Kinda yeah. Your character doesn't have to be necessarily good at singing, however. Chanting/shouting the spells tends to happen more (in universe as there are many kids who are good at various instruments but can't sing).

Two choices. Either the song doesn't "work" or the person has to hum or play a specific series of notes (that would be a bit weird to transcribe/remember).
