Example being if Ember used her aura to use water for anything would act like a poison on the body that would take a significant depletion of aura to counter, leaving the user in a very weakened state

Well no because everyone can already learn multiple elements (usually just sorcerers/elementalist) so using a certain elemental magic that’s opposite to your primary won’t really do anything.

The whole primary and secondary element thing is simply what elements your character wanted to learn. Not something that it like intricately tied to one’s being. So even if ember is a fire master because fire is what she closely connects to doesn’t mean she couldn’t learn water magic or air magic. It would just be weaker than fire because that’s what she is a master in, or should would have trouble understanding how to use it properly . Though I do get what you are saying, and certain types of magic do cause damage or require sacrifice (like chimera with time magic). I guess it could be more of a psychological thing? Something mental that blocks her from using other forms of magic and her body responds with physical pain

I do approve of her having some sort of block that doesn’t allow her to use other forms of magic and it makes her physically ill if you wanted to go that route!! Let me know what you are thinking
