We are obligated to (and should) treat everyone politely and respectfully and the presence of moderators on this site are a wonderful asset towards keeping civility. At least when it comes to general discourse. That said, RPing is not a paid position. We're not employees or business owners...

Unpopular roleplay opinions... Alright. I think people who post interest checks are volunteering to run the world and setting for those playing in it. When they inevitably turn out to just want to play their own character in a scenario with no idea how the story or plot is supposed to go, I'm...

Oh, I suspect the mythology informing gnomes, hobbits and dwarves probably does vary. As memory serves, all three do prefer underground but dwarves like mountains, gnomes like caves/hills and halfings like burrowing. Dwarves like beards, halfings don't and gnomes are somewhere in the middle...

I'm somewhere between completely disagreeing and completely agreeing with an amendment. Classic D&D has humans, great. Elves, long lived race who loves woods and are tall and live long, fine. We've got goblins and orcs and they're similar but enough cultural and physical differences, eh okay...

Shamus' Young's Philosophy of Moderation is a great read. While aimed at an approach to forum moderation, the principles nicely apply to roleplays (and most internet-based interactions). Read it and give yourself permission to spend 0 time on rewrites, filtering and gatekeeping and instead...

Another unpopular roleplay opinion that I've expressed before but feel compelled to express again: Personality writeups on character sheets should be deleted (or never written in the first place). 1. Personality sections of character sheets are the ultimate RPing crime of 'Telling rather than...

Every pet peeve I have, unpopular or otherwise, can be inferred from the following flowchart. What it says about me as a person, that I have a flowchart, I won't presume to know.

    Viewpoint Character death

There are probably some newer game engines that cater to the tastes of those who like high risk, high turnover game playing. For better or worse, the trend in the past twenty years away from that and more towards baked-in survivability tells me that the majority of people who game today don't...

    Viewpoint Character death

Boy, so much to reply to. So here are my thoughts in no particular order. 1. Some players hate character death because they don't want the story to end. This happens all the time in works of fiction (Sherlock Holmes and Conan the Barbarian both had dozens and dozens of books and eventual...

Experiences Spelling, grammar and punctuation pet peeves!

I'd forgotten until you mentioned it just now. An in person pet peeve related to this topic is listening to an English speaker say something's 'uber'. English already has a word for 'over', 'above' or 'super'. Those words are 'over', 'above' and 'super'. Using a foreign word to say something...

Experiences Spelling, grammar and punctuation pet peeves!

I'm a sucker for good punctuation. I used to have more pet peeves but life on the internet has worn most of them off. At this point, most of the people on RP forums are people who've grown up reading books. I don't think it's unreasonable for people who read books to write the same way. As...

Experiences Some of the players that made this site great

@Rusty of Shackleford We've been in half a dozen games together at one time or another, and I've enjoyed your characters. Looking forward to gaming more with you in the future, should we find a mutual interest check in common. ;) @SilverFlight My pleasure, I assure you. Your Order of Seven...

Palladium RPG - Reworking the Xp System

So, 1st to 2nd takes about 2-4 pages of posts. 5th to 6th takes about 8-16 pages of posts. 10th to 11th takes about 36-80 pages of posts. Hmmmm. I'll have to think about that. Although if combat awards are done too (or the usual 50-100 for an act of kindness, or a great observation...

Palladium RPG - Reworking the Xp System

Can you give me an example of what typical combat awards are vs. what your rates are for pages-posted? Let's use Wlfsamurai's Expedition Under Fire as a baseline, since we're both in it but neither of us is running it. How would you have 'xpeified' this thread, using your metrics?

Given that this thread is specific to Palladium RPGs (i.e. Rifts, Robotech, TMNT, etc.), I imagine the majority of folks who browse this forum won't have much to say. That said, a few of you come to mind! Namely @Sherwood @Psychie @Vaneheart @WlfSamurai @Orikanyo @Silanon and maybe @Esbilon...

    Viewpoint The Roleplay Killer

Discovering that everyone including the game host likes the idea of the setting of the game, but no one has any ideas on what kind of plot they want to see. These days, I'm just glad that some hosts put sandbox somewhere in the interest check so I know to skip it.
