Are We Heroes?

Introduction

Somewhere between the 21st and 22nd century, the human race has all but progressed at rapid rates, war was a thing of the past as the Human race looked to the stars to expand. In the Alpha Centauri system a string of planets were discovered to be habitable, the three planets were Terra, Hera, and Eden, and shortly after were colonized. The Humans sought to develop a strong base off these three planets, allowing for the planets to thrive and expand on the planets. Terra was developed into a Port world for ship building, Hera was developed as a Colony planet, and Eden was developed as a Fortress world, being the farthest out of the three planets from the Star in the center.

As Humans progressed, they ventured further into what they already know, their military technology also progressed, allowing fusion and ballistic technology to reach points never sought before. The humans visualized one technology as a platform for these two, fifteen to twenty foot tall multipurpose combat platforms, known as Gladiators. Gladiators were heavily armed, and were capable of Ship-To-Ship Engagements and Travel provided they were within range of their boosters. The mech's also relied off the link with a specific human's nervous system. The system was called the Neuro-Link. However the flaw with these platforms were if the pilot were to enter cardiac arrest, or the mecha were to reject the user based off the Hybrid AI to adjust for human reaction speeds, would cause the mech to have a catastrophic meltdown followed by a small thermo-nuclear explosion within the fusion core of the mech. There was a fail safe prototype installed, allowing for the Hybrid AI to take over and protect the Pilot at all cost at the event of cardiac arrest or unconscious, however there was a flaw with this as well as in such cases the AI would target friendlies as a result of a glitch in the system, an error with the Friend-Or-Foe Sensory Systems causing the AI to engage all threats. This however would become their greatest weapon.

As time progressed and life thrived on Terra, Hera, and Eden, Earth on the other hand disappeared from contact, with quantum-communication's arrays having been set up, it was unlike the Earth to just vanish, or let alone send trade ships. Speculation soon began to rise as Earth has all but abandoned the three planets, and amongst this view unrest began to spread across the three planets. In-order to control the unrest, a government was established on Hera, called the United Colony Initiative. However this government was established too late as population has reached a breaking point among Terra, and a revolt was started. As the UCI tried to contain the situation on Terra, it sent it's main military fleet to quell the uprising.

As the UCI sought to handle this uprising swift and quickly, they displaced ships soon to blockade the planet, allowing no civilian craft to get through. One group however, notorious on the planet as being a form of "space faring pirates", broke through this blockade using a Gladiator armed with a high velocity armor penetrating harpoon gun and explosives by sacrificing one pilot to destroy one frigate single handed, opening a hole in the blockade. The UCI learned from this tactic, and visualized one way to defeat it, escort operations with their own Gladiators. However as more and more pirates sought to rise up against the UCI, this task of putting down an easy rebellion, wasn't so easy after all. Now the questions of what happened to Earth and what will happen to these colonies are at hand.
