Girard had been on a bench in front of the large observation window in an empty room of the ship for quite a few hours now, gazing out into the void. One hand idly played with the grip on his rifle as he waited patiently for the moment he would be called to action. Well, perhaps patiently wasn't the most correct word to use, as he was tense and worried about the coming mission. Firstly, humans hadn't made much contact with the enemy and Commander Girard Ferris himself hadn't made any... it was mostly the other race that had seen the horrors they can inflict. Girard had heard that the aliens aboard had reddish skin and that they were certainly prettier than most aliens one would see in the movies. but just like the enemy, he'd never seen one of the ally race either. He had boarded the human side of the ship from earth, and while there were a few of the aliens on board, he was advised not to make contact with them yet, not until their royal family was rescued and they had more of a reason to trust him and his kind.
That's what this impending mission was: a ploy to rescue the ruling family of their planet from their currently besieged capital. Girard leaned forward in his seat a little as he took in the planet from the ship's position in space, mesmerized at the aesthetics of it. It looked nothing like earth, though apparently, the air was still breathable to humans, which was a relief. Fighting in a breather helmet was never fun.
Lost in his thoughts, Girard was suddenly brought out of said stupor by the sound of the door to the observation deck sliding open. He turned his head to see one of his lieutenants saluting him. "Commander Ferris, we were ordered to prepare for deployment." Girard nodded and stood, hoisting his laser rifle which he'd been holding over his shoulder before looking the lieutenant in the eyes intensely. "Then move, Lieutenant. I'll be right behind you. The men are on their way too, I assume?" "Yes sir." "Great." The commander clapped his second in command on the shoulder before the two men began briskly walking down to the human airlock. Everything on this ship was divided to keep both races from getting in each other's comfort zones too much, everything from personal quarters to airlocks, to small spacecraft hangars were duplicated for each of the two races, all except the commons of the ship, a large room with many tables that both races were allowed to congregate in. At the moment, however, the commons was relatively empty as tensions were high, especially for the non-humans aboard as they were worried about their leaders. The only other room both races shared was the meeting hall, built so that officials of both races could collaborate. It was expected that the royal family would participate in these collaborations once they were rescued.
It wasn't long before a voice sounded out on the intercom. "Spec Ops Unit B, prepare for ground deployment." Girard and his men were already poised at the ship's airlock, and once the ship had passed through the planet's atmosphere and they were close to the ground, it opened. The men jumped out in an oft-practiced motion, activating their jetpacks to safely hover down to the ground, weapons raised. There were enemies everywhere. Girard and his men had been dropped off near the home of the royal family, so they shot their way through to it and began looking around for any important-looking friendlies, taking out enemies left and right along the way.
