Fandom A Song of Rivers and Frost

Graxag shook his head and gestures to her men. He seemed more interested in the coming siege than anything else. Though he did turn to Minerva and asked , “ Pain?” And gestured to her shoulder. When it comes to walkers they don’t get injured. The only things that can kill them were mostly used up in the war. Though if anyone was going to have valerian steel it would be the Lannisters. Not to mention if word of his escape reached the dragon mothers ears they may be facing down the unsullied and her child. There were too many variables and Graxag didn’t like it. Best case scenario would be that the Lannisters come alone to attempt to capture him and use him against the Targaryens.

She nods, grimacing a bit. “Yes.” She says simply. While the bolt didn’t break any bones that won’t heal easily, or hit major organs, it still went straight through to the other side. Any use of that arm is painful. She looks back to her men, looking worried for them. She really does care for her house, and she knows that many of them will die soon. She’s using her trade network to gather what resources she can, but she knows the Lannisters will have more. It will come down to Graxag, inevitably.

She looks over at him, tilting her head slightly. “Are you afraid?” She asks softly. Does he even fear? She still needs to gain information on his kind. Hopefully learn some of the language to make this easier.

Graxag shook his head, “ No Fear. Only Wait.” The walker said before grabbing her injured shoulder with his hand. He would hold just long enough that the cold would numb her should without doing any lasting damage. “ Help” Graxag said with a nod to her. He then looked to the clouds and back to the soliders. “ Many die, still serve.” Graxag looked back to Minerva one more time before turning his attention to the soliders. He wanted to figure out thier fighting styles. The foreign ways of fighting were how so many walkers had been killed in the first place.

She sighs with relief, feeling that horrible burning turn to cold numbness. “Thank you.” She says softly. She glances around, making sure the civilians are doing their job of clearing anything flammable. If the Lannisters are smart, they’ll start trying to set everything on fire. They probably don’t know if Graxag is the only one she harbors.

She closes her eyes, taking a deep breath. She can not afford to let emotions overwhelm her. As the leader of her house, she must stay calm, and logical. She has to think of a plan. She’s starting to come up with one, but it’s going to be tricky. She needs to try something now. She calls someone over, the poor man shivering as he comes over. “Yes my lady?”

“I need you to fill buckets of water from the river. A lot of them. Actually, let’s use barrels as many as you can. Bring them to the gates, and the walls.” The man looks very confused at her request, but doesn’t question it, running off to do as told.

Graxag was a little confused, but then thought that she meant to make use of his power over ice. After watching the soliders for a while Graxag turned to Minerva and asked, “Fight?”. He made a gesture between himself and the soliders trying to indicate he wanted to practice his martial skills that had gone unused for so long.

She raises an eyebrow, but nods, getting up. “Alright, looks like you’ve got the basics down.” She calls. The soldiers look up at her, some wondering if she’s saying they’re done now. “Graxag wants to spar with some of you. Obviously none of you have weapons that can properly harm him, so I don’t see the need for you to have practice weapons.”

She looks to the walker. “That said… please don’t hurt. Badly.” She says, gesturing to her men.

Graxag nodded and descended down the steps. The walker kept his hands behind his back and the soliders made way for him. One he was in the center of the soliders, who had formed a ring around him he took a martial stance and focused himself. “ Ready” he called out with a nod in his native language. It a moment for soliders to gather the never but one managed to step up. Whether the solider was brave or foolhardy Graxag didn’t know, but he waited on thier attack. Graxag uses a martial art that is based off tai chi that focuses to a flowing form that focuses on blending defense with Attack. Its focus is in on redirecting attacks and then countering.

Minerva’s men, due to the eclectic nature of her house, have many different fighting styles. Of course, even those that generally fight unarmed learn quickly not to touch Graxag. The spearmen Do well enough, as long as he doesn’t get too close, while the archers back off to pepper him with arrows. The swordsmen have a bit of a sting and fly tactic going on, never engaging more than is neccesary before backing off.

Graxag had a hard time adapting to the differing fighting styles, not to mention the group combat. While he managed to deflect or dodge most attacks every so often one of the soliders would get a hit on him. Not that it did anything to him, but it did help him learn from his mistakes but by bit. Graxag also had to be careful with his strength. He didn’t want to injure the men who would be fighting with with soon. So when he did land an attack it was with the lightest touch he could muster, practically stopping short of contact. As the numbers thinned out Graxag got better at handling the attacks until he managed to hit all of them at least once. Graxag nodded to the soliders and gave them a salute in respect. They managed to knock a lot of the rust off his skills. Now he just needed live combat where he could freely kill an opponent to get the rest of it off.

The soldiers actually seem a lot more comfortable now, and salute him in return, though their salute is a hand over the heart, rather than what he might be used to. Which also means Minerva salutes him on occasion as well, since she’s done that motion a few times. None of them attempt to shake hands with him, but the one in charge of this training group smiles. “Thank you. It is good to have a more challenging opponent.”

Minerva grins, proud of her soldiers for fighting as well as they did. She knows how terrified some of these people are, having fled from the walkers in the north.

Graxag nodded in turn to the leader, “ Thank, Help”. The walker said in turn before heading back up the stairs back to Minerva’s side. “ Think?” Graxag asked wondering her thoughts not only on his performance but also on the abilities of her soliders. “Survive?” He had a fairly good idea on how strong her men were now, and even if thier weapons could hurt him Graxag knew he could kill most of not all of them if he was actually trying to kill them. He just hoped that the Lannister army was weakened after the war.

Minerva hums, thinking about that. “Not just like that.” She says, still trying to think of the words. “Need to be smart. Trick enemy. Enemy is strong. Are many.” She turns her head, smiling at him. “But Yes. I think we can win.” Minerva is unbelievably glad that he’s on her side. She knows he could have killed them all with ease, and she knows that for every Lannister man killed, they gain another soldier. They’re going to survive.

Graxag nods, “ Then I Rest.” He was glad that she was so confident about the assault. He would make his way back to the Pantry to rest and gather his strength to be ready at a moments notice. Same as last time once he was inside the pantry the clouds would part and the home of his savior would return to normal.

Minerva smiles, looking up at the sky as the clouds disperse. She’s going to lead her house to great things now. They won’t have to be trodden over by the greater houses any longer. She goes to oversee the work in preparing for the siege, knowing that this will be a hard time for her house. The scouts have already reported seeing Lannister troops starting to gather.

Graxag would continue to hibernate until called on by Minerva or someone else of the house. One could see this as a testament to how much he trusted the people of the house. At the same time however even if all of them were to die as he slept he could still fight his way out when he needed to. Now it was just a matter of the house relying on him.

The Lannister troops make their attack early in the morning. Probably to make as much use of the daylight as possible, as well as trying to have her soldiers unprepared. The alarm horns go off immediately upon seeing the soldiers in the distance, and her archers run up to the wall, her other soldiers at the gates waiting to be released.

One soldier runs to pound on the pantry door, making sure that Graxag will be awake and ready by the time the approaching army gets here. They’re all so afraid, but ready to fight.

Graxag hears the pounding and then the commotion. The Lannister troops had arrived then. Graxag got out of the Pantry bringing his wights with him as well abrupt snowfall. Though the cold would affect both sides he didn’t mind too much. So long as those of Minerva’s house out lasted those in house Lannister it didn’t matter. The longer it took the Lannister to get to the hold the stronger the snow storm became. Graxag watched thier approach from atop a battlements and had his wights released on the approaching force. This was mostly to test to see if any had valerian steel or dragon glass. The wights would stay in a ground and sneak towards the back of the formation under the cover of snow. His wights were to take out as many archers as they could.

Minerva did have the foresight to make sure her soldiers had warm clothes between their skin and the metal armor. Bulky, but necessary. The barrels of water are poured on the ground outside of the wall, quickly freezing in the new cold weather.

Minerva has enough sense to stay inside her hold, with a small group of guards to protect her. She doesn’t have any combat ability at all, she wouldn’t be of use.

Some of the higher ranked Lannister soldiers have dragon glass and Valerian steel, but all have torches to try and ward of the wights. As soon as they reach firing range, Calistrian archers are punching holes through their armor.

The ones of them that make it to the gates start slipping and sliding. They were equipped for snow, not the smooth ice that they’re now having to deal with.

Graxag immediately raises those that die on approach from the archers and have them attack the approaching force. The winds grow harsher as the cold increases, blowing out some of the torches that had been used among the ranks. Then Graxag himself jumped down from the battlements and slowly approached the troops.

Minerva’s men start laughing, watching the soldiers being absolutely pummeled before they actually reach the walls. This is going much better than they could have anticipated. The Lannisters are scared now. They’re trying to relight their torches using everyone else’s. The ones with lit torches or specialized weapons try to cut him off from the others, trying to keep the others alive till they reach the wall.

Graxag walked up on the formation of the Lannister troops and with one power strike to a nearby tree causes the tree to fall towards the advancing troop. He would do this one one more time to ensure that the troops were in a disarray and panic. Not to mention that once he moved the trees it was even more wights for him to command. Graxag moved the trees aside and started launching broken off tree branches into the regime with enough force to puncture armor, or at least shatter the wood and knock a solider on thier butt.

This is the point where the majority of the soldiers realize they’re outmatched. They turn to flee, trying to get back to Tell their superiors what happened. They can’t win this, after how many wights are being created from the fallen. The fort is too well defended for a direct assault.

With the line crushed, literally and his wights charging after them Graxag ran into the fray himself intent on capturing the commander of the force or at least a high ranking officer Graxag made quick work of the foot soliders he ran across in his sprint across across the battlefield and carved his way through the army searching for someone to grab as a bargaining chip.

It isn’t hard to spot him, considering that he is the only man on a horse, and his armor is more decorated. His golden hair is almost a dead giveaway that he’s part of the actual family, not just the house. He could be valuable.

When Graxag did find the Lannister he made quick work of him by killing his horse with a well placed punch and then throwing him into the crowd of wights that had begun to congregate behind the walker. The wights held the Lannister down until Graxag ordered him to be transported back to the hold. With the army routed and retreating Graxag and his wights walked back to the hold as the snow storm lifted back to just being cloudy. “look who I found Minerva.” Graxag called out in his native tongue as 4 wights carried the commander inside.
