Name: Muelar
Nickname: Chi
(only his father calls him Muelar. Called Chi on the streets)

Age: 23
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Straight
Species: Elf

Height: 6'8"
Notable Features: Points of both ears have been cut off almost to the base. He does little to hide this apart from his long shaggy hair. Sailors' tattoo spanning the length of his right arm of a ship being held aloft by a kraken in stormy seas. Various fish have different elvish symbols hidden in them and two angel fish representing his mother and baby sister.
Eye Color: Green
Hair Color: Dark red-brown

d93krgb-c1576de8-a87c-4449-b84b-bdf477dfd85b.jpg
Personality: Muelar has learned to read people, as such can be very charismatic and charming. However he keeps people at arms length and sees friendships as a form of currency. He is manipulative and cunning deal maker. Fair to those who don't cross him and ruthless to those that do. He has an image of himself as a gentleman of wealth but lacks all refinement and culture people expect to see in a person of such standing.

Likes: Sassy pretty women. Ale and rum of course. The smell of the sea before a storm. Money. Cats.

Dislikes: Humans who are too full of themselves. Elves who blames humans for their troubles and don't do anything about it. Dogs. People who cheat at cards (even if he cheats on occasion). Wine, because pretentious people drink it.

Combat Skills: Prefers one hand sword but knows how to use a musket. Hand to hand combat, knives and daggers.

Weaknesses: His own arrogance and youthful hubris. Almost always falls for flattery from a pretty girl. Hot headed; if insulted it will almost always come to blows. Tends to be greedy and measures reward ahead of the risk.

General Skills: Sailor by trade. Knows how to tie what knots for different uses. Can swim, read the tides, the winds and maps. Is able to read, write, and count coin.

Biography:
Muelar's parents were both born into slavery. His father (elf name Sartoris, slave name Black) belonged to a clan of seafarers, and were among the last to be assimilated into the system of slavery. Because of the clans history with sailing they were sold off to various harbor towns. Black's family tree has been rooted in Sulwen since they were first sold. However they and others on the docks have found ways to keep their heritage alive without their masters knowing.
In his late teens, a ship carrying explosive materials caught fire on its way into port. Black and a few others abandoned their post and jumped into the water in search and rescue of survivors. While the humans took their sweet time getting into the dinghies. The able bodied slaves pulled out ten men from the sinking wreckage, and swam them to shore on debris. Among those rescued was the son of the ships owner. As thanks, Black, was bought by the merchant and granted permission to work alongside the man he rescued. Here, in the household of his new masters, Black met his wife, Mouse. She was a fair woman in service to the lord's wife as a handmaid. She knew little of her elfish heritage only that theirs was among the first conquered and enslaved. A point of pride for the master as the girl had pedigree, and completely assimilated to the system of slavery. Black wooed and regaled her in the stories the dockworkers told in secret. It was with great reluctance that their master let the pure bred bitch marry a mutt.

father and son.jpg
The two were content, having reasonable masters, and a son who had the chance to live a better life than they had. Black continued to earn his position in service to the estates heir and continued to protect him from harm and rooted out information that would work to the lords advantage. When slavery was abolished, the master felt that they had earned a few freedoms. The three managed to rent a home in the slums, and continued to work as paid servants. When Muelar turned seven his father told him that when next they sailed that he would be coming with his father and the master to learn the trade. It wasn't the only surprise, his mother also announced that three would soon become four. In the months that followed life good. Muelar proved himself to be as useful as his father. The sailors called him Chick because he looked like a girl. It was meant to be insulting but he wore it with pride. By the time the ship returned to Sulwen, the men just called him Chi. At the docks they were greeted by his mother, who's belly swelled with new life. Outside the home elves began to envy them, and humans despised them.
Both sides agreed that the family had wealth and influence beyond their station.

It is unknown who attacked them that night. The horror wrought was an act of pure burning hatred.
Muelar remembers little, but he is haunted by the sight of his unborn sister's hand reaching out to him from the gash in his mother's belly.

Muelar woke in the slave quarters of the master's house. His father, Black, had a broken back and unlikely to ever walk again. His mother and sister dead and buried. Their attackers had beaten and cut off the points of their ears before leaving them all for dead. Muelar had to work twice as hard to make up for his father's disability. In the year that fallowed the master passed and the estate was inherited by the son. The spoiled fool spent more than was earned. Quickly running the company into the ground. Everything was sold off even the slaves with the exception of Muelar and Black. As a final act of "generosity" the two were given freedom papers. Muelar and his father had no were else to go but back to the hovel in the slums, masterless and without income.
Black took what work anyone would offer a cripple and ended up mending fishing nets on the docks. Muelar refused to give up the freedom his father had worked so hard for, and went from one short term job to another. Age ten, he managed to listen in on the right conversation at the right time. He started to sell information. When he was too old for that he became a courier for the underground. Over the years he developed his own connections in the smuggling ring and garnered the support of others who worked with him. Now he is known as a man who can get you nearly anything from drugs to young elf slaves. Little do the humans know that they are funding their own destruction.

Dream: Owning my own fleet. Having enough money and influence to turn the tides in the games humans play.
Greatest Fear: Failure. Failure to keep his father safe. Failure to win the game, and be shunned by elves and humans alike.
What Will You Do With the Money?:
Buy my own ship! The first of many. Maybe move into this rich man's home. Better yet make him pay rent.

1569330466046.png Shoal - Surgeon of Enlightenment WIP

Nicknames/Titles/Monickers:
"Many titles and names tend to circulate with my presence. Some monickers come between bitter speech, others in the lulls of the swelling tides of fear, granted, all are properly earned.
"The more superstitious folk of Sulwen you might hear refer to me as a phantom – the Phantom of Sulwen. Their ignorance is detestable, though the sentiment is mildly flattering, so I let their petulant murmuring persist. Those who are familiar with my profession, however, tend to use a different series of monickers when referring to me; The Black Market Surgeon, Wicked Herbalist, and The Infernal Alchemist – to name but a few. And while my reputation as a man of medicine and science certainly proceeds itself, those less familiar with my craft almost certainly know me as "The Cannibal Elf", which I find to be a rather blunt and ugly statement, wouldn't you agree? That is, however, the sort of lack of ingenuity once can expect from the dullards down by the docks."

Age:
22
Gender:
Male
Sexuality:
Bisexual

Height:
5' 10"
Notable Features:
∆ Climbing from his chin and up the left side of his face – just past his eyebrow – a jagged scar, like a crack in porcelain, disrupts the almost perfect symmetry of Shoal's face. Inquiring about the origin's of the wound, Shoal seems to be able to conjure up a unique story for every time he is asked.
∆ Two silver piercings on each ear. From the lobe a simple metal cross, and upon the upper cartilage, a small band wraps around his elven ear.
Eye Color:
Grey
Hair Color:
White

Personality:
In the eyes of common society, Shoal is a malignant abomination, a stain upon the face of the Sulwen Community – though one that must be acknowledged and oftentimes dealt with. His serpent-like heart bears no warmth or love for his fellow man, for in his eyes he is above all, a scientist born into a world of lab rats.
The spite and vitriol Shoal feels for others is frequently masked behind a thin veil of kinship, which is only ever used to gain what he wants.
Likes:
+ Food, of which he has very... questionable tastes
+ Science and experimentation, the gathering of knowledge
+ A good story
+ Talking about himself
+ Gardening. Has a strong affinity for carrion flowers and fungus
+ Money
Dislikes:
- The Church or any form of organized religion. Beliefe in deities prohibits the growth of the world's collective knowledge. Kill the Gods and eat their flesh!
- Beggers, people who search for handouts. Cull the weak where they stand.
- Alcohol and alcoholics. Tainting the liver – one of the tastiest parts of the body – is a mortal sin in... very particular circles.
- Children. They are terribly irritable.
- Those who might claim to be above him. No one is above Shaol.
Combat Skills:

Shoal is not trained for traditional combat. He is, however, exceedingly clever. Dangerously so. Do not engage.
Weaknesses:
- Shoal has little in the ways of physical might. Though he is lithe and agile if ever put into a test of raw strength, there would be little the surgeon could do.
- Compassion is a foreign subject to Shoal. Caring for others, unless there is something to gain from doing so, is generally out of the question. This can put Shoal in a bind when forced to work with others.
- Though firmly against the use of alcohol, Shoal is known to use other "mind-altering" substances. Opiates and amphetamines tend to be his drug of choice, though he will take just about anything that can get him high.

Rat
592b8b25cfd5feee400f7f0f782287d0.jpg
Name(s): Rat
Nicknames(s): Rat the Barbarian, Rat the Feral, Rat the Beast
Age: 21
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Bisexual

Height: 6’08”
Notable Features: Her long, wild hair, with trinkets, beads, and leather strips braided into it seemingly at random. Four simple iron earrings around the edge of each ear and a small iron chain earring on each ear lobe. Numerous large scars on her arms, legs, and body. A tattoo of “sponsorship” (read: ownership) circling her left bicep. Her general tall-and-beefiness.
Eye Colour: Icy grey
Hair Colour: Jet black at the roots fading out to moonlight grey/white

Personality: Rat is not a gentle giant, but while her ferocious fighting can make her appear animalistic and vicious, she is not cruel. She will fight tooth and nail to survive, but will not revel in the pain or suffering of others, at least with elves - she is deeply distraught at the number of elves she has had to kill. A human walking into something or stubbing their toe has elicited a quiet chuckle, but she’s not yet had the chance to see a human truly suffer to see how she reacts. Not that she hasn’t thought about it. Such thoughts have thus far left her feeling conflicted.

She was never given the chance to be book-smart, and her harsh upbringing has made her pragmatic and a stark realist, with fleeting moments of timid emotion and weakness only when alone or with elves she trusts. Despite her strength Rat has always acted subservient to humans, having learned early that any rebellion or violence toward her masters invokes swift and terrible retribution. Her obedience has kept her out of trouble more than once, and the times it hasn’t? Well, at least she can take a punch.

Likes: Small critters like rats, mice, and spiders, sweet treats and drinks, quiet relaxation, mulled wine, the moon
Dislikes: Loud noises, abandoned buildings, ghosts and the paranormal, scratchy blankets, statues
Combat Skills: Rat is physically very strong, and has developed impressive hand-to-hand and knife fighting skills from her life as a gladiator slave. She is adept at improvising both weapons and moves, and is not afraid or ashamed of fighting dirty. Biting, aiming for sensitive areas, exploiting injuries, all is fair when your life is on the line.
Weaknesses: Her leg injury, her deeply ingrained obedience to humans, her life of poverty has made it hard for her to ignore food when it’s presented to her, she is illiterate (slaves were for working, not for learning)
General Skill(s): Fighting, heavy lifting, basic triage with minimal equipment, negotiating through intimidation

Biography: Born into slavery, Rat was sold away from her mother through the black market to various owners throughout her childhood. Given the name Rat by her second or third master, she doesn’t remember exactly which, she was put to work cleaning, or doing housework, or carrying things. Any disobedience or substandard performance was met with harsh punishment, and she learned her place quickly.

In her teens she was sold to a gentleman in Sulwen for use in underground bloodfighting, a supposedly illegal sport that pitted elves against each other in bloody scrapes, usually to the death. Her owner was pleased to see her win her first fight against another elf, probably a year or two younger than her. Rat was in no place to be traumatised, at least outwardly, so she could only keep fighting at his behest.

She grew, and as she grew taller she also grew stronger, honed by the bloody spectacle of the profession chosen for her. She earned her master a lot of money, or it seemed like a lot of money to her if only because he did not punish her quite so often any more. The fights kept coming and she kept winning, taking no joy in each victory other than living to see another day. The thought of losing on purpose had crossed her mind more times that she could count, seemingly the only way out of her situation, and the only way to stop killing the poor elves she was put up against. But she didn’t. Perhaps it was a kind of vile bloodlust. Perhaps it was cowardice. Rat cried herself to sleep often, not knowing the answer.

Finally the day came. A fight against a larger male elf, they introduced him as Muck or Mutt or something like that. It was a knife fight, she’d been in many before and preferred them, a thought that frightened her sometimes. But it was still better than the savagery of beating someone to death with her hands. He was fast, and strong, and he scored a good deal of slices and cuts across her arms and body as she managed to inflict much the same to him. It could have been a long, drawn-out bloodbath had he not out-maneuvered her.

He stuck her in the leg, deep, down to the bone, and only a lucky reflexive swipe of her blade managed to catch his throat and win the match for her. She had staved off an immediate death but she was hurt, worse than she ever had been. While his knife hadn’t caught her main arteries the damage to her leg was severe, and it took a good while for her master to come to a decision about her recovery. He decided it was too much money and hassle to get her healed and back into fighting shape, opting instead to buy a couple more promising fighters to take her place.

As such, Rat was left to her own devices, thrown out on the street with only the reddened bandages on her leg and the ragged clothes on her back. Her leg did slowly heal, but badly. Mercifully, she could still move and walk, but now with a noticeable limp. Trying to run too much or too fast, or trying to dodge and weave as extensively as she did while fighting only served to pull at the wound, which in turn sent pain stabbing through her.

Unable to properly fight for money any more, she resorted to begging and accepting whatever jobs some of the more open-minded and charitable inhabitants of Sulwen offered, few as they were. It was almost a year before Ephraim Dennet approached her on the street with a chance to earn enough money to buy freedom from her own life. Perhaps he recognised her from the fights in the years hence, or perhaps he saw a tall, strong elf as the best chance of getting past the Lullin defences. Rat didn’t know, but she was in no place to ask. This was an offer she couldn’t afford to pass up.

Weapon: A couple of mismatched knives she picked up off the street, her strong, calloused fists, and anything heavy that she can reliably lift, swing about, or bring crashing down on her opponent.
Dream: A quiet life in a small village, able to do small-village things like tend to a garden, wave to people over her fence, and listen to the birds in the morning. She could learn to read there.
Greatest Fear: Being healed of her lingering wounds and thrown into an arena at Lullin, forced to fight for the Tremaynes and their ilk until she can finally muster up the courage to either let an opponent win or end her life herself.
What Will You Do With the Money: Buy passage to some other country, far away from the Tremaynes, and Lullin, and Sulwen, and everything she has known. Somewhere quiet.

Biography

Eliza’s parents were both slaves in a small, coastal village. Her Dad works on the boats, mostly remedial tasks such as scrubbing, cleaning the boats. Her Mom worked in the master’s kitchen, her younger sister swept floors in the house. Eliza worked the fishing nets when the boats went out to fish. In the winter she would help in kitchen and she became good with small knives. With her small hands she would also pick locks when the master misplaced keys.

On a day she went out to sea, a storm suddenly appeared and threw the boat out to sea. Eliza being frightened of the storm hid inside a small crawl space. The boat was completely wrecked, everyone else perished into the sea or died in the crash when the boat eventually hit land.

Eliza thought about going home but she worried that her master would be furious and beat her. Her master did beat Elves in the past when things went wrong, even when it wasn't their fault. Instead she went through the debris and pick up items of value from dead crew and the boat. She collected a couple daggers, a bunch of coins, . She hid the fishing nets that could come in handy.

She walked to a small town and at night she snuck into the town. She picked the lock of a clothing store and stole proper nobles clothing so she wouldn’t look like a slave; also taking a comb so she could have her long hair cover her ears to hid her elvish heritage, if need be.

As she was sneaking out of town, she ran into a merchant. She began getting her daggers ready to strike when he presented an intriguing quest that offered vast riches.

Nickname: Fox
Name: Atlas
Age: 22
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Straight
Species: Elf

Fox is a harpooner working for whaling ships. When he wins at cards he grins like a devil. His greatest downfall is that he likes wine, but only the kind he cannot afford.

"Beautiful day, innit?"
[div class="tabsContent tab2" style="display: none;"] [/div][div class="tabsContent tab2" style="display: none;"][DIV class=textMain]Appearance:

Fox is a tall wiry lump of trouble. When he talks his hands flail around wildly, sometimes making a stray move for his listener's pockets.

Notable Features:
His ears are noticeably short for a pureblood. Among elves it is a good target for mockery.

Height: 190cm / 6'2" (moderately tall)
Eye Color: Green
Hair Color: Sandstone

Clothing
- A bright orange hood, usually folded like a scarf to cover half the face.
- Terribly worn leather jacket. It is in fashion among the navy, but only when its new and does not stink.
- Woven fingerless gloves.
- Patched up pants and leather boots.

Personality:

Fox likes to tell tall tales of his adventures at sea. How he confronted a giant albino sea serpent or that one time he had to walk the plank for making a stew out of a captain's parrot.

Goal: Gold and status
Greatest fear: Slavery / Debt
What will you do with the money: Start a business.

Combat Skills:
  • Harpoon, although most long staff weapons will work.
  • Unarmed brawling - stronger while drunk.
  • Acrobatics - exceptionally agile.
Weaknesses:
  • Bad at navigating forests
  • Cannot move stealthily in nature
  • Prone to spontaneous outbursts of temper
General Skill(s):
  • Swindling
  • Seafaring
  • Bargaining

[/div]
[/div][div class="tabsContent tab3" style="display: none;"] [/div][div class="tabsContent tab3" style="display: none;"][DIV class=textMain]Origin:

Fox's real name is Atlas.

He was born to a family of farmers who lived beside an ancient forest. His parents, grandparents and their parents' parents have been looking after that forest, so when a human lord claimed it as his own, they weren't going to leave. They were going to serve.

The lord took in young Atlas to train as his personal attendant. The intent was to indoctrinate the boy from early years into a faithful servant of the household and, along the way, establish a more favorable relationship with the locals.

The lord's table was never empty in the toughest winters. His roof never leaked in the hardest rains. It was there, inside the lord's lavish mansion, that Atlas learned of luxury. The lifestyle and freedom that can be bought with gold and status.

The realization only truly sunk in after he had to go home. The lord had died, and his successor was not so careless as to keep an elf spawn nearby.

At home Atlas returned to the frugal lifestyle that he had nearly forgotten. The grumbling belly and work that did his hands in bloody. He ran away.

In a town the boy was picked up by a traveling circus. Do funny things, earn coin. Fascinating premise for a boy in his early teens. Also, they named him Fox and that was bloody awesome.

Yet tightrope and juggling do not earn you mansions. Whaling might. Or so Fox had thought before he spent the next few years drifting from one crew to another. It was the meanest life he had ever known, but the promised riches kept him going.

Until the last trip left him penniless. The captain had taken a fee for a bad catch from the entire crew and Fox had to pay double. Elves always pay double.
