Animalia Magicka

Animalia magicka, more commonly known as a mage’s familiar, are animals with a predisposition towards magic. When picking a familiar, it is important to remember the three T’s of animal companionship: Temperament, toughness, and talent. At least two should match their Loyal’s, which is what we call the humans who have bonded with a familiar. It is said that no mage can accomplish true greatness without a devoted familiar at their side.
Sometimes a familiar is injured or lost, or otherwise find themselves in a dedicated rescue for help. It is here that we begin, with rumors of abolishing animal magic on the wind and a small revolt from mages without familiars challenging the notion of a bond with animals to increase their magical talent on the horizon. But that isn’t here, isn’t now, so need not worry about that dear familiars, just rest and recover while you are here. Nothing bad will happen to you while within the borders of the Familiar rescue…

The wyvern has two legs, two wings, and a spiny tail surmounted by a (typically) poisonous stinger. Its durable hide of armored scales gives the wyverns plenty of protection to fight off other predators and even larger dragons when fighting in a pack. They do not possess a breath weapon, but rather their stinger is the source of their elemental discharge. This, combined with their powerful body and ferocious maw of razor-sharp teeth make them formidable foes. They live in packs of up to 12 individuals, ranging over a territory many hundreds of miles in area.
In the fall, male wyvern wing patterns become vibrant to attract a mate and will fight other suitors, sometimes resulting in death. They usually hibernate through winter.

The drake is a common flightless dragon that has been greatly domesticated. They all have four legs and short compact bodies allowing for swift running. They are highly adaptable to their environments, with many subspecies specially designed for almost any function. They have powerful jaws and sharp teeth to effectively capture and kill their prey. They typically have wedge-shaped heads allowing for binocular vision when hunting. They are pack-hunting animals. They have been bred throughout the world, resulting in hundreds of varieties such as small toy drakes to massive siege drakes. They are commonly used as guard animals, and many have had armor and harnesses custom-made for their specific occupation.

Often mistaken for insects, Fae dragons have evolved forearms that make a second set of wings, and the legs and feet have developed long digits for grappling prey and holding onto small limbs. They fly like insects or hummingbirds, capable of hovering in midair, and move in any direction while holding any position. Fae come in many colors and shapes. Some breeds migrate while others hibernate through winter. Like magpies, they like to steal small shiny objects to line their nests. Fae also have a prehensile tail to give it better balance. They are often kept as nurturers for gardens and farms, as many possess the ability to manipulate plants.

Grand dragons are the most feared and famous dragons in the history of the world. They can be found nearly everywhere and can breathe fire or manipulate other elements with their breath weapons. Though they were once abundant, now they are quite rare. The bright colors of these species are more prominent in males than females. Grand dragons have quadrupedal bodies, long tails, serpentine necks, scaled armor, and massive bat-like wings. Most are highly intelligent.
Grand dragons are highly territorial and anti-social, even to other dragons.

Loong are long, serpentine, four-legged dragons with prehensile tails. Loong are unique in that they are in the order of flightless dragons like drakes but are capable of limited flight. They don't possess dedicated appendages for flight like other dragons, instead, Loong use a unique construction of frills along its body to glide or "swim" through the air. They also have whiskers much like a catfish's, used to sense close-range movement. Its long serpentine body is able to constrict around enemies like a snake, and its four legs have sharp talons for fighting, in addition to a jaw of sharp teeth. Some can even spit caustic expectorant to frighten enemies. They tend to be reclusive and shy, living solitary lives.
Loong come in a variety of colors, sizes, and shapes. They tend to migrate for winter when their habitats begin to get cold.

Bears are heavily build, short-tailed mammals with large skulls and strong jaws. They have large, strong paws with long claws. The biggest bears can kill another animal with just a single blow from their paws. Some bears are excellent climbers. Although bears are part of the group called carnivores, most of them are omnivores and will eat almost anything. Bears have an excellent sense of smell, which they rely on to find food, but their eyesight and hearing are not as good as other carnivores, such as dogs and cats.

Their tails vary in length depending on species; the stink badger has a very short tail, while the ferret-badger's tail can be 46–51 cm (18–20 in) long, depending on age. They have black faces with distinctive white markings, grey bodies with a light-coloured stripe from head to tail, and dark legs with light-coloured underbellies. They grow to around 90 cm (35 in) in length, including tail. The European badger is one of the largest; the American badger, the hog badger, and the honey badger are generally a little smaller and lighter. Stink badgers are smaller still, and ferret-badgers are the smallest of all. They weigh around 9–11 kg (20–24 lb), while some Eurasian badgers weigh around 18 kg (40 lb).

Living ungulates are divided into two orders: the odd-toed ungulates (Perissodactyla) including horses, rhinoceroses, and tapirs; and even-toed ungulates (Artiodactyla) such as cattle, pigs, giraffes, camels, sheep, deer, and hippopotamuses. Most terrestrial ungulates use the hoofed tips of their toes to support their body weight while standing or moving. Ungulates are typically herbivorous and many employ specialized gut bacteria to allow them to digest cellulose, though some members may deviate from this: several species of pigs are omnivorous.

They are characterized by a single pair of continuously growing incisors in each of the upper and lower jaws. Most rodents are small animals with robust bodies, short limbs, and long tails. They use their sharp incisors to gnaw food, excavate burrows, and defend themselves. Most eat seeds or other plant material, but some have more varied diets. They tend to be social animals and many species live in societies with complex ways of communicating with each other.

Crocodilia is an order of mostly large, predatory, semiaquatic reptiles. Large, solidly built, lizard-like reptiles, crocodilians have long flattened snouts, laterally compressed tails, and eyes, ears, and nostrils at the top of the head. They swim well and can move on land in a "high walk" and a "low walk", while smaller species are even capable of galloping. Their skin is thick and covered in non-overlapping scales. They have conical, peg-like teeth and a powerful bite. They have a four-chambered heart and, somewhat like birds, a unidirectional looping system of airflow within the lungs, but like other living reptiles they are ectotherms.

Classes:

Fighter

HP: 4
Speed: 4
Strength: 5
Defense: 5
Magic Pool: 0
Magic Resist: 0
A well-rounded combat-oriented class, Fighters don’t particularly accel at anything, and even less so at magic, but they definitely can hold their own.
Preferred combat styles are Hack/Slash.
Ninja

HP: 2
Speed: 7
Strength: 7
Defense: 2
Magic Pool: 0
Magic Resist: 0
A combat class with a focus on speed and strength, Ninjas are glass cannons, they can hit hard and fast, but lack good defense and can be taken down easily in just a few hits.
Preferred combat styles are stealth and speed-based.
Mage

HP: 0
Speed: 4
Strength: 0
Defense: 2
Magic Pool: 6
Magic Resist: 6
Mages are squishy in terms of defense and physical capability, but when it comes to magic they pack a punch. They are well-rounded in all magic types and can fire spells at range or up close in melee.
Preferred combat styles are magic-based, be it a ranged caster, melee spells, or healing/support.
Berserker

HP: 6
Speed: 0
Strength: 6
Defense: 6
Magic Pool: 0
Magic Resist: 0
High in defense but slow on foot, Berserkers are your tanks and living meatshields. They’re great offensively and defensively at the cost of magic ability and speed.
Lancer

HP: 5
Speed: 0
Strength: 0
Defense: 1
Magic Pool: 6
Magic Resist: 6
Much like berserkers, except instead of physical skill, it’s magic. They have a lot of health, Magic ability, and resistance, at the cost of being slow and physically weak. What they lack in physicality they make up for with magic.
Performer

HP: 1
Speed: 6
Strength: 2
Defense: 1
Magic Pool: 5
Magic Resist: 3
Performers are basically like DND Bards, low in most skills except speed, and magic-related stats. They can dance, they can sing, and they can play an instrument, all to deal damage or to buff their allies with the magic of performance
Their preferred combat style is music-oriented magics, and movement-based magic and melee.
Jack

HP: 3
Speed: 3
Strength: 3
Defense: 3
Magic Pool: 3
Magic Resist: 3
Jack of all trades, yet Master of none, Jacks have completely rounded stats, making them a good class for those who wish to dabble in multiple fighting styles. The freeform nature of Jacks makes them unpredictable. But their lack of specialization also means they are one of the weakest classes to start with.
There is no preferred combat style for Jacks.

Hello! I'm Dovah and this is my latest idea for a roleplay!
First, if you're interested, leave a post below!
Second, a discord server for OOC plotting will be required.
Thirdly, I have a major surgery coming up Friday morning (sept 15th, 2023) so we will not be starting any IC until after that. I will be available up until then and starting Saturday I will be available to answer questions and accept forms.
Thirdly, if you join, please do not ghost. Let us know you must leave. I don't need to know why, but it would help me plan and keep track of the rp if I know who's still interested.
Fourthly, this is a semi-literate, semi-casual rp. I do not need a thousand paragraphs, but the minimum is a small well-written paragraph. I understand we all have off days, I myself have them too. We're only human.
Once you have expressed interest by posting below, I will send a dm with the discord server link. :)

A question, as a roleplayer are we playing only as familiars or are we playing as a Loyal and a Familiar?

We are role playing as familiars only. There will be humans/loyals in this story but those will be npcs.

Bump! If anyone wants a discord invite for ooc chatting and answering questions let me know!

Greetings! I am very interested in this. I do have a question though! Would our familiar characters also have human forms and the ability to shift back and forth? Or would we strictly play as animal characters?

Either way, I would love to be a part of this! :ghostv:

Familiars do not typically have human forms. Though theoretically it's possible if they had the Arcane element and knew a shape shifting spell. But that is incredibly rare.
Gonna send you a discord invite!

Cool, thanks for the clarification!

This has the makings of an interesting concept for a game.

Would certainly make for an interesting dnd campaign.
