Wrong place at the right time.

Helena hid up in her room as when she looked out of the window, all she could see was chaos and destruction. She knew that they would come to her family's estate soon- it was only a matter of time. The whole town was being ransacked of valuables; countless lives being taken; houses burnt to the ground. For once, Helena wished that her Father and his troops were here. They would have sorted this out for sure. After all, her Father was a skilled fighter, along with most of his men.

She could now hear the ransackers and soldiers coming closer to the estate, even more so. Judging by the sounds of their voices, they were at the opposite street. Helena was panicking as she had never had to deal with any of this before. This was meant to be a safe place for her family to reside. She curled up into the foetus position, in one of the corners of her room, with her hands holding her head as she rocked back and forth. "It will stop. It will stop. It will stop." Helena repeated, hoping that if she repeated it enough times, it would come true...

Killian takes his time slipping from shadow to shadow trying his best not to get spotted. He eyes each build thinking carefully as to what would be the most ample target to steal from. He looks out to the general's home. "Hmmmm... given this chaos and him on the-" He ducks behind a haybale as he sees one of the enemy soldiers run past him. "frontline... i'll be able to get so many goodies... better act fast before they burn it down." He says quickling making his way from street to street staying out of site as well as he can. he carfully picks the lock to the back door and slips in with ease through the kitchen. "Now... if i were some really nice valuables... where would i hide?" He says as he starts carefully making his way to the main hall.

Most of the valuables were upstairs- some in her room; some in her parent's room; others hidden away in the room safe. Helena could hear the soldiers getting closer to the house. It sounded like they were now in the estate grounds, ever so close to the house. She decided to get up from the floor and look out the window. The soldiers carried torches, ready to burn the place down. The worst part was that she wouldn't be able to get out. They would see her and most likely lock her in the house to die. Either way, she was doomed. Helena instinctively started to collect up valuables like necklaces. As she did, loud banging noises were made as she rushed around. Of course, there was no reason for her to be doing this, but her mind told her to.

The banging and assaulting on he house made him jump "Ah crap, well looks like being sneaky is going to be a bad idea... i better head upstairs and try to find something work taking and get the hell out of dodge." He says quickly decided to rush up stairs with added zeal. The pounding continued to get louder and more frequent. "Not good, not good." He said to himself. "Worst idea e-" He stops himself as he hears what sounds like someone rummaging around. "Who could possibly still be here?" He says to himself as he follows the sound.

Helena continued to rummage through the drawers. She was desperately trying to find a necklace that her Mother had given to her as a family heirloom. Finally, Helena found it, buried beneath many other necklaces. She held it in her hand and stared at it for a moment. It had a silver chain with a silver locket at the end of it. On the silver locket was an engraved black rose. She then clipped the necklace on around her neck and let the locket fall to rest on her chest. Helena knew that she probably wouldn't get out of this situation alive, but wearing that locket gave her a sense of calmness about it. She then began to stare out the window at the soldiers surrounding the estate and wondered how long it would take them to light up the whole house in flames...

Killian makes his way carefully into the last room feeling unease in his cut as he starts to smell smoke. He sees the woman staring out the window at the soldier torching the house. "What the hell lady do you have a death wish or something?" He says honestly surprised to find someone in the house. 'dammit... looks like i dont have a choice... i can't just leaver her here to burn alive...' he things to himself feeling regret that he has to leave so many valuable behind.

Helena turned to face the mysterious man that was in her room. She was startled that someone was in the house, let alone someone she didn't know. Helena then started to back away from the man until her back was touching the wall behind her. "W-Who are you?!" She asked, still startled. But then that question was soon forgotten as the smell of smoke started to fill the room. Helena started coughing at the smell and knew that downstairs would be catching alight.

Before he knew even what he was doing he quickly caught her by the hand and proceeded to run for the back of the house. He skids to a stop looking for a way to get down. He lets out a sigh and quickly picks her up and jumps out from the window to the floor bellow. Lucky enough for him, his own instincts had been rewarded as a small straw mat had broken their wall. The tries to calm down and effectively let the blood stop pumping to his ears for a moment.

Before she could even react, he had taken her hand and they were running to the back of the house. Helena felt exhausted just running as the smoke had started to fill her lungs. Then just as she felt like she was going to collapse, the mysterious man had picked her up and jumped out the window with her still in his arms. Once they were at the bottom, the adrenaline started to wear off and her lungs burned. Helena stumbled off of the man and tried to run off. However, her legs were weak and the ringing in her ears caused by the adrenaline made her unbalanced. So she stumbled around, not being able to hardly even walk and then fell to the floor. Helena scrabbled on the floor, trying to get away from both the man and the burning house, but she simply couldn't.

This situation was getting bad and he didn't like it, not one bit. A fire to his back and he assume soldiers everywhere. 'dammit... this is bad...' he thought to himself. 'why am i risking my neck for this girl?' he continues to question himself before his thoughts are drowned out by the sound of footsteps. Without much throught he scrambles to his feet and pulls her up into his arms once more and picks a direction and starts running. His brain feels a little addled but the sooner they can get out of the city the better.

Helena gripped onto his hand as tight as she could to stop herself from falling over. She didn't know where they were going, but anywhere was better than a burning estate and soldiers surrounding the whole town. Helena didn't even know why she was running with this man- she had no idea whatsoever who he was and what he was actually doing in the house. She wanted to stop and catch her breath to aid her burnt lungs. However, Helena knew that they couldn't as the soldiers may then catch a glimpse of them. After a while, she started to slow down as her legs were cramping up and her lungs were burning from both the smoke and the lack of oxygen. "S-Stop..." Helena forced out. "I need...to stop." She elaborated, almost begging him to stop running.

He stops dead in his tracks. "If we dont keep moving we're dead lady..." He says as he starts to think of a better way. 'The smoke must have messed her lungs up pretty bad... gotta get her out of here before her condition gets worse....' he does the only thing he can think of. Supporting her back with one arm he brings his other behind her legs and lifts her off her feet much like a groom would his blushing bride. "Hold on tight, i'd rather not drop you while trying to get out of the damned city." He says as he starts to continue in the direction he was running in.

She wrapped her arms around his neck to support herself as he ran with her in his arms. Helena tried to breathe deeply to try and catch her breath again. But the smoke had damaged her lungs and it burned every single time she took in a breath of air. She just hoped that he could get them out in time. Helena closed her eyes and let the mysterious man get them out of this trouble...

He touch was gentle and delicate. He didn't know why but it spurred him forward not stopping for anything. His thighs burned under their combined weight. "Just hang in there.. take short breaths so you dont damage your lungs any further..." He says trying to help ease her pain as he continues to push forward his body screaming to give up on him. "Almost... there..." he says as hes starting to run out of breath himself. He didn't take in much smoke but his lungs felt like they wanted to tear from his muscles.

She did what he said and took in smaller breaths of air to try and ease the pain. But the world started to spin around her. Helena's vision was beginning to darken as time went on. She continued to grip at his neck, mainly to now try and stay awake. Helena now rested her head on his chest as he ran as it was getting increasingly difficult for her to breathe, even with small breaths...

As his own vision started to fade he finally saw light filter through the dark cast over the town. "finally... we're right there..." He manages to force out as he manages to slip out of the borders of the town. He pushes the last bit of energy he has as the fresh air invigorates him a little so he can get to the tree line once he makes it there they're home free. Once under the safety of the trees he finally collapses to his knees. With what little strength he has left he carefully lays her down on the soft cool grass. Its hard for him to speak and its difficult to move so all he can do is sit and watch her carefully while he tries to regain his own self. His lungs ache like they're are being cut open, his entires feels like it's on fire. He pushed himself too hard and now he was paying for it.

She looked up at him for a moment, wondering why he would save her like that. After all, he could have easily left her in the house, or even on the way out of the town. Helena started to wheeze as her lungs were raw and painful. Then she closed her eyes again and fell unconcious. Everything was just too much for her: the pain of her red raw lungs; the confusion to whom he was; the burning down of the only home she had ever known. Nothing made sense to her anymore...

After getting some of his faculties back he finally leans back against a tree exhaustion being his temptress for the evening. He watches her carefully for the moment as she goes unconcious and his tired eyes finally win out. Soon sleep takes him as he sits propped against the oak tree.

Helena awoke sometime later, not sure quite how long she had been out for. She slowly opened her eyes, letting herself fully wake up before trying to open them more. For a moment, she had forgotten what had happened. But then after a few seconds, she came to sudden realisation. Helena panicked as her lungs still felt as if they were burning (although not as much as before) and she had no idea where she was. She quickly sat up, her head darting around to try and figure out where she was and what was happening.

The light sound of snoring comes from Killians mouth as he lays passed out completely asleep against the tree. He was lucky because if he had continued any hard than he already had he probably would have died. The wind blows softly calming the area around the two of them. Despite as that had gone on he slept like a rock.

After she had calmed herself down and the panicking subsided, Helena looked over to see the man propped up on a tree, sleeping. His snoring made her smile slightly as it was quite amusing to watch him sleep. She then propped herself up more against a nearby boulder and tried to breathe in deeper to see if she could. It was difficult and painful, but it was do able with the right amount of concentration. Helena just hoped that the mysterious man would wake up soon. After all, she had many questions for him...

A few minutes pass and his weight shifted slightly wrong. He falls over quickly jaring him away. His head shoots up almost part way in alarm. "AH! I'm awake, i'm a wake." His eyes partway closed still. He stretches and lets out a yawn. "Well that could have gone better..." He says to himself as he tries to massage his sore muscles.

Helena continued to stare at him for a moment, trying to figure out what to say to him. "Who are..you?" She forced out and her voice cracked slightly at the strain of talking. Helena then instinctively touched the locket that rested on her chest, running her fingers over the valuable necklace as she waited for him to reply.
