In Character Interview Thread

What do you know about her plans?

She seems to get stronger from spreading fear and terror, so she sends her Fiends, Horrors and Shadows all over the world. My team is based in New York, but we've been to Paris, Mumbai, Tokyo, Rio... thank goodness for Rachel and her portaling powers.

So, Ms. Martinez... perhaps not the most usual of interview questions, but I would like inquire as to you and your allies' public opinion? I assume it must be fairly high, considering that you are defending the world from the previously described monsters.

I would also ask if your operations are secret to the public, but considering that you have agreed to this interview, I assume that is not the case?

We've had a few run-ins with people who yelled at us for collateral damage during our fights. A wrecked car here, a smashed building there- and do not get me started on The Great Minotaur vs Crockery Store Incident. Other than that, though, it's been pretty good. And we don't keep our work secret. We tried to, but once you have a brawl in the middle of Brooklyn during rush hour, people start taking notice.

Y’all are based out of NYC. Have you folks seen any musicals, and would you and the others be opposed to having your story dramatized into a musical?

Amy went to see Lion King once. Said it was okay. As for getting our story into a musical, I personally would not be opposed.

When did these monster attacks first come up? Also, if they were happening before you acquired your powers, who stopped them then?

do you have a good therapist? i mean, constantly having to battle for yourselves and for the world, having the weight oh humanity on your shoulders... its a lot to go through. do you have people who you can talk to?

(Thank you, you just pointed out a massive plot hole.)

I'm... not sure, honestly. There seems to be some evidence of things many years ago, but there's a lot that doesn't add up...

We talk to each other. We trust each other. That's enough. I've heard it said that the best therapist is someone who's gone through what you're going through, but nobody's done this before. We're all learning as we go.

Ooh, wow! Right on.

Pale, bare feet make their way into a study, where a slim laptop sits atop an oversized desk - solid, dark-stained wood, matching the rest of the room's gothic-yet-classy aesthetic. He slips behind the desk and draws the curtains of the tall window on the wall behind it closed, icy blue eyes turning to the laptop. He removes a white lab coat from his shoulders and drapes it across the back of the plush, executive chair at his desk, before promptly sitting in it. He sets a mug of steaming black coffee down against the wood and leans back, only to stare at the closed laptop thoughtfully with an absentminded scratch of his patchy, black stubble. It's only moments later that he opens it up and navigates to where he needs to go.

"I prefer to keep this brief," he types at a rapid pace. "My name is Ichabod Quinn. You may be familiar with the news coverage on my outcast from the scientific community, the death of my parents, or from the court case surrounding my subsequent inheritance. I have little interest in addressing the public, but I've been advised by an associate of mine that this interview may be beneficial in setting straight any questions, confusion, and allegations about myself, my studies, or those employed on my premises."

"Before you ask, no, the rumors of abuse among the workers of the Quinn manor are false."

"I will be answering questions for 7 days and no longer."

I haven’t exactly been following the news, Mr Quinn, my apologies. But what were you outcast for?
I found the scientific community far too close-minded for my taste. Far too much effort is spent on disproving miracles than actively looking for them. I believe it is the duty of a scientist to not only believe in the miraculous, but to pursue, study, and catalog it.

My attempts to prove the existence of an afterlife have been a source of controversy, to put it lightly. Swaths of scientific professionals - goliaths in the community - have criticized the core motivator of my pursuit. That being my own post-mortem experiences. Claiming them as hallucination or a last hurrah of neural activity. I simply cannot accept that answer. I will find the proof I need.

You say the employees at your residence have not been abused in any way shape or form. What benefits, what is the salary, and are these employees unionized? Additionally, what is your nationality, or at least what country do you reside in, what country is your mansion in?

The employees staffed at the Quinn Manor are not numerous, and are only present to handle necessities around the house, such as cooking, cleaning, landscape work, aviary care, ect, with the exception being my recent hiring of a personal assistant to replace my previous one. Thus far, none of them have expressed any interest in unionizing, but I wouldn't oppose them should they choose to.

As for benefits, they're given free room and board on the premises, and are on a fully paid healthcare plan. They have a generous salary and have never expressed interest in any sort of pay raise.

I am a US citizen residing in the state of Montana.

please tell me more about your field of study, your first brush with death, and how that has spurred on your quest to decipher if there is any kind of afterlife. Additionally, are you familiar with the Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and Frankenstein? that is, have you read the original books, rather than simply watching the sensationalized and oversimplified movie versions of said stories?

I've been recommended those titles to a nauseating degree. Various acquaintances throughout my life have insisted I "seem so much like them" and refuse to believe I haven't read them. I've had to ask them to stop recommending them as I'm not a reader of fiction. I have better things to do with my time.

I've heard my studies be labelled as "Eschatology" from time to time, but given the scarcity of that term, I'd rather just label them as "eclectic". I excelled academically in my youth and went into college at a relatively young age, so I've had time enough to pursue whatever I desired, mostly centering around biology, human physiology, and of course the process of death in the heart, brain, and remaining body.

My experience with death was deeply personal, but I'll attempt to put it to words for the sake of having it on record somewhere.

I drowned at age 8 and was then resuscitated by my family. In that period of time I underwent a vivid out-of-body experience where I witnessed my own corpse on the floor of my parents' yacht. I remember seeing my own gray skin and blue lips, and seeing that there were ravens flocked to it that no one present seemed to notice, besides myself.

I was soon approached by a figure I still have difficulty finding words for. The easiest way to describe it would be Death. There is no doubt in my mind that it was Death, itself - a grim reaper of magnitude incomprehensible. I noted its flowing black robes, its impossible height for the room I was in, its skeletal body, and this sash of hundreds - perhaps thousands - of human jawbones strung across its chest. It clattered together like a strange wooden wind chime with every movement.

The being reached a hand to me, and I hesitated to take it, only to be revived in short order. I suppose I was pulled back to my body. The next thing I recall was the hospital bed.

I'd be inclined to believe it was a hallucination if it weren't for the odd details, the vividness, and the pinpoint-precision memory I was born with. I'd love to believe it was something my mind concocted, but a being like that simply doesn't exist within the bounds of the human imagination. I know there is something more beyond this life, it's only a matter of proving it.
