- Information.Against the better judgement of scientists and philosophers, there are, in fact, manners of travel between time. In fact, there are machines big and small that are built through time, space, and theoretically any other dimension if an engineer is creative and stupid enough to think of it. And while there are stipulations regarding the messy act of hopping from decade to decade, there will always be one thing: danger. Creatures of unknown origin, villains that seek power and glory, phenomena that if unstopped, could end hundreds of millions of lives in the blink of an eye. Yet, there are people who witness these events and live, and continue living and moving from the far future to the prehistoric past. They experience the additional constant of the universe, apart from danger: Adventure.Adventures in Time and Space is the title of this RP, and one that I've been itching to play for a while. Up-front, I'll mention the details: I hope for this to be long-term with a twist that I'll explain later. Regarding actual writing, I appreciate quality but I'm not going to mandate any post sizes for interested parties, since I find that creatively draining at times, and doesn't really work with the type of dialogue that media like Doctor Who is known for. As long as it's not bare bones, quantity shouldn't be an issue.Doctor Which?A large issue I've noticed in other DW based or purely inspired RPs is that there's always a question of balance between The Doctor (or Doctor figure) and the rest of the cast. For AITAS, there will be no Doctor. There could be Time Lords or creatures like them, but there will be no central protagonist that takes away from anyone else in the cast. But, you may ask, where will this story take place in the Doctor Who canon? Simple: it won't. AITAS will be building it's own mythos using an episodic adventure format. With this format, I may include real villains and adventures from the series (ranging from Classic to Revival), but their relationship to the story and characters will most likely be completely different. On top of that, I'm always interested in hearing from us players! If a story element or villain becomes popular among players, they can expect a return or reference to them in the future. Along with this, characters will be able to make backstories without the constraints of the Doctor Who universe. Until a location is mentioned in an episode or a planet is officially named, it doesn't exist just yet. Even Time Lords, if anyone chooses to be one initially, have no culture until the players or myself build on them. They might not even be called Time Lords anymore; it's a blank canvas, or at least most of it is.tab01.

- Story MechanicsI had a hard time initially deciding where to post this interest check, but I decided on this thread because I want this to be a much more cinematic and story-based series of adventures. However, we will be using some mechanics from the Doctor Who tabletop RPG, of which I've stolen the name from. You can find the rulebook here (don't read any of the other materials just in case). If this gains enough interest, I'll discuss with the players when and what from these we will be using, but no worries about tedious roles!Another major problem I often see in Doctor Who RPs is that, if an RP goes on long enough, there simply isn't any more story to tell. Here's where my "gimmick" idea comes in: the players may not stay the same. I'm hoping for this to be long term, and one thing I want to include is the freedom of narrative play. For instance, if we have a great season of episodic adventures and a player feels their character has finished an important arc or simply no longer wishes to play them, the player can speak with the GM (me), and we can make a nice narrative end to the character, death or otherwise. It won't even have to be season by season; since we're re-booting the mythos for our own needs, I will be drawing from Classic a lot as well, and in that era, character came and went in the middle of seasons, let alone big arcs. And one more big idea: if there are more players who become interested later on or are above our main cast limit, I will be allowing guest characters! If you've seen an episode of DW, you know that sometimes there are characters that feel really well-written, who are either one-off writings or eventually join the main cast. If a player is interested, they can become a character in the next episode or arc, try the game out for themselves, and if they feel like it's for them, work with the GM for that character or another original to be integrated into the story. In some distant hopeful future where this continues on for a bit, this could even apply to me! If another player or outsider wants to try and GM an episode or two, I could take a step back and play a character of my own. This just opens a large door for great teamwork and player exploration beyond a set cast that gets stale after a while!BoardsCurrent BoardThis will be where I post new openings or similar things for interested players if we get this thing off the ground. Otherwise, welcome! Take a look through this interest check and see this idea jives with you.keywordstime space clock new adventure dangertab01.
