Will you become one of them or survive till the end?

Ariel leaned on the railing of the rooftop and looked out into the town below, a shivery breath escaping him as he curled tighter around himself. It was early March, and winter has yet to release its icy grip on the Earth. Yet, he could already see plants peeking out from the soil and the birds returning to their joyous chirping. It seemed almost a little ironic how the world and most of its inhabitants was still going about in its usual cycle even with the chaos that had hit. It served as a hopeful reminder though, that even with what was going on, the sun would still rise to bring light to the darkest nights.
The brunet glanced down at his watch, a little surprised to see that it was six already. He was up and ready for at least three hours already, unable to find himself to go back to sleep after being awakened by a particularly brutal wind. It probably wasn't the best idea to sleep on the roof with the chilly weather, but he couldn't find himself to fall asleep inside the school. It was too stuffy and much too dark. At least outside, he was able to be lulled asleep by the gentle moonlight.
A growl from Ariel's stomach told him that it was time for breakfast. After another quick look to make sure that no zombies were approaching, he walked down a stairwell to the third floor and entered the closest classroom where the food was placed. It was just like any other classroom, with tables and chairs aligned neatly, but he constantly reminded himself that it wasn't like this before. When he first arrived, blood was smeared on walls and windows, tables and chairs were scattered, and several bodies were splayed across the floors. Worst of all, several zombies lingered around, waiting for new preys to come. Whittling out those few zombies were terrifying, but the cleanup was no better. Each blood stain he had to wipe away told him of the horror that had occurred here. Each body he had to drag out to burn away told him that this was his life now. Death was of the norm, and it could very well take him away at any given time.
Ariel reach out and picked up granola bar but didn't open it. His appetite was gone, and he doubt that it would come back anytime soon. Rubbing his temples, he sat down in a chair and fiddled around with the plastic wrap around the bar, wondering quietly if Riley was coming to eat.
