Character Theory Who Are Some of Your Favourite Characters? Do You Roleplay As Them?

They still count as a fandom, since they actually have fans.
I'm well aware of that, but it doesn't mean all fandoms can/should be RPed. Besides, since there are no characters from the sort of games I play, at best you'd get OCs which typically end up being self-inserts, at worst you'll get OP characters using mechanics from a vague strategy game in an attempt to verify their character.

I'm not saying they're RPable Fandoms, I'm saying it's still a fandom

I still don't see the point of bringing that bit up, when you could have kept it simple. Just saying.
I did keep it simple, by saying which characters I play, why I play them over any other character and why my characters tend to be from older franchises - I play old characters because I don't play new games, as I play strategy games primarily. At least, I think that's pretty simple. You're the one who decided to pull apart my reasoning, which to be honest can't say I'm overly fond of you doing. My reasoning is my own and frankly you seem to be trying to make my personal opinion invalid by talking about semantics.

I don't know where you get the idea of me trying to invalidate your opinion. Because I thought you meant Chess or Checkers when you said Strategy Games.

Yeah but they aren't fandoms you can RP properly - not even in a multifandom. Most of the time there isn't even any characters from them to play as.

You can't roleplay Warhammer properly? Is that what you're suggesting? I started forum roleplaying with 40k roleplays, and would gladly jump in a quality one today. Both 40k and Warhammer fantasy are ready made settings for group RPs.

Both settings have tabletop RPGs. They've had them since the eighties. Roleplaying Warhammer in any incarnation shouldn't be a problem. 'Cept maybe Blood Bowl, that might take some effort.

I'd say that things like XCOM and Warhammer (or indeed factions in general) can certainly be RPed, you just need to go about it carefully or you end up just making a mess.
I don't want to call anyone out but I've seen Warhammer 40K factions in particular handled so badly in some RPs that I was almost put off that entire universe, and I know people who were put of said universe completely. That's just sad.

In terms of who I actually RP, I do tend to stick to OCs as it's a case of "Well, I can't screw up writing a character I've made myself" However, the self-insert thing has only really been played for laughs.
I've played John Constantine and the 10th Doctor in a good number of RPs as well as Grand Admiral Thrawn and Deadpool on occasion but the character I've played the most on this site is probably Injustice Harley Quinn.

In my opinion, she's the best version of the character (especially if you read the comics, which I highly recommend). There's the funny side, yes and playing a character that's a bit nuts is always fun but there's a deeper level to her which is interesting to explore. I think anyone that wants to write for a good version of Quinn should at least acknowledge the horrific nature of the abusive relationship...So basically, don't do what Suicide Squad did and you'll probably be fine.

She's trying to do good, she has a kid she's fighting for and trying to protect (to the point of her convincing Lucy she's her aunt) but all the while she's not okay mentally. She's basically fighting PTSD from being a monster's plaything while at the same time trying to save the world. It is so damn easy to just portray her as ditsy eye candy (again, thanks Suicide Squad) but then you're just seeing her the same way the Joker does: as a tool to be used.

I blame New 52 for the current portrayals of Harley. It's easier to sell she-deadpool meme queen to people who have never read a comic than a character with depth, somehow.

Hooray I'm not the only one who despises most of the New 52 stuff!

New 52 Aquaman is one of the best (if not the best) runs of the character.
I didn't like how salty he was about people saying he talks to fish. Surely, the king of the sea should have thicker skin. It was like one of those old Cartoon Network promos, except in the context of the real comics, played more straight.
My friend tells me it gets better after that. I should probably give it a full look.

Did you read the entire issue? He was marginalized and ridiculed most of the first book. Geoff Johns single handily injected credibility into the most disrespected superhero in mainstream comics. I don't think anyone else could have done it so quickly and effectively.

I get why people would like it. It just isn't my speed.
Wasn't a fan of Geoff's Shazam, either.

I'm glad Rebirth managed to fix some of those issues. My boy Wally West came back, actual Superman returned and he has a son, the Titans got back together (ect). New 52 at least gave us Justice League Dark from what I believe, as my (other) boy John ruddy Constantine made his way into the mainstream DC Universe.
DC learned they messed up, so they're fixing things. That's more that I can say for Marvel comics right now.

Maybe so, but Suicide Squad's portrayal of her and Jared (I refuse to call him The Joker) Letto with makeup's relationship was beyond disgusting. I haven't seen a more twisted romanticising of an abusive relationship since, well...Twilight.
Jared Letto in makeup is the new Edward Cullen.
EDIT- And they're giving the c-word a solo move! What kind of timeline are we living in where Jared Letto in makeup gets a movie but there's no Dredd 2!? Oh God, we're the dark parallel universe!

At least the Deadpool Harley books acknowledge the abuse, and even have an issue where she confronts Joker...And beats the crap out of him.

Different strokes I guess. John's runs with characters like Aquaman, Hawkman, and Green Lantern (especially GL) are top shelf DC Comics stories imo.
