Breathe in, breath out. Breathe in, breathe out. The first rule in harnessing your mana is calmness. Learning to control your breathing, will allow you to tap into your worldly abilities! Without calmness, your mana frays and withers like a flame in the wind. Each and everyone one of you is capable of worldly things, and it is my job to bring it out of you. No matter your age or creed, I will mold you into the best Hunter you can become.

- Master Blanco

Mana - a simple, yet spiritual concept. Everyone has mana, however, not everyone can control it. Some cultures refer to it as Spirit Energy, whilst others see it as malicious and evil. The controlling and utilizing of this mana, is called Weaving. Sometimes referred to as Mana Weaving as well, the term Weaving refers to the practice of utilizing and mastering mana, 'weaving' it through your body like thread to perform different acts of Weaving Techniques. These techniques vary incredibly from individual to individual, and are subjective to the users' mana, personality, skill, etc. The techniques themselves are expelled through the usage of a weapon, most often a blade or sword made from a special material. However, this begs the question: Why would someone need to know all this?

~

Monsters lurk the world that humans live in. Feeding off other living beings, it can be said these monsters do not exist for any other reason, other than to just simply kill off humans. Why would the gods create such disgusting beings? That is something not even the wisest men know. However, with this hand humans have been dealt, the Monsters can be fought by utilizing the power of mana. The struggle between the two has been recorded throughout history, although he exact time frame that mosnters appeared in the world is not certain. They have been the reason for many deaths, and the reason that humans cannot venture outside alone. This is why any human capable of learning to Weave, is sent through training to combat these monsters, in hopes that one day there is no need to fear these beings. However, right now, that day seems far away.

The Academy of Lara Maxa is a school for the arts - the Art of Weaving, that is. A school for all ages and people, those that have a glimmer of mana control can enrol in the school to learn how to fight, and become Hunters. A curriculum includes everything from Mana study, Monster study, to practical exams and even field trips. Rumours state that other Academies like Lara Maxa exist in the world, however, that has not been confirmed.

Lara Maxa was a Hunter from yore, who began her own school from nothing, to what it is today. Although of course she is now deceased, a middle-aged man by the name of Vander runs the school as Headmaster. Accompanied by numerous staff and teachers, they run the school in hopes of creating Hunters that are willing to put their life on the line when push comes to shove. Every student is given a sword made from a material that allows them to utilize their mana, and this sword is their bread and butter when it comes to combat.

The Academy of Lara Maxa is situated in a town known as Glorias. Nestled in the mountains, this quaint town has a small bustling community with a market, taverns, and of course, houses for citizens. Students are permitted to go into town when they are not working or studying, however, they are not permitted to go out of curfew. Not following the rules can get students expelled. Study on, and become the best Hunter you can be.

~

Mana is free flowing, and subjective to each individual. Because of this, Mana can have differing properties for everyone. Traditionally, Mana follows the several Elements:
  • Lightning
  • Fire
  • Water
  • Air
  • Light
  • Darkness
  • Nature
Although these are the main elements, some elements can be considered to be sub-elements of the parent element. For example, Nature Mana generally encompasses earth-related techniques, however, plant-related techniques would be a sub-element of Nature. Same with Ice, and parent element being Water. It should also be noted, the sub-element would be the main element for the user. If a Hunter's mana was Ice elemental, then they would NOT be able to use the traditional Water. Scholars have been trying to sort through how this works, however, knowledge of mana is not as set in stone as many people would like, and as such, is unpredictable in nature.

Rules + World Rules

1. All Forum Rules Apply
2. This is a rather darker roleplay, so I guess I rate it "m" for all the usual stuff (swearing, some gore, adult themes). Please don't abuse this, and use it as an excuse to swear excessively or be crude or vulgar. I rated it this, to give a bit more freedom with writing.
3. No godmodding. I know this roleplay has mana and fighting and whatnot, but make the fighting realistic. If your character got hit, make sure you describe they actually got hit and not just shook it off like it was nothing ( a punch to the face does hurt).
4. No having multiple characters
5. No bunnying other characters without permission. However, something I do allow, is for you to bunny my character if you need to (you don't have to ask me, unless you think it is something out of the ordinary for my character to do).
6. Not really a rule, but please give me critique if you don't like something. For example, if you guys absolutely hate the whole chapter thing, then please let me know and I will most likely scrap it. With that said, if you have an idea for a chapter or want to have one revolving around your own character or whatever, please let me know.
7. Once again, not really a rule, however, I should note that this roleplay is not based around any existing franchise of the sort. It is simply my own creation.
8. This roleplay is a fantasy/medieval setting, keep in that mind.

As you can guess, your character will be a new student at the Academy of Lara Maxa. Their reasons for becoming a Hunter and learning at the Academy is up to them, however, you are eager to learn (hopefully). You hope to harness your power and make a change in this bleak, gloomy world.

Name: Hainer Adhan Moradi
Gender: Male
Age: 30

OBm1fMC.jpg

Appearance: Hainer stands tall, being around 191cm. Working in a local mill and the docks by the lake from a young age and generally working out, has given Hainer a rather strong, lean and muscular build at around 89-91kg/190-199lbs. His hair is black and somewhat short. He is generally clean shaven on the face, rarely growing out his beard. In terms of imperfections, there are no real or overbearing blemishes or acne on his face and his eyes are dark in colour, and his skin is a bit swarthy.

When Hainer isn't wearing his school uniform, he can be seen wearing a button up, cream-coloured tunic, with the sleeves ending right before his elbows. The sleeves are cuffed, and the tunic stops at the waist similar to his uniform. On top of this cream tunic, he wears a light blue Vest, with a red-violet colour for the inside of the vest, and gold trim on the outside. As for the bottom portion of his body, he generally sticks to his usual light brown pants, with the same dark brown boots.

Personality: Growing up working in different labour jobs, Hainer understands the discipline needed to work hard, and more importantly, to make a living. This is usually made apparent in his day to day life, where he generally helps out people who need it. Whether it be running an errand for someone, or helping elderly folk with something. He enjoys sparking up conversation with random people, and more often than not, gives people the benefit of the doubt when it comes to certain things. Because of this, there have been many times when he has been ripped off, or has the wool pulled over his eyes and taken advantage of. Despite this, it can be said that he is a rather just person by nature when it comes down to it.

Hainer is generally a logical person, however, he can be rattled easily if one were to push the right buttons. He does try to grasp situations with a level head to the best of his abilities, however that can not always be the case. All in all, Hainer does strive to be a good person, and does take his newfound studies at the Academy seriously.

Background: Hainer has a lived a very average life. His father and mother came to a small town in the country, from a further eastern nation over 30 years ago as a young couple, where they settled down in their new home. His father quickly found work at the local lumber mill, where Hainer would find himself often spending his days there doing whatever his father told him to do, whether that be chopping some wood, moving wood pieces, etc. Whatever he could muster up to keep his son busy. His mother had left when he was just a young boy, which meant that if Hainer wasn't outside playing with other kids, he was at work where his father could keep an eye on him. The town they were in was somewhat secluded, so it generally stayed away from Monsters, however, there had been several cases of people going missing or eaten by them. It was at his mill that Hainer would be spending much of the next phase of his life, before alternating between the two jobs and also working at the lakeside docks whilst doing work at the mill. Tough labour work definitely shaped his work ethic to what it is today, knowing the value of working hard to earn a living.

It wasn't until around reaching adulthood, where his father would succumb to a disease. Despite his father and mother having brothers and sisters, they did not live within close distance, or even known to be alive for that matter, leaving Hainer all alone in the world. It was around this phase, where Hainer realized he had an aptitude for his Weaving, and applied to become a student at the Lara Maxa Academy.

Element:
Ice (Sub-Element of Water).

Other:
Hainer is the name given to him by his mother, and that's the name he is generally known by. Adhan is also his name, and was given to him by his father. His mother's current whereabouts is unknown, even to Hainer.

Name
Yahno Cloudeye

Age
19

Gender
 Male

Appearance
c059a512f161e05369a8f79aa87d44a6599c43a7.jpeg.jpg

5ft10 lean build with muscle and scars thanks to living in the wild. Fair skin, dark hair, simple clothes... Yahno looks like a rugged prince whose family gave away or lost all their wealth. (He looks confident for a poor)

Personality
Yahno is a complex human being who can be boiled down to a few words.
Honest, Selfish, loyal, proud, kind, mean, horny... Yahno acts accordingly in any situation. He's scared when outmatched or in danger, cocky and assertive when he believes he is in control. Always looking out for himself but also willing to risk his well-being for those he calls friends or family.
In general though Yahno is the sort to do as he wants and speak his mind whenever possible.

Background
Yahno is from a simple village outside the protection of city walls and town guards. As a youth Yahno was taught to forage and hunt and it was in those areas he performed great, farming felt like work but being in the wild searching for food or game felt like a adventure. Around the age of thirteen Yahno discovered his affinity for magic, his mana being electricity was praised by the others in his village capable of weaving, with time and effort Yahno was able to use magic. Though it was impressive it certainly wasn't flashy or spectacular in a magic sense, Yahno's magic is essentially lucky shots with projectile weapons. No thunderbolts thrown or balls of electricity not even a flash in the sky.

Element
Thunder- though Yahno's weaving could be described as telekinesis it is done through weaving Electricity into a object and directing said object with mana. With time and effort he would most likely learn to conjure and throw electricity

extra
Favourite food is wild birds and squid. Though anything Yahno catches or kills he has a decent idea on how to cook and consume it.

Decent sneak this guy, gotta move quietly and not be seen if you want to hunt things that hunt back.

His "sword" or the materials used to make one would preferably be split into a boomerang and dagger/short-sword to better gel with his fighting style. Having grown up hunting animals and small monsters with only traps, arrows and boomerangs.

Aaand done.

Name
Taerynna Dyess

Age
24 years

Gender
Female

Appearance
Taerynna is a young woman wrapped in expensive, delicate garments; even her full figure appears fragile under the walls of the imposing building of the academy. Though not blessed with effortless beauty or a slender build by nature, every element of her appearence is carefully constructed from the dark, rich brown hair arranged into an intricate bun to the pair of practical shoes adorned with floral patterns.
Her round face generally carries an expression of openness, joy or wonder, and at the slightest excitement, rose blush spreads across her cheeks. Round, dark eyes glimmer from under gently curved eyebrows, and slight dimples in the corners of her mouth make her smile even more obvious. At the sides of her face glisten a pair of earrings in the shape of rose beetles, dragonflies or moths.
When not taking part in physical activity, she wears a pale green dress with a discrete square neckline, that is occasionally stained with mud or damp from morning dew due to her frequent walks outside. When it comes to training with a sword, she would change her usual garments to a loose shirt and pair of black trousers fastened with a wide belt. She would likely also wear a pair of gloves to protect her hands from getting callouses. When she settles in one place, when she strolls through a garden or sits down in a library, bees, butterflies, caterpillars, centipedes or small spiders tend to surround her.

IMG_20230430_110552.jpg

Personality
A noble by birth and by bearing, Taerynna has extensive knowledge on what is and isn't good manners. For example, she is painfully aware that she should be humble, while in reality, she is extremely competitive - not a sore looser, but definitely an annoying winner, to say the least. She also has the unladylike tendency to give her opinion even if noone asked for it - being as entitled as a woman of high society can. She much prefers being addressed 'properly', with her title and family name, when speaking to strangers.
On the other hand, she is at firsts glance good natured, willing to strike up a conversation, and she proves quite a polite listener as long as people don't stretch her boundaries too much. She is understanding when it comes to others' quirks, having a couple of her own.
Though she lacks in physical prowess, having trouble learning swordfighting, her mind is about as sharp as her blade. She hones her memory reciting poetry, and takes pleasure in reading in any of the few languages she knows. Gardening was an important part of her childhood, which made her willing to get messy and muddy on occasion.
She is proud of her relative independence and tries not to mind being called a spinster behind her back. In reality, she feels guilty for not establishing diplomatic ties for her family, trying to make up for it through making a name for herself as a hunter.

Background
Born the third daughter of the noble family Dyess, Taerynna never knew need or existential struggle. She got used to demanding the finest quality in everything, be it food, garments or education. She spent much of her time in the family estate's garden, trimming bushes or planting flowers with her mother and the gardeners in the family's service.
Though she and her two sisters got along, it soon became evident that Taerynna was somewhat of a misfit. She sometimes acted rather unfit for high society and had no success finding a worthy husband even when her two sisters were already married. The beetles did not help, either. Whenever she would feel frustrated, threatened or lonely, insects and spiders would be called to her, scaring off anyone who couldn't stomach their presence.
Truthfully, Taerynna had high standards, and was not willing to sacrifice her peace of mind for yet another diplomatic bond between two noble houses. Instead, she turned off every offer and dedicated herself to scholarly endeavours. She was trained by an elderly scholar, but also spent time buried in books in her free hours.
When she could not read in the garden because of the rain or snow, she would be found in the library. Thus, it was not long before she noticed the librarian's absence. After a short investigation, she learned that the family's employee left the curfew for research purposes, and never returned. Having no means to search further, she dropped the matter and hired a new scholar to tend to the many tomes in the family's collection.
Everyone was shocked when Taerynna decided to leave a sheltered life behind for the Academy, but she was hellbent on gaining respect for herself and her family. Though she had no experience with the sword and was warned that she would be putting her life on the line, she was eager to take on a new challenge.

Element
Insects (within the element of nature)

Other
I added the element of the missing family employee to provide a possible plot hook for the future, if needed.

Name
Lucoco

Age
25

Gender
female

Appearance
Standing at 5'5, Lucoco poses a rather ghastly appearance with her unhealthy pale skin, blood red eyes and brittle ear-length white hair. She has a lean slender build from years of trudging through abandoned ruins and running from monster (or guards). She has a large tribalistic tattoo of a serpent on her back. Her regular attire consist of a sleeveless black garb that allows for easy movement and a hooded red jacket with fur on its collar. She also oftenly carries a parasol to prevent her skin from getting sunburnt.

Personality
Lucoco, or Coco, is an outgoing person who likes to tease other people. She's also a trickster who prefers to use words and manipulation to solve problem, that or running if said problem involves monster. She rarely answer in a serious manner and oftenly use dark anecdotes she got from her travels casually, she also loves self-depreciating jokes.

Background
Coco grew up in an orphanage without ever knowing who her real parents were. She got adopted by a couple of rich merchants but they turned out to be abusive parents. Apparently they wanted her to became an exact replacement of their dead daughter and she got beaten up everytime she acts different than what they expect. She hated them so much that she desperatedly prays to god for them to be gone.

Her prayers was granted, but not in the way she expected. One night a monster managed to sneak into the mansion. Until this day Lucoco was still not sure what she saw that night, but it looks like something gooey that use dozens of mangled human corpses as some sort of protective layer while also controlling the corpse's limbs to move around like a human centipede. It killed everyone inside the mansion, the guards, the servants, her foster parents. The sight of their corpses plastered on the monster's body with their face frozen in eternal agony still haunts her. She survived by hiding inside a wine barell for the entire night. In the morning, she was found by a group of suspicious people called Ouroboros. Apparently they came to collect some interest on their loan but since the debtor were dead they decided to just legally take over the place.

Lucoco had nowhere to go and she decided to join the shady group. Her early years were rough as she got conned by her fellow group members left and right but she persisted and managed to make a place for herself as a treasure hunter, although the organization also oftenly assign her more varied tasks like stealing an object or debt collecting. She is still a member of Ouroboros to this day and even regards the godfather as a father figure. When her aptitude for weaving mana was discovered, the godfather ordered her to hone the talent and she entered the academy.

Element
Light

Other
  • Lucoco is a name she got from the godfather
  • She borns with normal color but lose her pigment during a job after she almost die to a monster
