have continued to permeate seimayan society unscathed, but for reasons unbeknownst to modern humanity, cellular reception and radio signals completely cease to function within its borders, turning the lands upon which the kingdom is housed into a technological deadzone for the past three hundred years. as such, the seimayan people learned to become self-sufficient over time, disconnected from the outside world yet indomitable in their customs as they weave together modern trends and centuries-old traditions all manipulated and overseen by the prestigious jewel council.as the primary legislating arm of seimaya's monarchical leadership, the jewel council is comprised of seven prominent noble houses who tout the bulk of socioeconomic influence and land ownership in the kingdom, each priceless gift bestowed upon their ancestors for purging the land of evil, now called "the blessing" by the holy araksavist temple and the general public alike. despite its drawbacks on the technological front, "the blessing" allegedly operates as the invisible battery powering seimaya's repeated military successes and increasingly self-sufficient economy, fueled by passionate tears of prayer along with preservation of the holy sika deer habitats as advocated for by araksavist doctrine.in recent times amidst brutality from the royal family and poverty among the lower classes, our foundations. - an end to it all.welcome to mono no aware, a brand new roleplay by yours truly! this one has been in the works for quite a while, but it's finally seeing the light of day now that i'm medicated (lmfao) and i'm super excited to see the novel ways in which this formidable little society comes to life as we introduce the unique, beautifully written characters i know y'all will cook up. while i have prepared an overarching mystery, thriller plot revolving around the kingdom's rumored "curse," the current family heads, and the fallen 8th house that is ready to be explored, i highly encourage and welcome all sorts of gripping, convoluted plots that can aid in developing complex relationships between our contestants, whether those involve spice, violence, romance, betrayal, etc. etc., so let your imagination cook and the world will grow to accommodate it! that being said, there are a few guidelines i'd like to establish to help create a lasting experience for everyone:
- age restrictions. due to the mature themes in this roleplay, please only apply if you are an adult (18+).
- applications. this roleplay is not fcfs. an invitation to the discord server will be sent via dms to the players chosen after carefully considering everyone's applications. i'll also make sure to post a notice afterwards so there's no confusion. codes are not required.
- discord is required. ooc discussion, certain in-character interactions, and canon events will all take place within the discord server, such as being visited by "the witness," so participation on discord is necessary for this roleplay.
- player conduct. be respectful of each other and communicate issues like adults. i'll step in if i have to, but i want nothing more than for everyone to feel safe and enjoy themselves here, so please help me maintain that.
- character concept. along with a character sheet, i also ask for a brief character concept, essentially just a short writing sample so i can get an idea for your style as well as your character in action! this can be a snippet of their past, an internal monologue, a nightmare, a diary entryโ anything that helps me learn a little more about your character's defining characteristics, fears, aspirations, motivations, quirks, etc. while this will be included as part of the application, the character concept is moreso meant to help me with incorporating your characters into the plot more smoothly as the rp gets off the ground.
- character demographics. this is set in a modern, fictional country with very light fantasy elementsโ as such, there are zero limitations on sexuality, gender identity, race, etc. though it is meant to take place in eastern asia (located roughly around modern vladivostok, just before it was formally annexed to russia), this is not a jrp/krp! any and all faceclaims are allowed, so long as it makes sense for their family to have roots there spanning back generations. the only request i make is that all characters be fully adult humans with realistic faceclaims. detailed descriptions or commissioned artwork in lieu of a fc are also perfectly acceptable!
- technology. despite being set in the modern era, seimayan society is distinctly dated due to the lack of mobile signal and internet access. your characters are not expected to understand the latest pop culture references or to keep up to date on international news unless they have a reason and the means to do so. to get an idea for what technology looks like in seimaya, think of it this way: if it won't work in a secluded countryside cabin with no signal or internet, then it won't work in seimaya. everything else, however, continues to be developed (railways, medicine, architecture, etc.) or brought into the country through trade (textiles, weaponry, machinery, etc.).
i know this is a whole boatload of information and backstory for just an interest check, but please don't let that deter you as it just goes to show how deep the lore goes in this universe. feel free to ask for clarification in the temporary ooc thread if any parts are confusing or poorly explainedโ and if it's meant to be kept secret for now, i'll be sure to tell you that, too! detailed family histories won't be expected in the character sheet, so feel free to focus more on developing a gripping character who brings a unique perspective to the rp, whether that's an ambitious, pampered eldest child, an abused and forgotten seventh-in-line, or anything else that falls in between. one other thing i'd like to point out is that while the competition will certainly test your characters in novel ways, none of the trials will hinge on battle prowess, so please don't feel pressured to incorporate combat proficiency if such a skill wouldn't naturally align with your oc's upbringing.finally, huge thank you to dreamglow forforce lobotomizing me and accidentally activating my third eye in the processi mean helping me out a lot and boosting my confidence in this wacky little premise we've brewed that's finally coming together : ) dreamglow will assist me in reviewing applications and moderating the server, but the final cast will ultimately be decided at my discretion. please don't assume any ill intentions or malice if your character isn't chosenโ i don't doubt that all of you are incredible writers with tons to bring to the table!mono no aware.
