes. They needed to get going--time to get started on their day. With slow, deliberate movements, the beta pulled their body from their warm bed with a huff--they hated getting out of bed when the weather was getting colder. Sal often left their window open to cool down their room, seeing as they slept best in the crisp autumn air.
Moving towards their closet, the beta grabbed clothes for the day before slipping them on. It wasn't professional ware by any means--more of Sal's personal style of 'grunge meets tired adult trying their best'. Leaving their personal room to head towards the shared common room, the beta didn't think anyone else would be awake. Sure enough, they were correct--the common room was empty. It gave Sal the freedom to do as they wished without much else thought, as well as wake up at their own pace. They swiftly decided to cook breakfast for themself, and subsequently, anyone else who decided to join them in the kitchen.
Walking into the area mentioned, Sal quickly set to work on making an omelet. It was complete with tomato, mushrooms, spinach, and ham--a balanced breakfast to start another day. Standing at the stove, the buzz-cut-haired beta watched their food carefully--the last thing they needed was a burnt omelet this early in the morning.

River O'Conner - Rivercrest Pack - Lead Scout

ceda192e8345819a420cf8fbdbbee16e.jpg

River had been awake for a while at this point- well, perhaps 'awake' was too strong a word for it. Groggily in some place between sleep and uncomfortable shuffling was possibly a better description. Letting out a muffled groan as she turned her head into her pillow whilst laying on her side she decided the suns blinding rays slipping through her window were finally too much, and with little sign of more sleep coming matched with a busy day ahead there was no point in resisting any longer. Pulling herself up the fiery red haired woman blew a strand of hair out of her face with a puff of breath before standing up slowly and stretching, rubbing absentmindedly at her aching neck before beginning to get dressed.

Rummaging through her draws she grabbed a hairbrush and briefly passed it through her slightly tangled locks before placing it down and pulling on her usual baggy hoodie. It was old and well loved, but still surprisingly a rather vivid purple and having only a single small hole in the right sides wrist sleeve. Next part of the day was the usual bathroom break before the scent of breakfast finally caught her attention, the young scout leader making her way downstairs with a curious expression as to who was cooking- she didn't think Sky was up yet? Maybe Sabrina...

However when her eyes set on Jeremiah she couldn't help but stifle a giggle, as scary as the man could seem there was something sort of adorably out-of-place with him standing there making them all food. Finally making her way down the last step, after all it wasn't quite as easy as it used to be with her whole current situation, she was about to extend a wave with a cheeky grin at the pair assembled before someone burst through the door strongly reeking of alcohol and a night on the town. That 'someone' was of course, Asher. The two had a rocky relationship, something akin to a mix between friendship and enemies.

Going over to the man's frozen form looking at their alpha, the pregnant woman gave barely a moments chance for the curse to leave his mouth before reaching out a hand and grabbing at his ear, tugging him through the doorway and into the room with an evidently peeved off glare. Arms crossed over her evidently somewhat large abdomen regardless of how the jumper attempted to act as though it wasn't there, she raised a brow as she stood in front of him. Somewhat of a funny sight with the height difference between the two, "Just what the hell do you think ya' doing going out and drinking yourself shit faced!- Christ it's a weekday for goodna' sake!? You reek of booze and look like you could barely make it in the door! Honestly- We all have work to do ya' know. You're a high ranking pack member! take the title seriously will ya!? You can't just go out every night like this and expect us to clean up after YOUR mess!" She lectured with an aggressive and slightly raised voice, clearly feeling no threat from the lead enforcer, more treating him like a spoilt brat.

This particular morning was much of the same, new norm for the young Alpha. Having risen hours before the sun would even consider an appearance, slid out from her bed, leaving behind another lump next to her. Quietly, she rearranged her own blankets to keep the mass from losing any heat and went to work donning an oversized sweatshirt and worn out black jeans. Grabbing her keys and a pair of work boots, the woman paused to give her eyes a moment to adjust before she continued down the hall and out the back door in a tiptoe.

The crisp, nighttime air felt as though it propelled her forward on her mission to reach the workshop. Her boots were thrown on and tied hastily while she was still standing, eyes fixed on the door as though it was the exit sign in the back of the theater at the world's worst movie. After a few more moments struggling with her keys in the dark, she flicked the light on in the small woodshop. The light was rather dim and the tools were weathered and painfully ordinary, but in that moment, flipping that switch on felt like entering a different world entirely. In this world, questions were answered easily - things made sense. Among the tools and sawdust, Astrid found an escape; but it wasn't long before her mind wandered back home to her pack, the woman in her bed, and all the new responsibilities that she had found herself with. With busy hands, these thoughts were welcomed; but only if she kept moving.

When she finally had enough light, she rolled up her sleeves and went to work dragging cut firewood to the common area and setting them up to be split on the stump she had positioned next to a large fire ring that she had gotten the okay from Seth to install several years earlier. It was still one of her greatest achievements - notably the log-carved benches and coolers she built into the ground next to them.

Impatiently, she used the sun as her clock, watching and waiting for the first ray of light to appear over the tree line. Astrid couldn't seem to tear her eyes from the trees, even as she went inside to start a commercial coffee pot and flick on the electric tea kettle. As soon as the light hit the trees on the other side of their community, she went back to work, splitting the logs while nursing a small flame in the pit. It was finally the perfect temperature for the pack to take their morning coffee outside, together.

Henry Abernathy awoke with a start in the wee hours of the morning. It wasn't often that had a dream in the first place, never mind one so crisp and clear. He felt as though he still remembered every, confusing detail of it - better than most things he was meant to remember.

Shrugging on his usual shorts and a t-shirt, the man had barely given himself time for a breath before he was out onto the quiet streets, taking in the chilly morning air. It wasn't until then, that the man realized that it was likely time to change his clothing with the reasons, but broke out into a run before he could think better of it. It wasn't until then that he felt he had truly woken up. Although they weren't the dirt roads of his family's farm, Henry had taken to the quiet roads of the Rivercrest territory like a fish to water - especially in the quiet hours. The sounds of the remaining birds in the tree and the lapping of water by the docks created a chorus that mingled with his footfalls and bounced off of the rocky terrain. Having caught a second wind before he had even really finished his first, this particular run ended up half a mile longer than his usual routine. It wasn't until the cold air began to burn his nose and throat that the man circled back for the pack house. Although he'd be making better clothing choices in the future, he was grateful not to return to the others sweaty and disheveled.

As he entered the house, Henry found himself absent-mindedly following his nose to the kitchen. He slipped by Asher without a second thought, although it took until he found himself standing at the coffee pot next to Finn, mug in hand before he registered the man's smell to be alcohol. Shaking his head with a small chuckle, his eyes drifted over the their alpha before falling to the mug in his hands. Suddenly, the average, white mug had become all too interesting. He could feel the energy of the room shifting, despite the fact that he had just gotten there. Smiling politely to Finn, he set his fingertips on the mans back gingerly as he reached across him to grab the sugar.

" 'Scuse me, sir," The words came almost in a whisper, but the deepness of his voice and heavy twang made it carry.

For reasons she could not articulate, another long day had turned into another long night, that rolled right into another long morning for Natalie. All she knew was that the dark rings around her eyes agreed that she needed coffee. Pulling herself upwards from the city curb that she had parked herself on at some point before the sun had come up, the woman gathered the neat pile of cigarette butts that had mysteriously appeared next to her before she continued back inside, doing her best to dust herself off as she entered the elevator. Where the musky city puddles hadn't been very kind, Nat found her reflection in the elevator door to be far more agreeable as she used it to rake her fingers through her hair. With a quick sniff to her jacket, the woman straightened. Coffee and cigarettes. Although she ached for a shower, she figured there were worse things.

What Natalie didn't often share, was that this time of year had always been the hardest for her - even when things were moving in her favor. The dates surrounding the month of October were riddled with family birthdays and traditions - namely her younger sister's yearly violin concert. From the time Nora was old enough to hold a violin, until the year Nat left home, she hadn't missed a single one. Although these days, she had no idea whether or not they even happened anymore. It made her homesick, and then the homesickness made her feel guilty, and then the guilt made her homesick as well. cyclical chaos seemed to be a theme in her life as of late. While trying to keep herself in order kept her out late, it was an odd, unsettling daydream that kept her out until after dawn.

As she made her way through the common room, she heard the shuffling in the kitchen of the beta as they made their breakfast. Straightening at the realization, a small part of the woman hoped that she looked reasonably presentable; but she pushed it to the back of her mind. It was too late, anyway. Pasting an easy-going smile onto her face, she continued into the kitchen and prepared a pot of coffee, nodding to Sal as she passed.

"Morning, chef," Her voice lacked the humor that she intended, so she had to make up for it by flashing a small grin as she went about her task. She could smell the city streets on her clothes as well, but hoped that the intermingling of the coffee and omelet might mask it.

This morning, rather that weighing whether or not to throw his phone across the room, the wake up call found Jeremy willing and ready to roll out of bed. Less because he was ready to take on the day, and more because he was ready to be finished with the night's strange dreams. It seemed like he hadn't gotten one singular minute of dark nothingness in the night - his brain running circles around riddles that seemed to make no godly sense. Besides, this was his first day that wouldn't be spent sending his family vague details of his wareabouts and shoring up their financials until he felt he had the control to come back home.

In the few weeks that he'd spent living among Ironclaw, the idea of slowing down for awhile appealed to the young man more and more. Where his life before was filled with odd job after odd job, his life in the warehouse required much less of him. he was truly only responsible for himself - rather than working out schedules and budgeting for a family of four. Jeremy thought that this change would come with a sense of emptiness, but instead, it felt as though a weight had been lifted off of his chest. He also thought that if he stopped to think about it, he might feel guilty for that fact; but so far, all he could manage to think about was what sugary cereal he'd be eating that morning.

Rolling out of bed and tossing on some clothes, he grabbed a jacket and headed down to the kitchen with an extra spring in his step and a mile-wide grin on his face.

"Morning, yous guys," He greeted the other two with a grin, pouring some Frosted Flakes into a bowl as he tried to remember their names. The human brick wall was Kane - that was for sure. He was the beta. The other, though? Something that started with an 'R'? Damn. He was going to have to clean up his act a bit. Without another word, he found himself a spoon and stuck it into the bowl before pouring himself a cup of orange juice. with that, he found himself an apple and lodged it into his mouth to free his hands for the rest of his breakfast. With that, he wandered into the common room and found himself a couch to curl up on with his small feast, tucking his legs under him and off to the side.

When the sun rose upon a new day in the desert, the harsh rays were hard to avoid. It always seemed as though the very first beam of sunlight snaked its way through Marlow's curtains to fall dead upon her face as she slept. No matter how many times she moved her bed. This particular morning, the ray of light had been more offensive than usual; as not only did it wake Marlow up, but it also shed physical and metaphorical light on the night prior. The woman's head pounded as she swung her legs over the side of her bed and reached for the tylenol on the nightstand - her own lucky talisman. She swallowed the pills dry, wrinkling her nose at the way she felt them all the way down. It wasn't until then that she changed out of her clothes from the night before, into yet another pair of ripped up skinny jeans and another grungy band t-shirt. Quickly, the wrung the rings on her fingers and fiddled with the black stud earring that ornamented her left ear as her own personal ritual to make sure she was all still in one piece after whatever debauchery had unfolded the night before. With that, she was out the door and headed down the hall.

Although she was now up before a lot of others in the pack, Marlow had never been the kind to let a late night eat into her next morning. It made for a boring day - and that would never fly. Besides, she enjoyed the genuine silence in the desert in the early hours; even if she didn't enjoy the quiet for very long. Silence felt claustrophobic to her when squarely faced with it, rather than just the fleeting, passing moments. She was picky about it. Thankfully, on this particular morning, the silence lasted for the perfect amount of time. As she went to pour her cup of coffee, she could hear the echo of the Monroe baby's cries. Initially, the sound earned a grin from her, although it faded as she waited for the crying to stop-- or some sort of confirmation that she was being tended to. As per usual, it didn't take her parents long to come to her rescue.

After she had added an unholy douse of cream and sugar to her coffee, she opened a cabinet under the counter and snaked her arm inside to feel around the underside of the counter. Retrieving a large flask, she poured some of the contents into her coffee while mumbling about her grandfather. What did he say? Something about hangovers and hair and dogs hair? Whatever it was, it made the action feel justifiable. Tucking it back away, she started the coffee pot back up and wandered over to the window peering outside as she sipped from her mug. She was off from the mechanic shop today and the restlessness was already threatening her from the back of her mind.

With footsteps reaching his ears Jeremiah glanced over his shoulder just in time to be greeted by Sabrina as she made her way towards the kitchen, "Morning," He chimed back with a smile. "Ah, you know me. Just peachy after a decent nights rest." He glanced to the side as she passed him by to start boiling some water. The Healer had been young when he'd joined the pack, he'd watched her mature into a strong woman. Even after the incident seven years ago, when Jeremiah himself had taken up the position of Alpha he'd seen her stay strong and be there for those around her who were mourning and hurting. After hearing one of the stools behind him become occupied another figure joined them from the direction of the bedrooms. Finn always walked softly, especially around Jeremiah, the Omega had been brought into the pack just before the incident that claimed the previous Alpha and Beta. Which meant, even if for a short time, he'd seen Jeremiah at arguably his worst. So the Alpha always tried to give the young man space. "Morning Finn." He greeted back, "You two sleep well?"

The man had paused halfway with flipping a piece of bacon when hearing metal jingles in the distance, followed by the front door being opened. The Alpha opted to continue what he was doing but was curious who would have woken up and slipped out of the house before he'd made his way to the Kitchen earlier. This was answered by an excited voice as heavy footfalls came down the steps across the room. Jeremiah turned his head to see Asher turning the corner, with a look and a comment like a kid caught with his hand in the cookie jar. The Alpha frowned, it was clear the Lead Enforcer had been drinking, and the smell of booze and sweat had slowly wafted over. Had Asher trekked all the way from town? It was no short walk even sober. A dozen different things popped into his head that he'd like to say, maybe even yell a bit. But before the man could open his mouth River had a hold of Asher and was giving him an earful.

With little else to do Jeremiah returned his attention to the food at hand, deciding to let the pregnant woman get her licks in. With everything finishing Jeremiah opened an overhead cabinet and grabbed a few plates before turning around and setting one in front of Sabrina and four others along the bar for the others currently present. Grabbing the pan with scrambled eggs he lifted off the top and went down the row of plates, scraping off a helping with the spatula as he went. One plate in particular getting an extra large helping given a certain Lead Scout was eating for two. "Bacon and sausage?" He asked curiously, glancing from Sabrina in front of him to Finn over by the coffee maker, while ignoring the Asher ordeal from across the room. The Alpha already placing some of each on his, Asher, and River's plates. Henry's entrance let Jeremiah know he was indeed not the first one up this morning after-all, "You eat yet Henry?" He asked, not diverting his attention from loading the plates.

Asher

He quickly frowned upon realizing that Jeremiah was not alone in the kitchen. Somehow he'd missed seeing Sabrina and Finn in the room, though the Omega wasn't easy to spot when he didn't want to be seen. A slow smile crept across his lips as he met the eyes of his Alpha and despite his drunken demeanor a plan was quickly formed to flip the Alpha's look of consternation into one that he hoped would border between flirtation and awkwardness.

His lips parted and he was about to step into the room while his vision was filled by a fiery demon. He stared at the tiny ball of fire as she cursed at him - or at least he assumed she was cursing at him, it was hell to understand the woman on a good day, she was unintelligible when his brain was only working at half mast.

She'd pulled his ear, he was sure she was expecting a reaction but his face had been numbed from both alcohol and the fact he'd just spent the better part of two hours walking back from town to the secluded Pack House. What few things he did catch out of the angry incubator he didn't agree on.

He swatted her hand away, standing back up to his full height of six-six to tower over River. "Listen here, nugget." Why nugget? He didn't know. "It may be a weekday but there's no working today. Trawlerings done. Two!" He held up two fingers but quickly dropped them, slight fear she'd break them. "Our dear Alpha was tucked snug in his bed with the whole pack 'round him. If he isn't safe here with all of you, he isn't safe anywhere."

He gingerly slipped around the woman to make for the table where Jeremiah had left a decent amount of food on the plate at his seat at the table. He dropped into his chair. "If you want to blame anyone you should be blaming the two that never showed up last night." He paused, long enough for the Alpha to invite Henry in to the meal. He glanced over his shoulder at River, where he'd left her. "Skyla and Sabrina never showed up, I wouldn't have drank so much if they had come. I waited all night, the two of them never showed. Maybe you should talk to them about making commitments? " He shrugged, turning his attention back to the table. "Pass the pepper?"

Sabrina chuckled a bit at Jeramiah's response. "Of course."
As Finn walked in she watched as he walked over to the coffee pot. She barely heard his quiet greeting. "Good Morning Finn," She responded with a chipper tone. "I had a weird dream, it seemed real. Maybe we should discuss it later if more of the details come back to me."
It wasn't long before the peace was broken by the sound of someone cursing from the hall, proceeded by some yelling. She sighed and looked over her shoulder to see River giving the obviously drunken Asher an earful. She let out a disappointed sigh as she watched the scene. Hearing Jeramiah speak up again she turned back toward him. "Both please," She responded with a strained smile.
As if on time the familiar whistle of the kettle filled the space. She quickly hopped out of the stool and hurried over to the kettle. She stopped to give Finn a side hug as she moved past him. She had taken the boy under her wing since he joined the pack. She'd grown a particular soft spot for him and worried about him a lot due to his illnesses.
"Henry," She added with a polite nod. She began to pour the water in her mug, which already had her tea bag in it. This morning was already off to a rough start considering the weird dream and now the situation unfolding with Asher. She stiffened a bit as he tried to push some of the blame on her. She gently set the hot kettle down before moving to fridge. She grabbed a Pedialyte and slammed the bottle down in front of Asher.
"Asher, you're an adult and should be able to take care of yourself. Neither I or Skyla should have to babysit you. Plus, you know I only work on weekends. Now drink the Pedialyte," She said, her tone and expression holding all the disappointment and sternness of a mother who was scolding a child. She then retrieved her mug of tea and took a long sip before returning to her seat. "Thank you for Breakfast Jeramiah," She said, her expression having returned to her usual pleasant one.

Maddox Kincaid

Every muscle in Maddox's body tensed as he awoke suddenly from the dream... or nightmare. He wasn't sure which it was, in all honesty. He had never had one quite like it. Maddox had had his fair share of both since being Turned, with one of the greatest hits being the night he "met" Harriet, such as it was. Rather, the night she had found him half-dead (or more), shot full of holes, in the middle of the woods and nursed him back to health. She had saved his life that day... in more ways than one. It was for that reason alone that he didn't consider that dream a nightmare, despite the death and the pain and the fear that featured in it.

Somehow, the dream he had just escaped from managed to be more disturbing. And "escape" was the right word. It had felt like a net, a current, pulling his mind inward in a sensation that he didn't care for in the least. Perhaps that was why he lay still, eyes closed, processing the aftermath -- even as Harriet stirred next to him. Maddox returned her kiss and greeting with a grunt. After the slipped out of bed, he sprawled out, trying in vain to relax and find a few more moments of restfulness. It wouldn't come. With a resigned sigh, he finally opened his eyes with a frown. A spot of white was visible in the corner of his eye. He Maddox blinked repeatedly, raising the heel of his palm to rub at the offending eye, to no avail. He let out an annoyed grunt. Vision problems on top of strange dreams were the last thing he needed. He would speak to Harriet about it soon -- she would know more.

For now, he climbed out of bed, dressing and heading to the bathroom to freshen up. Afterward, he made his way down from the loft. He saw Harriet sitting upon her mat -- utterly at peace -- and smiled to himself. When the two of them had started dating, he had given meditation a try. More than once, in fact. It simply never quite clicked for him. Eventually, Harri had given him leave to spend his time on other pursuits while she meditated in the mornings (oftentimes that meant sleeping) and he hadn't needed much convincing. Not wanting to disturb his girlfriend, Maddox crept through the common area of the cottage to head for the front door -- trusting Harriet would save her questions for later -- and nudging it open to step outside.

Maddox immediately made a beeline toward the Lodge to check the day's assignments to make sure nothing pertinent had come up. The building was largely deserted -- no surprise there. He and Harriet were often among the Pack's earliest risers. He returned to the cottage, but moved around the back, where a few odds and ends were stacked up: including several dumbbells and a kettlebell. Harriet had her own ideas of self-improvement with yoga and meditation, while Maddox had his. Briarwood's campsite scarcely had enough room for a gym, which meant he had to improvise with what he could bring from town. The rusted handheld weights weren't the most comprehensive regimen, but he was also known to use nearby tree branches as pull-up bars in addition to his normal knuckle push-ups, crunches, and of course, the run with Harriet. Maddox wasted little time, figuring he'd have probably have just enough to break a sweat when Harriet would be ready for him.

"I am just a line without a hook."

Finn didn't really want to see how this whole ordeal was about to go down, but the food made by the Alpha and his brewing coffee kept him in place. The gentle greetings from his fellow pack mates put his mind at ease, for the time being, eyes shifting from watching the brown liquid drip to Jerimah's cooking. It was true that the Alpha was scary to the young omega--he had witnessed the other at his worst when the accident with the previous alpha and beta happened. He had just recently joined the pack at that point, and coming into so much chaos was...unsettling, to say the least. It took months for Finn to acclimate properly, and even more to actually begin interacting constantly with the other. He knew their Alpha was a good one--he cared for them all dearly, but the brunette still walked on eggshells. The question about his sleep had the boy shrugging, thumb tapping against his coffee mug. As Sabrina mentioned an odd dream, the omega perked up. "You too...? I had a really weird dream..." He explained, eyebrows furrowing in thought. What an odd coincidence.
The sound of another entering the kitchen caused Finn's head to raise, just in time to see River. He quite liked the other female, but the look in her eye let him know that she was about to lecture Asher. He watched as the pregnant woman grabbed the drunken man's ear and snapped at him, making sure to keep his distance. His eyes went back to the coffee pot, silently willing the damn thing to brew faster. He couldn't handle confrontation like this, and if it got worse, Finn knew he would have to leave. The sound of the front door opening distracted the male for a moment, and the entrance of Henry caught his full attention. He watched as the other man came over to join him, offering a weak smile in return for the greeting. The hand on his back startled the male, causing his body to stiffen and jolt forward ever so slightly. His hip knocked into the counter, but he didn't make a noise. The taller male's deep voice made a shiver run down his spine, and the scent of the fresh outside air didn't help. The omega did not like being touched without permission, and he would often keep his distance from people he did not trust. It was an honest involuntary reaction due to his past, but the harsh heart beating in his ribcage took his attention away. He was never good around other men--hell, half the time he thought he must look absolutely stupid. He was sure his cheeks were red out of embarrassment, pressing his smaller body closer to the counter as to give Henry all the room he needed. "Y-You're fine--sorry for getting in the way." He mumbled back, cursing himself almost immediately. God, he sounded pathetic.
As Jerimiah began to plate up the food, he barely caught Asher's drunken words due to his own flustered state. "J-Just Bacon for me, please." He said in response to the Alpha's question, his own answer a bit delayed. He heard Sabrina approach, allowing her to side hug him--which he gently returned. She was one of the very few he trusted wholeheartedly--both as his caretaker and as a mother figure. He often followed her around like a lost puppy, happy to have someone care for him. The coffee pot finally dinged, and Finn has never grabbed anything so fast in his life. He poured his coffee quickly, offering the pot to Henry with a slight smile. The sound of a drink being slammed on the counter had the omega jumping slightly, the coffee jostling in the pot nearly enough to spill over. His body went rigid, gripping his coffee mug tightly. He listened in silence as Sabrina disappointedly spoke to Asher, not chiming in. He had no place in this conversation, so instead, he would just awkwardly stand around and wait for his plate of food to be done. Backing away from the counter, the blue-eyed omega walked over to the table to take a seat--he would need to take his medications after he eats, so it was good timing. "Thank you for breakfast."

River O'Connor - Rivercrest Pack - Lead Scout

You could just about see the fumes of anger coming off of the young red-head as the man titled her as 'nugget'. Fists clenching and teeth grit as she glared harshly at the man, listening albeit impatiently to his half-hearted explanation as to why he should get away with such a thing as being this shit-faced in the early hours of the morning. As he moved around her nonchalantly and took a seat at the table, beginning to explain how this was 'somehow' Skyle and Sabrina's fault she had half the nerve to run over there and slap him a new one, however Sabrina beat her to the punch, albeit in a less literal sense than what she'd intended.

River let out a loud huff, hands trembling a little with rage as it was clear the already short-fused girls temper was spiked. Something akin to a sort of human-like growl escaping her as she turned and stormed out the door before she could do something she'd regret. After all, poor Finn was in there and didn't need to witness her loosing it, she'd get her revenge on Asher another time. The girl went over to the side of the pack house kicking lightly at the ground and muttering something under her breath in an Irish accent so thick anyone would have trouble deciphering it.

She could feel the hairs on the back of her neck spike, the cool air stinging her eyes as she almost forgot to blink for a moment. It seemed the more this pregnancy progressed the less control she had over her emotions, for lack of a better word it almost seemed like the girl was about to wolf out back there and bite the guys ankles if she hadn't left. Something that although would've been admittedly
somewhat deserved, scared her that she could feel herself loosing control like that. Leaning back against the wall she let out a long sigh, trying to remember some sort of breathing tactic her dad had said about calming down- or whatever....

Cheeks still flustered slightly red with annoyance she slapped them lightly before glancing down at her stomach with a stubborn expression,
"I blame you for this partly, Kiddo... But uh, mainly Asher." she said with a raised brow and oddly serious expression absentmindedly.

Lyla Monroe

Dawnguard-Scout

The young wife was nudged gently out of her restless sleep by her husband's soft touch. With eyes still closed, Lyla leaned into his warmth just as their daughter emitted her morning cries of loneliness. Before she could budge, Colby was out of bed and tending to little Lisa. She could hear his playful chiding over the monitor as she finally opened her eyes and swung her legs over the side of the bed. Pressing her slender fingers to her eyes she rubbed away the remnants of sleep plaguing the corners of her vision. The memory of a strange dream tugged at the edges of her mind but she ignored the thought and rose to meet her family in the other room. Already adorned in a pair of black leggings, Lyla padded to the dresser and pulled out a knitted sweater and pulled the deep purple fabric over her head before slipping on a pair of black flats that had been discarded by the door.

As she made her way into Lisa's room her tired eyes lit up with happiness at seeing Colby holding Lisa. "Good morning, my little love," Lyla's small, soft voice matching her stature. Gliding softly over to the pair she wrapped an arm around Colby as she let her fingers dance in front of the curious infant in his arms. Lisa squealed with excitement and lunged for her mother, Lyla extending her arm to catch the squirming girl. As she pulled Lisa into her arms she turned her gaze to Colby. "Why don't you go get ready, babe? I'll get nug changed and dressed, then head to the kitchen and get us some breakfast started?" Even though the words came out sounding like a question, Lyla didn't wait for an answer. Pushing up on her toes to compensate for her height (or lack thereof), she lovingly kissed her husband's cheek before tending to Lisa's very wet diaper.

As the Monroe girls headed into the kitchen Lyla noticed a figure by the window. She chuckled to herself, a little surprised that they weren't the first to rouse this morning. "Morning Monroe," Lyla chirped with a smile as she began fastening Lisa into a highchair. "Have you eaten, I'm gonna make some breakfast if you want some," she offered, needing to speak louder now to he heard over Lisa's protests at being put down.

Skyla Brannigan

Rivercrest-Enforcer

The brisk October air filled Skyla's lungs as she pushed herself through her daily path along the grounds. The sounds of the water gently lapping the shore was barely audible over the sound of her heart pumping. She had been up before her alarm, which was a rarity. Between the odd dream and the nights' unusual tossing it had been especially restless for Skyla. Despite the exhaustion she had been more than eager to pull on a pair of her worn black sweatpants and start her run.

As she approached the pack house she slowed her gait to a mild trot. She saw someone standing just outside the main door and it didn't take long for Sky to recognize the small figure as River. Her lips spread into a welcoming smile that fell as soon as she noticed the clear aggravation of the Lead Scout. "Oh no...who pissed you off this early," she asked with a furrowed brow. Taking a glance through the window panes of the door, Skyla tried to see who was inside that could possibly have had this effect on her. With a quick scan she noticed quite a few people in the main house, any of whom could have been the culprit. With her adrenaline wearing off, the chill of the morning was beginning to get to the slender girl. She tucked a strand of copper hair behind her ear that had escaped her tight ponytail before stuffing her chilled hands into the pockets of her well worn tan hoodie with a slight shiver. Sky shifted her stance as she looked again at River, waiting for either an explosion of an explanation or for the poor girl to burst into tears. The pregnant girl's emotions had been all over the place lately and Sky never knew what to expect.
