Maybe the ones that look human enough could have lives outside the manor, and either pass off their non-human characteristics as a genetic thing, or try to cover them up?

As of now, it's a refuge where various creatures live together without fear of humans finding out and possibly hunting them down. I'm thinking that there would be a human that owns the land and protects them from the government and such using wealth and connections. Most humans ate unaware of their existence. Beyond that, the situation depends mostly on player interactions.

Also, where will it be? I'd like to think up a character that would fit the environment. I'm assuming a pine forest but idk why I'm thinking about that.

The time period is modern and the location would be in a remote forested area with mountains fairly nearby. It might even be a private island, though I'm not sure on that yet.
