Apocalypse Nearing (Young Justice)(Crysie x Saberwolf00)

Dick sighed as he finished up reading over the profiles of the new teammates that were joining the Team. "Hey Kal, how you feeling about the two new people that are joining?" He asked his friend, turning his head and looking at his friend. Dick himself was feeling pretty okay with getting new people, but he felt like it was a little too soon. Especially since Wally had just left them along with some other people who wanted a break from all of this madness, he doesn't blame them though, even he himself had to take a few months off in order to get himself sorted out. He pulled up the profile pictures of the two new recruits. A boy and a girl.

Sighing, he stepped back from the keyboard of the holocomputer to take a better look at the two before checking the time. "They should be here soon with Batman." Dick said when he checked the time. Sighing, he runs a hand through his hair, "It bugs me that we know little about them."

"It saddens me that we've lost so many members that the additions are necessary, but..." He looks Dick in the eyes. "It will be nice to have the help." The images Dick brought up on the holographic screen of the new recruits had been on his mind a great deal. He wasn't surprised to hear that it bothered his friend to be in the dark so much about the new recruits. It bugged him a little as well, and there were a couple of things they knew that worried him, but overall he was confident that they would be solid addition to the team. Besides, even if things went poorly it wouldn't likely be anything they couldn't handle. All that they had been through made them stronger.

"I should go let the others know that they'll be here soon. Let me know if anything comes up before then." He gave a friendly nod to Dick before walking out of the room to gather the rest of the team.

The rest of the team were all sitting in the lounge and kitchen area. Conner and Megan sat as close together as they could on one of the couches, Robin was typing away on laptop, and it looked like Cassie had just walked into the kitchen. Kaldur cleared his throat to gain their attention before speaking. "The new arrivals will be shortly. I think it would be best if we all were there to greet them."

"Oh my gosh, that's today?" Cassie beamed, looking at the calendar that hung in the kitchen. "Oh my gosh, we're getting new people." She grinned. "When are they suppose to come in?" She looked up at the clock that hung on the wall that read 8:48. She bounced up and down excitedly, unable to contain her eagerness to meet the two new recruits.

Dick sighs and closes the images before pulling up a mission profile that he was compiling. He kept track of the time as he was putting the file together. When the clock hit nine, he called the others into the mission room over the intercom. He watched as the Zeta Tube powers up. "Recognition Batman 0-2, Chimera 3-1, Nightmare 2-4." The AI announced as the Batman appeared with two teens behind him. "Nightwing, these are the two new recruits." Batman told his former protege as he walks up to him and stands next to him.

The female, Nightmare, looked around the place, taking in every single detail of the room. She was dressed a black suit with silver lining and a mask that covered the lower half of her face, and her hand was covered with a pair of black leather gloves.

"Welcome to the Team, I'm Nightwing. The rest of the team should be here any second." Dick gave the two a slight smile before turning his head towards the hallway, expecting to see the rest of the Team to come filing through any second.

Cassie ran into the mission room the moment Dick called them to the mission room. "Oh! They're here! Hi, I'm Wonder Girl, but you can call me Cassie." She greeted her two new members with a grin as she stood a little ways behind Dick, waving her hand at the two.

Serena (Nightmare) waved back politely, nodding her head, acknowledging Cassie's greeting.

Unlike the other new member he had arrived with Jared wasn't wearing any sort of costume or disguise. It's not like it would have done him much good; maintaining a secret identity wasn't much of an option for individuals whose "differences" were so obvious. His clothing was rather simple, but suited his needs. One of the few forms of footwear he didn't have to worry about his claws tearing through, a pair of dark brown sandals. A pair faded jeans and a green zipped up hoodie over a black t-shirt, all of which was loose fitting so not to impede his movements.

Jared waved back at the blonde girl, Cassie. She seemed rather excitable and energetic, nice too. He was about to introduce himself when the doors that Cassie had come in through opened again. The rest of the team came through, with Kaldur in front. He walked up to the two of them and shook their hands. "The new recruits, we've been expecting you. Let me officially welcome you to The Team. My name is Kaldur'ahm. You may know me as Aqualad, but you can call me Kaldur." He gestures to the three who came in behind him in order. "Miss Martian, Superboy, and Robin."

The new boy smiled. Everyone seemed very friendly, and none of them even seemed to be phased by his appearance. Of course if he had seen some of the previous members that wouldn't be at all surprising. "I'm Jared or as the computer called me, Chimera. You guys can go with either one you want. I don't really mind." If anyone looked closely they might notice something moving under his shirt.

Serena's eyebrow irked up slightly when she saw his shirt twitch. "Did you sneak your pet in or something?" She asked, pointing at the area of his shirt that she saw move. She thought she was seeing things, but when she saw it move a few times she was convinced that she was not insane or seeing things. "Oh, just call me Nightmare for now." She told everyone as her eyes trailed over them, taking in their appearances. She didn't feel like tell them her name yet, she just didn't quite trust them fully to let them know her name. She relaxed slightly as she felt the inviting energy of the place.

"Well, I'll leave your new teammates to you guys." Batman told them before taking his leave.

"Well, welcome, again. Kaldur will give you a tour of the base, I would do it but I'm a bit occupied." Dick told the two newbies before turning back to working on the files.

"Don't mind him, he's always like that." Cassie said with a smile. "Come on, the place is pretty big and we don't want you guys getting lost." She urged, walking towards the entrance of the hallway.

Serena remained quiet as she followed the group, not wanting to get lost later on. As they were doing the tour, she engraved every little turn and detail into her mind, making a mental map of the place and storing it in her mind. The place had a homey feel to it, and it made Serena feel comfortable in a way. It made her just want to curl up on a couch with a blanket and sleep. It's also been a while since she ever felt this way, she missed the feeling. She had a feeling that she was going to stick around for a while.

Jared's face turned bright red and his arms shot down to hold whatever was moving in place. "No... I uh I don't have a pet. That was my stomach, I'm really hungry. Yeah like really really hungry. Definitely not a tail..." The last few words were virtually inaudible, and certainly incomprehensible to those with normal hearing. He was obviously lying, but perhaps his embarrassment would deter any further questions.

Kaldur nodded to Batman in response as he left. "If you two will follow me we can get started. Anyone else who would like to come along is welcome to." The recently reunited couple seemed to want some time away from the others and went off on their own. Robin was nowhere to be found, it seemed he shared the habit of disappearing when you weren't looking with his predecessor and his mentor. That only left Cassie but seeing how she seemed to have already decided to join them. Kaldur opened the doors he and the others had originally come in through and motioned for the two recruits to follow.

"The place we just came from is the mission room ((I assume from the description)), consider it the first stop on the tour. Next up is the med bay." The group soon came to a room filled to the brim with the most cutting edge medical equipment. "Hopefully none of us will need to be spending any time here, but should you need medical attention our facility is one of the most advanced on the planet." Jared recognized a few pieces of equipment from all the time he had spent in places like this, it made him feel a bit uneasy. When the others were ready to move on Kaldur would lead them through a few of the more mundane spots like the showers or the locker rooms. They stopped in the workout room next. "This facility is open anytime to you if you wish to train. There are machines and equipment designed for a variety of people so you should be able to challenge yourselves regardless of where your physical abilities stand."

Jared's curiosity was piqued by a strange looking treadmill. He didn't know much about machines like this, but it looked powerful. His assumption was correct. It had in fact been designed for those capable of reaching superhuman speeds, the team's fallen speedster in particular. He glanced back to the rest of the group as Kaldur spoke up. "Do either of you have any question so far?"

Serena paid close attention to Kaldur as he gave the tour. She was quite amazed by the whole layout of the place, and all the rooms and stuff. She really wanted to test out some of the equipment in the recreation room. The one room that she was dead set on avoiding at all cost though was the lab and maybe the medical bay. Her full attention to Kaldur when he asked them a question.

She politely shook her head in response, "Nope, no questions so far. Oh, wait, what do you guys do when you're not out and about missions? Is there a spot to chill around here?" She was actually fairly curious about that because she heard that some of the team members actually live here at the base. So, in her mind, if this was a housing are of sorts then wouldn't there be a place to hang out and such. It would make sense to have such an area if you're housing teens and young adults.

"Hey Kal, Canary is here to test and evaluate the new recruits. So, bring them back to the mission room. Everyone else come to, mandatory training session." Dick said over the intercom system of the base when the Justice League member arrived. He himself wasn't looking forward to the training session, but nothing he could do about it. He was actually fairly curious about the new recruits' abilities, there wasn't much about it in their profiles, and he was hoping that after the training session he would have that section of their profile filled out pretty well.

Serena sighed at the word 'test' and 'evaluation', she didn't want to get beat up within the first hour of being on the Team. But, no use complaining, she had to get it done sooner or later, and she preferred sooner than later.

"Well that would depend on who you ask. Some train, others like to relax." Kaldur answered. "And yes, we have a lounge for that. There's even a kitchen adjacent to it if you get hungry. We can go there next if you'd like." Jared's ears perked up at the mention of the kitchen and his gaze snapped over to Kaldur. His small stature and slender frame belied his bottomless pit of a stomach. Kal spoke up again. "If there's nothing else we can move on to-" He was cut off mid sentence by Dick's announcement. "I nearly forgot, the rest of the tour will have to wait till another time." Kaldur lead the group back to the mission room for the testing.

Jared's face shifted into a frown when he heard about the evaluation. Normally he would be excited for some sparring and training, but he knew he wouldn't be able to fight at his best and continue to hide the one part of his inhuman physiology he was actually embarrassed of. He put his hand at his side and felt the makeshift harness that held the end of his tail in place. It's appearance didn't bother him in the slightest, but what it did that mortified him. Like the majority of canines his tail had a mind of its own and would wag back and forth when he was excited or happy. On it's own that would be a bit embarrassing but the problem arose that aside from the fur that covered all but the bottom of it, it was a reptile's tail. It was powerful and heavy, and when combined with the speeds his body was capable of reaching... Well, things he had his back to had a tendency to end up broken. Oh well, maybe it was for the best to get this out of the way sooner than later.

The doors slid open in front of group when they arrived. "It's strange to think that only a little over five years ago we were the ones being tested like this. It's good to see you again Canary. I hope you're doing well." Kaldur walked up to the woman and then pointed over to Serena and Jared. "Which one would you like to test first?"

Serena pouted slightly when they were called to the evaluation, she really wanted to see the lounge and kitchen. Plus she was a little hungry, so she kinda wanted to eat a bit. Oh well. She followed Kaldur as he led them back to the mission room, where everyone else was waiting for them along with a blonde hair woman dressed in black who stood at the center of the room along with Dick. Serena wasn't going to deny it, she felt slightly intimidated by the woman, well, more than slightly, she was very intimidated by Canary. "Whelp, guess it looks like we're going to get our butts kicked on the first day." Serena sighed as she stretched her arms above her head. She actually kind of wanted to go first, just to get things done and over with. First one up first one done.

Canary nodded at Kaldur, acknowledging him, "I am doing quite fine, thank you. As for who first, any, if they don't pick among themselves then I'll just flip a coin to pick." She eyed both of the new recruits up and down, taking in their appearance. There wasn't much in the database about them, and she was fairly curious as to what their abilities are and such. Even though she had save Serena from the lab herself, she didn't know much about the girl or what they did to her down in the lab.

"Alright, don't be shy, she doesn't bite- she only kicks and punches." Dick joked, chuckling. "But the test is simple, you just fight her until she says stop since it's just an evaluation for you two." He was going to utilize this opportunity to fill out their profiles as he watched them fight.

Serena looked at Jared, "You wanna go first? Because I can go first if you want."

Jared had to take a moment to think it over. If he went first he could get any potential embarrassment out of the way quickly. But if he went second he wouldn't have to go into the fight blind. The boy glanced over at Canary. He didn't really know anything about her or most of the other members of the Justice League. She didn't look especially threatening or powerful, but that didn't mean she wasn't. After a bit more deliberation he decided that it would probably be better to go second if the other recruit was alright with it. "If you want to go first go ahead, but I can if you don't want to."

Kaldur looked over the two about to be evaluated. He wondered which one would be able to last the longest. Based off of the information available he had his suspicions but he wasn't entirely sure; both of them likely had a few tricks up their sleeve. He walked over to the two of them. "So, have you reached a decision?"

Serena let out a deep breath and nodded, "Yeah, I'll go first." She was probably going to regret her decision later on, but might as well get it over with. She just didn't like the fact that she was going in knowing nearly nothing. She has seen Canary fight once or twice, she knew about her sonic scream, but that was pretty much it. She didn't know the woman's fight style or anything.

Sighing, Serena stepped forward and stood before Canary at the center of the room. "Good luck, you need it. Like, a lot." Cassie said, waving to the girl.

Serena let out a deep breath, 'Oh I'm so going to need all the luck I can get.' She thought as she looked her opponent up and down. "Well, I'm ready." She told Canary, getting into a fighting stance. She wasn't going to pull out her weapon yet, she wanted to test the waters first. Plus she couldn't reveal everything to her teammates just yet. All she was planning on using was her illusion ability, nothing more nothing less. If she had to then she'd pull out her other abilities, but for now she wasn't.

(You play Canary while she fights against me, I'll play Canary when it's Jared's turn.)

Canary smiled at the young woman. "Don't worry. The goal here is to see where you are and how we can help you improve, not to hurt you." She was interested to see just what she could do. She took a brief moment to look at her stance before quickly closing the distance. She was only in front of Serena for a moment before stepping to the side and throwing a quick jab.

Jared didn't take his eyes off of Canary for a moment once she started moving in. He looked for openings or tells of some sort that he could take advantage of when he was up. Of course Black Canary was one of the best hand to hand fighters on the planet, even on the off-chance he did find something it wouldn't be much help.

Kaldur patted Jared on the should before walking over to where Dick was and standing next to him. "So, which one do think will give her the most trouble?

Dick looked at the two for a moment. "Hm... I don't know... But... I feel like Jared would since he's going second so he'll have a better idea of Canary for when he goes up against her, Nightmare's just going in blind right now. She's has to figure things out on the fly, so I don't think she'll give Canary much trouble." Dick said after a few seconds of thought.

'Shiet she's fast!' Serena was really taken back from Canary's speed. Sure she expected her to be fast, but not that fast. She barely managed to dodge the jab and back step away from Canary. She quickly invaded Canary's mind, keeping herself hidden in there to read Canary's movements. She had an easier time dodging Canary's attacks because she could foresee them from Canary's thoughts. Of course, some did land because Serena just wasn't as fast as Canary. Serena managed to put some distance between her and Canary before pulling out her whip.

"Wow, she's dodging most of Canary's attacks, that's amazing. How is she doing that? Even I can't dodge that much of Canary's attacks." Cassie said in an amazed voice as she watched the fight.

"Yeah... How..." Dick was carefully analyzing the girl to see how she was doing it.

Interesting, Canary thought to herself. She kept up her attacks till Serena backed away and brought out her whip. It was time to change things up. Let's see how she deals with this... Canary let loose a weak cry at Serena. Nowhere near what she would use on an enemy, but it would still hurt.

Jared winced and covered his ears, even though it wasn't in his direction it was painful. The confidence he had built up from studying her movements was shattered. Even if he could keep dodging her attacks one direct hit from that and he was going to be out for the count. Maybe if he asked nicely she wouldn't use it on him?

Serena quickly rolled out of the way and off to the side. 'Crap, I'm going to have to avoid her whole front side.' She thought before snapping her whip at Canary's face, hoping that would get her to stop sending her sonic screech at her. 'Ugh, can't get hit by that.' She knew that if she got hit by that then her balance would completely thrown off.

Dick's eyebrow lifted slightly as he watched the fight. His eyes glanced over at Jared when he covered his ears. "Actually, Nightmare might give Canary a harder time. Jared might be down if Canary uses her sonic scream." He told Kaldur, nodding at Jared who had his ears covered. Dick continued to watch his new teammate and Canary with interest, wondering what Serena was going to do next.

Kaldur nodded in agreement with Dick. "I suppose it might come down to how long it takes her to use it on him." Jared of course could hear everything they were saying, and it wasn't making him feel any better about his turn coming up.

Canary turned her head to Serena and smiled. With Serena still in her head she would know what was about to happen. Canary grabbed the end of it as it came towards her head and swiftly moved her arm in a circle, wrapping the whip around it before yanking it and Serena forward. She would take a swing at her once she was within arm's reach.

Serena quickly regained her foot and and used her telekinesis to pull Canary towards her instead, utilizing the fact that Canary had her whip wrapped around her hand to help pull her towards her. She was going to give Canary a good kick when she was close enough. Well, she hoped that she could. She didn't know how Canary was going to react until it happened, and there was definitely no time for her to react to something Canary was going to pull at last minute. Serena herself needed time to react, and she couldn't do that if Canary was in her face.

Canary quickly adjusted to her newfound forward momentum and took advantage of hit. She sprang upwards and flipped gracefully through the air over Serena. Her body spun around as she landed and would sweep Serena's legs out from under her with her own. If she fell down Canary would hold her down with one arm and pull the other back like she was about to throw a punch in order to show her that the fight was over.

Even Jared was having some trouble keeping up Canary's movements, and it looked like he might be up shortly. He wasn't exactly thrilled about it.

Serena quickly jumped up, avoiding the sweep kick. She quickly searched Canary's mind to see what she was going to do next. Although she highly doubt that she would be able to avoid whatever Canary was planning on throwing at her. Serena was just to close in range to Canary. By the time she saw the attack coming it would have already came, leaving her no time to react. She had to get away from Canary if she wanted to last any longer. Dropping her whip, she back flipped away from Canary to create some distance. She was in a tight spot, she couldn't come up close to attack Canary, she had to avoid her whole front side all together. Serena started to feel slightly irritated as she tried to think of a way to fight Canary.

Even if Serena could read her mind she simply couldn't keep up with her body. Canary on the other hand was able to read her movement and didn't let up on the pressure. A split second after Serena retreated Canary had already started sprinting forward and was already right up in front of Serena as she landed. She threw a quick jab at Serena and would then go for a grab to take her to the ground. She was impressed with Serena so far, she was keeping up better than expected.

Serena let out a small squeal as she dodged the jab, only to trip over her own feet and tumble to the ground. She quickly rolled and got back on her feet. She didn't know if she could keep this up any longer. Canary was a lot faster than she had thought. Serena was actually debating on if she should just throw in the towel. There was no way she could keep up with Canary, and she knew that the league member was holding back. Of course, she was holding back herself, she wasn't using her powers. Unfortunately, Serena wasn't a quitter, she was going to keep going until Canary had knocked her down.

Canary hung back for a moment after Serena recovered from her trip. "You're really not bad for having little to no experience. But I think it's time to push you to your limit." Canary unleashed another weak sonic cry on the girl, and once again Jared had to cover his ears to stop the pain. She then charged right up to her and began a flurry of unrelenting blows, each one coming faster than the last. She would avoid causing any sort of serious injuries to her, but it was better to push her too far here and have her get hurt than to have it happen out in the field.

Serena managed to roll away from her sonic cry, but couldn't dodge her blows. All Serena could do was block the attacks. She couldn't do anything besides block, Canary's attacks were too fast, if she lowered her guard then she'd end up getting a big blow to the face. Growling, she quickly used her telekinesis to push Canary away from her. She really did want to use her powers much, but she had no choice. It was either keep taking punches or push her away to by more time. Her arms had a dull ache from blocking Canary's attacks. She debated on if she should just throw in the towel. Wait, can she even throw in the towel? Was that even an option!?

Dick's eyebrow raised up in amusement. "What was that?" He mused.

Canary once again closed the distance Serena had created between them before the girl had a chance to do anything. She grabbed Serena by the arm and pulled her forward while her other hand pressed against her shoulder and used the momentum to push her to the side and throw her to the ground at Canary's side. "Not bad, Nightmare." She offered her hand to help her to her feet. Canary would lean in and whisper to her while she pulled her up. "I'm not sure why you're trying to hide your powers from your teammates, but if you need to talk to someone come find me."

Kaldur looked over to Jared. He could tell the boy was nervous about going into the ring with Canary. "Don't worry about trying to beat her, that's not going to happen. Just remember what the point of this exercise is. We want to see what you're capable of and where you need to improve." He glanced back over to Serena. "We'll go over how the two of you performed after you've both had your turns.

Kaldur's words helped his nervousness a bit, but he was still anxious. He was about to walk into the circle when he remembered his tail. "Oh, right..." He put his hand under his shirt and fidgeted around with something above his hip. After an audible click could be heard his tail swung out from under his clothing. It was about three feet long, thicker than his arm most of the way down, and except for the scaly underside of it, was covered in a heavy coat of thick black fur. He walked forward as nonchalantly as he could, acting as if hiding and then pulling out a large furry tail out from under one's clothing was a perfectly normal thing to do. "Ok, I'm ready."
